Oct 04, 2022 06:50 IST New Delhi , October 4 (Always First): The Digital India Conference of State IT Ministers, along with the sixth edition of India Mobile Congress (IMC 2022), was held on October 1 and was inaugurated by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, said a statement from the Ministry of Electronics and IT. Industry veterans Mukesh Ambani from Reliance Industries, Sunil Bharti Mittal from Bharti Enterprises, Kumar Mangalam Birla from Aditya Birla Group, and several other dignitaries graced the inauguration. It saw the national launch of 5G, exhibitions, and the unveiling of several 5G use cases in education, health, worker safety, smart agriculture, etc, added the statement. After the inaugural session of IMC 2022, the "Digital India Conference of State IT Ministers" was held under the chairmanship of the Minister for Communications, Electronics and Information Technology and Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw in the august presence of the Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Rajeev Chandrasekhar and Minister of State for Communications, Devusinh Chauhan and IT Ministers from 12 States and UTs, namely Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Mizoram, Sikkim, and Puducherry," as per the statement. It was also attended by State IT Secretaries and State officers from all States and UTs and senior officers from MeitY and DoT. In the welcome address and initial remarks, Alkesh Kumar Sharma, Secretary of MeitY shared - how Digital India proved its resilience during a pandemic. He shared the latest initiatives such as My Scheme, Meri Pehchaan, Digital Bhashini, and PLIs, which can be leveraged by the States and UTs for uplifting ease of living and ease of doing business. He emphasized making all efforts for making this decade India's TechAde. Devusinh Chauhan, in his address, stated that the introduction of 5G services in India today is a historic day. He shared that time taken to obtain RoW permission has been reduced from 3 months to 6 days. Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that there is an unprecedented opportunity for growth and the world is looking to India as a trusted supply chain partner, especially in the electronics sector. He mentioned digital devices, digital data, deep technologies, and massive diversification in the supply chain. He emphasized that all States and UTs, as Team India, should leverage PLI schemes to attract companies, make policies to take startup culture to tier 2/3 cities, and leverage India Stack solutions and digital platforms built around it to standardize the citizen-centric and business-centric services. Ashwini Vaishnaw, in his initial address, stated that Team Digital India comprising Central and State Governments has to fulfil the aspirations of youths and 1.3 Bn people. He said that the focus is on creating employment, achieving the target of a 1 Trillion Dollar Digital Economy and 1 Crore Digital Jobs by 2026. He also said that coming up with the new policies namely Telecom Bill and Digital Data Protection Bill States are encouraged to share their constructive suggestions. Thereafter, State / UT IT Ministers shared the progress of connectivity, electronic manufacturing efforts, and e-governance initiatives taken under Digital India in their respective States. They also shared the issues concerned with connectivity, the opening of more centres of NIELIT, CDAC, STPI, the opening of CoE in emerging areas and policy matters. In his closing remarks, MEIT stated that connectivity is vital for Digital India and its reach to every corner of the country. He announced that Rs 36,000 crore to install new 25,000 towers in the next 500 days have been approved. The list of spots for installing towers is prepared in consultation with States / Chief Secretaries. States can further review the list. He also announced that Rs 1.64 lakh crore will be used for the revival of BSNL in a comprehensive manner and it will be rolled out in the next 18 months. Design in India and Make-In-India will be a big beneficiary. He congratulated all States and UTs for their speedy onboarding at PM Gati Shakti. He also announced that the fibre network will be put on a common portal, which will help States and UTs to plan layout-driven infrastructure projects and digital transformational projects. He informed that the policy-related matter is / will be determined in due consultation with States. He also shared that the special assistance to States for capital expenditure worth Rs 2000 Crore has been supported. He encouraged the states to be proactive and make business-friendly policies to attract businesses to their States. Meet Meredith Grey. She's a woman trying to lead a real life while doing a job that makes having a real life impossible.
Meredith is a first year surgical intern at Seattle Grace Hospital, the toughest surgical residency program west of Harvard. She and fellow first-year interns Cristina Yang, Izzie Stevens, George O'Malley and Alex Karev were students yesterday. Today they're doctors and, in a world where on the job training can be a matter of life and death, they're all juggling the ups and downs of their own personal lives.
The five interns struggle to form friendships in this most stressful and competitive atmosphere. Meredith's medical ambition is overshadowed by a troubling secret: Her mother, a noted pioneering surgeon, is struggling with a tragic and devastating illness. Cristina is highly competitive and driven, but lacks tact when it comes to bedside manner. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens is the small-town girl who grew up dirt poor and, in spite of paying for her medical career by modeling. Sometimes she cares a little too deeply about her patients. George O'Malley is the warm but insecure boy next door who always manages to do or say the wrong thing at the wrong time. In spite of his attraction to women, he's treated as "just one of the girls". And Alex Karev, the intern the other interns love to have, masks his working class roots with arrogance and ambition.
