Hi! Could you give some information about some of your OCs?

Hello Midnight! Sure!! Hmm I'll do a quick summary of the Flower Fighter Five (that's the dumb name Cynthia gave their friendship group, and you'll see why in a moment)... starting with:

Dism Dandelion: A boy previously kidnapped for 10 years, released back into his hometown of Amonea at 15. Turns out he has magical powers due to the circumstances of his birth, which is what we call a Lucid Dreamer in the You Have No Name canon (YHNN for short). Lucid Dreamers are a mixed race between a human from Byrgir (the non-magic, "normal" world in this portal fantasy) and Oskopnir (the dream world),, they can summon weapons from objects dear to them, shift outfits based on their personality a la the Persona 5 Phantom Thieves, and can have any one of 7 powers (Darkness, Light, Time/Stasis, Life, Decay, Intuition, Spirit-Space) based on the colour of their blood. Dism does the time stuff, because his blood is yellow :) He's very insecure. Cannot read social cues. Also bisexual. He has a hero/white-knight complex because he thinks that’s going to get him the favour of others he thinks he needs (so misguided ;w;), and a naïve, black-and-white worldview. He's also compassionate, earnest, and persistent, as well as positive :). The protagonist, searching for the person who haunts his memory, who turns out to be:

Archus "Archie" Dandelion: Dism's older brother of 19. A run-away from home, he's been searching for his brother ever since the year after the incident, and has currently been whisked away to Oskopnir where he now works in the political scheme to enact protections for the Lucid Dreamers, which are often forcefully taken to research facilities, or wound up in a lot of xenophobia and/or misinformed hatred. Speaking of said research facilities, he was tested in one of those once too. See, Oskopnir is also home to the spiriters, lil creatures that are said to feed off of the emotional energy of other beings, and eventually turn them into eldritch abominations to gain even more, and Archie is a fusion of a human and one of those. Hence, he has a mask on his left that he cannot take off (it kind of looks like the head of the 3rd angel Sachiel from the Neon Genesis Evangelion series).

Immensely traumatised cinnamon roll in desperate need of a hug and therapy. Idealistic, whimsical, playful soul that adores children. Has a really bad inferiority complex, and is quite envious because of it. Selfless to a fault, and emotionally unpredictable. A ticking time bomb for being pushed over the despair event horizon. Seriously stuck in the past; too afraid to let go of anything. 2k12 best actor, parent friend, chef, and storyteller all in one. The token cishet in a group of queers. Has adopted several kids as wards over the course of his life, such as Ewan, Luna, Theon and most importantly:

Inigo Saudade/Valere-Vervain: THE BESTEST BOY FOR 3 YEARS RUNNING. Once a paper orphan, he met Archie on the streets who ended up touching his heart in the worst way forever. Due to certain... incident involving someone's diary containing very important photos being thrown into a river for desperately needed food, and Archie's suicidal ideation/depressive tendencies and him now having no indication of being alive for several years, Inigo now carries the guilt of thinking he's "killed" the first person who ever truly loved him. This problem only gets worse when he meets Archie's brother in the future at 13 years old, who is actually looking for said Archie. You can only imagine the conflict that would arise from this y'know?

Now living with the most loving adoptive parents in the world, he works in their ice-cream shop. An indigo lucid dreamer with intuition powers. Also does archery as a hobby using a recurve bow, and participates in field archery competitions which he excels in. Has nightmares and doesn't eat properly due to his guilt complex. Puts up an icy front with others to avoid getting attached in the same way; really a sweet, affectionate boy underneath. On the aro-ace spectrum. He works very hard, almost unhealthily so, and is very, very intelligent-- he's advanced two grades to be where Dism and Cynthia are. He’s also very snarky and smug, and because of his trauma-induced guilt, self-destructive, self-loathing even. Not to mention impulsive. But for those that can see past the exterior of emotional dishonesty and borderline manipulation, there’s a caring, thoughtful, and most importantly devoutly loyal boy underneath :) (I stole this excerpt from my previous OC ask because he is worth the detail). Gets into a QPR (Queerplatonic Relationship) with Dism,, that's the main pairing in this canon! Also best friends with:

Cynthia Conifer Smith: She could not be a further opposite to her bestie. Completely normal, human, extroverted, media-obsessed lil girl who runs an unofficial daycare/arcade/babysitting service in her brother's garage. Makes sugary mocktail drinks for fun. Absolute reining queen at Mario Kart. Fanfiction author,, and is quite good at it too. She cannot draw to save her life however. She dyes her beautiful bright pink hair herself. Watches far too much anime, could probably quote entire episodes if you wanted her to. Also pansexual!

