I'm seeing there's a lot of Taylor Swift discourse in my dash, so I came here to say that the only TS song I like is "Trouble" and it's exclusively because of this

I played Tangled Blessings, a solo/duet TTRPG the other night. During it I got a familiar that I named Memphis. He's adorable, screams all the time, but does his best to protec.

I'm not sure if I think the minecraft sheep is a stretch or not, but the main reason I'm reblogging this here is that I can NOT figure out what that bottom right mammal is from for the life of me, and I'm very curious

Collecting rare items in Minecraft
So I've had a longstanding Minecraft Survival World I've been playing since the Village and Pillage Update. Despite how long I've had the file, I usually only actually play Minecraft a couple months out of the year so I haven't actually made as much progress on it as you might expect.
This fall the abysmal reaction to the Movie's trailer and hype for Minecraft Live got me to start up the world again, and I set myself a lofty goal. I'd try and collect some of the rare items in my world I still hadn't gotten, and I've officially finished the hunt! I didn't hard focus and only work on it, I split things up with either days of not playing much if at all, or more casual build sessions, but here is where I'm at.
Sep 13th - BLOCK OF NETHERITE -Now I'd definitely gotten 9 Netherite Ingots before in the game, but usually whenever I got one I'd instantly throw it on my gear, so I never had 9 at one time. Once my gear was fully upgraded I never really went back for more of it. After a successful day of 34 Debris, and two shorter and less successful sessions bringing me 10 more, I had more than enough for the block!
Sep 26th - PIGLIN HEAD - I decided that since I was going to be doing a lot of building in the Overworld the next few months it would be smart to set up an automatic Charged Creeper farm hooked up to a Piglin farm. That way if a Thunderstorm ever hit I could just rush away from what I was doing, get some Creepers struck by lightning and throw 'em in the Nether to make getting the heads easier.
After I finished building it I decided to AFK at the farm while at work, just in case a storm did happen. When I got back for my lunch break there were enough Creepers in the chamber to get 8 freakin' heads (would've been 9 but one died of fall damage.)
Oct 4 - SCREAMING GOATS - Okay, maybe the date there isn't quite right, it's complicated. Basically I was building a large structure above where I wanted my Goat Horn Farm, so I split time between gathering resources for the build, building the structure, and breeding the Goats.
Sometime between Sep 29 and 30th I heard Goats screaming in my basement, so I stopped breeding them 'cause I knew I had one now. Between the 3rd and 4th I started siphoning Goats off into side chambers, saving the ones who could scream and killing most of the others. By the end of the culling I had 4 Screaming Goats! (I should really check my kill statistics to figure out how many breeding attempts it took... I'd estimate 200)
I then bred them a bit more and shoved them in the farm. I didn't get my last horn until pretty late the next day though, as I didn't realize they couldn't grow their horns back and I'd have to breed more. In the end though I got Dream and finished my Goat Horn collection!
Oct 12 - DEEPSLATE EMERALD - In between all the previous projects I was going back and forth to an Emerald mine under my Cherry Grove. In that mine I also swapped back and forth between chunk mining and caving. After about 6-8 chunks were mined I found it in a cave!
A part of the reason I was looking for the Ore was I was 90% sure the only recipe I was missing was from my Recipe Book was "smelt Deepslate Emerald in a Furnace," which you unlock by holding one. I was so panicked by joy I got a screenshot of the Ore but not the recipe popping. Whoops!
But turns out I was wrong. I was also missing the recipe for turning a Block of Raw Gold back into Raw Gold. I'll have to go back through and double check what else I'm missing now.
Oct 15 - SKELETON HORSE - I had a bit of a fun one this time. I had completely forgotten Skelly Horses when making my list of things to hunt down, but one just handed itself to me. I had picked a spot where I wanted to build my Panda sanctuary and logged off for the night. The next day when I logged in there was a Thunderstorm and I forgot my Bed so I Elytra'd off to a nearby house and skipped the night. When I came back there was a Skeleton Horse chilling on top of one of the trees.
I managed to kill all four riders and none of the steeds, then got them through my Nether rail back to my main base with ease.
Oct 19 - BROWN PANDA - My ultimate goal with this Panda sanctuary was having four of each personality type. I saw a design for breeding mutations I quite liked, and came up with a system to implement it.
The only Pandas I could find nearby were Normal and Aggressive, so I brought them to the pen and bred up four of each. Then I started siphoning the babies off to a separate chamber. Here I would breed a shit ton of pandas, then dig 1 block trenches for their babies to fall into a lower chamber. There I could save any babies with new mutations and... retire the rest (including those in the breeding chamber once I was done to prevent lag.)
So I bred my Normals and Agressives for a new batch of babies. Put them in the breeding chamber. First two Normals to grow up I bred and... I got a Brown Panda first try. Once their breeding cooldown was up I got another Brown Panda second try.
From then on getting all the other personality traits was easy, especially with Brown Pandas being recessive-recessive it was easy to spot mutations. I got Weak, Playful, and Lazy Pandas pretty quick, but it took a surprising amount of time to get a Worried one. By the end of the day I had four of each breed in my pen!
Oct 21 - BLUE AXOLOTL - The last thing on my list was the legendary Blue Axolotl, and luck was not on my side nearly as much for this one. I set up an automatic Tropical Fish farm, breeding chamber for Gold Axolotls, and a little siphon of waterlogged stairs that lured babies into a lower chamber. It was arduous work, and I spent a good 5-8 hours working on it.
Now when playing Minecraft I like to play YouTube videos as background noise, usually icebergs or video essays, especially with monotonous tasks. Eventually I got the point where I was like " it's late at night, I should probably call it for the day, maybe go to bed" but decided to put on one more hour and a half ARG breakdown and keep breeding.
30-50 minutes into that video, I spotted it. A little blue baby swimming in the tank. By the end of the Iceberg I managed to breed him up. Now Mudkip, Wooper, and their three babies are awaiting a home!
I'm not sure how long it took me. Minecraft does have an "animals bred" statistic, but as far as I know that doesn't list specific animals. In the end after cleaning out most (but not all) of the spare Golds I had 450 kills. And that's not counting the ones I used Entity Cramming to get rid of. All in all I'd estimate 600-700 Axolotl's bred... which from what I understand is still decent odds. Apparently after 1,000 breeds there's about a 50% chance you've gotten one, 95% chance at 4,000, and for most people it apparently takes about 10 hours. So not god luck like with those Pandas, but still decent!
Now I have all the rarest things in the game I was missing up until this point. I'd still like 3 more Ancient Cores and another Deepslate Emerald for a project... but I'm happy where I am. Most of the luck based stuff is done for this world, at least for now, and I can focus more on casual and fun stuff.