The interns are guided by an established team of doctors who are determined to shape them into skilled surgeons or break them: Miranda Bailey, a senior resident responsible for training them, is so tough that she's nicknamed "The Nazi". Derek Shepherd is the flirtatious but very capable surgeon who shares a forbidden but undeniable sexual attraction with Meredith. Preston Burke's arrogance is second only to his skill with a scalpel. Overseeing them all is Dr. Richard Webber, Seattle Grace's paternal, but no-nonsense chief of surgery.
Grey's Anatomy focuses on young people struggling to be doctors and doctors struggling to stay human. It's the drama and intensity of medical training mixed with the funny, sexy, painful lives of interns who are about to discover that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white. Real life only comes in shades of grey.

This brings me around to discussing us, a film release of the Christian religio us faith-based . As almost customary, Hollywood usually generates two (maybe three) films of this variety movies within their yearly theatrical release lineup, with the releases usually being around spring us and / or fall respectfully. I didn’t hear much when this movie was initially aounced (probably got buried underneath all of the popular movies news on the newsfeed). My first actual glimpse of the movie was when the film’s movie trailer premiered, which looked somewhat interesting if you ask me. Yes, it looked the movie was goa be the typical “faith-based” vibe, but it was going to be directed by the Erwin Brothers, who directed I COULD Only Imagine (a film that I did so like). Plus, the trailer for I Still Believe premiered for quite some us, so I continued seeing it most of us when I visited my local cinema. You can sort of say that it was a bit “engrained in my brain”. Thus, I was a lttle bit keen on seeing it. Fortunately, I was able to see it before the COVID-9 outbreak closed the movie theaters down (saw it during its opening night), but, because of work scheduling, I haven’t had the us to do my review for it…. as yet. And what did I think of it? Well, it was pretty “meh”. While its heart is certainly in the proper place and quite sincere, us is a little too preachy and unbalanced within its narrative execution and character developments. The religious message is plainly there, but takes way too many detours and not focusing on certain aspects that weigh the feature’s presentation.

It has reinforced a common belief in the Valley: the August 5 decisions were aimed at robbing Kashmiri Muslims of economic and political rights.
One year after special status ended, Kashmiris have disappeared from government in J&K
On April 2, a photograph from an official meeting of the Jammu and Kashmir administration created a buzz on social media in the Kashmir Valley. At first glance, the picture appeared unremarkable. It showed Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor GC Murmu holding a meeting with a battery of bureaucrats.
Social media users in the Valley were quick to point out that, out of the 19 men in the photograph, there was only one Kashmiri Muslim – Farooq Ahmad Lone, a former Indian Administrative Service officer from the Valley.
“Islam is the major religion practiced in Kashmir, with 97.00% of the region’s population identifying as Muslims and among them just Farooq Lone sb is standing alone in decision making with regard to highly Muslim populated Jammu and Kashmir as I could see,” said a Facebook user from Kashmir.
The picture cut to the heart of the anxiety that has gripped the Valley ever since August 5, 2019, when the Centre stripped Jammu and Kashmir of special status and split the former state into two Union Territories amid the severest lockdown the region has ever seen. Parliament also repealed Article 35A, which had empowered the government of the former state to define “permanent residents” of Jammu and Kashmir and reserve for them specific rights, such as the right to own land and hold government jobs, in the state.
The common refrain among Kashmiris in the aftermath of the decision was this: the move was aimed at introducing demographic change to the predominantly Muslim Kashmir Valley, robbing its inhabitants of economic and political rights.
The legislative assembly of the former state, now disbanded, had traditionally been dominated by the Muslim-majority Valley. With the August 5 decisions, Valley residents feared the “comeback of Dogra rule”, referring to the unpopular Hindu kings of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, which existed before 1947. In other words, they feared a government and administration that did not represent the Kashmiri Muslim majority of the region.
It was not just the picture that triggered these fears.

Vanishing Kashmiris “In civil bureaucracy, police and judiciary, Muslims in Kashmir feel nowhere,” said Ghulam Hassan Mir, a former minister in the state and now a member of the newly floated Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party, in a recent interview. “They are being sidelined and there is complete imbalance in the system. Kashmiris are found nowhere and even in the civil secretariat, which is the seat of power, the dejected Kashmiri officers are feeling detached.”
This marginalisation may not have started last year. Two former ministers who had served in the governments of the former state said that Delhi had always intervened in crucial appointments. A former cabinet minister who served in the People’s Democratic Party-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition government traces the marginalisation of Kashmiri officers back to 1989, when militancy spread rapidly across the Valley.