Moodmaker of the group, she brings out all the inspirational quotes. Not the brightest, but she’s spunky and very confident-- if lacking in the patience department and absent-minded at times. Embroils herself in Dism's circumstances because like most of these characters, she fears isolation and loneliness. There may be some trauma involved over why that's such a recurrent theme with these guys, but anyway. Passionate, and her lack of book smarts leads her to think in out-of-the-box ways in comparison to other characters. Probably has ADHD tbh. Uses Sparknotes and Litcharts to pass essays. And she becomes good friends with:

Ribbon | Idyllia Asteraceae (As-teh-race-see-I) Idyllia was once early childhood friends with Dism and Archus. Clad in white and adorned with navy blue ribbons, she is "the ghost" of Amonea, a shy and reserved figure not many know about in this small town. Has a background of recurrent ME/CFS, so she is homeschooled and lives in a hospice. A blue lucid dreamer who controls life. Was the illegitimate child of the goddess of what is essentially heaven in Oskopnir, and was heavily sought after for her powers, though thanks to a noble sacrifice she made it to Byrgir unharmed. Older than she looks slightly. Gets roped into doing the whole anime thing with Cynthia-- really likes sailor moon. Has a cheeky, teasing side. Makes everyone play monopoly when they get together to play games. A musician, she plays the flute like how Dism plays the piano. Supresses her emotions under her Ribbon persona, lives in full flavour of them in her Idyllia one. She has the Ribbon persona to escape from her past life where she continually failed to protect people, again and again. Inigo dislikes this because it's a harsh reminder of what he's doing. Initially shy and unassuming, bold when she comes out of her shell. Gives Archie a run for his (non-existent) money in capriciousness and tempestuousness-- especially when she's split between both her lives when both of them fail to be pain-free. Completely unflinching when it comes to horror/the supernatural; quite amused by it actually. Really just wants to have a good time and support her friends :). Also Bi! (Shippable with both Archie and Cynthy I'm keeping this open ended bc she works with both)

Saudade: Melancholic longing or nostalgia for a person, place or thing that is far away from you

Cyberpunk 2077; V/Jackie; PG-13

The alley that cuts behind the apartment building is reasonably quiet, for a city street. It’s not nearly quiet enough that he notices her until she's nearly on top of him. It’s a flicker of movement in his peripheral vision that alerts him that he’s not alone, the rugged, handmade quality of her pants that tells him it’s her, and he traces her in the corner of his eye and her reflection of the chrome as she reaches out to draw her fingers across the width of the handlebars.

“Preem ride.”

Jackie snorts so hard he almost chokes on it. “Talkin’ the bike, or...?”

V flashes him a grin.

“The bike. It yours?”

“Mhhmm.”

“You didn’t tell me you had a motorcycle.”

“Didn’t see much of anywhere to let it slip into conversation.”

Draping herself over the back of the motorcycle, V watches him as he fits the parts and pieces back together. She slides her fingers over the gas tank, following the details of the paint.

“You do the design work yourself?”

There's a strange kind of intrigue in her eyes, an awe in her voice that just doesn’t fit the class of machinery he’s got to work with.

Scratching his eyebrow, Jackie sighs.

“C'mon, V, you ain't gotta act all impressed with it just ‘cause it’s mine,” he tells her. “It's a hunk of junk.”

All at once, there’s a thundering crack of silence between them. Sucking in a shallow breath, V blinks at him, and he gets an up close look as her bubbly good mood evaporates.

“Hey, wait!”

She shifts, starting to push herself up; Jackie makes a snap grab for her arm before she can follow through, and she stills, staring at the ground.

“What’d I say?”

He rubs the back of her wrist with his thumb, and her gaze drifts to where his fingertips have left smudges of grease on her skin. She hunkers down again, more as though whatever invisible weight on her shoulders is pushing her down, and her hair tumbles forward over her shoulders, obscuring his view of her face.

“I wasn’t acting,” she relents. “I-... It’s just...”

Jackie reaches up to push her hair out of his way, tucking it back behind her ears. Only the way she leans into his touch causes him to linger, tracing the line of her jaw until his fingers slide out from under her chin.

“I guess when you grow up surrounded by junk...” she tries again to explain, with a small shrug, “It...”

He gets it then, or he thinks he does.

“Didn’t mean it that way, V.”

V nods subtly, but it’s an acknowledgement all the same. For a few moments, at least, it’s a little more peaceful of a quiet. He’s almost done anyway, and so he gets back to it. Yet still he finds himself watching her as much as what he’s doing.

“You... uh...” he asks, as he fits the last piece in its place, “You ride?”

Her eyes flick low between them, then to his face; her eyebrows arch over a carefully schooled, borderline innocent expression.

