soriku little mermaid thread part 4
(Part 3)
Part 4: Under a Watchful Eye
So right after Triton shatters Eric’s statue (rip) comes Ursula’s temptation. In the form of her pet eels lol: “We represent someone who can help you.”
“Someone who can make all your dreams come true.”
“Just imagine—you and your prince—together forever.”
Now how does Ursula already know to manipulate Ariel through Eric, without ever having met her? Because Ursula has been watching Ariel this whole time! Cool! Amazing. Fan-fucking-tastic.
Since the beginning of the movie. Ursula was watching Ariel to find a way to get to Triton. She’s after his crown, his power. Ursula isn’t after Ariel herself.
Kinda makes me think about MoM possibly having been watching Riku for who knows how the fuck long (*cough* the eye in all of Riku's blades until now), and manipulating/molding Riku to his will through Sora, as part of MoM’s plan against a bigger target: Darkness. Am I saying MoM is Ursula in this parallel? Yes. lol
Anyway, Ariel refuses to turn to Ursula for help at first, but the eels kinda shove the shattered remains of Eric’s statue—his broken face—in Ariel’s face, and she gives in.
I’ve said this before in some older post but, while this lines up well with Kh1 Riku and Maleficent, I gotta ask: might Riku be tempted once more? And by who? Oop
“Come in, my child. We mustn’t lurk in doorways. It’s rude. One might question your upbringing.”
A segway into more royal/god riku spam bc, Ariel literally gives up her home, her family, her voice, her status—her life as she knows it—to be reborn as a human. Delicious.
The spell. Ursula will turn Ariel into a human for three days (I wonder if that could ever come up in-game). For the spell to be permanent, Eric and Ariel have to share True Love’s Kiss before the sun sets on the third day. If they don’t, Ariel will turn back into a mermaid, and “belong” to Ursula.
The only thing Ursula asks for as payment, is Ariel’s voice.
Now the voice thing gets me looking every which way because—after a bunch of bs scribbling, I’ve semi come to equate Ariel’s lost voice with Sora’s lost memories, specifically his lost memory of Riku's sacrifice. Ya, it took me a minute because, well, Ariel is Riku. So I kept trying to think of what Riku could be made to give up in the future, for the sake of the parallel. After all, Ariel losing her voice is kinda the whole reason the plot happens the way it does.
But for now, I equate Ariel’s voice to Sora’s memories because, it’s the key thing that is the root of Eric’s and Sora’s confusion, regarding their true love. More on that later ig.
Ursula takes Ariel’s voice, and traps it. In a necklace. A necklace Ursula has been wearing this whole time.
Man, I hope we address the necklaces in riku game.
Ariel proceeds to like. Literally be reborn. She becomes like an egg/embryo thing and everything.
Riku?? Uh?????

How The Five Heads Land On LPL’s Blame Mountain
header for 背锅吧, a Chinese league community
背锅吧, literal translation of the name means “taking blames”, 锅 is wok, the action of carrying a big iron wok on your back means you’re taking the blames/fall for the failure.
a 背锅 meme
They have a tradition which has been strictly carried out since the day of founding, each year after worlds, they would pick one single LPL player(excpet for 2017 which I’ll explain later) who should be blamed the most for LPL not winning an international trophy, and paint his face on the blame mountain, which will be the community’s header for an entire year. Keep in mind 背锅吧 has 2,303,106 followers, it’s one of the biggest league communities and yes, pros visit it too.
Without further delay let’s dive into each head on the mountain.
First Head — Illusion
背锅吧 was founded in 2014, so when choosing for the first head, they went for the easiest target. At S2 worlds, only two LPL teams played, WE was beaten by 6 hour of silver scrapes. On the other hand, iG went out in the first round of elimination, got clean 0–2'd by M5. So picking from iG players is obvious, but who? Back then iG’s roster was Pdd, Illusion, Zz1tai, Kid and Xiaoxiao. There’s no way to sugarcoat it, Illusion has the least fans among the five, and jungler can always be at fault when losing, so he became the first head.
Second Head — Lucky
former Royal jungler Lucky
Royal was clean 0–3'd by SKT T1 at worlds 2013 final. Jungler Lucky’s Elise was outshined by Bengi’s Jarvan in game 1, which earned him the nicknme of “Spider man”. He wasn’t the worst performer that year, but he was the least favorite one.
