okay so the thing is control missed the boat in not really leaning into the parallels between trench/darling and dylan/jesse and their relationships with the hiss/hedron(/polaris). those relationships are, or should have been, the pillars of the game. if they'd leaned into the parallels i feel like that would've been the key to connecting the disparate storylines. i'm not saying the nature of those relationships are similar, just the wedges between them.

but (and maybe i'm just biased) it seemed like the only character the writing really cared about was dr. darling.

I'm all for analyzing character parallels, especially w these two bc i believe there are things to be taken out (yes, I am delusional, yes, I will make a whole essay if needed) but this feels really oversimplifying

Sean was put together with a bunch of wrecked pieces of shadow androids and metal prototypes to act as a maid for a mobian scientist. Unfortunately, said scientist is...not the best engineer, and her coding is 5% Shadow, 15% Metal Sonic, and 80% anxiety ridden spaghetti code. She's a 99% more likely to start crying very loudly in response to any sort of actual conflict than to start fighting anything.

Only two other tv/movie scenes have made me feel like my whole body is shuddering uncontrollably at the force of the emotion in the actor's face, voice and gestures...

#1 - Sean Penn wailing "Is that my daughter in there?" in Mystic River as you watch his whole world collapse in his eyes. Never fails to bring tears to mine.

#2 - Rhea Seehorn yelling at a stunned Patrick Fabian "Fair? Let's talk about fair. Hey, let's let Jimmy dig around in the fire-damaged wreck where his brother. Died. SCREAMING!" I can literally feel the force of her rage and heartbreak tearing at my chest. And fine, I get a bit scared of her too!

And finally, a new #3 for me.

Just Kieran Culkin grieving the death of his father by being unapologetically enraged at the narcissist trying to bully them into selling off their company. The pain in his voice and the almost manic anger in his eyes. Every gesture perfectly encapsulates his personality and his emotions. So far, he's the best actor on the show this season. Breathtaking.
