Vegetarianism, Veganism, and the Path of the Masters - Spiritual Awakening Radio Podcast
Traditionally, Sant Mat and the yoga philosophy have advocated the lacto-vegetarian diet: abstinence from meat, fish, fowl, and eggs, but allowed dairy. Vegan means complete abstinence from all animal products and strictly adhering to a plant-based diet: no dairy, eggs, or meat of any kind, or products made from animals. Based on the current cruel practices of the dairy industry in India and around the world that violate the principle of ahimsa or non-violence, plus all the scores of medical studies showing that dairy consumption adversely affects our health and well-being, I believe if they were here today, the classic Saints such as Mahavira, Guru Kabir, Guru Nanak, Tukarama, Ravidas, Tulsi Das, Namdev, Dariya Sahib, etc... would not only be advocating a vegetarian diet, but a vegan diet. These days, many are making this transition to vegan, including a growing percentage of those following Sant Mat. This is the compassionate direction that the vegetarian movement is headed in. Vegetarianism is going vegan!
In the East as well as in the West, the Gnostics and other advanced mystics: those serious practitioners of soul travel, inner Light and Sound meditation, have universally adhered to a plant-based diet. It’s hard to reach more subtle states of tranquility in meditation on an animal flesh diet based on the suffering of other beings. "A man of spiritual intensity does not eat corpses." (George Bernard Shaw)
Today a satsang edition of Spiritual Awakening Radio about the spiritual and ethical reasons for going veg, or better still: vegan. There are readings from Pythagoras, Kabir, Swami Sant Sevi Ji Maharaj, Darshan Singh, Kirpal Singh, Sawan Singh, Diet and Spirituality, by Dona Kelley (from Lotus Leaves), and... a document called, "My Visit to a Dairy Farm -- The Reality of Dairy Cruelty -- the Final Destination of Dairy Cows is the Slaughterhouse", published by Pravin K. Shah of the Jaina Education Committee of Jainism (the Vegan Jain movement.)

i am that, nisargardatta maharaj, ch. 96.
Questioner: I am an American by birth and for the last one year I was staying in an Ashram in Madhya Pradesh, studying Yoga in its many aspects. We had a teacher, whose Guru, a disciple of the great Sivananda Saraswati, stays in Monghyr. I stayed at Ramanashram also. While in Bombay I went through an intensive course of Burmese meditation managed by one Goenka. Yet I have not found peace. There is an improvement in self-control and day-to-day discipline, but that is all. I cannot say exactly what caused what. I visited many holy places. How each acted on me, I cannot say.
Maharaj: Good results will come, sooner or later. At Sri Ramanashram did you get some instructions?
Q: Yes, some English people were teaching me and also an Indian follower of jnana yoga, residing there permanently, was giving me lessons.
M: What are your plans?
Q: I have to return to the States because of visa difficulties. I intend to complete my B.Sc., study Nature Cure and make it my profession.
M: A good profession, no doubt.
Q: Is there any danger in pursuing the path of Yoga at all cost?
M: Is a match-stick dangerous when the house is on fire? The search for reality is the most dangerous of all undertakings for it will destroy the world in which you live. But if your motive is love of truth and life, you need not be afraid.
Q: I am afraid of my own mind. It is so unsteady!
M: In the mirror of your mind images appear and disappear. The mirror remains. Learn to distinguish the immovable in the movable, the unchanging in the changing, till you realise that all differences are in appearance only and oneness is a fact. This basic identity -- you may call God, or Brahman, or the matrix (Prakriti), the words matters little -- is only the realisation that all is one. Once you can say with confidence born from direct experience: 'I am the world, the world is myself', you are free from desire and fear on one hand and become totally responsible for the world on the other. The senseless sorrow of mankind becomes your sole concern.
Q: So even a jnani has his problems!
M: Yes, but they are no longer of his own creation. His suffering is not poisoned by a sense of guilt. There is nothing wrong with suffering for the sins of others. Your Christianity is based on this.
Q: Is not all suffering self-created?
M: Yes, as long as there is a separate self to create it. In the end you know that there is no sin, no guilt, no retribution, only life in its endless transformations. With the dissolution of the personal 'I' personal suffering disappears. What remains is the great sadness of compassion, the horror of the unnecessary pain.
Q: Is there anything unnecessary in the scheme of things?
M: Nothing is necessary, nothing is inevitable. Habit and passion blind and mislead. Compassionate awareness heals and redeems. There is nothing we can do, we can only let things happen according to their nature.
Q: Do you advocate complete passivity?
M: Clarity and charity is action. Love is not lazy and clarity directs. You need not worry about action, look after your mind and heart. Stupidity and selfishness are the only evil.
Q: What is better -- repetition of God's name, or meditation?
M: Repetition will stabilise your breath. With deep and quiet breathing vitality will improve, which will influence the brain and help the mind to grow pure and stable and fit for meditation. Without vitality little can be done, hence the importance of its protection and increase. Posture and breathing are a part of Yoga, for the body must be healthy and well under control, but too much concentration on the body defeats its own purpose, for it is the mind that is primary in the beginning. When the mind has been put to rest and disturbs no longer the inner space (chidakash), the body acquires a new meaning and its transformation becomes both necessary and possible.
Q: I have been wandering all over India, meeting many Gurus and learning in driblets several Yogas. Is it all right to have a taste of everything?
M: No, this is but an introduction. You will meet a man who will help you find your own way.
Q: I feel that the Guru of my own choice can not be my real Guru. To be real he must come unexpected and be irresistible.
M: Not to anticipate is best. The way you respond is decisive.
Q: Am I the master of my responses?
M: Discrimination and dispassion practised now will yield their fruits at the proper time. If the roots are healthy and well-watered, the fruits are sure to be sweet. Be pure, be alert, keep ready.
Q: Are austerities and penances of any use?
M: To meet all the vicissitudes of life is penance enough! You need not invent trouble. To meet cheerfully whatever life brings is all the austerity you need.
Q: What about sacrifice?
