there's only one bed...

kafka -`✮´-

the inn had only one room left, and, of course, only one bed. you stared at it, then at Kafka, who leaned against the doorframe with a lazy smile, clearly enjoying your dilemma

"you look so troubled. don’t tell me you’re shy?"

you scoff at her words, but turn away before she can see the way your pulse quickened

"sharing a bed with me… it must be a dream come true, hm?"

you blush a deep shade of red and try to sputter out a response but fail to form a coherent sentence. you decide to busy yourself with removing your coat, hoping to mask your embarrassment

"i'll take the left side," she announced, slipping into bed with an almost unfair grace. her gaze flickered to you, expectant. "come now, don’t make me drag you onto the bed"

you hesitate at first, but resign yourself once you realize there is no way around this. you slide under the covers, stiff as a board. after settling down, the room became too quiet, the silence only being broken by the occasional rustling of sheets. a faint scent of jasmine also hovered in the air-kafka's perfume

"you’re so tense," she murmured, her voice softer now. you hear her shift in the bed, and suddenly the scent of jasmine was much stronger. your breath catches in your throat as you feel her fingers, oddly warm to the touch, brushing lightly over your wrist before settling there.

"kafka…?"

"shhh..."

your heart pounded, but you said nothing. she chuckled, satisfied, and didn’t pull away

neither did you.

robin -`✮´-

robin stands beside you, her hands clasped in front of her chest, eyes wide with unmistakable embarrassment. “oh… i-i suppose we’ll have to share,” she murmured, voice barely above a whisper

you watched as a soft pink flush crept up her neck, deepening when she risked a glance in your direction

“i can sleep on the floor,” you offered quickly, but robin shook her head, flustered

“oh, no! i couldn’t possibly let you do that. it—it wouldn’t be right…” Her fingers fidgeted with the hem of her sleeves, her gaze darting around she struggled to find the proper words

“we’re both adults. it’s just sleeping, right?”

you weren’t sure if she was trying to convince you or herself

with a shy nod, she turned her back to you, she slowly slipped under the covers as far to the left of the bed as she could, her shoulders stiff. you hesitated before following, keeping to your side as best as possible. silence then stretched between you, thick with unspoken thoughts. robin shifted slightly, exhaling a breath she’d been holding

“is… is this okay?” she whispered timidly. you glanced over. in the dim glow of the lantern, her dark lashes fluttered as she tried—failed—to meet your eyes

“yeah,” you murmured. “it’s okay"

another pause, then, softer, “i-i’ve never… done this before”

“neither have i,” you admitted

robin finally looked at you, a hint of relief in her expression before she quickly turned away again, pressing a hand to her cheek. “oh, i feel so silly…” she mumbled, clearly mortified by her own reactions

as you lay there, listening to the soft, steady rhythm of her breathing, you couldn’t help but think—she was impossibly, undeniably adorable.

sparkle -`✮´-

the moment sparkle realized there was only one bed, her lips curled into a slow, wicked grin

"oh, how scandalous," she purred, "tell me, dear, will this be a night of whispered confessions? of forbidden longing?"

you sighed, already exhausted. "it'll be a night of sleeping, sparkle"

she gasped, pressing a gloved hand to her chest in mock offense. "how terribly boring. you wound me." but then, her sharp eyes flickered with something deeper. "unless, of course, you truly do find my company that boring"

you knew better than to take her bait. instead, you turned away and started to organize your belongings on the nearby nightstand, hoping to distract sparkle from the heat creeping up your neck

"w-we should sleep" say as confidently as possible

sparkle let out a dramatic sigh but made no move to argue. instead, she strolled toward the bed, undoing the clasps on her various accessories

then, just as you were about to climb in beside her, she suddenly turned, eyes alight with amusement. "oh? how bold of you to join me so easily. and here i thought you’d insist on taking the floor"

"you’d never let me live it down if i did" you shot back

sparkle chuckled, shifting onto her side to watch you. "you know me well, darling" that caught you off guard. her teasing was expected, but the quiet warmth in her voice was not

"well then, try not to get too flustered, hmm? sharing a bed with a lady like me is a most dangerous game"

silence settled between you, the playful tension lingering in the air. just when you thought she might actually fall asleep, sparkle let out an exaggerated sigh

"this is terribly dull," she muttered. "no dramatic declarations? no stolen glances under the moonlight?"

"you could just go to sleep like a normal person," you said dryly

she scoffs, but then her voice drops to a near whisper. "but tell me, darling… if i were to steal a kiss in the dead of night, would you stop me?"

your breath caught, and sparkle drank in your reaction with barely concealed delight. but before you could formulate a response, she simply giggled, turning onto her side with her back to you

"sweet dreams," she murmured, amusement still laced in her tone

you sighed, shaking your head. typical.

and yet, as sleep slowly claimed you, you couldn't quite shake the feeling that, despite all her games, she had been waiting for an answer.

"what? no way, check again."

you both stood there for a second, waiting for a second bed to magically appear. it didn’t.

"tch." she ran a hand through her hair, clearly flustered. "well… guess that means one of us is sleeping on the floor."

you sighed. "and by 'one of us,' you mean me, right?"

she crossed her arms. "i mean, obviously"

you dragged a hand down your face. "seele, come on—there’s enough space for us both"

she made a face, cheeks tinged pink. "are you serious? sharing a bed? with you???"

"i promise i don’t bite." you gave her a tired look. "i just want to sleep"

she groaned, rubbing her temples before finally muttering, "f-fine. but if you take up too much space, i’m kicking you off"

you raised your hands in surrender. "noted"

later, after an awkward few minutes of both of you laying as close to the edges as possible, seele huffed in frustration, "this is the worst"

you stifled a laugh. "you’re so dramatic"

she clicked her tongue. "just shut up and go to sleep already"

silence settled in, the room dimly lit by the moonlight filtering through the curtains. just as you were starting to drift off to sleep, you felt movement beside you

then, ever so slightly, seele shifted closer

it was subtle at first—a small shuffle, her body angled just the slightest bit toward you. but then, in one decisive movement, she scooted in

"...it's cold," she muttered, voice barely above a whisper

a small smile tugged at your lips. "right. cold."

"shut up," she grumbled, but she didn’t move back. if anything, she got even closer

you chuckled softly but said nothing more. as the night went on, the distance between you gradually disappeared until none remained.
