'Shucked'! "Shucks Ma'am, It's a Helluva Show!"
'Shucked' is a musical fable/farce to see for its side-splitting humor and deeper messages current for us today.
Ashley D. Kelley, Grey Henson in Shucked (courtesy of Matthew Murphy & Evan Zimmermann) If you love corn and even if you hate it, you will laugh at the jokes about or related to the sunny fruit (official classification) in Shucked, the funny, bright, clever, homespun musical fable/farce about love, corn and deeper things. Shucked is a throwback to delightful Broadway productions that are easily…

Maligayang Pask-OH SHIP! Mixtape 2, Listening Guide 1
Section 11: A North Pole Soiree
Followed by eager children, the listener treks the North Pole, snow gently falling, as Philip Pickett and the New London Consort plays the sinfonia from Bach’s Christmas Oratorio. Now depicting elves, the Canadian Brass greets them with “Jolly Old St. Nicholas" outside Santa's Workshop.
Once inside, the Bob Rivers Comedy Corp – also in elf getups – usher in the Jackson 5 with “Grahbe Yahbalz.” The youngest of the group – the young Michael Jackson himself – tells the story of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”
Mitch Miller and the Gang play a guessing game with the listener and the kids in “Must Be Santa.” The Jersey Shore Boss – Bruce Springsteen – and the E Street Band admonish them that “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town.” Jessie J also forewarns them about “The Man with the Bag.” One of the Kidsongs Kids piped up, musing, “If I Had a Pony for Christmas.” Perry Como sings about a special “Toyland.”
Suddenly, the listener finds oneself in the toy factory, and the toys enliven. The first to come alive are Harry Connick Jr. – as an action figure a la Minecraft User – and his “Parade of the Wooden Soldiers.” Destiny’s Child, TI, and Lil’ Wayne dolls rap about the “Soldier.” Bob Rivers Comedy Corp – depicted as dolls – fight over the “Pokemon” plushes, which likewise come to life.
Aqua and the “Barbie Girl” enliven, and Ken asks her to swing-dance to Duke Ellington Orchestra figurines playing “Satin Doll.” The Bowser plush sings about “Peaches” on a toy electronic keyboard before “The Super Mario Bros.” ones rap.
Section 12: Naughty-Listed
The listener then travels to young Stan Freberg’s house, in which he laments to a robber, “I’m Getting Nuttin’ for Christmas.” It turns out the burglar is Sam Harris, who bursts into a showstopping cover of “Satan’s Li’l Lamb.” His younger brother – one of the Kidsongs Kids – awakens. He tells the pair what he wants to tell Santa: “Santa, Please Don’t Forget Me.”
Section 13: Child of Mary
For many Catholics, Christmas is second to Easter as the biggest keystone liturgical celebration. And what better way to commence the segment with Celine Dion’s cover of Schubert’s setting of the Ave Maria? Jose Mari Chan contributes with his cover of “Mary’s Boy Child.” Tara Chugh and Now & Then head to the manger with the viewer, singing Scott Soper’s lovely medley of “What Child is This?” and “Child of the Poor.” Mariah Carey admires the creche in front of them, lauding, “O Holy Night.”
Section 14: Una Epifanía Mexicana
The listener walks down a rural road in Mexico, with St. Paul’s Cathedral Choir singing “We Three Kings of Orient Are” behind them. One arrives with three actors portraying the Magi, with Jose Feliciano wishing them “Feliz Navidad” at the town gates.
Mariachi Juvenil welcome “Melichor, Gaspar, y Baltasar” – and the listener – to the square, where the townsfolk hang a 7-pointed star pinata for their Dia de los Reyes fiesta. They all sing, “Dale, Dale, Dale!” Apiece blindfolded and with each taking turns, some of the youths and the listener attempt to hit the pinata as Dana Hanchard, Derek Lee Ragin, and Joel Cohen’s Boston Camerata sing Juan Araujo's Los coflades de la estleya. The listener finally breaks it open with a torrent of candies piling on the tiled grounds.
Best listened with Spotify Premium.