M: Share willingly and gladly all you have with whoever needs -- don't invent self-inflicted cruelties.
Q: What is self-surrender?
M: Accept what comes.
Q: I feel I am too weak to stand on my own legs. I need the holy company of a Guru and of good people. Equanimity is beyond me. To accept what comes as it comes, frightens me. I think of my returning to the States with horror.
M: Go back and make the best use of your opportunities. Get your B.Sc. degree first. You can always return to India for your Nature Cure studies.
Q: I am quite aware of the opportunities in the States. It is the loneliness that frightens me.
M: You have always the company of your own self -- you need not feel alone. Estranged from it even in India you will feel lonely. All happiness comes from pleasing the self. Please it, after return to the States, do nothing that may be unworthy of the glorious reality within your heart and you shall be happy and remain happy. But you must seek the self and, having found it, stay with it.
Q: Will compete solitude be of any benefit?
M: It depends on your temperament. You may work with others and for others, alert and friendly, and grow more fully than in solitude, which may make you dull or leave you at the mercy of your mind's endless chatter. Do not imagine that you can change through effort. Violence, even turned against yourself, as in austerities and penance, will remain fruitless.
Q: Is there no way of making out who is realised and who is not?
M: Your only proof is in yourself. If you find that you turn to gold, it will be a sign that you have touched the philosopher's stone. Stay with the person and watch what happens to you. Don't ask others. Their man may not be your Guru. A Guru may be universal in his essence, but not in his expressions. He may appear to be angry or greedy or over-anxious about his Ashram or his family, and you may be misled by appearances, while others are not.
Q: Have I not the right to expect all-round perfection, both inner and outer?
M: Inner --- yes. But outer perfection depends on circumstances, on the state of the body, personal and social, and other innumerable factors.
Q: I was told to find a jnani so that I may learn from him the art of achieving jnana and now I am told that the entire approach is false, that I cannot make out a jnani, nor can jnana be conquered by appropriate means. It is all so confusing!
M: It is all due to your complete misunderstanding of reality. Your mind is steeped in the habits of evaluation and acquisition and will not admit that the incomparable and unobtainable are waiting timelessly within your own heart for recognition. All you have to do is to abandon all memories and expectations. Just keep yourself ready in utter nakedness and nothingness.
Q: Who is to do the abandoning?
M: God will do it. Just see the need of being abandoned. Don't resist, don't hold on to the person you take yourself to be. Because you imagine yourself to be a person you take the jnani to be a person too, only somewhat different, better informed and more powerful. You may say that he is eternally conscious and happy, but it is far from expressing the whole truth. Don't trust definitions and descriptions -- they are grossly misleading.
Q: Unless I am told what to do and how to do it, I feel lost.
M: By all means do feel lost! As long as you feel competent and confident, reality is beyond your reach. Unless you accept inner adventure as a way of life, discovery will not come to you.
Q: Discovery of what?
M: Of the centre of your being, which is free of all directions, all means and ends.
Q: Be all, know all, have all?
M: Be nothing, know nothing, have nothing. This is the only life worth living, the only happiness worth having.
Q: I may admit that the goal is beyond my comprehension. Let me know the way at least.
M: You must find your own way. Unless you find it yourself it will not be your own way and will take you nowhere. Earnestly live your truth as you have found it -- act on the little you have understood. It is earnestness that will take you through, not cleverness -- your own or another's.
Q: I am afraid of mistakes. So many things I tried -- nothing came out of them.
M: You gave too little of yourself, you were merely curious, not earnest.
Q: I don't know any better.
M: At least that much you know. Knowing them to be superficial, give no value to your experiences, forget them as soon as they are over. Live a clean, selfless life, that is all.
Q: Is morality so important?
M: Don't cheat, don't hurt -- is it not important? Above all you need inner peace -- which demands harmony between the inner and the outer. Do what you believe in and believe in what you do. All else is a waste of energy and time.

There’s a good chance you’ve seen a photo like this before: a man with a shaved head and a black jacket faces away from the camera. He’s got a swastika tattooed on the back of his head as a Nazi flag flutters in the background.
It’s the kind of default image we often have of when we think of the far-right — obvious, identifiable and recognisable. That’s why this exact photo has been the cover image for so many articles about the far-right around the world. No matter that the image itself is from a very specific context, when a handful of neo-Nazis protested outside a Holocaust memorial centre in Illinois, USA back in 2009.
But it’s seldom this straightforward to identify symbols the far-right uses, let alone identify members of far-right groups or advocates of such ideologies solely because of the symbols they use.
For every culture, symbols of any kind matter. They evoke emotions in us, from the positive to the negative and the simple to the complex. Of course, this certainly doesn’t just exist in the context of far-right extremism. Think of the kinds of symbols in your life that you react to and the national, cultural, or subcultural contexts you come from.
Maybe it’s a symbol you’re quite literally attached to, tattooed on your body. Maybe it’s a symbol that angers you to the point where you feel your identity is threatened. Maybe it’s somewhere in between. You feel a bond, some sense of community with those who view and react to these symbols in the same way. So symbols mean different things to different people, at different times and in different contexts. They’re not static, nor are they usually as simple to interpret as the swastika tattooed on the back of that neo-Nazi’s head. They have multiple levels of meaning, even contradictory ones. This is particularly the case for the far-right, who use symbols in deliberately coy and confusing ways that make it more difficult to pin down who they are and what they believe in. In her 2020 book, the US sociologist and expert on the far right Cynthia Miller-Idriss called this technique “game-playing” — coded messages laced with ambiguity, irony and humour with which the far-right not only “troll” their perceived opponents, but help “carry extremist ideas into the mainstream.”
Symbol, Context, Intention: Keys to Interpreting a Far-Right Symbol
So how should you go about interpreting, understanding and analysing a symbol which you think is or could be affiliated with the far-right?
There are three questions you should ask yourself, in any order you please. As you’ll see, these are questions that some of the simplest digital investigative tools and techniques — web searches and image searches — can help answer.
What symbol(s)?