Third Head — Pomelo
former OMG jungler/support Pomelo
OMG started out strong in 2013, but only achieved stardom level in 2014. They were invited to play in 2014 All Star Event in Paris, and made it all the way into the final by beating C9. At the time, OMG was seen as the best team in China, and SKT T1 has been living under the shadow of the Samsung kingdom since spring, fans had high hopes of OMG bringing back LPL’s first international trophy, and most of all, defeating the demon king by doing so.
Yet again, 0–3'd by SKT T1, the frustration level among fans were high, and jungler Pomelo, who did this ↓↓↓ in game 1 became the easiest target.
He encountered Bengi cashing his jungle and threw his spear for one tiny 4 gold of creep, which caused his life and team’s first blood. Level 4 Patheon challenging level 6 Kha’Zix became a well known meme and Pomelo landed on the blame montain.
Pomelo didn’t necessarily costed OMG the entire game, but nobody landed on blame mountain because they deserved to.
Fourth Head — TBQ
former LGD jungler TBQ
There’s no way around it, 2015 LGD was claimed to win worlds and failed to make it out of groups, leaving out meta op pick Morde three times was also a big meme. Of all five of LGD players, TBQ was choose as head on the blame mountain mostly because in their game against kt, when kt’s draft was Renekton/Gragas/Lulu/Morde/Thresh, this is TBQ’s Eve item builds:
And he was seen constantly running away from enemies, not doing what an Eve should do(sneak out from behind to gank).
Another reason as to why he’s on the mountain is because after worlds, there were rumors going around about him participating in betting, which never had any evidence, but doesn’t stop fans from pouring their frustration on one single target.
GodV also has a “honorary” mention above the montain.
GodV’s backwards Varus Q
Fifth Head — Clearlove
EDG’s jungler, Clearlove
Clearlove is on the mountain because of that one game at worlds 2016 where his Leesin’s damage was 4396. His not being able to sacrifice himself for gank, always being seen running away from fights(in this community’s eye) is another reason.
Sixth Man — Bang
2017’s 背锅吧 header
This was last year’s header. Two LPL teams made it into the semi final, them losing to SKT T1 and the eventual champion Samsung both in intense best of fives has made the community decided to give LPL players a break, also because there was a bigger target, Bang.
In the final, Bang’s Tristana in game 3 failed a rocket jump and died first resulting in SSG securing baron is the key moment for why he’s on the mountain. Faker’s cry after losing the final touched many hearts, and hating on Bang helps some of them getting over the frustration.
Seventh Man — Uzi
The community is currently furious to see Uzi appear on the head as a cute cartoon character but not carved on the blame mountain, they’re posting threads to question mods’ decision everyday since the new header was put up.
This toxic wild side of Chinese league community is very different from the weibo fandom, but both are true sides of the Chinese league community. When it comes to talking trash, Chinese fans beat most people.

Thank you for tagging me @bobakick and @jknip3 <3
1. why did you choose your url?
I knew Cobra Kai was going to start haunting me and leaving me in something like a fugue state, and also I had been thinking about a silent short film called Sonámbulo (based on the film Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari) that has lived in my mind rent free since high school. So it just seemed very fitting. Sadly the url sonambulo was already taken but this one wasn't.
2. any side-blogs? if you have them, name them and why you have them.
Yes, and this is one of them. I have my main that I created when I first signed up for tumblr, and aside from that I have 4 still semi active side-blogs (apart from this one). One is for youtube stuff, one is for a range of interests I didn't feel like putting on my main, one is for more nsfw/funny stuff that includes one of the interests in the previous side-blog, and one is just an nsfw blog. I like to keep my worlds separate ig.
3. how long have you been on tumblr?
I think I joined in 2013 or 2014? I've only had this blog for a few months though.
4. do you have a queue tag?
No, I send all my unhinged thoughts to the internet as soon as I'm done typing them out.
5. why did you start your blog in the first place?
I honestly could not say. I could have gotten into this fandom just fine with one of my other blogs. I don't have drama with anyone, I'm relatively invisible either way, my friends would be happy to listen to me ramble about a show they know nothing about. It was simply time to draw a new line in the sand and start a whole new blog klshfas.
6. why did you choose your icon/pfp?
Uno causes chaos, and that card causes it especially well. I could think of no better metaphor for the unhinged whirlwinds that are Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence.