“It has been like this since 1989,” said the minister, who was among the many Kashmiri politicians arrested just before August 5. “Most of the key posts in the administration and police were held by non-local bureaucrats and officers on Delhi’s bidding. But state governments did act as a bit of buffer in such a scenario because there was accountability before the people. Tomorrow, they would have to go to people for votes.”
That has changed dramatically since the state assembly was dissolved, said another former cabinet minister. “The bureaucrats leading this administration don’t even want to stay in Kashmir,” he said. “Either they stay in their fortified official accommodations or they prefer to spend their week days in Jammu or Delhi. There’s no connection with the public.”
The change in leadership starts from the top. For years, the state had coalition governments led by a Kashmir-based party and a Kashmiri chief minister. The coalition partner was usually a national party, which won most of its votes from Jammu. But after the PDP-BJP government fell in June 2018, Kashmiri Muslims have had a waning presence in government.
Since the BJP walked out of the coalition in 2018, Jammu and Kashmir has been governed directly by the Centre, first through the governor and then, after it became a Union Territory, through the lieutenant governor. Both acted in consultation with an advisory council. In these two years, only one Kashmiri bureaucrat has been part of the council – Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, a retired Indian Administrative Service officer. His term ended on October 31, 2019, the day Jammu and Kashmir officially lost statehood.
Since then, Kashmiris have disappeared from the core unit of the administration altogether. While the administration is closely controlled by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs – most important policy decisions have been announced by it – the lieutenant governor and his four advisors are now the face of government in Jammu and Kashmir. Each advisor has the powers of a minister, supervising different departments instead of holding portfolios. Three of the advisors are from Jammu. The fourth is from Uttar Pradesh. None of them is from the Kashmir Valley.
Faces of the Union Territory administration
GC Murmu, a 1985-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Gujarat cadre, served as principal secretary to Narendra Modi during his tenure as chief minister of Gujarat and later as expenditure secretary at the Centre. Back in 2004, he had also faced allegations that he “tutored” witnesses who appeared before the Nanavati Commission, set up to look into the 2002 Gujarat riots. The allegations were dismissed by the Supreme Court-appointed special investigation team. Murmu was appointed lieutenant governor on October 31.
Kewal Kumar Sharma, on the governor’s advisory council since 2018, continued with Murmu. A retired Indian Administrative Service officer from Jammu division’s Kathua district, he has been chief secretary of Delhi and Goa as well as advisor to the administrator of Chandigarh. He was also secretary in the Union human resources ministry in 2016. At present, Sharma supervises a wide range of departments – from revenue, planning development and industries to education and horticulture.
Also continuing from the 2018 advisory council is Farooq Khan, a former Indian Police Service officer from Jammu. After he retired from the police, Khan had joined the BJP at a public rally held by Modi in Kathua during the run up to the Lok Sabha elections of 2014. He is the grandson of Peer Mohammad Khan, the first state president of the Jammu and Kashmir Jana Sangh.
Farooq Khan was instrumental in establishing the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s counterinsurgency wing, now known as the special operations group, during the peak of the militancy in the early 1990s. But his career was attended by controversy. In 2000, when five men were killed in an alleged fake encounter in Pathribal in Anantnag district, he was the senior superintendent in charge. In April 2003, he was suspended by the state government for two and a half years. In September 2005, he was exonerated by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
At present, Farooq Khan handles food, civil supplies and consumer affairs, social welfare, tribal affairs, labour and employment, youth services and sports, among other departments.
The only person from outside Jammu and Kashmir to be part of the advisory council is Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, who retired as director general of the Central Reserve Police Force. Bhatnagar is in charge of health and medical education, public works, irrigation and flood control, transport and animal husbandry in the union territory administration.
The most recent entrant to the advisory council is Baseer Ahmad Khan, appointed in March. This was soon after the Jammu and Kashmir High Court had expressed concern about the “inordinate delay” in framing charges in the Gulmarg land scam. Khan is one of the accused.
Baseer Khan was due to retire from the Indian Administrative Service on June 30, 2019. But as the government secretly geared up for sweeping changes to the state, it gave him a one-year extension, calling it a “special case”. When Jammu and Kashmir lost statehood, he was divisional commissioner of Kashmir. As advisor, Khan handles power development, rural development & panchayati raj, disaster management, culture, tourism and floriculture.
Also aiding the council is chief secretary BVR Subrahmanyam, a 1987-batch IAS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre. He hails from Andhra Pradesh.
The chain of command
Kashmiri officers have vanished further down the chain of command as well. There were 58 Indian Administrative Officers in the state cadre of the former state of Jammu and Kashmir – the cadre has now been merged into the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram-Union Territories cadre. Of those 58, only seven were Kashmiri Muslim. That included Shah Faesal, the star bureaucrat who went on to form his own political party. After August 5, he was among the scores of political leaders detained under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act, a preventive detention law. He remains under house arrest.
