Singing voice-wise, I’ve always imagined that Leroux Erik sounds like the great Russian tenor Sergei Lemeshev. There’s just such a ghostly, tragic quality to his voice that “fits” in a way I can’t describe. I could listen to the man sing forever.
Just, like, listen to this and tell me it doesn’t scream Rik (to say nothing of the fact that this aria has already made the rounds in fandom because of the Ken Hill version)

Fan-(Voice) Casting Leroux's "The Phantom of the Opera"
I've been thinking a lot lately about how in the past 115 years we've never gotten a faithful film adaptation of Leroux's novel. But I believe technology has advanced far enough for CG artists to make the Living Corpse a reality. Personally, I see the character of Erik as taking an amalgam of artists to bring to life (much like Darth Vader) - an actor to perform him physically, CGI artists to accurately capture his likeness and enhance the acting, and another performer to provide his voice. Based on Leroux's novel, how do you imagine Erik's voice? If you were to cast someone for the vocal performance, who in your opinion who would fit that voice best? Is there an artist (present or past) that is comparable?

Quote
When Onegin is scheduled I try to reread the book and to watch one of our Russian opera productions on the internet. It shows how the characters should be, especially when sung by our old singers, [Ivan] Kozlovsky or [Sergei] Lemeshev. That helps me to get in the right mood for the ballet.
Semyon Chudin (Bolshoi Ballet, 2016)