7. why did you choose your header?
I was feeling ultra Mexican and ultra nostalgic for those confections when I chose it and now I'm too attached to change it.
8. what’s your post with the most notes?
It's definitely the post where I suggest that Hit Me Baby One More Time should be on the Cobra Kai soundtrack.
9. how many mutuals do you have?
In general? Idk. On this blog? I think like one (shoutout to @likethegardensofbabylonn!) because I'm paranoid about people knowing what my main is. No I'm not hiding any secrets, I'm just an obsessively private person. As time goes on my mutual count will go up as I relax more.
10. how many followers do you have?
On this blog - 18. I am still setting down roots but also like I said - I'm invisible.
11. how many people do you follow?
So many. Too many. I've never unfollowed anyone unless they just really started spouting off stuff I morally disagreed with, like terf bullshit and stuff like that.
12. have you ever made a shitpost?
Everything I post. My target audience is me and it shows.
13. how often do you use tumblr each day?
It varies. Sometimes excessively and sometimes not at all.
14. did you have a fight/argument with another blog once? who won?
No klashf I am a wallflower. No one who has the energy to pick fights would ever look twice at me.
15. how do you feel about “you need to reblog this” posts?
I'm a spiteful, petty little bitch so that's basically your answer.
16. do you like tag games?
Yes I adore them. It take me awhile to get to them but I love being tagged. Makes me feel fuzzy.
17. do you like ask games?
Absolutely, but I don't reblog them a lot because I'm really bad at answering asks. I forget they're waiting for me and then I'm just like "Lol oops." But when I do reblog them it's because I'm starved for attention and/or bored, and therefore more likely to answer them.
18. which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous?
Well I only have the one mutual and idk if she's tumblr famous. I'll let her weigh in on that herself. But what even is tumblr famous anyway amirite lads?
19. do you have a crush on a mutual?
Short answer: no
Long answer: If you'd like to apply for the position for mutual I have a crush on, simply follow me. From there, you'll first have to engage in many a conversation with me that results in paragraphs of thoughts, observations, meta, and fic ideas that I could feasibly turn into multiple essays (I won't but the point is that I could if I wanted to.) Then you have to engage in hand-to-hand combat with me (notice I didn't mention whether you have to win or lose) and still be willing to talk to me afterwards. Then, and only then, will I yearn to plant one on you.
20. tags?
If you follow me, you are tagged.

It’s been such a long while. I’m going to fight the urge to do that thing where I lament about how much time has passed and all the ways I suck for not posting more often…
Anyway, hi. It’s good to be back - and I mean that in a few ways. We recently got back from an amazing 5 day trip to Colorado Springs, that equal parts vacation and hard work. Well, if you’re Mike, it was more hard work than anything, but I got to unwind a little and immerse myself in mind-blowing scenery before immersing myself in the deep end of learning about my craft. More on that later.
I haven’t really been to the mountains before. I grew up near “hills” and have skied “ranges” and toured “highlands” and lived near “escarpments”, but I’ve never really experienced that #mountainlife. Colorado has been on my bucket list since I was a little kid, mostly because the name itself sounds like an adventure epic. Thanks to Mike’s hard work, we suddenly had an opportunity, and I couldn’t wait to see somewhere new. Like, totally, never-seen-it-before new. The majority of the past 6 months have been flat af. My eyes were actually hungry for it.
We flew with friends to Denver, rented a car and drove south to Colorado Springs, a smaller, chill little city just over an hour south, and way closer to the mountains. They grew increasingly more impressive with every mile we drove - a car full of creatives and we started to run out of expletives to describe what we were seeing. Half an hour into the road trip, I feigned wanting a quick break at a look-out point so that we could take some photos, but if I’m being honest, I needed some fresh air to calm the sensory overwhelm that was swamping my sleep-deprived brain. There was too much to take in; too many colours, too many beautiful subtleties, too much dramatic contrast, too many extraordinary qualities of light, too much texture and pattern and rhythm. Too much. And not quite enough oxygen for my little low-lander lungs, as I felt the overwhelm of the scenery highlight the fact that I was feeling actually breathless. In those 2 hours, I realized that all I could do is just greedily open myself up to this shameless consumption of beauty, open my eyes to every damn detail and trust that my brain wouldn’t short out, open my lungs as wide as I could (given my usual shallow breathing habit) and trust that my lung capacity/comfort would improve, and if I could just do that, this trip might just be the thing to blow the front door open on the past 6 months.
