I donât like posting too much, since it makes me feel icky BUT. Before I forget this- Itâs very important.
Still Wakes The Deep was nominated for the Golden Joystick Awards! TCR posted something on the Community page on Reddit (also on Steam) regarding this:

You can place two votes for the game in âBest Audio Designâ and âBest Supporting Performerâ, to vote, simply go to this link and click on the start voting button.
You donât even have to use your E-Mail address to submit your votes. So it should make it very easy for people, incase one doesnât feel like sharing that. Iâm hoping for the best that TCR/Secret Mode get one of these awards, or both. It would be awesome either way. Since this game means a lot for the community and I think we can all agree that it deserves an award.

Now Fellas, please spread the word as best as you can! Weâll need every vote we can get. No one posted something about it on Tumblr (or maybe Im extremely blind, who knows), so I figured Iâd make a post to inform anyone else who missed this.

Since Muir can pick up any monster, has he picked up Rennick and just swing him around? I donât think heâd have the heart to chuck Rennick at someone knowing how old he is.
I have answered a question like this before and yes he would But he also would definitely chuck him because Muir is the fucker who said 'Try no' tae punch 'im' in regards to Rennick, MEANING he was either wanted to deck Rennick himself or he has decked him before which in turn means Muir has no qualms throwing this asshole boss across the room. Look even if Rennick is alright with the crew, Muir still wants to punch him.
#TCR#Secret Mode#please let Muir punch Rennick#he deserves it#he's big enough to#still wakes the deep#swtd

Loddlenaut: a cozy clean up that leaves the bigger questions behind
by Amr (@siegarettes)
Loddlenaut
Developers - Moon Lagoon
Publisher - Secret Mode
PC,
With a chill, and I daresay--cozy--atmosphere, Loddlenaut offers exactly the kind of laid back routine thatâs easy to dip into for small moments of satisfaction. Taking the role of an ocean sanitation worker, thereâs an immediate satisfaction to clearing the junk and gunk in the area, which builds towards the long term goal of creating a clear, inhabitable biome. Loddles, the native lifeform of the planet, provide a light pet raising element, not unlike Sonic Adventureâs Chao Gardens.
Alongside the cute, slightly aliased aesthetic, and some light survival game elements, Loddlenaut kept me plenty engaged and doesnât overstay its welcome, with plenty smaller goals for those looking for more. Yet it's those same cozy elements, and the vague gestures toward an environmental message that Loddlenaut struggles to square away.Â
Loddlenaut follows a familiar structure, starting you out with limited capabilities, clearing areas to reveal the next, and in the process gaining access to new materials and faster, more efficient abilities. Intentional or not, this turns the world into a âfrontierâ, where wildlife and environmental resources become stepping stones to greater control over the space.
Loddlenaut attempts to sidestep these issues by focusing on restoring an environment that was already previously inhabited, cleaning up the mess left by a careless corporation that exploited the planetâs resources. Materials are simply reclaimed from debris left behind, and itâs restoring the habitats of the plant and animal life that provides resources, not harvesting them. But itâs difficult to throw off the underlying motivations that drive its progression.Â
Systems like fast travel emphasize this struggle, only allowing you to quickly travel between areas after youâve cleared them, and consequently, reclaimed all their materials. The framing is slightly different, but functionally it feels no different to clearing all the objectives in an open world game. The feeling is exasperated in the late game, where the amount of trash increases, and the limited inventory pushes against your ability to make steady progress. The goal quickly became gathering materials to ease the tedium, and more than a few times I considered jettisoning trash back into the area instead of lugging it back to base, so I could clear more of an area before making a return trip. (Dropped trash doesnât count against an areaâs completion). I ultimately didnât, but looking at the forums it seems that I wasnât the only one with that idea.Â
The story gestures towards larger environmental concerns, but never resolves. Your operator makes repeated comments about the massive damage done by the corporation thatâs hired you for cleanup, but reassures you that itâs not your job to question your actions, only clean up after them. The delivery had me almost sure that thereâd be a turn somewhere near the end, but Loddlenaut concludes with a simple ânature is healingâ, creating an unintentional downer ending as I left knowing the underlying problem creating the pollution hadnât been dealt with.
The teamâs intentions seem more to imply that the work is not yet done, to avoid a simple easy solution, and inspire further action, but it leaves so many underlying assumptions unchallenged in an attempt for a feel good ending. I walked away feeling less like my character had made a meaningful contribution, but instead was doomed to be a janitor for the messes of a corporation who would continue to move to new worlds and leave the same problems behind.Â
I ended up returning to Loddlenaut after the ending, wanting to clear up the areas that had become polluted again in my absence, and to check up and name the Loddles that I hadnât had time for as I barrelled through the last areas. The little creatures remained cute as ever, but I couldnât help notice the eerie stillness of the planet. Without the pollution cluttering up the landscape, it had the vibe of an aquarium. An isolated space to raise pets, with sunken structures to add visual variety.Â
The thing is, as an aquarium, itâs easy to find joy in. At the end of the day I do love to feed and raise my pets, and clean the gunk out of their tank. Loddlenaut is just that, a playground for your pets that I enjoyed, that gestures at the bigger questions without any answers for them.

Empyreal is an upcoming single-player sci-fi third-person action RPG with hand-crafted dungeons that have randomly generated loot and enemies. The game looks pretty cool and you can try the demo right now.

Still Wakes the Deep (Xbox Series)
Iâm a huge fan of The Chinese Roomâs earlier output, especially the melancholy, beautiful horror of Everyoneâs Gone to the Rapture, and I love sci-fi body horror, but this one didnât quite land for me.
Yes, you have the developerâs typical excellent writing and conception, slowly revealing a fleshy nightmare laced with otherworldly beauty in a setting that is authentically 1970s Britain. Itâs also visually and acoustically arresting and more tactile and physical than AAA games of ten times its budget. Yet its strict linearity, mechanically routine platform adventuring and somewhat token Alien Isolation evasion sequences just arenât as engaging as meandering through an empty space and reaching a dawning, horrified understanding of what happened to its occupants.
Itâs four hours or so of memorable and masterful sci-fi horror, sure, but the moments of Still Wakes the Deep which have stuck with me are the few where I was left to stand there in the storm, or just the other side of an inch of life-preserving steel, and absorb where I was, and what was happening. Walking simulators are still somewhat gauche apparently but Iâd take more of that over picking my way across all those ladders.