Sometimes this question is relatively simple to answer. The far-right often uses obscure symbols or co-opted national symbols, such as the Patriote Flag in Quebec. They use symbols that have multiple meanings and symbols also used by non-extreme mainstream actors, such as the Eureka Flag in Australia. They even use symbols that are only meant to hint at the existence of other, more extreme symbols. It should be noted that while ultranationalist movements flourish across the world, such as in India, Israel, Japan and Turkey, the symbolism detailed in this article comes from white nationalist and far-right extremist contexts in Europe, the Americas and Oceania. Many of these symbols can be found on regularly updated databases maintained by organisations such as the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). This t-shirt is sold on a website from a small European country.
The text reads “me ne frego” — an Italian phrase roughly translating as “I don’t care”. A quick search online will reveal that it was used as a motto by Benito Mussolini’s Fascist Party.
Here’s another example, a smaller screenshot of a t-shirt sold by another European far-right website.
A lot of clothing in the world bears military-style design. That alone is not evidence of far-right ideology. But note the distinctive shape of the shield. This specific shape, with a notch on the upper right-hand corner, was used by Nazi Germany’s Waffen SS Panzer divisions (other divisions’ patches had notches on the left-hand side, while some had none at all).
In addition, the brand’s logo could be interpreted as reading “HH” — a common far-right shorthand for “Heil Hitler.” For example, according to a report on extremist dress codes by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, a German foundation, the Norwegian fashion brand Helly Hansen has been worn by far-right extremists who import the same meaning to its acronym ‘HH’.
A screenshot of a Google Image Search of the above photo, showing several hits for a Waffen SS panzer division
Lastly, here’s another example of a t-shirt sold by a European far-right website.
There are several symbols we can analyse here — text reading “the colours of tradition” followed by the brand’s name. Those smaller coloured symbols resemble a Celtic cross, a symbol commonly used by the far-right. Here they also contain the brand’s initials.
The words “colours of tradition” suggest that the use of black, white and red is significant. These are the colours not only of the old Imperial German flag but also of the flag of Nazi Germany — colours that were important enough to Adolf Hitler himself to note in Mein Kampf why the Nazis should use them.
Neo-Nazis in Germany, Austria and beyond have long used these colours as allusions to these flags in order to circumvent prohibitions on swastikas and other more overt Nazi imagery.
Who, When, Where? Understanding Context
It’s a cliche to say something like ‘context is everything,’ but it really is true when you’re trying to understand far-right symbolism.
The contextual spoiler for my three image examples above: they are from known far-right fashion brands. A quick reverse image search of all three photos will land you on the pages of these brands. (To that end, use a browser extension, like Search By Image or RevEye, to allow you to easily and quickly look for images across different search engines).
On the websites of these brands, you’ll see example after example of far-right symbolism, some more extreme and some more subtle. Researching their names reveals that these brands are well-known across European far-right extremist scenes.
Every symbol you see, far-right or not, exists in a context. Always ask yourself: Where is the symbol you’re seeing? Is it on a social media page or account? If so, what other symbols does that page or account share? Are you seeing a symbol in a physical place, like a sticker or a piece of graffiti? If so, what other symbols are around it? Who has communicated the symbol? Is it a specific group or individual? What else can you discover about them and their associations? If it’s a piece of media, when was it photographed or filmed? Was it around the same time the image was posted? To what extent can you chronolocate the image — that is, narrow the time down to a year, season, day or even time of day if necessary? These questions can often be answered using elementary online open source verification techniques.
Context is key. For example, far-right extremists, especially on social media, like to use common number codes as symbols. Among others, there’s 14, referencing the neo-Nazi ‘Fourteen Words,’ or 88 (‘Heil Hitler’, ‘H’ being the 8th letter of the alphabet), and more.
Screenshots of messages from a variety of international far-right extremist Telegram channels. Note the colours of the three hearts and the use of an otherwise innocuous ‘hand raising’ emoji, presumably alluding to a Nazi salute
But if you were to see someone with, for example, an Instagram username with a ‘14’ or ‘88’ and proclaim that on this basis alone the user is a far-right extremist, you could be making a serious mistake.
The same goes for imagery co-opted and frequently used by the far right, like neo-pagan or Norse symbolism. For example, maybe you see someone in a photo with a visible tattoo like a vegvísir (a ‘wayfinder’ or compass symbol that resembles a snowflake) wearing some sort of clothing or jewellery with a mjölnir (Thor’s hammer).
There’s no shortage of people affiliated with far-right extremist groups who adopt and wear these kinds of symbols. But there are plenty of people who have nothing to do with the far right who wear and display these kinds of symbols as well. Bikers, religious groups and heavy metal fans with no far-right sympathies have all used this symbolism. These symbols are often a necessary clue of far-right affiliations, but without further context they are seldom a sufficient one.
Why? Establishing Intent
Assessing intention can be the most challenging. It’s crucial to understand why a specific far-right symbol has been communicated at a specific time and place (virtual or physical) by a specific actor. This also means there’s a chance that someone displaying a far-right symbol — or what you think is a far-right symbol — isn’t doing so deliberately or doesn’t even know that people might interpret a particular symbol that way.
First ask: who are the target audience(s)? Members of the general public? Existing members of the group or adherents of the ideology? Potential new recruits? Perceived adversaries or enemies (e.g., journalists)? Not every symbol flashed by a far-right group is intended to be seen by the same audience or interpreted the same way by different audiences.
Interpreting and analysing the far-right’s use of symbols can be a challenge because of a seeming lack of consistent messaging. Austrian linguist Ruth Wodak, who has written extensively about communication strategies used by the far-right, uses the term “calculated ambivalence,” which she describes as “the strategy of addressing multiple and contradictory audiences via a single, cleverly layered message.”
As Bellingcat wrote in 2020, even Hawaiian shirts have become an example of this calculated ambivalence in action. They’ve been worn by some US extremists to flaunt their readiness for a forthcoming civil war, building off a number of subcultural references and memes. An even more innocuous example is the US and international far-right’s use of the ‘OK sign’ hand gesture.
