🔎I'm now finding myself revisiting if they overlapped in Summer Jam. Goes back to my curiosity if they knew about each other beforehand. This is the one tournament they were both at for sure every single year because it was in Minnesota.
2016 9th North Tartan Summer Jam (June 17-19, 2016)

Presumably didn't know each other and played in different groups but they were in the same high school gym so who knows, maybe they did watch each other play and we wouldn't even know it.
Paige played for North Tartan 8th: https://tourneymachine.com/Public/Results/Team.aspx?IDTournament=h201510192243367598877fa9d1c264f&IDDivision=h2016060913164319278d903dffb0f4b&IDTeam=h20160404181544577d6f4d77b9cf04b

They had just won gold together with U16 on June 11, 2017 so they definitely knew each other but played in different groups. I think that first birthday post is probably from this tournament.
Paige played for North Tartan 9th and won her group: https://www.tourneymachine.com/Public/Results/Division.aspx?IDTournament=h201611041654077600663e2c3be0243&IDDivision=h20170603204648840c709f94df61d4b

"And if that wasn’t enough reason to be courtside, a head to head matchup between USA U17 National Team members Azzi Fudd and Paige Bueckers Saturday evening was worth the price of admission alone."

Played against each other with Paige's team beating Azzi's 79-66. I'm still searching for the full game. Highlights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKYqMjAf6nk
Azzi's team also played Caitlin Clark's team, beating them 63-47
Paige's team was runner up in the group. Azzi's team was 5th.
I already sent footage where Azzi was at the championship game supporting Paige. I have to imagine Paige went to Azzi's games when she could. I know I remember finding footage of Paige watching Azzi's AAU game and just can't remember where lol. I don't know if it was this tournament or another one. I think Overtime probably posted it lmao.
North Tartan Summer Jam
Has Azzi ever lost to Caitlin 🤔?
Paige watched Azzi in the AAU but I don't think it was in a tournament as old as this.

Beterbiev-Bivol will be a special one-fight broadcast from Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, LIVE on ESPN+
LONDON — WBO/WBC/IBF unified champion Artur Beterbiev and WBA ruler Dmitry Bivol met face-to-face at today's kickoff presser in London ahead of their undisputed light heavyweight showdown on Saturday, June 1, at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This battle of 175-pound Titans will stream live and exclusively on ESPN+ in the U.S. as a special one-fight broadcast. Beterbiev-Bivol will be promoted by Top Rank, Queensberry Promotions, Matchroom Boxing, World of Boxing Promotions, and Sela. Beterbiev (20-0, 20 KOs), boxing's only current world champion with a 100 percent knockout ratio, stopped Enrico Koelling in his 12th pro fight to win the IBF world title. He added the WBC championship to his collection in 2019 with a 10th-round TKO over Oleksandr Gvozdyk and captured the WBO strap in 2022 by stopping Joe Smith Jr. in two rounds. He returns after vanquishing former world champion Callum Smith in seven rounds in January. Bivol (22-0, 11 KOs) is a 10-year pro who captured the WBA interim title with a decision victory over Felix Valera in 2016. The following year, he was elevated to full champion and has since made 11 defenses with victories over the likes of Jean Pascal, Smith Jr., Sullivan Barrera, and Canelo Alvarez. Last December, Bivol fought on the historic “Day of Reckoning” card in Riyadh, shutting out British challenger Lyndon Arthur. At Monday's press conference, this is what the fighters had to say. Artur Beterbiev “I just see another belt. I’m collecting belts, and I need one more.” “I don’t know why {it’s taken so long to make this fight}. He knows better. Ask him." “We’ll see {if this is the biggest challenge}. I’m not thinking about it. I’m preparing for it. I will prepare and try to be at 100 percent.” Dmitry Bivol “When I signed a contract to be a pro boxer, I had a goal to become undisputed. Everything that I have gone through has been for that. I did it to achieve my goal. Even the fight against Canelo. It was my ticket for big fights. And now I’m happy that I will have this fight on June 1 for all the belts." “For every training camp, I think my opponent is the most dangerous opponent in the world. This helps me to be focused and serious in my training. Of course, he’s one of my most dangerous opponents. You see his record and his fights. He is powerful. It makes me more excited to fight against him because I love challenges. I love to be tested. This fight is a huge test for me." “Every person is different. Not only me. I have good skills. I just believe in my skills. I have been in boxing for 28 years. I’ve been in boxing ever since I can remember. I love this sport, and I think my experience will help me. And my mentality, skills, and camp. I believe I can be undisputed.” Todd duBoef (Top Rank President)
"I’ve always been a fan of destruction. And this guy is destruction. Every time you turn on the television, my phone would ring and friends from all over the world would call me and say, ‘Who is this monster?’ And, I think he gets better with each fight."