At the risk of sounding like I’m backtracking on my promise of not lamenting on all the time that has passed, the past 4 months (well, year, really…) have been a thing. I’m going to assume that if you are reading my blog you might have some interest in the environment that feeds the life that feeds my process as an artist, so I’ll be brief in catching you up here. Letting go in CO was really hard, because the past 6 months have been all about holding on for dear life. Our financial situation hasn’t been exactly “fluid”, I’ve been working longer hours than I’d like, I’ve been in more constant pain than I’d like, there’s been an unending shitshow of chasing clients to pay their invoices, big changes rolled through Mike’s work life, there has been so much work to do all the time, and a long-ass, very cold winter to contend with (although we did a pretty good job getting out into it as much as we could.) And then there’s the neighbour sitch. For 10 months we have been living next to an ever-changing cast of loud, violent characters who have kept us awake all hours of the night, whose constant high-level noise have stressed my cats out to the point of visibly changing their behaviours and personalities, and whose explosive anger has woven a sharp thread of uneasiness into the fabric of our home life. Hell is other people*. Shitty neighbours are the worst.
Anyhow, onwards. The neighbours are finally gone (evicted; like I said, they were terrible), the shitshow has been reduced to chasing just one client (goddamn it Kennedy Ford, pay me…) and while it won’t immediately improve my financial situation, I’m dropping back to working 3 days a week at the shop instead of 4, which will probably help reduce my retail fatigue* (and possibly the extensor tendonitis in my feet) and allow me more time to work on my freelance business and to get into the studio to prepare to for the upcoming show season.
It will also give me more time to hang out here. I’ve been aiming to “complete” my website for some time, but the longer I work on it, the more I realize that completing what is supposed to be a running log of my creative life is impossible. I’ve put it off for almost 4 months, citing all of the above as reasons why I couldn’t get it done. So I’m “launching” it this way - incomplete - on the 3rd anniversary of my cancer surgery, feeling a bit silly and sentimental that this little project that I’ve been planning, working through and dreaming about for probably a decade is finally aloft. I’m proud to say that this site is me, as far as representing myself digitally, and it will stand as my sounding board and experiential diary of my creative life. I intend to write more about how I’ve gotten to be 43 yrs old as a semi-fuctioning artist/human, about how Mike and I navigate running our businesses together, and my on-going observations and frustrations with this life I am living. I am not pretending that I know even 1% of it all, but I’m 43 and I’ve lived some shit and I’m still making art, now more than ever. That is my motivation for this website, at its more basic. That, and publishing my work. Oh, and selling stuff
Aaaaaanyway… So, when we were in Colorado, I had the great fortune (and fun) of studying with Bonnie Nelson and Jerry Ruhland of Cottonwood Silversmithing and Lapidary Supply in downtown Colorado Springs. I spent about 6 hours a day on Saturday and Sunday, learning the ropes of casting a wire ingot, drawing it out to beautiful bezel wire with the rolling mill (which really put me through the ropes of learning how to fully use my recently acquired rolling mill!) I worked on a pendant using a eudialyte cabochon and 5 tiny faceted sapphires haloed above, that Jerry spent most of Sunday showing me how to flush set. Bonnie taught me about fold forming while we put some copper through its paces, and Jerry taught me some fabrication and hammering techniques that completely changed how I understand metal. As instructors they were excellent; friendly and open and eager to let me work at my pace in my own direction. I loved working in another artist’s studio, and getting a feel for their ergonomics and workflow. I loved it so much that as soon as I came home to my studio, I knew it totally had to change. It had to change because I had.
I think the thing that really stuck with me the most from studying with them was of how capable they held me. Both instructors gave me lots of positive feedback on my technique and approach, which made me feel skilled, relaxed and resourceful. I rarely feel this way in my studio. So much of my inner dialog is low-level imposter mutter when I am working - I am generally convinced that I am doing everything wrong (sometimes that is backed up by project fails) and that everyone will be able to tell that I am teaching myself as I go along, that I obviously haven’t gone to school for this, and that because I haven’t been able to connect with any sort of supportive metalsmithing or jewellery artist community here I must be unqualified, unlikeable, or an outsider. I know it sounds melodramatic, but this is how my brain works.
