Honestly y'all I can't imagine Aloy dating/liking anyone other than a girl, like, her interactions are on average way richer and way more engaged with lady NPCs (not to say that there aren't rich and engaging interactions with guy characters, there are, but Aloy herself seems way less interested/invested in those than the ones she has with girls)
#just thinking about signal spike like the crush was SO obvious#closest guy character contender is kotallo but I attribute their bond to shared love for combat and exacting justice like obv youre gonna b#generally affectionate with people who share your views and approach to the world#& that doesnt mean youre into them it just means you've found a valuable companion of any sort#like even aloy and sekya disagreeing on seyka being super loyal to her tribe is a good interaction bc aloy respects/likes people#who are strong in their beliefs as long as theyre using them to make people's lives better and seyka's loyalty does do that for her tribe#but she seems way more interested in other strong-willed women than strong-willed men#also her personality reminds me of many lesbians I know irl (I say this very affectionately)#she doesn't give me bi vibes at all#txt

L.A. Calling
From one red-head protagonist to another, I thought the brief lull during the holiday season (for games I was interested in anyways) would be the perfect opportunity to try out the Burning Shores DLC for Horizon: Forbidden West. After all, there was a reason why I kept the game despite finishing it after a hundred hour marathon of a month gaming last year. That reason, of course, was to ensure I knew the new story threads leading into the third game. But with the passing of Lance Reddick, it was also a chance to catch a glimpse of his last performance as Sylens - Aloy's reluctant ally.
So, from the highs of the Star Wars universe, I plunged back down to a post-apocalyptic Earth where robot dinosaur roam and a rogue A.I. is hurtling back to destroy what remains of humanity. Good stuff!
Following on from the ending of Forbidden West, Burning Shores sees Aloy heading down to the ruins of Los Angeles after being notified by Sylens that Walter Londra, a member of Far Zenith, had headed there following his arrival on Earth. Aloy agrees to investigate and heads down the coast on the back of a Sunwing.
As she approaches the the remains of Los Angeles, Aloy is shot down by a drone tower. With the help of Seyka, a member of the Quen, they take down the machines in the area before heading to Fleet's End: the settlement the Quen have made since floundering in Los Angeles after a typhoon.
It isn't long before Aloy agrees to help the Quen out and find their missing people. And it certainly wasn't very long before I was scrambling across the map of old Los Angeles to scrounge up collectibles and completing the scattered side quests and errands available on the map.
Could it have benefited with having a Tallneck to climb up? Yes, but given Aloy had flight on her side (granted soon after taking down the first drone tower), it wasn't very long before I managed to explore most of the map and engaged with a few select new machines like the Bilegut and the Stingspawn.
From a narrative perspective, Burning Shores didn't really add anything new to the overarching plot except another scavenger hunt across an open world for a weapon to take down Nemesis. Or, perhaps, the third game will truncate the search a little by focusing it once more in some area of the North Americas. Here's hoping, though, the Horizon series takes our allies across the seas and try something a little more different from the remnants of the ol' United States of America.
At the very least, though, Aloy walked away from the adventure with a new ally she was keen to work with. All throughout the DLC, Seyka stayed by Aloy's side and proved to be an effective fighter. Was it any wonder she proved to be Aloy's first actual love interest?
Both of them are capable warriors and hunters of machine. Both are practical problem-solvers, doing what needs to be done instead of fussing about if it'll offend someone's sensibilities. And both are driven.
I'm actually somewhat relieved Aloy didn't try to push Seyka away. Although, it did take her a while to finally admit the impending threat that was Nemesis heading back towards Earth, keen to destroy the Earth. Still, Seyka had her own secrets when it came to her sister and her fears Kina had willingly joined up with Walter Londra (a fairly forgettable antagonist) who was willing to irradiate the surrounding land in order to escape back into space and be surrounded by a loving and brainwashed cadre of followers.
Combat-wise, Burning Shores added in a few new different skills to tackle on enemies. In the end, though, I found myself still relying on tried and true abilities. Given it had also been a year since I last played Forbidden West, my skills were also quite a bit rusty. So, I'm not ashamed to admit I did dumb the difficulty down just to ensure I could enjoy the story rather than struggle in a high-end area because I'd forgotten Aloy couldn't parry attacks like Cal Kestis or that the way she normally tackled enemies was from afar with ranged attacks.
It was also a matter of relearning the status effects of the game, like drenched and frozen and shock and corrosion.
Targeting weak points also proved to be a trying affair after all the different games I'd played over the year. Especially given how the machines move and make it difficult to target the one spot that'll do MASSIVE damage.
Or maybe I just need to 'git gud' as the pro gamers like to say.
Overall, I enjoyed my time with Burning Shores. It was good to dive back into the Horizon universe and tackle on a map that wasn't as large as the base game. It also helped there weren't a ton of collectibles needed to be found and unearthed. So, my map wasn't entirely pockmarked with '?' to drive my curiosity and insatiable need to uncover every. Single. Point. Of. Interest.
Thank goodness for small mercies.
Now, if you'll excuse me, there are huge open-world games where I need to collect a thousand and one items calling my name.

