It is supposed to be comedic, but that scene when Hae-Song being bullied in the past, because he was an orphan and no teacher helped him... then adding the fact that his father was missing/died and Hae-Song's superior rubbing that on his face. He was trying his best because his no-good team was going to disband if Hae-Song was dismissed but the mission isn't just about finding the lost treasure but confronting Hae-Song's past.
That guy is trying and someone needs to appreciate that for a second please! Poor him! It is going to be more painful from now on!

Undercover High School (2025) eps 1-2 review
So, I used to have a story inside my head about a police went undercover as a high school student, so I was really surprised to find a kdrama about this exact story.
Undercover High School is about an intelligence service agent who went undercover into a prestigious high school in order to find a lost treasure of the nation.
When I first read the synopsis honestly I didn't know what to make out of it. The genre would be an action comedy it said, so I tried to watch the first two episodes.
And I need to say that this drama has a unique story telling. It is somewhere between serious, absurd, and comedic. I have watched kdrama with more absurd story line before this, so I think this drama isn't that absurd yet. The story actually unraveled in a realistic, but also, frustrating way... in a way?
So, the main character of the story, Jung Hae-Song is an elite agent who accidentally botched his mission and reprimanded because of it. With the stake of being fired, he was offered a last chance to find a lost treasure, a mountain of golds, in a prestigious high school. The catch was, he needed to infiltrate as a student there.
His first reaction? Complete refusal, of course. But, since he had no other choice, he tried to do it.
It was supposed to be comedic but in my opinion, it wasn't. There were many comedic events, but I didn't laugh that much. In fact, this drama is threading the line between mystery, friendship, coming of age and a little bit of horror. It was a beautiful mess, in a way.
That doesn't mean that I don't like this drama and I'm going to drop it off. No, this is good but for now I can't foresee where this drama's direction is going for.
I think the biggest theme of this drama is... power play. So many characters, including Hae-Song, are the victims of power abuse by someone higher than them. But, as the main character, I genuinely felt bad for Hae-Song because it seemed he has too many things to tackle all at once with little help. And Hae-Song's goal is anything but to fight the system for now, so I don't know where this power play is going.
Infiltrating the high school as a student is hard enough, but he needs to confront his bitter memory about him being bullied in high school, protect his bullied new friend then risking his undercover mission, the upper boss breathing behind his neck for every mistakes he made, a heroine as teacher who still believed that he is a troublemaker student, a past about his missing father who also worked as an agent and... so many more?
He looked like he was at lost with so many things happening in two episodes and while he has his team who backed him up from afar (really faaaaar), it felt like he was left to his own demise.
He was supposed to be a top performing agent and yet he was all so messy doing his mission... which I can't really blame him because infiltrating a high school as student is... just mission impossible.
Well, the fact that I felt frustrated and pitied Hae-Song means that I'm invested to the main character which is a good thing. The problem is I know that he will get many more problems on his hands for the next episode and I hope it will be less frustrating.
I hope that the heroine is going into his side soon. The more oblivious and dense she is, the more frustrating it will be and I might drop this drama if it keeps carried on longer.
I do hope that the story will unravel of how this mission will heal Hae-Song's inner child. For an action comedy drama, Hae-Song has such a tragic past... it wasn't funny in the slightest. If this drama does nothing but bullying him into the oblivion (so many writers love to do that to their main characters) while he has little to non-existent support system, I will say good bye.
...and honestly I can't imagine that Hae-Song will also need to tackle romance coming his way too... poor him. He has so many things in his template.
But, I love his character. I hope someone will show him enough love in the drama because he deserves that, the current amount is nowhere enough.