The kind of practical, targeted instruction and positive, friendly feedback that I received in Colorado, coupled with the intense atmospheric beauty really made me soar. I had renewed confidence when I got home, full to overflowing with ideas and audacity and with a newly expanded skill set. I couldn’t get into the studio fast enough to tear it all down and rebuild it into something more supportive, something evolved. After spending a few days creeping Kijiji for a suitable desk, a perfect one showed up in the garbage area behind our building, and Mike heroically got it up 2 flights of stairs, through the confusion-corner that is the hallway to the studio, and assembled for me as a surprise when I came home from work. I bought some casting equipment so that I could start reclaiming some of my sterling scrap to make new work. I got to know my new big torch better and experimented with drawing bezel wire on my own mill. And through all these experiments, this whirlwind, this chaos, some strong new work has been made and there is more underway.
I admit that sometimes I’m not very good at remembering that there are edges to the storm when I’m stuck in the middle of it. It’s been a long, flat low period, the last few months, but just as flat plains feed a gathering storm front, they are also instrumental in pushing the storm through. The last decade of doubt and timidity about publishing myself and my work, the last 10 months of hellish neighbours, the last 6 months of crap luck and kicks when we’re down…all flattened, blown away, as if by wind whipping down the mountains. With this new confidence, this new certainty, it’s easier for me to see each day as fresh and new now, even if it isn’t, really.
I’m eager now to just work at what I’m here to do. I’m glad to be able to share my perspective and my work here, and I’m absolutely thankful for any and all support be it reading my words, engaging with me here or on IG or irl, or purchasing my work to embellish your life in some way. The storm has passed, clear skies ahead. Thank you for holding fast.

Buongiorno a tutti!
• #totopacco #nataleconvanity2017 #vanityspaceblog #vanityspace #vanityspacebeautyadvent #calendargirls #ecobioblog #ecobioblogger #naturalproducts #crueltyfree #madeinitalywithlove #beautyblogger #naturalbeauty #lovenature #ecofriendly #organicproduct #organicbeauty #maternatura #skincare #haircare #vegan #veganok #vegetarian #vegetarianok #crueltyfreebeauty #bio #ecobio #biologico #organico #naturale

Allora.
Prego.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
A voi.
Probabilmente continuerò a comprarle.

Will Trade Wars Persist After the US Election?
Trade Wars, US-China Relationship, EU-US Trade Relations Talking Points:
US-led trade wars with China and the EU likely to continue under Trump administration
Multi-layered geopolitical issues not pertaining to trade may spill into trade discussions
Biden administration may ease tensions with EU but less incentive to relieve China pressure
Donald Trump Becomes President
Doubling Down on China
If re-elected, President Donald Trump would likely double down on China and seek additional concessions through “Phase 2” of their long-awaited, comprehensive trade agreement. While “Phase 1” was signed, the coronavirus pandemic complicated what was an already-fragile situation. Domestic demand was hammered and as a result, China was unable to hold up its end of the bargain.
10 Key Dates in US-China Trade War Timeline
January 22, 2018: US tariffs all imported washing machines and solar panels (not just from China)
March 8, 2018: US orders 25% tariff on steel imports, 10% tariff on aluminum
April 2, 2018: China imposes tariffs of up to 25% on 128 US products
August 7, 2018: US posts list of $16 billion of Chinese goods to be taxed at 25%. China retaliates with 25% duties on $16 billion of US goods
December 1, 2018: China and US agree to 90-day ceasefire, both sides talk to discuss resolution
May 5,2019: After trade talks failed, Trump tweets intent to raise tariffs on $200b of Chinese goods to 25% on May 10
August 1, 2019: US-China trade talks failed at G20, Trump announces 10% tariff on $300b of Chinese imports
August 5, 2019: China halts US agricultural purchases, USD/CNY breaks past 7.000 exchange rate
September 20, 2019: After 2-day meeting, USTR announces tariff exclusions on 400 Chinese products
October 11, 2019: Trump announces Phase 1 deal. It is officially signed on January 15, 2020
There are an additional +30 key dates worthy of accounting, but the most recent developments at the time of writing are listed in this article.
