What is Sensory Processing Disorder?
Sensory processing refers to the taking in and use of sensory information. This information comes not only from our five senses but also from three other senses that tell us how we feel inside our bodies and where our bodies are in space.
Not everyone processes sensory information the same way. Some people’s brains have difficulty filtering out unnecessary information, so they get sensory overload easily. Others have a high threshold for sensory information, so they do not notice it right away when they get hurt. People who have trouble processing information about where they are in space have trouble with motor coordination.
People who have these kinds of challenges may get told that they have sensory processing disorder (SPD). Like Non-Verbal Learning Disorder (NLD or NVLD), SPD is not the official books such as the diagnostic and statistical manual (DSM).
The main way to help yourself or someone you love with SPD is to find an occupational therapist (OT) with expertise in sensory processing.
Cheers,
Julia

I was just informed that my doctor is temporarily out of the office right now, right when my every-90-days meds renewall needs approved. Once again I have to go off of cannabis for a while, but this time I'm like, almost kinda excited to see how well I'll do? I have pretty much every accommodation I need to stay comfy now, (even an e-ink tablet to play solitaire and check my email!!)
I will need a service worker to take out the trash, get the mail, administer medications, lead me into and out of vehicles and buildings, and meal plan and prep for me, if this goes on very long though. I'm still waiting on medicaid approval for those services because it took this exact scenario to prove to my service coordinator that I require them, but thankfully I'll have acess to them eventually for the next inevitable lapse of medication availability! And those things can all wait a week or so before they get to be actual problems.
So, for now I'm just gonna focus on keeping myself and my pets and plants comfy, till the people who's job it is to fix it can do so, lol. Got my TWO pairs of conduction headphones (~never uncharged~), e-ink tablet for solitaire and email, spotify and youtube premium, weighted blankets and plushies, blackout curtains, dim and even lighting, protein bars and yummy water stuff, skin wipes and dry shampoo, plenty of changes of earplugs, analog clocks and notebooks and comfortable pens, executive dysfunction reducing room and nest layout, and my ferrets' playpen set up securely for longterm use and easy cleaning. I bet I'll even be able to sleep okay if I get enough exercise and cuddles.
I'm gonna make sure to put my neurological health first. Even if I seem kinda silly for it, lol.

Exciting research on Misophonia
I find it extremely validating that the research shows that misophonia is a hard-wired part of our very bodies. I knew in my bones that there is no cure. But knowing that, we can focus on treatment, adaptations and concessions for this often debilitating type of brain function.
My misophonia is just as bad as ever, at the age of 36. But have given myself permission to bail on any given situation at any time, to wear my Bose headphones at all times, to use white noise when needed, to keep earplugs in my keychain... And that has increased the quality of my life, despite my plethora of unusual health problems.
Misophones, please be kind to yourselves. Most people literally cannot imagine how we feel. Your feelings are real. Your feelings are valid.
It's nigh impossible to express what is happening to you while you're overloaded by upsetting stimuli.
So I recommend that you explain your misophonia to the people that you trust. Make a codeword with your partner or best friend. "I want a banana" used to be mine.
Now I text my gf 'miso' and keep a card on me that says "I have a disorder on the autistic spectrum and I cannot handle the present situation"

So, you know how some people have allergies to peanuts but not pollen? Different bodies overreact to different things.
My brain thinks certain sounds are attacks, and overreacts the way someone with allergies’ bodies overreacts.
But my specific brain is wired to overreact at pen clicks, and yours is wired to overreact at heavy metal growling.
We’re both valid.

Looking for Sensory Integration Therapy in Malviya Nagar for Your Child?
As parents, ensuring your child’s well-being and development is always a top priority. If your child is experiencing difficulties processing sensory information—whether it’s being overly sensitive to sounds, avoiding touch, or showing unusual reactions to lights and smells—it might be a sign they could benefit from Sensory Integration Therapy. For families residing in Malviya Nagar or its vicinity, finding the right therapeutic support is essential for addressing these unique needs.
What is Sensory Integration Therapy?
Sensory Integration Therapy (SIT) is a specialized form of therapy designed to help children better process and respond to sensory stimuli from their environment. This therapeutic approach is particularly beneficial for children with conditions such as:
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD)
Developmental delays or learning challenges
Therapists trained in SIT use play-based activities and targeted exercises to improve how the brain interprets and responds to sensory inputs, such as touch, sound, and movement.
Why is Sensory Integration Therapy Important?
Children struggling with sensory processing issues often face challenges in day-to-day activities. For instance, they may find it difficult to:
Focus in noisy environments, such as classrooms.
Handle clothing textures or daily grooming routines.
Engage in motor tasks like tying shoelaces or riding a bicycle.
These challenges can affect not only their performance in school but also their self-esteem and relationships. Sensory Integration Therapy aims to equip children with the tools they need to manage their responses to sensory input, thereby improving their quality of life.
Signs Your Child May Benefit from SIT
If you’re considering Sensory Integration Therapy in Malviya Nagar, keep an eye out for the following signs in your child:
Over or under-reactivity to sensory input: Extreme responses to noise, lights, textures, or tastes.
Unusual craving for sensory stimulation: For example, excessive spinning, jumping, or squeezing.
Difficulty with coordination: Struggling to climb stairs, hold objects, or balance.
Challenges with social interactions: Avoiding physical contact or difficulty reading social cues.
Frequent emotional outbursts: Meltdowns triggered by seemingly minor sensory inputs.