Canada reimposes visa requirements for Mexicans as asylum claims surge (BBC) In 2016, Canada removed visa requirements for Mexican nationals seeking asylum within its borders. On Thursday, Canada’s government reinstated that requirement, saying that an influx of people seeking asylum has pushed the country to a “breaking point.” According to the data, the number of Mexican nationals looking for asylum in Canada rose from 260 to 23,995 between 2016 and 2023—a 9,000% increase over just seven years. Many of those asylum seekers have headed to Quebec, with the province recording 60,000 new asylum seekers in the first 11 months of 2023. “The number of asylum seekers welcomed by Quebec is far too high and our services are overwhelmed,” said Christine Fréchette, the provincial immigration minister. Quebec has asked Ottawa for $1 billion CAD ($736 million USD) to help with the influx, while Mexico has expressed dissatisfaction with the country’s new policy.
Powerful storm in California and Nevada shuts interstate and dumps snow on mountains (AP) A powerful blizzard raged overnight into Saturday in the Sierra Nevada as the biggest storm of the season shut down a long stretch of Interstate-80 in California and gusty winds and heavy rain hit lower elevations, leaving tens of thousands of customers without power. Up to 10 feet (3 meters) of snow is expected in some areas. The National Weather Service in Reno said late Friday it expects the heaviest snow to arrive after midnight, continuing with blizzard conditions and blowing snow through Saturday that could reduce visibility to one-quarter mile or less. “High to extreme avalanche danger” is expected in the backcountry through Sunday evening throughout the central Sierra, including the greater Lake Tahoe area, the weather service said.
Rich Americans are ditching California and ‘taking their tax dollars with them’ (Yahoo Finance) The Golden State has lost its shine for its wealthiest residents. In 2023, California’s population dipped below 39 million, the lowest count since 2015, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Data shows the state lost 75,423 residents last year. Analysis of the approximately 750,000 people who have bid farewell to California over the last three years has revealed that thousands more high-earning, well-educated workers have left the Golden State than have moved in. This is a problem—as Joel Kotkin, a fellow at Chapman University, told the Los Angeles Times—because: “People who are leaving are taking their tax dollars with them.” California has the highest state income tax in the country. For a decade, the top income tax rate sat at 13.3%, but as of Jan. 1, the top rate was increased to an astronomical 14.4% for those earning more than $1 million. Ultra-wealthy Californians, the top 1%, typically pay between 40-50% of the state’s personal income tax revenue. And some have clearly had enough of propping up the state’s finances.
The U.S. national debt is rising by $1 trillion about every 100 days (CNBC) The debt load of the U.S. is growing at a quicker clip in recent months, increasing about $1 trillion nearly every 100 days. The nation’s debt permanently crossed over to $34 trillion on Jan. 4, after briefly crossing the mark on Dec. 29, according to data from the U.S. Department of the Treasury. It reached $33 trillion on Sept. 15, 2023, and $32 trillion on June 15, 2023, hitting this accelerated pace. Before that, the $1 trillion move higher from $31 trillion took about eight months.
War or amour? A French take. (Les Echos/France) We're making less and less love. A recent Ifop survey shows that the rate of sexual activity in France has fallen to a level not seen since 1970. Only 43% of those surveyed have sex every week, compared to 58% in 2009. The situation is even clearer for young people: more than a quarter of 18- to 24-year-olds have not had sexual intercourse in a year, five times more than in 2006. While love is on the wane, war is on the upswing. We see it close at hand, at the gates of Europe and around the Mediterranean. Every day we hear tales of barbarity that we thought were reserved for historical fiction. We're talking about it in France, where the army is preparing for the prospect of high-intensity conflict, and the state is officially organizing itself for a "war economy." The International Committee of the Red Cross tells us that more than half of millennials believe they will experience a third world war.
As Sweden joins NATO, it bids farewell to more than two centuries of neutrality (AP) Sweden’s last war ended in 1814, and when the rifles and cannons it aimed at Norway fell silent, the once-warring power would not take up arms again. For the next two centuries, Sweden embraced a policy of neutrality, refusing to take sides in wars or join any military alliance. It was a stance that kept peace at home and contributed to the country becoming a prosperous welfare state and humanitarian superpower. This remarkably long era of nonalignment is coming to a close as Sweden joins NATO. Sweden, like neighbor Finland, had long ruled out seeking NATO membership. That changed practically overnight when Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The invasion “had a shock effect on Swedish political life,” said Henrik Ekengren Oscarsson, a political scientist at the University of Goteborg. He analyzed polling data showing that support for NATO membership surged from 35% in 2021 to 64% after the invasion.
Surprisingly Weak Ukrainian Defenses Help Russian Advance (NYT) Russian forces continue to make small but rapid gains outside of the eastern Ukrainian city of Avdiivka, attributable in part to dwindling Ukrainian ammunition and declining Western aid. But there’s another reason the Kremlin’s troops are advancing in the area: poor Ukrainian defenses. Sparse, rudimentary trench lines populate the area west of Avdiivka that Ukraine is trying to defend, according to a Times review of imagery by Planet Labs, a commercial satellite company. These trench lines lack many of the additional fortifications that could help slow Russian tanks and help defend major roads and important terrain. U.S. officials said privately that it was concerning that Ukraine did not shore up its defensive lines early or well enough, and that it may now face the consequences as Russian units advance slowly but steadily beyond Avdiivka.