Furthermore, reconciliation is made even more difficult based on different accounting methods both the US and China employ. Not entirely by coincidence, each sides’ approach favor their respective positions. Mr. Trump’s pivot towards greater leniency in the trade war in late 2020 may have been the result of a practical maneuver to avoid stirring economic and financial turbulence ahead of the election.
Impact of US-China Trade War on Foreign Exchange Markets – Daily Chart

Having said that, if re-elected, the President would likely revive pressure on China alongside an aggressive pursuit for the ratification of “Phase 2”. This may also occur in tandem with the diplomatic strains with Beijing over the sweeping national security bill for Hong Kong that has drawn international criticism. Growing tension over that geopolitical hot spot could spill over into trade talks like it did in 2019.
Another hot-button issue that may rattle stocks and cycle-sensitive assets are issues pertaining to China-based technology software. Controversy over TikTok, WeChat and Huawei’s 5G installations continue to be sticking points in cross-Pacific relations and will only likely be amplified under a Trump administration. The restriction of technology exports to Huawei has led China to start creating a plan to develop its own semi-conductors.
Political stress in the South China Sea over Beijing’s military and economic activities have also intensified US-China relations. In addition to island-building and base constructions, the Asian giant’s aggressive claim to strategic fisheries has further created regional discontent with Vietnam, Taiwan and the Philippines to name a few. The Trump administration’s stronger stance against China could raise the risk of a head-on conflict – though this is still a relatively low probability.

Together, these geopolitical risks could put a premium on haven-linked currencies like the US Dollar and anti-risk Japanese Yen but a discount on growth-anchored FX like the Australian and New Zealand Dollars. They could be particularly susceptible to deteriorating US-China tensions given their strong reliance on the latter’s robust economic performance. This dynamic may be amplified if these issues spill over into trade talks.

Honing in on Europe
From a market-oriented perspective, the re-election of Donald Trump could push the US Dollar higher along with the anti-risk Japanese Yen based on trade considerations discreetly. In his first term, the President not only started a trade war with China that many believe throttled global growth prospects, but his administration’s policies also fractured relations with Europe. The latter was hit with aluminum and steel tariffs with threats of additional import duties.
Arguably the most formidable tax threat against Europe – which has not yet been taken off the table – is auto tariffs. This one in particular could be economically devastating since it would directly impact Germany – the region’s largest economy and biggest car manufacturer – the hardest. Last year, Trump almost used Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, a Cold War-era policy measure that would have increased auto tariffs by 25%.
The European Union responded in kind by using tariffs targeted at politically-strategic states with key exports. Orange juice and bourbon were two of the many products that were hit. The former is a key export from Florida, a swing state in US elections and the latter is a signature export of Kentucky – the state of Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell.
10 Key Dates in US-EU Trade War Timeline
March 1, 2018: Trump announces US is preparing to impose metal tariffs
March 3, 2018: EU plans to retaliate with politically-strategic tariffs like Bourbon and orange juice
March 8, 2018: US orders 25% tariff on steel imports, 10% tariff on aluminum
March 22, 2018: US gives temporary exemptions to the EU among others
May 22, 2018: US announces in investigation on whether auto imports pose a national security threat
June 1, 2018: EU-US trade talks fail on permanent exemption from aluminum and steel tariffs
June 6, 2018: US imposes tariffs on EU, Europe says ready to respond with €2.8b worth of duties
July 1, 2018: EU warns US that nearly $300b of US auto exports may be hit with tariffs
July 25, 2018: Trump and then-EC President Junker broker a deal, metal tariffs are lifted
Note: From July 25, 2018 on, the EU and US engaged in a multiple tit-for-tat trade exchanges and threats of additional countermeasures too long to list. The most recent one is listed in the paragraph below.
An almost two-decade trade dispute with the World Trade Organization (WTO) over illegal subsidies to aircraft giants Airbus and Boeing are another force widening the US-EU rift. The most recent ruling tilted in favor of Washington, which was given the largest arbitration award in the organization’s history. It authorizes the US to legally impose $7.5 billion worth of tariffs on European goods – and Washington took it.
This came much to the chagrin of EU policymakers who were hoping to reach a tariff-free resolution. In mid-August, Washington said it would keep a 15% tariff on Airbus and a 25% tariff on other European goods. Brussels is now waiting to hit back with its own tariffs should it be afforded WTO approval for illegal US subsidies to aeronautical giant Boeing.