Sensory Integration Therapy
Finding the Right Therapy Center in Malviya Nagar
If you’re searching for Sensory Integration Therapy in Malviya Nagar, it’s important to choose a center that provides a nurturing and professional environment. Here are some factors to consider:
Qualified Professionals: Ensure the center employs certified occupational therapists with specialized training in sensory integration techniques.
Child-Friendly Setup: Look for a therapy space equipped with tools such as swings, trampolines, textured surfaces, and weighted materials. These items are integral to a robust SIT program.
Individualized Plans: The best centers tailor therapy sessions to your child’s specific needs, focusing on their unique sensory challenges and goals.
Parental Involvement: Therapy is most effective when parents are part of the process. Select a facility that offers regular progress updates and home strategies for you to practice with your child.
Renowned Therapy Options in Malviya Nagar
Malviya Nagar is home to several therapy centers known for their expert approach to Sensory Integration Therapy. Some key options include:
Occupational Therapy Specialists: These centers often provide sensory integration sessions alongside other therapies, such as fine motor skill development and behavior management.
Multi-Disciplinary Clinics: Facilities offering speech therapy, physiotherapy, and sensory integration under one roof might be more suitable for children with multiple developmental needs.
Home-Based Therapy Services: If traveling to a center is challenging, many therapists in the Malviya Nagar area offer home-based intervention plans.
Preparing for Your Child’s Journey
Before beginning Sensory Integration Therapy, it’s essential to prepare adequately:
Conduct an Initial Assessment: Most centers will assess your child’s current sensory and developmental needs. This evaluation guides the therapy plan.
Set Realistic Goals: Discuss your expectations with the therapist, but understand that progress takes time and may occur in small but significant steps.
Be Patient and Consistent: Sensory Integration Therapy is a gradual process. Consistency in attending sessions and practicing techniques at home is critical.
Long-Term Benefits of Sensory Integration Therapy
When implemented effectively, Sensory Integration Therapy has long-lasting benefits, such as:
Improved focus and attention span
Enhanced coordination and motor skills
Reduced anxiety around sensory triggers
Greater independence in daily tasks
Better social interactions and self-confidence
Final Thoughts
Finding Sensory Integration Therapy in Malviya Nagar can significantly enhance your child’s ability to navigate their sensory world. By choosing the right professionals and committing to the therapeutic process, you can empower your child to overcome sensory challenges and unlock their full potential.
If you’re considering therapy options, start with a consultation at a trusted center in Malviya Nagar. With the right support, your child can thrive in all areas of life—academically, socially, and emotionally.

My answer is….
In the last five years, I’ve had to unlearn my reaction that “I’m not stressed unless I’m at a meltdown.”
This has been the result of a decade of diligent, conscious effort managing my anxiety and traumas.
Recognizing my triggers, what overstimulates me, how to cope with becoming overwhelmed.
Accepting that my sensory limitations and frustrations are real, I have management strategies, and I do not have to live with them.
The more effort I put into being gentle with myself about my sensory concerns and anxiety….
The less they have become synonymous.
But if it has taken me a decade of very careful work to experience being stressed without feeling like I’m going to break down into tears over every tiny sound…
Yeah, before they were directly correlated.
More stress = less sensory I could pricess
Be gentle with yourself.
Understand that when your brain (a physical organ) is overwhelmed with “This is my new reality,” it has less resources to use for managing your existing conditions.
This is a real thing that is happening, and a sign of your Sensory Processing Disorder, not a mental or personality failing.
Take the time to simplify what sensory experiences you can.
Use every single coping strategy you have learned, and be open to nee ones.
This is real, and not your fault.
And above all else…
Tumblr media
Question for fellow neurodivergent peeps…
Is it normal for the frequency with which I feel overstimulated to be correlated with my stress levels? Like, when I’m stressed at work, I have a significantly lower threshold for what kind of sensory inconveniences I can tolerate.
I haven’t worked in my current field for long, but since starting working, my sensory issues went from “I’m a little weird about noises and textures and lights” to “Holy shit I don’t think this is what most people experience.”