Key departments like home, finance, health, environment are headed by officers from outside Jammu and Kashmir. The only officer from the Kashmir Valley running an important department is Asgar Hassan Samoon, principal secretary for school education.
While Jammu division is headed by Sanjeev Verma, a local resident, Kashmir’s divisional commissioner, Pandurang Kondbarao Pole, hails from Maharashtra. In the 10 districts of the Valley, only four district commissioners are Kashmiri.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Police force is headed by Dilbag Singh from Punjab. Mukesh Singh from Delhi heads the police in the Jammu division and Vijay Kumar from Bihar is the inspector general of Kashmir. None of the five deputy inspector generals is from Kashmir. In the 13 police districts of the Kashmir Valley, only two are under the charge of Kashmiri superintendents.
Kashmiri judges are a minority in the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, too. Of the 11 sitting judges, only two are Kashmiri Muslim while two are Kashmiri Pandit.
A logjam
The August 5 decision also brought about a crucial change in the bureaucratic structure. While Jammu and Kashmir had special status, only 50% of its All India Service officers were direct recruits chosen through examinations held by the Union Public Service Commission. The other came from Kashmir service officers who were promoted into All India Services. In other states, 67% of the officers are direct recruits while only 33% are officers inducted from the state services. When Jammu and Kashmir lost special status, it also became subject to the 67:33 rule.
Central changes apart, internal wrangles have meant promotions are stalled in both the Kashmir Police Service and the Kashmir Administrative Service.
“You can blame the failure to induct local KPS officers into the Indian Police Service on three reasons,” said a senior police officer in the Valley, speaking off the record. “The seniority disputes between officers, litigation and the failure of state governments in the past. There’s no word on when it’s going to happen.”
Since 2009, no Kashmir Police Service officer has been promoted into the Indian Police Service. At present, all 66 Indian Police Services officers in the Jammu and Kashmir cadre are those who were recruited directly through examinations held by the Union Public Service Commission. The total strength of the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s IPS cadre is 147, out of which 80 posts are for direct recruits and 67 slots are reserved for those promoted from the state service. A majority of the posts now lie vacant.
There is a similar logjam with inductions from the Kashmir Administrative Service into the Indian Administrative Service. “There has been no induction into the IAS for more than 10-11 years because of the dispute over the seniority list of the 1999 KAS batch,” said a Kashmir Administrative Service officer who did not want to be named. “There have been petitions, counter petitions and all those discussions but so far the logjam hasn’t been broken.”
Had the dispute been solved in time, the officer calculated, 50 to 55 Kashmir Administrative Service officers would have been inducted into the Central service over the last decade.
A poor track record
Even within the state services, observers have noted that recruitments have been skewed against Kashmiris for years. Historian and former civil servant Khalid Bashir Ahmad notes that between 1995 and 2014, over 65% of the state services were made up of recruits from Jammu and about 32.7% by recruits from Kashmir. This despite the Kashmir division being the most populous region of the former state.
As for Kashmiri representation in the police, Ahmad traces a long history of marginalisation that goes back to Dogra times. “During the last 102 years for which record is available, out of 34 police chiefs in the Muslim majority Jammu and Kashmir, only 2 were Muslims,” he writes. “In Ghulam Jeelani Pandit, the state had its last Muslim police chief as back as in 1989.”
The former minister who was imprisoned after August 5 was unsurprised by this track record. “This is nothing new,” he shrugged. “But what’s happening now is the culmination of ultimate design of Hindutva which is the decimation of Kashmiri Muslims.”

“The list is based on a survey that saw 12,000 respondents take part. These respondents, chosen from across the social, intellectual and professional lines included writers, artists, bureaucrats, senior journalists, social activists and businessmen. The man who has topped the list should not come at all as a surprise because he is not just the most influential Indian in India at this time but probably most influential Indian in the world, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Hindi heartland Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been liked by 97 percent of the respondents for his honest image and administrative qualities. Home Minister Amit Shah gets thumbs up from 96.5 percent for his determination, ability to take tough decisions and implement them. India’s well-known industrialist Ratan Tata has secured the fourth position with 95.2 percent votes. Mostly, people chose him on the basis of his social responsibility and astute entrepreneurial abilities. The fifth is Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, the richest man in India. He was chosen by respondents primarily for his contribution towards making the power of the Internet grow deeper in society.
For his efforts towards successfully containing COVID-19 spread in the state, Kerala Chief Minister gets the sixth position. Sri Sri Ravishankar, spiritual leader and messenger of world peace secured the seventh position. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has successfully made to the top 10. Respondents voted him for his clean image and efforts towards self-reliant India in defense manufacturing. The man of all seasons, NSA Ajit Doval, has secured the ninth spot, while Odisha chief minister who enjoys a great connect with common people, Naveen Patnaik comes 10th on the list. PM Modi’s handpicked man PK Mishra, his Principal Secretary is on the 11th position for his managerial skills and effective execution. The young and effective Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Heman Soren, is the 12th, and Delhi CM Arvind  Kejriwal has found the 13th place on the list.