In a Land of Lavish Weddings, This Prenuptial Party Takes the Cake (NYT) When a member of one of India’s wealthiest families gets married, big-name guests and showstopping pomp and circumstance are nothing unusual. But it’s not every day that the invitees include royalty, business titans, Bollywood luminaries and Rihanna, for three days of a pre-wedding spectacular, months ahead of the actual ceremony. The lavish festivities that got underway on Friday for Anant Ambani, whose father heads Reliance Industries, have seized public attention. Mr. Ambani, 28, the younger son of Mukesh Ambani, will welcome the guests at a sprawling venue in the western Indian state of Gujarat, along with his fiancée, Radhika Merchant. The couple started the festivities earlier this week with a community feast: hosting thousands of people from neighboring villages and serving them Gujarati delicacies. But for the main event starting Friday night, more than 1,000 guests are expected. Notable invitees include Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg of Meta and Bob Iger of Walt Disney; present and former prime ministers of Canada, Sweden and Qatar; the king and queen of Bhutan; and Bollywood stars Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit. Among the luxurious touches planned are chartered flights for the guests and people available to iron their clothes or help apply their makeup.
As besieged Gaza grows desperate, donors drop aid from the sky (Washington Post) From above, northern Gaza might be the skeletal remains of a forgotten ancient city, the broken pieces of its bombed-out buildings scattered like handfuls of chipped teeth. But the area, which for weeks bore the brunt of the fighting in Israel’s military campaign against Hamas, is far from abandoned. Its people are facing starvation, aid workers say, and clamoring for relief. Jordanian air force pilots dropped 33 tons of medical supplies, food and other necessities on Gaza on Thursday—vital support for those it reaches, but nowhere near enough to meet the widespread need in the besieged enclave of more than 2 million people. Neither are the truckloads of aid that are entering the strip at a declining pace—and that carry dangers of their own. More than 100 people were killed in Gaza City on Thursday and 700 wounded, health officials there said, after a crowd converged on a humanitarian aid convoy. Palestinian officials and witnesses blamed Israeli gunfire; Israeli officials blamed a stampede.       “I think the airdrop is a last-resort, extraordinarily expensive way of providing assistance,” Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the principal U.N. agency for Palestinian affairs, told reporters Thursday in East Jerusalem. “I don’t think that the airdropping of food in the Gaza Strip should be the answer today. The real answer is: Open the crossings and bring convoys and medical assistance into the Gaza Strip.” “The amount of aid that’s reaching [Gaza] is not enough, whether by air or by truck,” a spokesman for the Jordanian Armed Forces said. “So any possible method that allows us to bring in aid, we resort to, to fulfill the humanitarian need.”
Can US strikes on Yemen’s Houthis be justified as ‘self-defence’? (Al Jazeera) Israel has used it as justification for the slaughter of more than 30,000 Palestinians in Gaza—with thousands more lost under the rubble and presumed dead—in under five months. And, now, the United States has used it to justify its air strikes on Houthi fighters in Yemen. The right of a sovereign state to act in self-defence, under international law, has been thrust into the spotlight in recent months as four concurrent conflicts and humanitarian crises—in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and Yemen—threaten all-out war in the Middle East. This week, however US Senator for Virginia Tim Kaine cast doubt on American claims that US-led air strikes on Houthi targets, done in retaliation for Red Sea attacks on commercial vessels the group claims are linked to Israel, constitute “self-defence”. “A narrow mission to defend US shipping, both military and commercial—that is Article 2 self-defence,” said Kaine, referring to the US Constitution. “Article 2 self-defence means you can defend US personnel, you can defend US military assets, you probably can defend US commercial ships. But the defence of other nations’ commercial ships in no way—and it’s not even close—that’s not self-defence.” US Senator for Connecticut Chris Murphy also appeared to reject Biden’s “self-defence” justification when he said: “This looks to me like war in every bit of the constitutional sense.
South Africa’s hardest job (Reuters) Dan Marokane is about to tackle the hardest job in South Africa: getting the lights back on. As CEO of state power utility Eskom, he takes on an organisation hampered by alleged coal theft and sabotage, which faces financial and technical crises. He will be working with a government shareholder that has a conflicted vision for the country’s future energy mix and is struggling to move forward on a major overhaul of its electricity supply industry. As South Africa heads for national elections in May, turning Eskom around and solving a persistent power crunch could rescue Africa’s most industrialised economy from a cycle of decline. Failure would mean the country is stuck with the status quo of crippling blackouts that currently cut off electricity for everything from homes and businesses to traffic lights and hospitals for up to 10 hours every day.
The Rise of the Do-Nothing Vacation (WSJ) The pendulum is swinging away from jam-packed trips and Instagram-worthy adventures and toward vacations with little to write home about beyond a pretty sunset and a cold drink. More vacationers say they want a true break to rest and recharge during their time off. Their do-nothing vacations have no schedule. These aren’t beach trips that involve surfing or kayaking, or foodie tours requiring hours of research—and decision fatigue. “Rest and relaxation” jumped ahead of having “a fun time” and spending “time with immediate family” as the main motivator for leisure travel, according to a February survey of 1,000 U.S. travelers.