Leaning back on his hands, Jackie clears his throat.

“Talkin’ bikes, chica. You know how to handle one?”

And just like that, she’s smiling again. If faintly.

“Yeah. ‘Course. Can’t scout without a bike.” She scrapes her fingers over the worn grain of the faux leather beneath them. “Learned pretty early, actually. My father found mine in a junkyard. My grandmother fixed it up. Whole new world of freedom. ...plus, you know how it is; I got to pick up all the girls and impress all the boys.”

“What happened to it?”

“Had to leave it behind.” She surmises out loud, “Imagine it’s in someone else’s hands now.”

“You couldn’t take it with you?”

V taps her fingers, and shook her head. “I had to steal a car; wouldn’t have been fair.”

Jackie nodded. He didn’t quite understand, but he got some gist of it.

“You know, I... when I got tagged for scouting, no one ever wanted to partner up with me; half the time it was just me and the bike and the stars.”

“You tellin’ me you’re too wild for even nomad guys?”

The question earns a scoff, but no answer. He doesn’t know if that means yes, or if it’s a stupid question, or if there isn’t one.

Jackie grabs his rag off the ground, and pushes himself forward to his knees. He scrubs his hands clean of as much grease as he can manage before reaching into his pocket for the keycard.

Holding it out to her, he asks, “You wanna take it for a spin? Test the work for me?”

V’s eyes light up.

Her hand closes over the card, but she leans in past it to kiss him. Against his, her mouth is soft and slightly insistent, in such a way that makes something in his chest flutter. Like maybe someday he could love this woman, especially if she keeps it up like this.

Although that’s only if he’s not already gotten ahead of himself, there.

The thought leaves him smirking as she swings her leg over the back of the motorcycle to settle in its seat, and Jackie gets to his feet. The bike starts up, at least sounding better than it did a couple of weeks ago.

Glancing at him, V gives a little nod. “You wanna come with?”

His first impulse is to decline, only because he thinks she’d enjoy herself more if he wasn’t along for the ride. Then he remembers the part where no one would ride with her, and drops the rag in with his tools.

“Sí, por qué no.”

Jackie takes a moment to hide his kit before joining her on the bike. She inches forward as he settles in behind her and, sliding his arms comfortably around her waist, he makes a note to look into installing a more accommodating seat if this is going to become a thing.

But it’ll work well enough for a test run.

V hits the throttle, taking them out of the alley at a practically insane clip, and it’s just like that, between one moment and the next that they’re flying through the streets of Heywood like it’s the highest vault of Heaven.

There’s also eita, which is a perfect word, omg, I don’t know what I would do without this word. In English, one of them is embrace as I said above. Os Destaques da temporada de Abril de 2021 de animes

Essa temporada teve muitos animes bons,despedidas,surpresas e também algumas decepções e alguns vão deixar saudades,vamos conferir lembrando que não existe ordem de preferencia

Ijiranaide Nagatoro-san(12 episódios)