A screenshot of a t-shirt sold by the German far-right fashion brand discussed earlier
In 2017, far-right extremists on the website 4chan started a hoax claiming that the ‘OK’ hand gesture, an everyday gesture in the US and English-speaking world, was actually a hate symbol. They did so in order to provoke an overreaction from the media and opponents of the far right. Far-right extremists began using the symbol, posting photos of themselves making the gesture in order to troll and “trigger” their perceived opponents. The hope was to make them look ridiculous and mockable for claiming something so common was a far-right extremist symbol.
The far right’s use of the hand gesture has certainly remained an act of trolling — as antiextremism watchdog the Southern Poverty Law Centre (SPLC) writes, it’s a symbol which is “so widely used that virtually anyone has plausible deniability built into their use of it in the first place”. But it was deadly serious when the Christchurch terrorist, after his arrest in 2019 for murdering 51 people at two mosques in New Zealand, flashed the symbol in court before the cameras.
To paraphrase Wodak, there’s a double message at play here: one can either view a far-right extremist’s use of the ‘OK’ hand gesture as just a coincidence — i.e., a mainstream, non-extreme use of the gesture — or they can share the far-right extremist meanings implied by those making the gesture.
The far right, whatever kind of symbol they’re flaunting, is interested in playing games like this.
They’re more than happy to exploit the ambiguous, multivocal and often contradictory nature of symbols, especially in this digital age where we’re all bombarded by them every day. There are certainly some who are still as brazen as that neo-Nazi with the swastika tattoo, but today’s far-right extremists are far less conspicuous and much more creative in the ways they communicate the same old hateful views.

@greyhoundai op of that post has me blocked lol so here:
it’s as simple as googling “Naxal civilian deaths” and then knowing bare minimum stuff about the way the Indian government works. Indians are afforded the fundamental right to information (RTI), which allows us to file inquiries to access government records. records on naxal death tolls are kept by the ministry of home affairs. simple google search leads you to articles about civilian deaths at the hands of Naxals which often state the name of the RTI activist who filed the request.
Here is just one pdf of a an RTI filing and the government’s response. You can find any of these by googling [person filling the report’s name] [inquiry] “mha” Other such enquirers also looked at demographics, and most civilians killed are usually people from scheduled tribes who are painted as “police informants”.
“I don’t believe the ministry of home affairs because it’s propaganda!” I don’t fucking know what to tell you like no other body is going to have access to this information at this scale. Yes, Naxals are used to gain political power, but the main reason that they are a talking point is because people in the red corridor fear for their lives and want safety.
People can imply all they want that I’m just a poor third worlder who hasn’t been deprogrammed :(( because I’m apparently “taking propaganda at face value” or whatever to which I say my opinion on Naxalism comes from personal experience alongside all the very obvious violations they commit. I’ve had family live in the red corridor and have their lives and livelihood threatened.
Naxals are also known for using the threat of violence to coerce civilians into joining their cause. Their actions cause direct harm to northeast India.
And it’s honestly really fucking western to assume that Indian bodies work the same as western ones. You cannot draw a one to one comparison from the Indian military to the American one, or the government, or just the way a system ought to run. We are a very young country ravaged by a lot of very complex geopolitical issues that I do not think westerners should feel comfortable weighing in on so confidently. I don’t think they understand partition, british raj, emergency, opening the markets, bangladesh, kashmir, naxalites, or any of the other very intense context required to have even some sort of coherent opinion on Indian politics. Sure, advocate for what you believe in, and support people when they stand up to our fascist government, but do not for a second think that you can make sweeping statements about the way the country works.
And if you really do want to be reblogging stuff like this, at least try to learn some of the structure of the countries you’re talking about. It’s not that hard to formulate a google search to find what you asked for. I appreciate your want to learn, but this just leaves such a sour taste in my mouth.

Why Content Marketing Strategies are a Game-Changer for Indian Brands
In the evolving world of digital marketing, content marketing has become a powerful tool for businesses worldwide—and Indian brands are no exception. As the Indian market becomes increasingly digital, with more consumers turning to the internet for information, shopping, and entertainment, content marketing is proving to be a game-changer. This blog explores why Indian brands should embrace content marketing strategies and how doing so can lead to sustainable growth, stronger brand identity, and deeper customer engagement.
1. Increased Online Presence in a Growing Digital Market
India has one of the fastest-growing internet populations, with over 700 million internet users as of recent data. This number is set to grow, presenting Indian brands with an enormous opportunity to reach a vast audience. Content marketing helps brands establish an online presence by creating engaging, informative, and relevant content that resonates with consumers. By consistently sharing valuable content on platforms like blogs, social media, and YouTube, brands can build trust with potential customers and ensure that they remain top-of-mind in an increasingly competitive market.
Why It Matters: A strong online presence ensures that a brand is easily accessible, relatable, and trusted. Indian consumers tend to research products before purchasing, and an engaging online presence can significantly influence their buying decisions.
2. Building Trust and Authenticity with Indian Consumers
Indian consumers are increasingly discerning and value authenticity. They appreciate brands that share valuable, transparent, and honest content. Content marketing allows brands to do just that by addressing consumer needs and preferences while reflecting the brand’s voice and values. Indian brands can connect with consumers on a personal level through storytelling, educational resources, and behind-the-scenes insights.
Why It Matters: By showcasing a brand’s unique story and mission, content marketing fosters trust and loyalty. Consumers who trust a brand are more likely to become repeat buyers and advocates, which is essential in the Indian market, where word-of-mouth still holds significant power.
3. Enhancing Brand Awareness and Visibility
Content marketing is a cost-effective way to improve brand visibility. Unlike traditional advertising, which can be expensive and short-lived, content remains accessible on the internet for as long as it’s relevant. By optimizing content for search engines (SEO), brands can ensure their content appears in search results for keywords related to their products or services, attracting organic traffic without a large advertising budget.