Editorial director of Fame India Magazine, US Sonthalia on the preparation of the list said “There were a total nine heads including personality, impact, vision, image, pro-development outlook and efforts towards upliftment of the society under which we have carried out the survey to select these 50 most influential Indians of 2020. The number of respondents was around 12000 which includes people from the varied field like social work, theatre, cinema, art, journalism, industry, commerce and cooperative. Fame India’s objective behind acknowledgement of such people is to set a high-performance standard for the rest in the society”.
Founder of AAFT Sandeep Marwah said “These 50 Indians are the torch-bearers of the New India that we think of creating. The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand. These people are the living example of it”.
Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister who will always talk of growth, development and is known to be the man of his words, is 14th. For making positive reforms in Railways, Piyush Goel gets the 15th rank. ‘Sushasan Babu’ Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is the 16th for his pro-development governance in the state. Former health minister and BJP’s national president JP Nadda is the 17th, current Health Minister Dr Harshvardhan is the 18th, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla is the 19th, while Baba Ramdev who has taken ‘swadeshi’ to new heights is the 20th influential man on this list.
NDA secured 37.36 percent votes in 2019 Lok Sabha polls and got 303 seats. While Rahul Gandhi-led UPA got 19.01 percent of the total turnout and managed to take the tally to 52. The brighter side UPA got eight more seats than 2014. Rahul Gandhi, being the face of the largest Opposition party, secured the 21st spot. Isha foundation’s head spiritual leader Sadguru Jaggi Vasudevan is 22nd. Bollywood star Akshay Kumar is 23rd. Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Coal & Mines Pralhad Joshi has started a wave of reforms in the sector and thus gets 24th position, while Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar is 25th on the list.
Chief Minister of Goa and the suave politician Dr Pramod Sawant is 26th, Punjab Chief Minister and man of action Captain Amrinder Singh is 27th, Minister of State (IC) for Power and Renewables RK Singh is 28th and effective bureaucrat Ajay Bhalla (IAS) is the 29th on the list. The 30th on the list is Health Secretary Priti Sudan (IAS) who has been hitting headlines for all the good reasons of late. Dr Ajay Kumar (IAS), who has been immensely effective as Secretary Defence Manufacturing and Secretary Defence, has secured the 31st spot. India’s first Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, the industrialist Gautam Adani, Pharma giant Cadila’s owner Pankaj Bhai Patel, Sajjan Jindal, Founder of Avenue SuperMarts Radha Krishna Damani, T-Series’ Bhushan Kumar, Industrialist much accessible to common people Anand Mahindra, Sulabh International’s founder Dr Bindeshwar Pathak and IFFCO’s MD & CEO Dr US Awasthi have been placed between 32nd to 40th in the list. The Role Of Big Data Analytics In The Future Of Managers

Big Data Analytics is a buzz word today and the skills in its related technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, cloud computing and robotics for automation are driving the industry’s growth. As per the recent report, the IT companies are laying off their employees in thousands and at the same time looking for these skills. It says, “After thousands were fired by Infosys and Cognisant in the past six months, as many as 200,000 more may be at risk of losing their jobs in the next year as companies seek people with new skillsets, according to recruitment experts.” Two decades ago the people who face layoffs today had skills which were similarly valued. I lived through the IT revolution that began in the mid-1990s with the spread of the Internet into business and consequent changes in the way the business was done. In all the transitions that took place in these decades what survived is people who knew how to use technologies for business benefit.  There appears to be an uncanny parallel between what happened to the IT and what is happening to the Analytics today. Today Analytics skills are highly valued simply because they are in short supply. But will they remain the same in the coming years? The clichéd answer to such questions is to reskill. Of course, one needs to keep pace with rapid changes taking place in technological space, but it is not practicable to be competitive in changing technological skills. It is, however, possible to be competitive in using technology for the business benefit. If one is located in the business world, this is precisely the managerial skill that will always stand one in good demand.   Today, the typical way in which companies are organized to use analytics may be depicted by silos comprising Strategy, Data Science or analytics team and User Department teams. Many companies have a small in-house Analytics team representing these functions. Today, they are silos because there is a communication disconnect between them, each speaking its own language. The strategy typically conceives an analytics problem ideally in consultation with the user department and proposes it to the analytics team or data science team. The latter would take stock of data within the company and outside, formulate variables and try modelling the problem which, in process, undergoes a change from the original. There could be several such iterations and corresponding changes between the analytics team and strategy before it is cleared for execution. When it is executed and the solution is offered to the user department, it could be completely irrelevant and unusable, adding itself to worrying statistics of failures of analytics projects. It is, therefore, that Gartner reported in November 2017, that 60% of big data projects failed. A year later, Gartner analyst Nick Heudecker‏ said his company was “too conservative” with its 60% estimate and put the failure rate at closer to 85%. Today, he says nothing has changed.  