eu confesso que eu ia assistir Nagatoro apenas por curiosidade e pela polêmica desnecessária criada em torno dele de uma suposta romantização do bullying e no final das contas Nagatoro foi uma surpresa tão impactante e inesperada que virou uma das minhas comédia românticas favoritas até sendo rival pra outras como Love Hina,Go Tobun no Hanayome e Kaguya-sama e ele faz parte justamente dessa leva ótima de romcoms que nós temos tido nos últimos tempos sendo que os autores andam inovando bastante e criando temáticas bem diversas dentro deste gênero que vinham sofrendo igual os mangás Shoujo de pecar pela repetição e o que pareceu um mangá politicamente incorreto se saiu uma comédia romântica repleta de elementos fofos que todos nós gostamos,com um pouco de ecchi também no meio mas ele te prende de tal maneira que você não consegue parar,tanto que quando terminou o anime eu devorei o mangá em dois dias.Tudo graças ao inusitado romance desse mangá que quando se dá conta fica ansioso pra ver como vai evoluir e o que vai acontecer em seguida.Dessa vez Nagatoro não trás o famoso harém de beldades de personalidade diferentes pro público escolher sua favorita e torcer por ela(e se frustrar muito como a maioria dessas obras causa),nós temos um casal fixo e certo e se você pensa que isso é chato se engana porque Nagatoro não é um romance convencional,isso porque a protagonista é um novo estereótipo de personagem que anda muito popular,as sádicas fofas como eu gosto de chamar(bom algumas são sádicas mas não fofas,elas apenas não são vilãs mesmo não sendo nada gentis como a Juri Han do Street Fighter V) e é o caso de Hayase Nagatoro. Tudo começa quando o protagonista(chamado apenas de Senpai,o anime não revela seu nome real) estava de boas na biblioteca estudando até que ele fica nervoso porque estavam lá o grupo das Gyaru(garotas que se vestem e forma provocativa e usam cabelos descoloridos muitas vezes) que estavam fofocando.ele fica nervoso pois é um nerd tímido e antissocial.Uma delas ia pegar um livro perto de sua mesa e o nervosismo acaba fazendo ele derrubar sua bolsa revelando o mangá que desenhava.As garotas viram e começaram a zoar,obviamente,porém foi breve pois elas sem pra fazer outra coisa,todas exceto uma que viu aquilo e decidiu conversar com o rapaz percebendo que ele é mais velho que ela,o chama de Senpai e percebe que ele é um reflexo do herói da história porém o Senpai nunca teria coragem de fazer um elogio a uma garota como fez com a heroína e ela começa a zoar ele,e pela extrema sensibilidade ele acaba chorando.Depois a garota estranhamente começa a querer visita-lo sempre no seu clube de artes ou depois das aulas e o questiona porque ele não reage pelas coisas que ela fez(que estavam longe de ser bullying,pra humilhar a pessoa na frente das outras) e o Senpai também percebe e não achou ruím comparado ao que já fizeram com ele no passado,pois ele sabe que a garota não pegou pesado e até deu seu lenço pra ele secar as lágrimas.Acontece que o senpai é excessivamente frágil ao extremo a garota que se apresenta como Nagatoro então começa esse inusitado relacionamento. Nagatoro gosta de ficar junto do Senpai e tirar um sarro da cara dele,mas de algum modo ela se interessou por ele e aos poucos eles aprendem a conviver e ela o ajuda a se impor,a melhorar,não ser tão antissocial,não ser sedentário entre outras coisas e com o tempo o Senpai vai percebendo que está mudando graças a ela.Mas como Nagatoro gosta de uma zuera as vezes a brincadeiras dela a colocam em situações meio delicadas onde ela fica repleta de vergonha perdendo a pose,ou quando oSenpai cria coragem pra fazer coisas do coração como elogia-la a deixando sem graça,e muitas vezes um protege o outro de situações maliciosas envolvendo outras pessoas e aí eé que ele proporciona os momentos fofinhos que deixam ambos corados que tanto gostamos nesse tipo de obra e quando percebemos que acabamos de ver tudo sentimos vontade de ver mais,é isso que Nagatoro-san proporciona,a auto ajuda da zuera e momentos fofinhos onde queremos ver o Senpai evoluir e esse romance deslanchar porque sabemos como os japoneses são,eles morrem de vergonha de romance e intimidade e demora a engrenar.Mas adoramos mesmo assim.

Hige wo Soru, mas conhecido como Higehiro(13 episódios)

Esse anime também surpreendeu.É outro título polêmico porém assim que vemos a história percebemos que não é assim.Ele conta a história de Yoshida um assalariado japonês comum que após levar um fora da chefe onde trabalha encontra uma colegial perdida que pede pra ficar na casa dele.Ela é Sayu,que fugiu de casa e passa a usar seu corpo como moeda de troca pra poder ter um teto pra dormir.Percebendo que a garota não se valoriza,Yoshida se recusa a fazer algo com ela e decide cuidar dela ensinando a dar valor a sí mesma e seguir em frente e superar o que quer que for o motivo de sua fuga.E o desenvolvimento dela e a relação dos dois é muito legal,fica claro que Sayu começa a se apaixonar porém ela não pode cruzar a linha,o cara é adulto e o anime inteligentemente sabe disso e faz tudo se apelar,quando você descobre o trauma de Sayu tudo fica mais claro o drama da personagem e assim que o anime termina fica aquela sensação de que finalizou bem. Não é uma obra de romance como muitos compraram,e por isso se decepcionaram com o final mas sim de aprendizado,aprender a valorizar a sí mesmo,de amadurecer,de respeitar os limites de uma pessoa,aprender a perdoar os erros quando Sayu perdoa a sí mesma e até a sua mãe que não age como uma.Vai deixar saudade

Sayonara Watashi no Crammer(filme + 13 episódios)