Why It Matters: For Indian startups and small businesses with limited marketing budgets, content marketing offers a long-lasting solution to increase brand visibility. When done effectively, a single piece of quality content can generate traffic and engagement for months or even years.
4. Supporting Local and Niche Markets
India is a diverse country with a wide range of regional languages, cultures, and consumer needs. Content marketing allows brands to tailor their strategies to specific regions or niche markets. Brands can create content in multiple languages or target particular demographics with content that addresses their unique interests and needs. This level of customization helps brands make deeper connections with their audiences.
Why It Matters: By appealing to specific consumer segments, brands can achieve more targeted engagement and build loyalty within various regional markets. This strategy is especially beneficial for brands aiming to scale in a country as diverse as India.
5. Driving More Conversions with Educative and Engaging Content
Content marketing doesn’t just inform and engage—it also has the power to drive conversions. By creating content that educates consumers about the benefits and applications of products or services, brands can guide them through the buyer’s journey. In a country where the traditional buying process has often involved thorough research and consultations, content that addresses common questions, comparisons, and product use-cases helps consumers make informed decisions.
Why It Matters: When brands provide valuable information, consumers are more likely to feel confident in their purchase decisions. This increased confidence leads to higher conversion rates and encourages consumer loyalty.
6. Improving Customer Retention with Consistent Communication
For many Indian brands, customer retention is as crucial as customer acquisition. Content marketing enables brands to stay in touch with their existing customers through consistent and relevant updates, such as newsletters, blog posts, and social media. When brands continuously provide valuable content, they remind their customers of their products and services, encouraging repeat business and long-term loyalty.
Why It Matters: Retaining customers is generally more cost-effective than acquiring new ones. Regularly engaging with customers through content ensures that the brand remains relevant and reinforces the customer relationship, which is essential for sustainable growth.
7. Tapping into the Power of Social Media
India has one of the world’s largest social media user bases, with platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and WhatsApp playing an integral role in everyday life. Content marketing naturally complements social media marketing by providing valuable material for these platforms. By sharing videos, blogs, and infographics on social media, brands can interact directly with consumers, build a community, and leverage the power of user-generated content.
Why It Matters: Social media is where millions of Indians discover new products and services. By effectively using content marketing, brands can not only reach a wider audience but also create a space for conversation, feedback, and engagement, which builds a stronger community around the brand.
8. Leveraging Influencer Partnerships
The rise of influencers in India has provided brands with new opportunities for content marketing. Partnering with influencers allows brands to reach new audiences in an authentic way, as influencers are trusted voices within their communities. By creating collaborative content, brands can tap into the influencer’s follower base while enhancing credibility and relatability.
Why It Matters: Indian consumers tend to trust recommendations from individuals they admire or relate to. Influencer partnerships, combined with a solid content marketing strategy, can make a brand’s message more impactful and memorable.
9. Cost-Effective Strategy for Businesses of All Sizes
Compared to traditional advertising, content marketing is relatively affordable and offers a high return on investment. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in India, which may not have the budget for large advertising campaigns, can still reach their target audiences effectively through content marketing. Even larger brands benefit from the sustained impact of content marketing, which continues to generate traffic and engagement over time.
Why It Matters: The affordability of content marketing makes it accessible to businesses of all sizes. For Indian brands, this translates to a scalable strategy that can grow as the brand grows, without the need for massive investments in advertising.
10. Adapting to Shifts in Consumer Behavior
With the increasing penetration of mobile devices and internet access, Indian consumers are becoming more digital-savvy and reliant on online research before making purchases. This shift towards digital-first consumer behavior means that brands must adapt their strategies to remain relevant. Content marketing allows brands to engage with consumers across their preferred platforms, providing the information and engagement they seek.
Why It Matters: As consumers increasingly turn to the internet for answers and recommendations, content marketing allows brands to be present where their consumers are. This adaptability makes content marketing an essential tool for navigating the digital future.

The Role Of A Social Media Marketing Agency In Brand Growth
In today's fast-paced digital landscape, brands must navigate an ever-evolving environment to achieve growth and success. The role of a social media marketing agency in India has become increasingly vital as businesses strive to establish their presence and connect with their target audience.
These agencies possess the expertise and tools to elevate brand visibility, enhance customer engagement, and drive growth.
Crafting Engaging Content That Resonates
At the core of any successful social media strategy is creating engaging content that resonates with the target audience. A professional social media marketing agency in India excels in developing tailored content that reflects a brand's identity while addressing the needs and preferences of its audience.
Through thorough market research and an understanding of consumer behaviour, these agencies can produce visually appealing and relevant posts that foster meaningful connections.
Engaging content captures attention and transforms passive viewers into active participants, leading to higher engagement rates and increased brand loyalty.
Leveraging Data Analytics for Informed Decisions
One significant advantage of partnering with a social media marketing agency in India is its capability to leverage data analytics. Unlike traditional marketing, social media platforms provide access to a wealth of insights that can inform marketing strategies.
These agencies meticulously track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as engagement rates, audience demographics, and conversion metrics. By analyzing this data, they can make informed decisions and adjust strategies in real-time, ensuring the brand remains relevant and top-of-mind for consumers.
This data-driven approach is essential for maximizing the effectiveness of marketing efforts and achieving desired outcomes.
Building a Community Around the Brand
In today’s social media landscape, brands must prioritize building communities rather than merely broadcasting messages. A social media marketing agency in India specializes in creating and nurturing relationships between brands and their audiences.
Through interactive content, including polls, Q&As, and user-generated content, these agencies facilitate conversations that foster a sense of belonging among followers.
When customers feel connected to a brand, they are more likely to become loyal advocates, enhancing the brand's credibility and visibility within their networks. This community-building approach is invaluable for long-term brand growth.
Staying Ahead of Emerging Trends
The digital marketing landscape is characterized by rapid changes and emerging trends. A proficient social media marketing agency stays ahead of these developments, ensuring that brands remain relevant and competitive.
These agencies can adapt marketing strategies to incorporate innovative practices by continuously monitoring industry trends and platform updates.