Gartner isn’t alone in that assessment. Reports of failure of analytics project is a legion: In July 2019, VentureBeat AI reported that 87% of data science projects never make it into production, in January 2019, NewVantage survey reported that 77% of “business adoption” of big data and AI initiatives continued to represent a big challenge for business, (which meant three-fourth of the software being built is apparently collecting dust), in January 2019, Gartner also came out saying  80% of analytics insights will not deliver business outcomes through 2022 and 80% of AI projects will “remain alchemy, run by wizards” through 2020, in November 2017, CIO.com lists seven sure-fire ways to fail at analytics. Tom Davenport, a senior advisor at Deloitte Analytics stated, “The biggest problem in the analysis process is having no idea what you are looking for in the data.” In May 2017, Cisco reported that only 26% of survey respondents were successful with IoT initiatives, which meant 74% of them just failed.  This takes me two decades back when we used to read exactly similar things about the IT projects. When I ventured in to implement ERP in my company, one of the biggest projects in the Asia Pacific the frightful dictum was in the air that over 80% ERP projects fail to deliver business benefits. We averted this aftermath by being extra conscious about the business objectives at every point and in the course even realised that it was not technology alone but adequate technology insight and lots of business acumen that is what is required in any manager. The same could be said of the analytics, which of course has become big data analytics. Analytics reflects the trend towards automation; embedding solution into business processes. The challenge would shift from technology or analytics skill to essentially managerial skill which embeds knowledge of what various technologies are capable of, and which one would best serve one’s business strategy. People who developed these skills have risen to head businesses and are not the potential victims of layoffs.   The future manager thus will have to be well-grounded in business, having sharp strategic acumen and knowing ‘enough’ of analytics. This ‘enough’ can never be specified enough. The possible approach is to know the analytics technologies in vogue thoroughly enough by working them in hands-on mode. It should necessarily include Stats and Maths as well as coding in R, Python and SAS as the foundation. It should also include ETL technologies, visualization tools, predictive and prescriptive analytics, AI and Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Cloud computing and security, IoT Analytics. In management domain, the approach should be to build strategic perspective with the help of capsuled courses in most functional areas—Economic, Accounting, Marketing, Finance, Operations, OB/HR—and integrative capstone course capped with an opportunity to work long enough as an intern in a company. It should be so designed as to stress the problem areas so as to generate use cases for analytics. The managers should also be formally trained in strategy and equipped with supplementary skills of design thinking, storytelling with data, data strategy, analytics project management and ethical aspects in managing data, etc. Depending upon their choice of industry, they should also have an opportunity of specialization in certain areas. 1. Tell us about your StyleCracker journey? What were some of the biggest challenges, and some of the most exciting successes StyleCracker is the personal stylist to every Indian. What is most important to us is to build a scalable platform while still maintaining a very personal connect to each of our customers. So, on one hand, we are styling thousands of customers and shipping out several thousand products a week while on the other hand, each customer has to have a truly unique experience with us. Ensuring that we really understand our customers’ preferences and translate that to what they receive is always a key focus area for us.
When it comes to successes, I believe that our business is incredibly dynamic and we don’t have too much time to rest on our laurels. Having said that, I think the amount of sophistication that we have built around personalization in the fashion space is truly remarkable. The other commendable achievement has been our team’s ability to have built our offline business into being India’s largest fashion festival in a very short amount of time.
2. How would you describe your personal style?   Classic and minimal.
3. What is your favourite fashion capital in the world, and why? Mine would be Milan and New York. Milan because people from every strata of society dress effortlessly well; and New York because people there, use fashion to truly express themselves and their various personalities.

According to Forbes Magazine , he is currently (2017) the richest person in Europe, and the fourth richest in the world with an estimated net worth of $82 billion. He is also the wealthiest retailer in the world. He started as a shop hand for a local shirtmaker called Gala and then learned to make clothes by hand. In 1972, he founded Confecciones Goa (his initials in reverse), selling quilted bathrobes which Ortega produced using thousands of local women organised into sewing cooperatives. Later on, he and his wife, Rosalia Mera opened their first store which is the Zara. Ortega keeps a very low profile and known for his preference for a simple lifestyle. He didn't show any pictures of him. Until 1999, there's no pictures of Amancio had ever been published. But now, he is known as the fourth richest person in the world. So inspiring, isn't it? 
