New World Headquarters for the Research Commission, Formation of The Hunter’s Guild: The Settlement of Astera or The Settlement of Astera or Astera (Monster Hunter: World) made by hand primarily from paper (also floral wire, toothpicks, epoxy resin) 28” x 20” diameter

My largest miniature yet and certainly the most densely constructed. This piece took me 5 months, chipped through well over 1k blades, 4 pads of bristol paper, countless sheets of cardstock, 3 bottles of glue, 48 LEDs, and a liter of clear cast resin. For scale photo scroll all the way down!

I kept a weekly journal documenting the process for free reads on my Patreon over here: https://www.patreon.com/collection/60826

Started working on an Isha model this week. And I’m pretty happy with how it’s going.
Started off with working on the skin tones using oils after priming.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then moved on to start the clothes. I really loved how the torso tuned out. With it being the first time I focused on painting shadows and highlights on the folds.

Happy to look at the progress and see where I have progressed from when I first did Jinx last year. The skin tones might be a bit light for Isha, but probably perfect for Jinx. Hard to tell while the oil is still wet and the eyes and hair aren’t painted.
I will be posting updates underneath this post, then make a new post once of the final pictures once it is complete.

I've printed and painted a scale model of the Penrose the other day. 3D printed this model by 1helios1 on Thingiverse from PLA and, and made the base largely from cork and some texture paint. Really fun project!
Kinda wanna do the hole in the ground(tm) next, or the Red Gate. I just lowkey still suck at painting snow lmao

It figures that one of the model customs I feel most confidently could be live show quality (yes, we hobby people have little horse and other animal shows for our plastic critters) is--a goose. But she really is one of the nicest customs I've done, made from Breyer's Stablemate Companion Animal swan, and I can't find any significant faults.
The last picture shows the original swan, with two little feet sticking out from under a flat belly. I removed those and completely resculpted her belly and new legs/feet on a base; I also resculpted her face just a bit to make it more goose-like. The base is covered in model railroad greenery. She's got a lot of personality for something two inches tall, and I'm going to enjoy her as long as she's on my shelf. In the meantime, if you want to give her a home she's $60 (shipping included in the US, international is extra.) She's available at https://www.etsy.com/listing/1831267988/agatha-custom-breyer-stablemate-swan-to (or DM me if you want to purchase directly.)

I was awestruck by this display. The density of detail between the buildings, people, and ships, is almost overwhelming. This was the last diorama of the series (or the first depending on which way you were coming from). The California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento was worth visiting for this series of dioramas alone.
*Smuggler’s Cove*
This O scale narrow gauge layout, Smuggler’s Cove, built by Michael Flack and the late Geoff Knott in Australia, depicts a fictional New England fishing community modeled after towns in coastal Massachusetts and Maine. Small and large fishing boats and the steamboat Sabino near the Maritime Museum play a prominent role in this coastal diorama. Look for intricate details such as the scratch built lobster traps, floats, and fish crates stacked on the pier. How many seagulls can you spot in Smuggler’s Cove?
*Geoff Knott and Michael Flack*
The late Geoff Knott and Michael Flack were insprred to build Smuggler’s Cove after discovering the history of rum-running along the East Coast of the US, in the carly 1900s, their inspiration for Smuggler’s Cove came after Geoff and Michael traveled to New England and visited Cape Cod, Boothbay Harbor, Bar Harbor, and Kennebunkport, Geoff and Michael helped to popularize O scale models. <Layout furnished by the Australasian Region of the NMRA>.

My project for the month of October. Thought the arms reaching out for her added a spooky element to the model.

Had to share all these gorgeous details, like the TEXTURES on this models are just gorgeous! All that filigree and bead detailing is raised which made painting it much easier, but still very tedious (so worth the results though). This was my first time painting a face bigger than tabletop mini scale, and boy was I intimidated. Had some friends point me to ball-jointed doll makers and learned about detailing faces with chalk pastels, so I used pastels to give his cheeks some colour, blush the tips of his ears, and make the shadows under his eyes. I could go back and add more colour/texture to his hair but I think its best if I leave it, lest I play with it too much and end up ruining things. I have to keep reminding myself that just cause I can see things in macro lens photos, doesn't mean I'm actually able to go correct those things 😅
Regardless, I'm so so happy with how he turned out, and its crazy that I can look at this and go "me!!! I PAINTED THAT!! ME!!!", and now I have a stunning model of everyones favourite lil rat bastard (affectionate) vampire mans💕