A composer of film and television music, Debbie Wiseman is also known as an educator and on-air personality. Her music has been nominated for several awards, notching a few wins. She is also a regular guest conductor with orchestras throughout Britain. Debbie Wiseman Wiseman was born in London on May 10, 1963, and began composing music at the age of eight. She went on to attend the Trinity College of Music's Junior Department, and after finishing her time there, she studied piano and composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Upon completion of her studies, she quickly landed a job for a Channel 4 documentary, which launched her career as a composer for the big and small screens. She is a regular contributor on BBC Radio 3 and 4. At the early age of seven, Debbie began learning to play the piano. The first time her mother saw Debbie playing the piano in the hotel parlor was during a family vacation, while the other kids were all splashing around in the lake. Due to the family's purchase of a piano, Debbie quickly advanced through the grades. She started working as a Saturday exhibitioner at Trinity College of Music, where talented kids up to age 16 spend their Saturday mornings learning theory, performing in chamber ensembles, and generally receiving a more thorough music education than is possible in the classroom. Debbie received an MBE for services to the music and film industries in the Queen's New Year's Honors list in 2004. She received honorary fellowships from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Trinity College of Music, both of which she attended, as well as an honorary doctorate from the University of Sussex. When Debbie led her movement of New Water Music aboard The Georgian barge in June 2012, she was one of the 11 composers selected to provide music for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Pageant. She was given the task of writing the overture and finale for the Queen's 90th birthday celebration in 2016. As the station's resident composer since 2016, Debbie has created and produced a number of CDs for Classic FM. The Glorious Garden, a collaboration with gardener, author, and broadcaster Alan Titchmarsh, was the follow-up album to The Musical Zodiac, which was published in 2016, and it spent three weeks atop the UK Classical Chart. Debbie's four entries—Wilde, Wolf Hall, The Mythos Suite, and The Glorious Garden—made her the most well-known British composer still active in 2021, according to Classic FM's Hall of Fame. With narration by Helen Mirren and Damian Lewis, Wiseman's album "The Music of Kings and Queens," released in June 2021 to commemorate the Queen's 95th birthday, immediately debuted at the top of the UK Classical charts. With seven entries—Wolf Hall, Shakespeare and Hathaway, Wilde, The Musical Zodiac, The Mythos Suite, The Music of Kings and Queens, and The Glorious Garden—Debbie was selected as the most well-liked living composer in Classic FM's Hall of Fame 2022. This included the song's highest-ever position in the chart at number four.