 - Mark Zuckerberg. Born on May 14, 1984, in White Plains, New York, Mark Zuckerberg co-founded the social-networking website Facebook out of his college dorm room. He left Harvard after his sophomore year to concentrate on the site, the user base of which has grown to more than 250 million people, making Zuckerberg a billionaire. The birth of Facebook was recently portrayed in the film The Social Network. Zuckerberg encountered different ups and downs in his career but he manage to surpassed all. He also undergone criticism. But inspite of all those he experienced, he became the youngest CEO and billionaire. He continue to help others. 5 Reasons Why Law Students Are Choosing Law Firms Over Litigation

Over the weekend, I have been reflecting on the past two months or so since I was rammed into by a bike while walking to office. I had, in January, shifted to Goa after having left a job at a litigation law firm in Delhi (that went ahead and featured on Vahura’s Best Law Firm Rankings this year). I was only wondering, what would have been the possibilities during the recovery period of the LCL tear on my right knee in case I was still working at the courts.
I came up with two options. I would have probably had to take three-to-four months off possibly without pay or quit the law firm. In addition, bear all medical costs since my medical insurance lapsed. This got me thinking, there are so many considerations that we lawyers and law students have to keep in mind while choosing a job. And quitting a job, but we’ll get to that later.
Let us look at the statistics. I did a simple google keyword search that read as “recruitment stats NLSIU Bangalore 2018” and this is what I found:
I believe the recruitment statistics for arguably the top most law school in India is self explanatory and I needn’t say more. You will find similar search results for other law schools. Don’t believe me? Try it for yourself.
Looking at these numbers, I did some quick research, sent out the word on LinkedIn and found some interesting opinions on why law students prefer working with law firms over pursuing a career in litigation.
Here are five reasons and varying perceptions as to why law students prefer jobs with law firms over pursuing litigation:
The Money is Good
What would you choose? A job that pays better or a job that pays less?
The numbers are always one of the major deciding factor, if given a choice. The mass recruiters or the Big 6 that the top law firms in India are often referred as pay in six to seven digit figures annually, to their freshers. These numbers keep changing, but the digits remain the same. You can give this article, which discusses the Top 10 Law Firms That Pay The Highest Salary In India, a read to get a clearer idea of the pay-scale and work at the top 10 law firms in India.
Naturally, when law students as well as lawyers see the immediate benefit that you derive in terms of money and the financial stability that it come with, they start looking out for opportunities that pay them. However, this is only one aspect.
Let us look at the fee structure at law schools. For instance, the five year B.A. LL.B at NLSIU Bangalore costs over 2 Lakh Rupees annually which would mean over 10 Lakh Rupees spent in 5 years of education. Similarly, Symbiosis Law School at Pune charges 2 Lakh 85 Thousand as fee in the first year. You can do the rest of the math, I’m sure. There are two ways of looking at this; one is that the job that you land must make up for the time and money that is spent towards legal education – five years and ten to fifteen lakhs spent on education is not a joke. And the second in all probability is to pay off student loans.
Majority law students end up deciding to give a shot at Harvey Specter over Alan Shore, looking at the money.
Law Firms Set a Better Platform
Nivedita Tayade, Senior Attorney at Mindcrest had a very interesting take on why law students may choose law firms. “A job on the hand is more like “you know what you want” kind of a situation. The firm is already at par and practicing in areas that you develop an interest in or are interested in. It’s a set platform for you where one just has to excel.”
Of course, law firms are often segregated into various teams such as IPR, M&A and PE, General Corporate, Real Estate, Infrastructure, Baking & Finance, Technology Media and Telecom, and not to forget Litigation. As rightly pointed out by Aman Parekh, Associate at India Law Alliance, “There are law firms who do litigation too; there is often a misconception amongst students that law firms only deal with corporate and company laws.”
The very fact that these law firms have been in existence for a while give you a set platform to indulge in and excel. In addition, the job that one partakes at a law firm may give them a better platform to move on to another law firm. It isn’t new to be using law firm experience to move on to another law firm or even in-house. So, it’s not just a platform where one can perform and excel, but also from where one can move on to better opportunities.
Devashish Jagirdar, a practising lawyer at the Bombay High Court, in response to my query on LinkedIn replied saying the exact same thing, “If your aim is to go independent eventually, or open your law firm for that matter, working with a law firm gives you contacts, and gives you the experience needed of how to be a counsel and what to expect from your attorney.”
Vast Exposure In Terms of Clientele
Both Devashish Jagirdar and Narendran Thyagarajan, practising advocates, admit that working with law firms gives you a bigger playground in terms of clientele. It is a common notion amongst students in law school that law firms have abundant clients, plethora of matters, hence humongous experience and never-ending learning.