O anime de futebol do mesmo autor de Shigatsu Kimi no Uso.No entanto se você espera outra obra igual a anterior melhor baixar o hype porque a proposta de Cramer é bem diferente.ele conta a história de Onda uma garota que passou a jogar futebol por ser provocada pelos garotos e treinou pra ser boa e jogar com eles e com o tempo foi amando o esporte,porém a diferença física entre o corpo masculino e feminino ficou bem evidente na adolescência e Onda mesmo querendo jogar com os meninos acaba vendo a realidade bater a frente e se muda pra um colégio onde ela vai jogar futebol feminino que anda em decadência no país.Não se esqueça de ver o filme da série que é o episódio zero e dá todo o background da protagonista da história.Onda é habilidosa e outras garotas como Suo que é veloz e Kanade que teve uma proposta recusada de ir pra uma equipe melhor fazem parte desse time e vemos o Warabi tentando caminhar pra se tornar uma equipe de uma forma bem realista,a técnica do time era uma ex jogadora japonesa famosa já que seu trinador por motivo de seu passado não tinha mais interesse por futebol.Outra atração são as referencias a jogadores de futebol reais e táticas que realmente existem,não é um anime que vi inventar uma tática absurda e nem hiper valorizar a protagonista por ser habilidosa,E com muito humor o anime mostra o desenrolar bastante interessante e no fim elas finalmente passam a agir como uma equipe,e mesmo derrotadas encontram forças pra se restruturar e começar de novo,tudo isso sem vitimismo,apenas esforço e melhora vai fazer essas jogadoras inspirarem novas meninas e fortalecer o futebol,e a melhoria da técnica irá fazer o público se interessar como deve ser

Kyukyoku Shinka Full Dive RPG(12 episódios)

Essa definitivamente foi a comédia da temporada.O anime conta a história de Hiro um garoto viciado em VRMMORPG que é convencido pela Reona (que usa seu charme pra seduzir o rapaz)a jogar o game mais realista e difícil que existe,considerado um jogo lixo por ser exagerado demais na realidade.E ele vai jogar e descobrir que o jogo é insanamente difícil,ele tenta ser realista ao extremo,o jogador não pode sair da cidade por estar infestada de Globins esperando lá fora e Hiro na tentativa de sair acaba matando o NPC que é seu amigo no jogo,transforma sua amiga de infância numa serial killer vingativa,é perseguido pela polícia,é trapaceado por um ex jogador,é preso,acaba atraindo uma inquisidora sadomasoquista que simplesmente adora fazer ele ficar com tanto medo até urinar nas calças.Atá as quests desse jogo são malucas com ele tendo que satisfazer os fetiches sádicos de um NPC,e tudo com um humor sensacional do mesmo autor do Kono Yuusha,o herói precavido que foi destaque nos animes de 2020,sem dúvida esse anime é excelente mesmo sem ter sido licenciado oficialmente aqui.

Esse anime apesar de ser meio lento,muito focado em diálogo e não ter ação muito interessante mesmo tendo trilha do Sawano é bem interessante.El mostra o que um governo autoritário é capaz de fazer ao colocar pessoas com cor de cabelo diferentes serem segregadas de forma a não serem consideradas humanas e forçadas a lutar contra criaturas chamadas Legion pra proteger a nação,mas que na verdade são campos de extermínio pra apagar qualquer prova contra o governo e a operadora mais nova dos 86 chamada Lena acaba vendo tudo isso e ela se envolve com as pessoas dali sem pode fazer nada pra mudar o sistema.O anime adapta um volume inteiro da LN nessa primeira parte e surpreende de forma gradual nos eu desenrolar.O anime não terminou mas foi tão legal que resolvi incluir na lista.

Vivy Fluorite Eyes Song(13 episódios)

O anime original do Wit Studio trás uma qualidade gráfica excelente com bastante detalhes nos olhos e novamente fala de IAs que ganham consciência e viagens no tempo porém ele trabalha de forma inovadora.As IAS tem missão de vida designadas a ela porém 100 anos no futuro elas irão se rebelar e o programa chamado de Matsumoto tem de trabalhar junto a vivy pra impedir isso em várias época do anime com inúmeros casos envolvendo IAs com cenas de ação muito boas que lembram grandes filmes de espionagem e um desenvolvimento bem legal da Vivy e das histórias envolvendo IAs e um final bem bonito com belas canções principalmente a abertura.não é um anime memorável oou será inesquecível ou ganhar um status de clássico mas que quer uma boa história com boa ação esse anime tem isso.