Post-AGT Appearance 1253: Jerry Rogers WBAL fm 101.5 June 11
Last week in Nova Scotia, Canada my second cousin once removed: Byron McAlpine died following a side by side accident.  I would be at my Nevada house because it was the best option for my breathing.  My doctor would tell me not to go to the funeral or anywhere on the east coast because the smoke from the Canadian wildfires might kill me.  His funeral was Saturday.
The Reverend Pat Robertson died Thursday.  He would have started in 24th place, peaked at 19th in 2017 and died 26th.  On Friday I would have exchanged several messages with my agent and he would have agreed that I should delay an announcement and try to build suspense that he was the last name on Phillip’s list.  So I would have prepared a comment and planned to release it on Tuesday.  Then Saturday we would learn of the death of the unabomber Ted kaczynski.  He would have started at his peak position: 85th, dropped out of the top 100 in 2016 then returned to the top 100 in 2021 when bookies learned he was ailing.  (They get the news of such things quickly.)  He would have died in 96th place and my agent would have demanded a quick reply.  So I would have merged them with a message on all websites Sunday morning.  The first to quote me would be Jerry Rogers.  He hosts a talk show on WBAL fm 101.5 in Maryland.  He would quote me after the 9:30 am station break on his 7 to 10 am show.
Rogers: Welcome back to the Jerry Rogers Show, now in the final half hour on this Sunday, June 11, 2023.  I don’t know how many of you are following the career of Phil Cole, former America’s Got Talent contestant who does a one man show called Phillip and Cole’s Variety Team.  Well for years now people have been trying to guess which famous celebrity makes his character Phillip the Boston intellectual sick.  Supposedly this Phillip has been in and out of comas coinciding with good news about President Trump.  I’ve been informed that recently he’s been feeling better and performing on crutches.  So, we lost Pat Robertson Thursday and unabomber Ted Kaczynski yesterday.  Could either of them be the mystery name.  Well, he just released this tweet:
PBC: We don’t know why anyone thought Pat Robertson was the last name on Phillip’s list, maybe because he was on tv too much and said strange things.  Maybe someone thought it was Ted Kaczynski for killing a lot of people.  That we understand.  No and no.
Rogers: So it wasn’t either of them.  Who is it: Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, Jane Fonda, maybe Vladimir Putin, maybe some overexposed singer or actor.  Any other good guesses and does anyone out there have a bet on the subject?