For instance, the rise of short-form video content has transformed social media engagement; an effective agency will not only recognize this shift but also integrate it into the overall marketing strategy.
Enhancing SEO and Brand Visibility
A strong social media presence can significantly impact search engine optimization (SEO) and brand visibility. A social media marketing agency understands the interconnectedness of social media and SEO. By promoting high-quality content across various social platforms, they can drive traffic to the brand’s website, ultimately improving its search engine ranking.
As potential customers search for relevant services, a well-established social media presence increases the likelihood of appearing in their search results. This enhanced visibility can lead to increased website traffic, more conversions, and sustainable brand growth.
Conclusion: A Strategic Partnership for Success
In conclusion, collaboration with a social media marketing agency in India can be a transformative step for brands seeking growth and enhanced visibility in today’s digital landscape. From creating compelling content and leveraging data analytics to fostering community engagement and boosting SEO, these agencies provide essential support in navigating the complexities of social media marketing.
For businesses looking to enhance their brand presence and achieve sustained growth, partnering with a professional agency is a strategic decision that can yield significant long-term benefits.

Beyond Word of Mouth: Why Company Website is Crucial for Your Business
Gone are those days when word of mouth was enough to lure customers to your business. While this method remains as social proof of your business conduct, you need to think beyond just peer recommendations and craft a website that speaks out for you in volumes. Every business that operates in today's competitive landscape should have a website to showcase. Do you want to know why your business needs a website? Read on:
It becomes your Digital Portfolio
A website does more than just exhibit you to the digital world. It gives a sneak peek into what you offer, your goals, your values, and a lot more. Talking about your skills is one thing, but getting in action and proving it right is where the impact lies. Your website helps narrate your story, the services you offer, how clients feel while working with you, and other similar things to create a personal connection with your audience.
Minimizes the Chances of Missed Opportunities
Satisfied customers who spread word of mouth are your secret brand ambassadors. However, not everyone goes by the referrals and takes prompt action. Thus, you need to have an online presence where your potential customers get to see you. What if your potential customer does not remember your name? They may find it difficult to track you down due to a lack of contact information, and you may just miss an opportunity to transform a potential client into a paying customer. A website can help in such a scenario and help your clients find you sooner or later.
Helps Build Trust and Credibility
Personal referrals can add on to the credibility boost but do not offer a complete solution. It is believed that about 81% of the audience who take the online route for shopping conduct research before spending their hard-earned money. Your website is your online storefront and your digital face, which your audience can trust. It is a common conception of the audience that legitimate businesses always have a website; thus, you must work according to their mindset. Without a website, you seem to be less trustworthy and may miss out on a valued customer. Therefore, prove your legitimacy by creating a website that offers a glimpse of your whereabouts and thrives on serving customers at its best while building trust and credibility.
Enhances Engagement and Functionality
A well-designed website also boosts customer engagement with your business. According to the Local Search Association, about 63% of the customers prefer browsing the company website to discover and utilize the services offered by the business. The more the engagement factor, the more is the exposure gained for your business. A website also boosts the functionality of a business, empowering you to incorporate tools such as booking platforms, shopping carts, etc., that are not available on social media. Also, a website is accessible 24x7 and thus can be accessed during both business and out-of-business hours.

A Critique of Ascender's Comment and My Own Comments Regarding This Wonderful Book of Kabir Panth Prayers, by James Bean
Reviewer: ascender - August 15, 2024
Subject: Need for a Living Master
"Sant Kabir was the Guru of His time. Only those to whom he personally gave initiation while in His human form can return to Sat Lok in His Name. The vast expanse of darkness of Mahasunya or Maha Sunn is said to be 80 billion miles, it cannot be crossed without a living Satguru to take the soul across to the purely spiritual realms above the region of Sunn. The worship of dead saints cannot liberate the Jiva. Only a living Master can do so. The search for God in the human form; Shabd incarnate, "The word made flesh and dwelling amongst us" is the greatest imperative for the devotee wishing to reach back to the Absolute Lord. However, the sacred bani of the sants, of Kabir Sahib and others, is a guide and inspiration to assist us in our understanding, and increase our longing for our True Home."
My critique of the review left by the person with the username Ascender made on August 15, 2024 at the Internet Archive titled, Need for a Living Master, as well as a brief exploration of the book being commented upon, Kabir Panth Book Of Prayers -- Sandhya Path -- The Path of Spiritual Realization. And this also serves now as a kind of Forward for this rare book in the Sant Dharam Das Kabir tradition of the Anurag Sagar.
Not as Ascender suggested, but as the contents of the book and the title of the book clearly state, this is NOT a collection of verses all attributed to Guru Kabir but actually represents a compilation of compositions made by many over the centuries in the Satsang Community of Kabir. These are used as prayers, psalms (hymns) and sayings of wisdom by those satsangi disciples part of the living sangat related to Kabir. Indeed, the modern-day lineage of Sant Satgurus of Sant Mat connects directly back to the Sant Dharam Das line of gurus of this Kabir community in fact. There are many such collections of writings from the Sant Dharam Das line of Masters, and some of those other texts such as the Anurag Sagar (The Ocean of Love), Kabir Sagar (Ocean of Kabir), and others have also been uploaded to the web as wonderful ebooks, done with the motivation of edification and education of those curious about the spiritual path. "You can not just brush the surface of a culture and pretend that you’ve found an answer. We must turn inward to the deepest of our own roots to find the very best of who we are." (Ravi Shankar)
So, yes Kabir taught the need for a living Master as have his many spiritual successors all the way up to the living present time. It would be a fallacy for anyone to suggest being curious about the earlier writings of the Sant tradition of India somehow would mean that one would not be interested in being initiated by a living Master. Rather, it's the opposite of that. It is not an "either or" proposition. The interests of the faithful devotee of Sant Mat encompassess both. Those who are initiated by contemporary Masters, those who are followers of the spiritual practices of Sant Mat, are precisely the ones who are most-of-all fans of the literary treasures, the spiritual classics, scriptures, the poetry and prose, the banis and bhajans of the earlier generations of these Saints and Mystics. Studying the teachings of the Masters is also a way to break free from being stuck in one's mind -- our habitual thinking patterns, and practice Remembrance of the spiritual path (satsang).