Fruits Basket Final(13 episódios sendo que a série completa tem 63 no total)

Lógico que o melhor Shoujo que eu vi precisava de um final a sua altura e Furuba não decepciona resolvendo muito bem o dilema da família Souma e explorando bem os personagens como a complexa Akito que no inicio parece ser a vilã da história que torna a vida de todos os Soumas em um verdadeiro inferno mas que possui um segredo e em sua criação motivos que a fizeram agir desse jeito,se mostrando uma pessoa frágil e tão quebrada quanto os outros personagens e até ela aprende a respeitar a vontade dos outros e evoluir e isso é que o bacana de Fruits Basket,ele não �� só mais um Shoujo água com açucar,o que não é errado ser desse jeito,mas vez ou outra é preciso de obras mais profundas que mostrem que o Shoujo pode ter variedade de temáticas e idéias sem se prender só ao romance e além de dar um desfecho com revelações surpreendentes da relação de Kyo com Toru e momentos qu te levam as lágrimas principalmente com cenas bem tensas e a historia do zodíaco e como surgiram as maldiçoes.Fechou com chave de ouro esse anime fantástico e não é nenhum exagero considerar a obra como o melhor Shoujo de todos os tempos.

Outros destaques

algumas obras que valem a pena destacar é Osamake,uma comédia romântica que brinca com o clichê da amiga de infância que sempre perde,então o autor pensou: “e se todas as personagens que tem interesse amoroso no protagonista forem sua amigas de infância?” e aí surgiu essa obra que é bem divertida e cheia de momentos muito loucos que o autor cria,o anime é bem animado e dirigido.Pra quem curte Konosuba, Sentouin Hakeshimasu não é tão engraçado quanto mas teve seus bons momentos de comédia politicamente incorreta.To Your Etenety acabou não sendo o que eeu esperava mas teve uns momentos bem emocionantes,da mesma autora de Koe no Katachi sendo que ele não acabou ainda.Já as decepções foram os animes de Shaman King que é um festival de quadros estáticos,a melhor apresentação de slides que você vai ver e a última temporada de Nanatsu que infelizmente foi parar no mesmo estúdio e mesmo fazendo um trabalho melhor não entregou o desfecho que a obra que é muito boa merecia.

Damn Summer! back at it again with the awesome book playlists! I am still on vacation but I wanted to make sure that I got to share this amazing list of songs with you guys, ON RELEASE DAY!!! Psalm for Lost Girls was truly an amazing read and listening to the songs on this playlist is truly something special. Let me know if you guys decide to pick this one up!!!!

A Playlist for Lost Girls

I listen to a lot of music when I write. Sometimes, I use music to get in the right headspace before writing a new scene. Sometimes, I listen to the same song on repeat for hours. I have a playlist for every project, and even subplaylists for certain characters or subplots. (It’s a little nuts.) Some songs I listen to so much that they seep into the sentences of the story.

This Spotify playlist includes the main songs I used to get in the groove for A Psalm for Lost Girls.

[Fun fact: A Psalm for Lost Girls was not the original title. As I hunted around for a title that would stick, I wanted to evoke a song or prayer because the whole book had taken on a musical quality in my mind and, at the same time, felt like a prayer Callie might send to her sister. A psalm is both of those things—a prayer, often sung—so hurrah! Title: nailed.

1. Chica Difîcil by Aterciopelados

“I am a difficult girl/but I’m worth the trouble.” The vocalist, Andrea Echeverri, is my favorite 90s rock en español vocalist. Sometimes she is raw and angry; this tune is more salty, earthy, real. Both sides of her voice remind me of Callie da Costa, Psalm’s protagonist.

2. Girl on Fire by Alicia Keys

Callie is stubborn. When she sets her mind to avenging her sister’s memory, she puts “both feet on the ground/… /and is not backing down.” Also, fire. I’m not going to give away spoilers, but those burning candles on the cover? Relevant.

3. O Gente de Minha Terra by Mariza

Fado is the traditional music of Portugal, and Mariza is its modern queen. Her songs express the not-quite-translatable feeling of saudade—something like bittersweet longing. This particular song swells up my heart like the fictional city of New Avon: “oh, people of my land/now I see/this sadness I carry/I received from you.”

4. Wonder by Natalie Merchant

You get it? “They say I must be one of the wonders/God’s own creation/And as far as they see they can offer/no explanation.” This is exactly what Tess da Costa feels once the word gets out that she hears a strange voice and her community decides it must be the voice of God.

5. Eres Tú by Carla Morrison

These lyrics get a little bit sexy—speaking to the romance that runs through Psalm—but also? if you pretend it’s about sisterly love, this could be Callie speaking to her dead sister, telling Tess how she carries her mind and in her veins, how wherever she goes, it’s you, always you.

6. 1977 by Ana Tijoux

Ignore the lyrics. This is the sound of Callie on a warpath, seeking justice for the abducted child, Ana Langone. The energy of this song also reminds me of Callie’s best friend Karen Pérez, my favorite character to write. Basically, it’s 100% kickass girl.

7. So Sorry by Feist

This song is a piercer, getting right to the core of regret. It’s Callie remembering her final days with Tess—so many things left unsaid and the last words she wishes she could erase.