Diverging foreign policy approaches in the Middle East – specifically towards Iran – may also add another layer of geopolitical tension that hinders cross-Atlantic cooperation. After Trump backed out of the 2015 nuclear deal and re-imposed sanctions on Iran, EU policymakers scrambled to find ways to incentivize Iran to stick to the agreement. This came much to the disdain of key officials in the Trump administration.
European officials created what is known as the Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges (INSTEX). This special purpose vehicle (SPV) allows European firms to circumvent US sanctions by facilitating non-SWIFT and non-US Dollar denominated trade with Iran. Washington warned that such an action could result in the sanctioning of EU firms, but Brussels made it clear that such policies could result in tariffs on US firms.
Joe Biden Becomes President
Lighter Pressure on China
Given what Democratic nominee Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris have said in the election cycle, it appears their approach to China on trade will have a lighter touch. Mr. Biden said that “America’s farmers have been crushed by [Trump]’s tariff war with China”. Harris echoed this sentiment, saying that the economic conflict was “punishing American consumers [and] killing American jobs”.
Having said that, the removal of tariffs may come with strings attached. In order to avoid being labeled as ‘soft on China’, especially with Beijing’s national security bill in Hong Kong, Biden may also have to stand up to the Asian giant. In addition to growing tension in the South China Sea, he may have to leverage alleviating pressure on trade in exchange for strategic geopolitical concessions in the aforementioned areas.
The prospect of reconciliation – or at least not escalating tension – could boost market sentiment and help restore confidence in the gradual restoration of international trade norms, a considerable contribution to global growth. Cross-continental equity markets would likely rally from this prospect along with growth-anchored currencies like the Australian and New Zealand Dollars. The anti-risk Japanese Yen and US Dollar, however, may not thrive in this environment.
Reconciling With Europe
In line with Biden’s comparatively more conventional approach to policy, cross-Atlantic reconciliation would likely be high on the agenda. Repealing the $7.5 billion worth of tariffs on European products and general normalization of bilateral trade relations could be one part of a broader multi-pronged effort to restore fractured relations. This could help lift equities but undercut demand for havens like the US Dollar.
Having said that, Biden may encounter some friction with EU policymakers on issues pertaining to digital sovereignty, through perhaps to a lesser degree than what Trump has faced. In 2019, France almost signed into a law a digital tax that appeared to overwhelmingly target US firms. The Trump administration fell back on their modus operandi and subsequently threatened to impose tariffs if the bill became law.
The so-called GAFA group – Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon – have also had run-ins with EU lawmakers. What a resolution under Biden’s administration would look like is unclear, but what is almost certain is the expectation of continued tension between EU officials and US tech giants. Uncertainty here may hurt technology stocks, but the ripple effect may be comparatively smaller than if Trump were to deal with it.

Coastal Farmhouse Home Decor
Homes built by Timber Trails Development Company and designed by Julie Howard (previously featured here – a must-see post!, here, here, here, here, here & here) always become very popular whenever I share them here on Home Bunch or on my Instagram.
Here, the designer explains more details about this coastal farmhouse with fresh home decor ideas: “The inspiration behind our Timber Trails Beach House was thinking about when it was going to hit the market. It was built as a spec house that we knew would hit the market in February. February in Chicago is pretty dreary and everyone seems to be looking forward to spring break. I kept seeing the hanging chairs from Serena and Lily coming through my IG feed and I was inspired to build a house that would be worthy of those cool chairs. The beach house was underway!”
Find a comfy spot, pin your favorite farmhouse coastal interior ideas and get inspired to get your home ready for spring! Think happy colors!

Wallpaper
“I selected this wallpaper after all the colors were selected. It just happened to have the PERFECT shades to tie the whole house together. Every contractor that entered the house was sure to tell me how much they loved the wallpaper. That never happens as they usually have a lot of opinions about choices like that. I could not have been more thrilled the day it went up. The whole house was tied together. I think people underestimate the power of wallpaper. It really should not be cut from the budget because it’s usually one of the most memorable parts of any design.” – Julie Howard – interior designer for Timber Trails Development Company.

The horizontal lines on the windows inspired me to take the shelves all the way across the windows on the main wall of the kitchen. When we solidified the beach theme the color I choose for the island and shelves was the next decision. The color is actually far darker and more grey in person than in the photos.