Schucked Theater Review.
Robert Massimi.
"Shucked" is probably the funniest musical on Broadway right now. Based on the book by Robert Horn, the play takes place in the Nebraska corn field where the corn on the farm of Maizy (Caroline Innerbichler) is dying. She sets out for Tampa, Florida of all places to find the answers to her questions. She lands upon a fake podiatrist who after finding out precious rocks are on the farmland says he can help her with her problem. The story is told by two tremendous narrators; Grey Henson and Ashley D. Kelley. Replete with jokes and raucous fun, these two are the centerpiece of the hilarity. As Beau (Andrew Durand) is losing his girl to the conman Gordy, (John Behlmann), he plots forward to prove that Gordy is a fake. He has an allie in Lulu, her cousin. She too thinks that Gordy is a fraud and does her best of exposing him; trouble is, she starts to fall for him as well. In Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally's music we get silly, fun songs. There are some really deep, meaningful ones, however. Songs that knock it out of the park are "Woman of the World", "Independently Owned", "I Do", "Corn Mix" and "Maybe Love". The direction by Jack O'Brien is stellar in this hidden gem of a musical. Sarah O'Gleby adds a simple, but sweet Choreography in this two hour twenty minute whirlwind of a show. Scott Pask's scenic design is right on the mark in that he gives us the feel for the corn fields in a barn like set. Japy Weideman in the lighting is a cross of glam and romantic, The lighting supports the director well here in that it is never overpowering nor weak. A right blend brings the action to the forefront. The costumes by Tilly Grimes run from the ridiculous to the traditional, and why not, the entire show vacillates this way! While all the performers are good, people like Kevin Cahoon, John Behlmann and Andrew Durand stand out, as do the the storyteller's. The entire cast works this absurd comedy well; they have fun with it too! For the most part, the diverse cast is terrific. At times it is difficult to imagine the grandfather being Maizy's relations. At times, the grandfather tries to bring a New York or New Orleans Jazz feel to the show which makes it feel scripted. In "Shucked", the audience is treated to a wonderful time, enjoyable and warm, this is one that must be seen!

Have any of these people but not limited to: Nichole Herbert Wood, Shilpa Biliomoria, Matthew Wood from Second Floor Studios & Arts LTD/CIC or Harriet Pask, Matthew Slade, Scott McCormick from Quintain (Letterbag LTD or one of their various companies) discriminated against you, victimized you, harassed you, bullied you in the past or even currently as a licensee member and then threatened you with eviction for speaking up about it or worse, evicted you?
If so, you are not alone. This website is launched on behalf of the countless other creative individuals who fell victim to what Second Floor promised to be doing for the creative community in London. Instead, Second Floor fosters an unsafe working environment where all licensee members have to walk on eggshells around the likes of Nichole, Shilpa, Matthew and others as they are psychologically abused, screamed at, and threatened as a means to subjugate them into a form of control.
Second Floor chooses a non inclusive approach to licensee members and spend their days focused on disrespectful business practices, insulting/narcissistic conduct and behaviour such as starting false rumours and openly making disparaging remarks about current and past creatives, threats usually implying or outright saying eviction, bullying, victimization, discrimination and not even end of list.
This high stakes hostile working environment they've created is unsafe for creatives to be themselves and thrive in their work due to Second Floor's unrelenting negativity. Especially as they have their 'key members of the team' as they put it, like Shilpa who does this all to licensee members in person and then reports back (with truth or not), in order for Nichole and Matthew to weaponize as a form of gaslighting. This turns into an attack of licensee members by e-mail and demands their attendance on dictated video calls.
If licensee members don't respond fast enough or decline based on the vitriol in their e-mails, they force them out of their studios through unethical and inhumane practices. It's dehumanizing, as this treatment is pegged as the price creatives have to pay in order to receive less than commercial priced rent for studios they otherwise couldn't afford.
If you or you know of anyone who has faced this rogue companies tactics, please spread the word as there is more power in numbers to stand up to this company masking as being in creatives best interests. They have an extensive history of doing this to numerous people and ruining creatives lives and dreams. Most feel powerless up against them so give up or don't fight them because of legal costs or for their own mental health and wellbeing.
Not a victim but still would like to help, you can donate to our legal fund to help fight the injustice that Second Floor Studios & Arts LTD/CIC and Quintain (Letterbag LTD) inflicts on poor creatives by taking advantage of them. With your help, we can do what is necessary and take this case all the way, in front of a judge who will hold them accountable with consequences and get justice for all victims while hopefully stopping this from happening to anyone else.

“The Ritz.” Scott Pask Studio, www.scottpaskstudio.com/the-ritz/
Crowley’s play changed the course of theatre culture “for the gayer.” It was part of the catalyst that inspired the LGBT patrons to fight back against police raiders in the Stonewall Inn, which caused the beginning of the Gay Liberation Movement in 1969. It was also the reason NYC’s Stonewall Anniversary March became known as the first LGBTQ+ Pride parade (Colleran, par 5 & 6). Crowley’s play even inspired future Broadway productions incorporating or focusing on the queer community. An example is The Ritz by Terrence McNally, which was introduced to Broadway in 1975 and ended up being a hit. The Ritz was a comedic farce about a gay bathhouse, and McNally was described to “be both a traditionalist and a pioneer,” with its production and success (Colleran, par 10).
Crowley’s play and the 1975 Boston production caused a significant cultural turning point for theatre culture because they challenged homophobia within productions. Queer themes and images within media were banned during the 1930s and so on for being considered “scandalous” and a “social problem,”(Blaney, par 3). Queer images were banned on Broadway stages, and the Hays Code worked to ban queer themes on Hollywood screens; those who went against this ban were usually arrested. Because of this ban, there was a lot of “censorship of gay themes in theatre and film…in the US from the 1930s through the 1960s,” (Blaney, par 3). Although Crowley’s production played into societal stereotypes and incorporated his own self-hatred, it inspired future queer productions. Most productions were made to be comedies as well, such as the 1975 Boston production, but it worked to incorporate more queer themes within the media.