This holds a hundred percent true. Law firms gain their business from companies. Whether it’s an acquisition, a legal opinion, or litigation, companies do require support from outside counsels. And they believe in going with firms as compared to individuals simply because they have more man-power, and relevant experience. Unlike in-house legal jobs where your business is your client, law firms deal with multiple clients daily and this gives them exposure in abundance. That exposure isn’t just limited to the number of clientele, but also to the quantity of work that comes in.
By the looks of it, it seems to be a win-win situation for a law student to be working with law firms as they have abundant work and clientele. However, in order to ace your way through law firms that have major corporate clients, you may want to stay ahead of your own game and take up a course on business laws.
This Job is Steady
Like I’d previously mentioned that with money comes in stability, working with law firms also ensure that the job is steady, the money keeps coming in every month and there is a balance. Litigation, more often than not, is not a steady job. One may see themselves running around the corridors of the court minutes before their matter is about to be called out looking for a case law that was asked last minute. And god forbid if you have to be in two different courts at the same time, yes that’s possible.
A lot of people call litigation thrilling as every day at work is a new day, with new possibilities and well, new lessons to learn. It is anything but steady and if you’re not satisfied, you’d be hopping from one advocate or firm to another. And this is exactly why, on a rather lighter note, Narendran Thyagarajan says working with law firms may bring you better marriage prospects than litigation, because not many understand what it is or what it takes to survive there.
Interest Driven Choice
A lot of law students choose to work with law firms purely because their interest lies in the kind of work that the law firms have to offer. For example, a batchmate of mine chose to work for Desai and Diwanji in Bombay right after law school because he always wanted to work on the commercial side of laws. There are very many students who end up choosing to work with law firms because they are driven by their passion or interest in business laws, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property laws, corporate laws, real estate laws, and the likes. And these students are in abundance. Not only do they need to genuinely develop their interest but also show enough skills to be able to ultimately make it to law firms. The firm is already at par and practicing in areas that you develop an interest in or are interested in. It’s a set platform for you where one just has to excel.”
Of course, law firms are often segregated into various teams such as IPR, M&A and PE, General Corporate, Real Estate, Infrastructure, Baking & Finance, Technology Media and Telecom, and not to forget Litigation. As rightly pointed out by Aman Parekh, Associate at India Law Alliance, “There are law firms who do litigation too; there is often a misconception amongst students that law firms only deal with corporate and company laws.”
The very fact that these law firms have been in existence for a while give you a set platform to indulge in and excel. In addition, the job that one partakes at a law firm may give them a better platform to move on to another law firm. It isn’t new to be using law firm experience to move on to another law firm or even in-house. So, it’s not just a platform where one can perform and excel, but also from where one can move on to better opportunities.
Devashish Jagirdar, a practising lawyer at the Bombay High Court, in response to my query on LinkedIn replied saying the exact same thing, “If your aim is to go independent eventually, or open your law firm for that matter, working with a law firm gives you contacts, and gives you the experience needed of how to be a counsel and what to expect from your attorney.”
Vast Exposure In Terms of Clientele
Both Devashish Jagirdar and Narendran Thyagarajan, practising advocates, admit that working with law firms gives you a bigger playground in terms of clientele. It is a common notion amongst students in law school that law firms have abundant clients, plethora of matters, hence humongous experience and never-ending learning.
This holds a hundred percent true. Law firms gain their business from companies. Whether it’s an acquisition, a legal opinion, or litigation, companies do require support from outside counsels. And they believe in going with firms as compared to individuals simply because they have more man-power, and relevant experience. Unlike in-house legal jobs where your business is your client, law firms deal with multiple clients daily and this gives them exposure in abundance. That exposure isn’t just limited to the number of clientele, but also to the quantity of work that comes in.
By the looks of it, it seems to be a win-win situation for a law student to be working with law firms as they have abundant work and clientele. However, in order to ace your way through law firms that have major corporate clients, you may want to stay ahead of your own game and take up a course on business laws.
This Job is Steady
Like I’d previously mentioned that with money comes in stability, working with law firms also ensure that the job is steady, the money keeps coming in every month and there is a balance. Litigation, more often than not, is not a steady job. One may see themselves running around the corridors of the court minutes before their matter is about to be called out looking for a case law that was asked last minute. And god forbid if you have to be in two different courts at the same time, yes that’s possible.
A lot of people call litigation thrilling as every day at work is a new day, with new possibilities and well, new lessons to learn. It is anything but steady and if you’re not satisfied, you’d be hopping from one advocate or firm to another. And this is exactly why, on a rather lighter note, Narendran Thyagarajan says working with law firms may bring you better marriage prospects than litigation, because not many understand what it is or what it takes to survive there.
Interest Driven Choice
A lot of law students choose to work with law firms purely because their interest lies in the kind of work that the law firms have to offer.
