The most interesting, and most amazing detail within Mina's letter is how different she presents her future marriage with Jonathan, on top of having very different priorities regarding work.

Mina is very happy to marry Jonathan along with already planning what changes are going to be put in place once both say yes at the altar, and in her enthusiastic letter to Lucy she details all of her current priorities before that important moment. However, as many as you may noticed, those priorities don't really... Fall in line with what is supposed to be expected from the time.

There is not a single metion of children, housework skills, or any comment about the transition from employment to wife duties from Mina. Instead, we read of she is proudly cultivating skills like stenography, typewriting, journalism, and shorthand so she and Jonathan can share the workload that comes from a solicitor position.

I don't mean one of those two-pages-to-the-week-with-Sunday-squeezed-in-a-corner diaries, but a sort of journal which I can write in whenever I feel inclined.

The time frame of this book lands in the 19th century, when women couldn't be both married and have a job at the same time, but Mina doesn't mourn that. She prepares for a future in which her, and Jonathan are in a partnership of equal standing where both will help eachother in a job that Jonathan has been preparing for god knows how long.

It's not an "if they can", it's a "when", and I find that very beautiful.

You can't say how or why it's happening but you shiver against your boss's side in his ritzy little town car as his fingers pull at your thigh and spread your folds apart. Your underwear has long since disappeared, and despite how hard he'd been trying to get in your pants since you took this shitty job, he's ignoring the way your fingers twist in the lapel of his suit in favor of reading over reports.

"Mr. Price," You whine, only to be treated to the blunt press of his fingers against your hole. The slow sink of the thick digits into you makes your eyes roll, your lashes fluttering at the lengthy intrusion. His fingers hook and tug at your walls, his thumb digging into the meat of your thigh, and his pinky teasing the tight pinch of your ass.

He sets the reports on his knee and takes his cigar from between your lips, turning his head to look down at you. You open your mouth, hold your tongue out for him, and he blows his smoke into your waiting maw.

"Makin' me work for my meal, and now you won't let me take my time with it," He huffs, turning back to his report, his cigar held tight between his teeth, "should've fired you when I had the chance."

i really hate reading them 99% of the time because they're so hard to do well. and because everyone else usually focuses on the things i find least interesting about it.

but it's sooooo fun to imagine what your favorite characters would do as feudal lords. it's a fascinating question: what would this character do with unlimited executive and probably military power over an area of land and its people? people who depended on them? would they be a good ruler? a bad one? would they take it seriously? do their inherent qualities make them better suited to that role than the modern era? or are they truly a product of the time and place they come from?

because I'm me, this thought exercise is a chance to daydream about "what if I held a gun to this character's head and forced them to get involved in politics?", really.

on one end of the scale you have anakin skywalker, who would....not....have done well as emperor, or frankly as any kind of feudal lord. maybe don't give him more power over life and death, or taxes, or food supplies. maybe don't.

on the other end of the scale, you have jed bartlet, who i truly believe would have been more comfortable with unilateral authority and a divine mandate. somebody make that man a king. let his staff profess their undying devotion to him on their knees, the way they so desperately, secretly wish they could in canon. i feel like it would Fix Them. Leo McGarry wants soooooo badly to swear his sword to Jed. you know it in your heart to be true.

To me, Machete kind of has the energy of a secondary villain/coldhearted side character in someone else's story that a lot of fans latch onto, moreso than the protagonist. Question is, would he be the villain in anyone's story?

Why, thank you! I'm actually glad to hear he gives off that vibe. I don't think he set out to become a villain but a lot of people certainly view him as one.

ok so the very pretty, new secretary who honestly is not sure why he was hired on the spot by the boss cuz truly he sucks at administrative work. he's decided that he'll just try his best and do everything his new boss tells him so he can stay on her good side and keep his job even though he doesnt understand Excel and is shit at typing. of course he says yes when the boss invites him to drinks after work 🙂‍↕️ of course he says yes when she suggests their next round should be shots instead of cocktails 🙂‍↕️ and of course he says yes when she suggests they both might as well go to her place, its friday and it's late and he lives so much further away. later, somewhere between his 2nd and 3rd orgasm, it occurs to him why he was hired on the spot......office pet origin story 🙂‍↕️

Headcanon. The reason why Iceburg's new assistant was that 10yo girl was because he needed a secretary that could actually put him in his place every other person who applied would be willing to let him do anything and he can’t have that.