And if one actually takes the time and reads this, Kabir Panth Book Of Prayers, they will soon discover that it does advocate sitting at the feet of a Living Teacher of one's own time: "By devotion, all the sufferings of Dharam Dass vanished. It is by the good deeds of millions of births that he met Satguru Kabir." "Who is greater than Ram and Krishna? Even they accepted a guru. They were masters of the three worlds, but were humble before the guru." "As many saints, mahants and sadhus there were, they all served at the lotus feet of the guru." "Do not go through life without a guru. Keep this firm principle in mind!" "Without a guru, who else can remove doubts? In what way can the heart possess discriminative spiritual knowledge? Without a guru ignorance cannot be removed, and the soul does not realize it's true form." There are whole sections of this book extolling the need for a living master of the time!
The traditional format of a satsang is for someone to recite or sing from some earlier collection of Sant verses such as from the Bijak of Kabir, the Adi Granth, Anurag Sagar, Paltu Sahib, Namdev, Tukaram, Tulsi Sahib, Soamiji Maharaj, etc... and then a Master or whoever is giving the satsang discourse comments upon those verses. Traditional Sant Mat from India, as it has always been, focuses upon the teachings of the living Master, the earlier Masters of the lineage as well as the great collection of banis, bhajans, granths, all this vast Sant literature that has accumulated over the centuries out of the utmost respect for all of these great Masters, Saints and Sages that have blessed the world over the millennia, the various yugas, great epochs of time. One is counseled constantly about the need to have satsang every single day, to hear from one's teacher (Sant Satguru), to spend some time studying the instruction and wisdom of the Saints, to do simran and to meditate each and every day. "You should do your Bhajan and Simran every day." (Baba Jaimal Singh) "Do not live even a single day without inner meditation." (Baba Devi Sahib of Moradabad)
This Kabir Panth Book of Prayers is one such valuable collection, I dare say, is one of the more colorful assemblages of verses intended to inspire the satsangi to do the spiritual practices of the Sants: Simran: the Remembrance of names of God, Dhyan: inner visions of Divinity, radiant forms of Light, and Bhajan: the Unstruck Melody of the Sound Current or Audible Life Stream. And beyond these, one is encouraged to become a bhakta, a devotee approaching the Supreme Being with a spirit of love and devotion at every step. One is the "drop" of the soul merging into the Divine Ocean of Love. So the place we wish to ascend to is not to just any astral occult realm of esoterica but the Most High heavens of the Eternal Truth and Love, "the Far Country" that is the Goal of this Path of the Masters.
"The tenth gate is the gathering point of consciousness. Therein lies the path for our return. The tenth gate is also known as the sixth chakra, the third eye, Bindu, the center located between the two eyebrows. This is the gateway through which we leave the sense organs' gates, enter the divine realms, and finally become established in the soul. We travel back from the Realm of Darkness to the Realm of Light, the Light to the Divine Sound, and the Realm of Sound to the Soundless State. This is called turning back to the Source." (Swami Santsevi Ji Maharaj, Book of Sarvadharma Samanvy)
How could the love between Thee and me sever?
As the leaf of the lotus abides on the water,
so thou art my Lord, and I am Thy servant.
As the night-bird Chakor gazes all night at the moon,
so Thou art my Lord, and I am Thy servant.
From the beginning until the ending of time,
there is love between Thee and me;
And how shall such love be extinguished?
Kabir says: "As the river enters into the Ocean, so my heart touches Thee."
(Guru Kabir, Songs of Kabir)

On the afternoon of February 14, Junaid Khan, 32, and his nephew Nasir Khan, 25, left their small village of Ghatmeeka in India’s northwestern state of Rajasthan to attend a family function. They didn’t come back.
“When they didn’t return the same night, we got worried,” says Arshad Khan, 44, Junaid’s brother-in-law. “Their phones were switched off as well. We searched for them the whole day.”
Two days later, the men’s bodies were found inside a burned-out vehicle in the village of Loharu, around 240 kilometers away in the neighboring state of Haryana. On their way home after midnight, members of a far-right extremist group had allegedly abducted, tortured, and killed the men, who are Muslims, on suspicion of smuggling cows—animals that are considered sacred by Hindus. Consuming beef and transporting cattle is not illegal, but several states have passed restrictive laws over the past few years, essentially criminalizing a profession that is dominated by Muslims.
“Why did they have to be killed? What was their fault?” Khan says. “Who will look after their poor families now?”
Among the group suspected by police of murdering Junaid and Nasir is 28-year-old Monu Manesar, a high-profile YouTuber who has built a huge following online with his videos of cow vigilantism. Manesar, who is reportedly now on the run, is one of a large ecosystem of sectarian influencers on Indian social media who have benefited from the country’s nationalistic turn under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Human rights advocates say that their content—which is prevalent across Western-owned platforms—is exacerbating social division, and even leading to vigilante attacks on religious minorities.
“We have laws against hate speech that are being used selectively,” Aakar Patel, chair of Amnesty International India says. “Hate speech is allowed both by the government and the social media companies.”
In an email statement, YouTube spokesperson Jack Malon says that YouTube has suspended monetization on Manesar’s channel for violating its creator responsibility policy. “We also removed 9 videos from the channel in question for violating our harassment policies,” he said.
For the past five years, Manesar—a leading member of the Bajrang Dal, a far-right Hindu group—has been part of a team of cow vigilantes along the Rajasthan-Haryana border, and has uploaded videos of their attacks, predominantly on Muslims, to YouTube. His posts often begin with a car chase in the dark and end with group members posing with a cow they have “rescued.”