8. Fado de Pessao by Ana Moura

In this one, there’s a boat, a voice, a figure of speech… and I don’t actually know what any of it means, but the emotion!!! This is the feeling of Callie walking the streets, dreaming of Tess. And when Ana Moura wears her hair curly, she’s the spitting image of Callie and Tess’s mom.

9. When You’re Gone by the Cranberries

I’m probably not supposed to admit that I still love the Cranberries—but I do, I do! Maybe it’s the Irish in me, but Dolores O'Riordan’s voice just… slays me. She does salty-sweet-longing-rage like no one else, and that is pretty much my favorite flavor.

10. Siempre Me Quedará by Bebe

I don’t know. I just like this one. It’s got a soulful vibe with a bit of flamenco/gitano/don’t-eff-with-me flare. If you strip away the romantic bits, it’s a song about heartbreak and saying I’m still here, I won’t forget and I won’t give up. Which, well, when you meet Callie and Tess, you’ll understand…

A cultural note: You’ll notice quickly that a lot of these songs are in Spanish and Portuguese. That’s because I listen to a ton of music in both languages. But, to be clear: This playlist isn’t a match to the many cultures represented (directly and more subtly) in A Psalm for Lost Girls. (If I made a list like that, you’d definitely see some Puerto Rican, Dominican, Cape Verdean, Italian, and Lebanese representation—and, God, I love the music from those cultures too!) The songs here are more of an emotional match—like, the themes and energy I was feeling as I got into my protagonists’ skin.

Lagoa é um bairro da Zona Sul do município do Rio de Janeiro, no Brasil. Recebe este nome devido à Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas e possui o quinto maior índice de desenvolvimento humano do município.

A região ao redor da lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas era habitada, até 1575, pelos tamoios.

A partir dessa data, o governador do Rio de Janeiro Antônio Salema espalhou, ao redor da lagoa, roupas infectadas com o vírus da varíola de modo a disseminar a doença entre os tamoios e, com isso, deixar a área livre para a implantação de fazendas de cana-de-açúcar.

Com isso, nos primórdios da ocupação portuguesa da cidade do Rio de Janeiro, a área onde hoje se encontra o bairro, chamada de Jardim da Gávea, que englobava os atuais bairros da Gávea, Jardim Botânico e Lagoa, passou a ser ocupada por propriedades rurais, latifúndios onde se cultivava cana-de-açúcar.

Após a chegada da Família Real na colônia em 1808, houve a necessidade de se construir uma fábrica de pólvora para proteger a cidade de prováveis invasões francesas. A fábrica veio a ser edificada nos arredores da Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas.

Em virtude da decadência do ciclo da cana-de-açúcar, na metade do século XIX, as antigas fazendas tornaram-se chácaras. Na época, a cidade era dividida em freguesias e a ocupação residencial se intensificou quando a Rua São Clemente foi aberta e quando os bondes de burro alcançaram a Freguesia da Gávea, futura Zona Sul carioca. Uma das histórias peculiares do bairro é a da Fonte da Saudade.

Essa fonte ficava localizada no fim da primitiva praia da Lagoa. Na passagem do século XIX para o século XX, as lavadeiras portuguesas que atendiam às famílias abastadas de Botafogo se reuniam em torno da fonte lavando as roupas e compartilhando as saudades de sua terra natal.

As reformas urbanísticas realizadas a partir da gestão Pereira Passos trouxeram o saneamento básico à região. Na administração de Carlos Sampaio, houve a urbanização do bairro. Na década de 1920, o novo bairro ganhou a avenida Epitácio Pessoa, que circunda a orla da lagoa. Nela, foram construídas mansões da elite carioca, além do Jóquei Clube Brasileiro.

Nos anos 1969 e 1970, as favelas da Praia do Pinto, da Ilha das Dragas e da Catacumba, que ocupavam a região ao redor da lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, foram destruídas pelos governos federal e estadual e seus moradores foram transferidos para diversos bairros da cidade. No lugar anteriormente ocupado pelas favelas, foram erguidos prédios de luxo.

Nos anos 1970, construtoras aterraram ilegalmente a Lagoa, que perdeu 80 por cento de sua área original. Somente anos depois, houve a proibição de outras modificações na linha do espelho d’água do reservatório, além da restrição de construções na área.

Anos depois, e após muitas tentativas, a Lagoa foi parcialmente despoluída e, ao mesmo tempo, o bairro começou a ser um dos redutos da vida noturna da cidade. Em 1979, foi instalada, na lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, a estátua do Curumim, em homenagem aos antigos tamoios habitantes da região.