     Cool-Down:
Arboretum Loop
Run / Jog / Walk
Nearly everyone participated in this or in the (sorta) ROMWOD (sorta) Yoga that was going on.
Notes:
I thought that the WOD was just about the most work you could do while limiting your distance moved to the area of one 4 X 6 rubber mat.
We had really good attendance today.  Was it because everybody knew that Robert is out of town all week, or was it due to the rumor (false) that Sam D has been banned from LHCF?  Perhaps it was due to less negative reports, such as Armandos’ bringing home-made burrito’s for everyone, and Instagram-Barista-  Kayla making everyone good home-brews of coffee (both true).
The Weather-Persons are predicting rain,  yea even thunderstorms during our planned workouts tomorrow.  Fortunately the workout that is planned could be done primarily under cover, with a little cooperation.  If conditions worsen, or if the crowd gets larger, we will adjust but not cancel unless the tornado sirens are wailing.
Sunday at 0730 and at 1 PM.
Tomorrow is the 7th anniversary (June 11, 2016) of Frank, our dearest workout buddy, who expired suddenly at the beginning of our workout.  If you would care to say a few kind words we will listen while we toast with a tasty wine.  The wine toast will be a dignified affair (unlike a Thursday) and at the 1 PM session only.

HEY HELLO HI, I HATH RETURNETETH \(OoO)/ AND WITH AN UPDATE! (probably not one you all expect tho)
Unfortunately I have a teensy bit of bad news, but for good reason, let me explain:
TL;DR, the job I had gotten in February around XYY Chapter 1's release didn't really work out. And I only just started a new one this week, so it's been pretty hectic in my personal life lol, not gonna go into detail but sometimes it just be like that! XD
But because of that, I haven't had the chance to really give Chapter 5 a proper overview & edit, which every other currently released chapter has gotten and deserves imo, so Chapter 5's gonna be a bit delayed. :'(
At LATEST it'll be held until June 14th, but I have this Saturday off of work, so I'm gonna make sure I dedicate time to going over it and making sure it's how I want it to be. If you want to know why this particular chapter is gonna take a second, read the next few paragraphs at your own discretion.
Also, if this is your first exposure to my fic from the great beyond that is Tumblr, you can check out the first 4 chapters of XXY here!
(SPOILER ALERT) This chapter introduces some new characters, including two of the updated 2016 reboot villains, who I want to make sure I introduce properly. I have the tag "Updated 2016 reboot villains" or something like that on the fic and I PRAY that wasn't a turn-away for people! Most of them are minor characters, who are one-offs for an arc of chapters, but there's one or two that recur as antagonists.
A lot of older fans reading the fic might not recognize them, think they're OCs, or do know them but not fondly (XD), and I hope the changes I make to them will have readers a bit more hyped about them. In earlier drafts of the story, I wasn't going to use any of the 2016 characters, but it's a teen AU for the Puffs/Ruffs, I try not to make OCs if I don't have to, and all of the other baddies are older in age --I'd imagine some of them got other stuff going on 11 years after the events of the original show HAHAH!
I scrolled through the fan wiki as well as recalled a couple from my attempts at watching the reboot, found some newer baddies I liked conceptually and took a peek at some of their episodes, and found ✨ POTENTIAL ✨ XDDD (Also shout-out to Shadow Streak's videos covering every episode of the reboot, I still have yet to watch every single one, bless him :'D XD)
The newer characters all have general-to-major changes from the reboot, but their main character gimmicks remain intact. They're also completely separate from the way they're written in the reboot, practically different characters haha (Given I'd never write characters the way the reboot did lol, it had its moments but they were few & far between). (END SPOILER ALERT)
It's a pretty long chapter tho, and considering it's in Boom's POV I'm happy I could give him a big chapter length since he's one of the more difficult POVs for me to write (aka not one of the Reds LMAO they're so easy for me to write for dgvvdfvdcsc).
Big apologies for not dropping it tonight or updating sooner! I didn't think the new job would tire me out so much, and I've been doing a ton of unrelated things in the background that have kept me busy as a bee. :')
Like I said, the latest this chapter will release is next Wednesday on the 14th, but may release sooner depending on my time schedule. This will not affect updates for Chapters 6 & 7, which will still be released on the 7ths of July and August respectively.
Thanks for all of your support 🙏 See you soon, stay hydrated, and have a wonderful day or night!

Saturday May 27th I’ll be back at Condotto Spazio Arte in Modena. I am showing for the first time little precious t treasures I got down on painting after they got stuck first in my eyes.
It’s a journey between Italy and the USA made out of bruhes and spatulas.
Tumblr media
Painting it is these days an anachronistic and meaninglessness art that still made worth it the hassle of living any time I get it done right.
Colors are words that speak about my deepest and true emotions
The exhibition will be on ‘til June 11th in Modena, via Rismondi 55/a @ Galleria Condotto.
Tumblr media
Probably this will be my last and only appearance this year, I am kind of busy on drums with i Melt as you know, I am trying to keeping it real since 1977