Manesar and his group have made no secret of the violence they subject their victims to. In June 2016, he was one of a number of people who appeared in a video in which two Muslim men were stopped in Badarpur border, South East Delhi, and forced to eat a concoction of cow dung, urine, milk, and curd. The men had been accused of smuggling beef. The video went viral on Twitter.
In one of his videos on YouTube, Manesar's team is even seen shooting at a truck driven by someone they accuse of being a cow smuggler, in an attempt to deflate its tires.
In January this year, Manesar and his team caught three Muslim men they accused of being cow smugglers. They livestreamed on Facebook as they interrogated the men. One of the men, 22-year-old Waaris Khan, died from internal injuries the same day. His family says he was lynched, but police say he died in an accident. The Facebook Live video has since been deleted.
Manesar also has posted routinely on Instagram—where he has 42,000 followers—including images of people he’s alleged to be cow smugglers, often visibly injured. In April 2022, he posted a video on his Instagram account showing a group of men assaulting a Muslim scrap picker with sticks. The caption reads, “These are the scrap-pickers that throw stones at our soldiers and Hindutva supporters.”
Meta did not respond to a request for comment.
Khan said that people in his region are aware of Manesar’s social media. “It is supposed to send a message to us,” he says.
In October 2022, YouTube awarded Manesar a silver play button for crossing 100,000 followers. YouTube’s literature says that Creator Awards are not automatically given when subscriber targets are hit, but are granted at the discretion of the company, which reviews channels before handing out the rewards. YouTube did not respond to a request for comment on Manesar’s award.
Comments under Manesar’s videos are mostly adulatory, thanking him and his team for his “service.” He has also had official endorsements. He’s posted pictures of himself with police officers and bureaucrats. In October 2021, Haryana police included him in a special task force to prevent cow smuggling. Three huge rallies were organized by right-wing organizations on February 19, 21, and 22.
On February 24, thousands of people took to the street in Rajasthan and Haryana to demand justice for Junaid and Nasir Khan. The police filed a complaint against more than 500 people for blocking the highway and suspended internet service in the district for three days, citing the possibility of communal tension.
Human rights groups say that sectarianism has flourished in the political environment created by Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party. The party has routinely equated national and religious identities, accusing people who criticize its politics of being anti-Hindu, while itself being accused of promoting hate speech against Muslims. In January, the government forced social media platforms to block clips of a controversial BBC documentary about Modi’s alleged involvement in intercommunal violence in 2002.
The government has banned hundreds of YouTube channels for spreading “fake news” or promoting “anti-Indian views.” But at the same time, there has been a proliferation of channels that broadcast extreme nationalist rhetoric.
In June 2022, a report by the NYU Stern Center for Business and Human Rights found that sectarian content was widespread in India. “The most troubling abuse of YouTube in India involves the targeting of Muslims by backers of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and other right-leaning Hindu nationalist groups.” The report concluded. “Religious intolerance long predated the arrival of YouTube in India, but widespread social media use has intensified the hostility.”
In December 2022, an investigation by The Caravan found dozens of Hindu nationalist YouTube channels that were broadcasting extremist content, with viewing figures in the hundreds of millions. Senior BJP leaders had been interviewed on some of the channels, which were “rapidly out-performing mainstream news channels in terms of their reach.”
Amnesty International’s Patel says that the proliferation is partly due to the growth of the platforms and the number of people now using them, “and partly because of the fact that hate speech has been condoned. If you make heroes out of people who abuse minorities and are violent, you will encourage more people to follow that path.”
Some nationalist and sectarian YouTubers have built massive followings, including Vikas Pathak, who had more than 800,000 followers on his Hindustani Bhau channel before it was suspended in 2020, after he posted a video in which he threatened to sexually assault a YouTuber from Pakistan. Days after his suspension, he managed to start another channel, which has 83,000 subscribers. He also has 2.2 million followers on Instagram.
Prem Krishnavanshi, a YouTuber from Uttar Pradesh with just over 87,000 subscribers, has built a career on pop songs aimed toward supporters of Hindutva, or Hindu nationalism. The lyrics of one of Krishnavanshi’s songs, released in 2019, roughly translates to, “You are not humans, you are butchers. Enough of Hindu-Muslim brotherhood.”
“The anti-Muslim online hate industry is booming and the companies are benefiting from it,” says Alishan Jafri, co-author of the Caravan report.
Malon, the YouTube spokesperson, says that the company removed more than 156,000 videos in the third quarter of 2022 for violating hate speech policies.
“Beyond removing harmful content, we also leverage our recommendations system and monetization tools, to promote a healthy ecosystem,” the statement read. “YouTube has always had clear community guidelines that outline what is allowed on the platform and we remove flagged videos and comments that violate our policies. These policies are global, meaning we apply them consistently to all creators on the platform, regardless of their background, political viewpoint, position or affiliation.”
Malon also says that creators can be penalized for abuse or violence that occurs off its platform.
As of February 28, Manesar’s YouTube channel was still active. He has added about 7,000 subscribers since the Khans’ deaths.
India is YouTube’s largest market, with 467 million users—nearly twice as many as the US.
Prateek Waghre, the policy director of the Internet Freedom Foundation, a digital rights group, says that YouTube’s recommendation algorithms may be partially to blame for the spread of this sectarian content. “YouTube has not been particularly open about its recommender system,” he says. “But the algorithm typically prioritizes engagement. If you watch a certain type of content, it will look to feed a similar type of content.”
Waghre says that detecting hate speech is complex in India, where people often switch between languages. But, he says, social media companies tend to be slow to react when alerted to potentially dangerous content. “Even inaction is a form of action,” he says. “Until it becomes a significant PR crisis, they tend not to take action. Sadly, this is consistent behavior across platforms. These companies need to think about how they perceive their neutrality.”
But Waghre also says he suspects that social media companies are nervous about going after nationalist figures, in case a backlash threatens their business interests. “If you take action against a popular right-wing figure, there is a good chance you might be targeted in some way or the other,” he says.
Patel says that more violence is inevitable as hate speech continues to spread, online and offline. “I am 53 years old,” he says. “I have not seen tensions running so high permanently through the country.”