A população da Lagoa é de cerca de 21 200 pessoas, relativamente baixa tendo em vista a área do bairro. Isso ocorre porque a maior parte do bairro é ocupada por parques, áreas de preservação ambiental e, é claro, a própria Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas. A lagoa representa uma área de lazer muito procurada, permitindo a prática de diversos esportes, como remo e esqui-aquático, além do ciclismo pois apresenta uma ciclovia de 7,5 quilômetros de extensão em sua margem.

É um bairro majoritariamente residencial. Não há um forte comércio, como nos bairros vizinhos de Ipanema, Leblon e Copacabana. A maior parte dos estabelecimentos comercias é de restaurantes, como os quiosques na orla e outros restaurantes em ruas internas.

O bairro, em geral, é o terceiro mais valorizado do Rio de Janeiro, atrás apenas do Leblon e de Ipanema. Uma das causas dessa valorização é a escassez de terrenos para novos empreendimentos imobiliários. Nos arredores da Fonte da Saudade o metro quadrado custa aproximadamente 13 000 reais e na divisa com Ipanema custa entre 17 000 e 20 000 reais.

O Parque dos Patins é um parque localizado no bairro da Lagoa, na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, no Brasil.

Foi aberto em 1995 pelo prefeito César Maia no local onde funcionava o Tivoli Park.

Em 2010, durante o governo do prefeito Eduardo Paes, a área infantil do Parque dos Patins foi revitalizada pela Secretaria Municipal de Conservação do Rio de Janeiro. Nesta reforma: os brinquedos de concreto foram totalmente repaginados e ficaram mais ergonômicos, atraentes e seguros; de forma a aumentar a circulação e o uso, foram criadas mais aberturas no muro de pedra que circunda o parque; e foi criado um circuito de ciclovia, onde são oferecidas aulas de regras cicloviárias, ministradas por equipe da Companhia de Engenharia de Tráfego do Rio de Janeiro, para as novas gerações de ciclistas.

Lagoa RJ Skate

No início, surgiu o banks (pista em formato de cápsula), mas com a “invasão” de skatistas na quadra de vôlei que ficava ao lado, a prefeitura e a extinta Associação dos Skatistas do Rio de Janeiro decidiram construir um Skatepark de Street que, em conjunto com o Banks, tornam a pista da Lagoa um frequentadíssimo point do Skate Carioca.

i’m sitting in the centre of the city and it’s a beautiful summer’s evening. it’s nearly 8pm and the sunset is winding down around me. i’m leaning against a wall listening to some live portuguese music, and i’m tired because i haven’t been sleeping well but i am also so calm in this moment. i’ve had a lot of tension and thoughts brewing in my mind over the last couple of weeks and finally here, i feel a certain weight lifted off my shoulders. for a second i want to trust that the universe has something good in store for me. i am loving being in porto and having all the time in the world - i don’t have a return ticket back to london yet and i am free to do precisely as i want, whenever the mood should strike. i haven’t done this exactly before in europe, and i am unsurprised by how much i like it. the grass is dotted with so many young people talking and smoking, and right in front of me flows the douro river. it’s easy to forget what it’s like to just exist, and i’m savouring this moment already for a future winter’s day. i always used to think about that when i sat on arpoador, saving my saudades in advance. i love everything about this - the cobbled streets, the architecture, the mosaics, beer for two euros... i could probably make a nice life for myself here, you know. i am so grateful for all that i have, and that i am able to do this - to have the capacity to be alone too. i really am one of frank’s golden millior dollar babies in that respect. i lucked out a million.

Bruna Marquezine surpreendeu nesta quinta-feira, 13 de setembro, ao aparecer com um visual completamente diferente. A atriz apareceu loiríssima na 4ª edição do baile de gala de Rihanna, o Diamond Ball, criado para arrecadar doações para a Clara Lionel Foundation – ONG da cantora, no Cipriani Wall Street, em Nova York.

Tom Cavalcante resolveu zoar com a famosa e postou em suas redes sociais um clique no qual faz piada com Bruna Marquezine. O humorista publicou em seu Instagram uma foto usando uma peruca loira, fazendo menção ao visual que a atriz exibiu. “Ney, me liga”, legendou o humorista, se referindo a Neymar, namorado da artista.

A atriz viu a publicação, curtiu e comentou com muitas risadas. “Eu não, mas você divou”, respondeu Tom Cavalcante. Acontece que antes de ir ao evento, a atriz decidiu mostrar sua “nova aparência” para Neymar. A reação do jogador de futebol foi surpreendente e repercutiu bastante nas redes sociais. Ele ficou impressionado.

O jogador espera a amada surgir no vídeo e fica em choque quando dá de cara com uma loira. Neymar quase soltou um palavrão.
