From: Pollet, Rep. Gerry Date: Fri, Jun 8, 2018 at 3:31 PM Subject: Changes Proposed to 35th Ave NE To: "Pollet, Rep. Gerry" Dear Neighbors, Thank you for taking the time to write to me and share your thoughts on the proposed major changes to 35th Ave NE and our Wedgwood community. This is an important discussion for our community. I live right near Wedgwood. My family uses the businesses on 35th NE and appreciate that they contribute to a true neighborhood. For many years, I have joined in advocating for safer streets for our pedestrians, especially children walking or biking to Eckstein MS, Thornton Creek, Bryant and Wedgwood Elementary Schools – as well as urging new safety improvements for 75h NE at 35th Ave NE; and, crosswalks for the post office. The need for NE 75th St intersection improvements was a discussion that the City said would be continued from the improvements in front of Eckstein following the DUI murder of community members on 75th. Thus, I attended meetings and discussions with SDOT and community members and eagerly awaited some improvements. The notices from SDOT, however, were for repaving plans and the most dramatic changes were not initially discussed or the subject of neighborhood based community planning. We have heard from many people in the community who were surprised to learn that the project had been decided upon with dramatic changes that they had been unaware of, and which were not the result of real neighborhood based planning and safety efforts. We have heard from people who like the proposal and many who object. I have a firm belief in empowering neighborhood based planning. To make sure we have time to hear thoughts and feedback, Sen. Frockt, Rep. Valdez, and I have arranged time for you to drop in and have a discussion with us. Please feel free to stop by at any time and visit: Tuesday June 12 3:45 PM – 5:00 PM Northeast Branch Library Meeting Room 6801 35th Ave NE Seattle WA 98115 We tried our best to find a time where we could all join you together, and were able to reserve a space. I look forward to having a thoughtful discussion, Gerry Representative Gerry Pollet 46th District (Northeast and North Seattle, Lake Forest Park and Kenmore) (360) 786-7886 Olympia (206) 729-3242 District Office [email protected] Subscribe to my email list here! Because I know how hard it is to go to Olympia to meet your legislators during the Session, I am committed to holding weekly drop-in, in-district discussion times at different locations around the district on most Saturday mornings from 10-12. Check where upcoming Traveling Town Halls will be on my home page: http://housedemocrats.wa.gov/roster/rep-Gerry-Pollet/

What the “Save 35th Ave NE” neighborhood group is fighting for. A good look at what makes sense for 35th.

4toExplore (a neighborhood blog) recently published results of a survey of nearly 400 residents about the 35th Ave NE “paving project”. 12% of our community are in favor.

Here is a compelling video about the concerns local businesses on 35th Ave NE about proposed changes to the street.

If you couldn’t make it to the community meeting with 46th Legislative District representatives, here’s a video (h/t Dave Crowther for shooting). Great showing by the community trying to Save 35th Ave NE.
Some great perspectives and interesting information, including the gentleman who pointed out that the changes to 35th Ave NE don’t meet the state and city’s own standards for appropriate widths for parking and lanes.
Thanks to our legislators Rep. Pollet (who organized), Rep. Juarez, and Sen. Frockt for taking the time to speak with the community and hearing that 7 out of 10 oppose these changes.

This is not “cars vs. bikes”.

Let's be clear, this is NOT about "cars versus bikes" - plenty of our neighborhood cyclists think the idea of riding on a crowded, oversubscribed, narrow 35th is harebrained.

Here’s an easy way to let our elected officials know that you care about the damaging changes proposed for 35th Ave NE and want them to listen to the overwhelming amount of opposition.
