A bitter sweet roll of emotions kept me moving mechanically. I knew Jesse was excited for a chance to party. He was always excited for good food and good friends. And after the whole thing with Eric, it would be nice for everyone to be together. But, I wasn't ready to go. It was as simple as that. I wasn't ready to give up the life I was building here. The friends I had made. The lovers, my cheeks heated up and I stumbled my swing slightly.

Are you alright? Jonah's voice echoed through my mind and a small shiver ran up my spine. I stroked my hand down his handle.

"Yeah, sorry, just distracted." I mumbled, I adjusted my grip on him after putting the block of wood back into position. His weight familiar and comforting in my hand as I swung it towards the wood. Jesse had decided that to celebrate the end of summer, me leaving Verona Beach, that we should have a bonfire. Sunder had gone to fetch more booze. Sawyer wanted to get marshmallows, they wanted to try their hand at s’mores. I hope it goes better than their grilled cheese and soup adventures. Even if it did make me feel better. Isaac had luckily agreed to go and supervise them. Who knows what they would come back with otherwise. But we needed wood chopped.

Of course Jonah had volunteered to use his weapon form. The man was too kind for his own good and would never turn down the chance to help someone. And so that's what we were doing. Chopping wood. We had been stacking it initially but Dr. Holmes and Rowan were arguing about magic or science to get the fire going and Jesse was encouraging it which led to the stack being knocked over. Again.

And again.

And again.

And if it wouldn't upset Jonah I would consider swinging him at Jesse.

Instead I was trying not to think about this being my last night here. How much I would miss the people I had met. Or how much I would miss going into dungeons. There may be other dungeons and other weapons out there, but it would never be the same as it was here. Not that I couldn't visit Jesse and Samantha. But it wouldn't be the same. I had known that my time here was limited. I had and I even remembered most of the time. But it still did not feel real. That it could end like this. But it was what it was. There was nothing I could do about it. Mom was already planning days out for us to catch up.

I was...

I just hoped I could get through all of this without bursting into tears.

Do you want to talk about it? Jonah's voice provided a soothing stroke of comfort to my tumbling mind. It's not like you haven't listened to me before.

"I just..." I sighed and stopped swinging. The edge of his blade resting on the large piece of wood I was using to hold the smaller ones we were chopping. "...I'm not ready to go. I knew the day was coming. It's been there since the beginning but I just..."

I made a choking laugh, holding his handle with one hand while rubbing my eyes with the other.

You forgot about it while enjoying your life.

"Yeah. And like I said, it's stupid. I know that. But...I didn't realize how lonely I was until I came here and Jesse started forcing me to go out and meet people and yeah, Eric was....yeah but I've loved getting to know all of you so much. I just-"

I cut off when the ax handle pulled from my hand and Jonah suddenly changed back to his human form. He fell back to sit on the stump, his large hands reaching out, grabbing my hips, and pulled me down to his lap. His arms wrapped tightly around me as he held me close. The sudden movement was surprising but I didn't stop myself from reaching back and hugging the man close, hiding my face in his neck. He smelled like the ocean after surfing earlier.

"You know...you...well if you wanted, you could stay here. With me." Jonah was blushing when I jerked back to stare at him with wide eyes. He was not making eye contact with me, instead looking off to the side, his hands resting on my hips and holding me close. "If you wanted. We could...I know we've had a pretty casual relationship and I don't want to pressure you but, maybe if you'd like, if it is okay with you...I mean maybe you'd like to have me as a primary partner?"

"You're asking me to move in with you?" I could barely get the words out. They didn't sound quite real. I was sure I was mishearing or misunderstanding but Jonah blushed a bit darker before finally looking me in the eye.

"Yes. I'd very much like it if you would stay. I can visit you if you still go home instead, but...I'd very much like to continue exploring the dungeons and...being okay with my other form."

"Yes. A thousand times yes!" I couldn't stop myself from surging forward and capturing his mouth with my own. He tasted like pine and his arms tightened around my waist a bit more.

"Yo! You're supposed to be chopping wood!" Jesse's voice cut in and we pulled apart though Jonah did not let go of his hold on me quite yet.

I glared at Jesse before grinning. "Alright Bossy."

Jesse got a suspicious look on his face at how easily I agreed with his order and slid from Jonah's lap. I couldn't really blame him for being suspicious. "Okay. Good, ‘cause I gotta send my cousin off in style."

"Oh I'm not going anywhere." I said turning my back to him to hide my smirk as Jonah switched back to his axe form. "You get to explain to mom that you set me up with someone I'm moving in with."

"Wait! What?" Jesse yelled as I started chopping more wood.

"It's only fair." I spoke between swings. "We're doing this work for your bonfire. You get to do the work of explaining me staying here to mom."