okay horizon shipping rant skip if you like
but why... i mean so sincerely WHY isn't there more love for Varl and Aloy as a ship???
like aloy and erend have a cult following and i so get it,
aloy and kotallo precious warriors i love it i totally get it,,
aloy with talanah and alva and sekya and every woman she's ever met i love it i'm here for it she's super gay and i get it!!!
i'm very much a multi shipper here, i could see her with so many different people. but i'm noticing an absolutely shocking lack of love from the fanbase for her and varl
like i get it, he's with zo and something bad happens (i don't wanna talk about it)
but COME ON GUYS
he's one of her first real friends, and the only friend she has left from the nora. the first person she trusts with a focus. at the end of zero dawn she offers to bring him into her world, and she Only offers that to him. when she runs off alone he refuses to go home with the rest of the nora and literally follows her to the ends of the earth to join her in a cause completely unknown to him. at that point he's not commited to her mission, he barely understands her mission!!-- he's committed to Her. and as the game goes on he commits himself to every friend she makes and does all he can to make them comfortable and included at the base. he risks his life time and time again, saving her in the most desperate situations. he is CLEARLY in love with her before zo shows up, and Aloy is clearly hurt by him moving on even though she wasn't ready to be with anyone yet herself. he pledged his life to her and he fully followed through in every way
i get why people have other favorites but god it's just surprising how small a percentage of the fan base was rooting for them yknow?? when for me they rot my brain and warm my heart all at once
tldr i love aloy shipped with anybody (except nil ew) but her and varl are my otp
and zo can be their third
thank u

Doodled chakotays sister sekya while watching prodigy:D
Out of all the characters I’ve created lore for so far, hers is my favorite. I was going to post it months ago until I realized I never saved the file 😀
rip.
I tried my best to make them look similar since the books say they could pass as twins or something like that. But I wanted to give a few of her own distinct features

Forbidden West's Queerest Quest
I'm doing an NG+ of Forbidden West and I just completed the "A Soldier's March" sidequest, and it has a surprising amount of queer content. First of all, we meet Wekatta, an openly trans Tenakth soldier, and I love having this kind of representation. But at the end of the final cutscene, Rokko (who was unable to complete the March due to the avalanche) says that he hopes he and Penttoh can fight in the same squad one day. Afterwards, Penttoh's sister says "He's cute" to Penttoh, obviously referring to Rokko.
At first, I thought she was expressing her own attraction to Rokko, but the way she says it - looking at Penttoh - suggests that she was more pointing this out to Penttoh and not-so-subtly suggesting that Penttoh should pursue Rokko, implying that Penttoh is attracted to men and his sister is accepting to the point of encouraging her brother to date men.
This just might be the queerest sidequest in Forbidden West not featuring Sekya or Petra.

you're bleeding. - sekya / aloy
LEAPLASHERS ARE SEYKA'S LEAST FAVORITE, with the exceptions of all giant machines, of course. they just aren't encountered nearly as much. unless you're with aloy. metal death included. usually a leaplasher's jump can be predicted but sometimes these corrupted machines are extremely volatile and unpredictable. THIS LEAPLASHER AS AN EXAMPLE.
it wasn't particularly bad though. it won't even need stitches, she just needs some pressure. it's just that aloy herself caught her off guard as the one to help seyka stand. the burning shores aren't the easiest for quen scouting or hunting parties. seyka touched the cut on her forehead, hissed, as if she didn't expect that to hurt before she just reaches forward and wraps her arms around aloy's neck.
" — you didn't tell me you were returning? "
#[ ch. ] 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐐𝐔𝐄𝐍 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐄 — seyka.#[ ship. ] 𝐇𝐎𝐌𝐄 𝐈𝐒𝐍'𝐓 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐘 𝐀 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄 𝐀𝐓 𝐀𝐋𝐋 — seyka & aloy.#warmaiidens#i personally think they should make an adventure back to the forbidden west to visit aloy's cool place lmao#the Aesthetic

Finally got back into Forbidden West to finish it and play the DLC, and I have thoughts:
Ted Faro's scene was supposed to be horrific, was instead just very funny. Sorry. You can't make a man into a Resident Evil Creature and just keep him offscreen. You especially can't have a guy walk into the room with him, then turn on his heel and leave like "oh. oh yuck. oh that is so gross. Oh you have to burn that so the player doesn't see it, I beg of you." Silly.
I love Tilda! I love her a lot. I love that she's weird and offputting and looks at Aloy but doesn't see Aloy at all. I love that she wanted to put Aloy on display in her art room for eternity so she could see Elizabet whenever she pleased. I also think she is very funny for dragging an immaculate table setting out to her blasted, ruined house, and for serving croissants that were obviously never going to be eaten.
Whenever Aloy talks about Elizabet like she was a superhero I just like to imagine what Elizabet would think if she saw Aloy fighting a robot T-Rex with a bow, a spear, and a slingshot.
Aloy and Sekya are really cute together, and I hope the fact that you can reject her doesn't mean the romance is entirely ignored in 3. By far my favourite part of the DLC was when Sekya left in a huff, and Aloy's just saying to herself "Oh no she's upset... ahh I'm upset too, because she's upset!! What's that about!?" Cutie.
