A SHORT GLOSSARY OF TERMS, NAMES, ETC. these may often be mentioned by me or io. anything in here is considered canonical to io’s lore and can be disregarded if they clash with other lore. not alphabetical, but organized to keep relevant things together.
THE HOUNDS. a group of supernatural hunters that has been operating since 383 C.E. they are led by col salvienus, and have major footholds in six continents. main headquarters are located in france.
COL SALVIENUS. io’s son and the leader of the hounds, as well as CEO to venator shipping company. io and col are no longer on good terms, and have not been for centuries. col believes that io is dangerous and should be killed. he wavers from this path a lot, but always finds it again. he is not redeemable, and sees himself as a hero.
VENATOR SHIPPING COMPANY. the oldest shipping company in the world, and created by col. he is the current CEO. azzy is his COO.
AKA ELIJAH ‘AZZY’ ARAKAKI. publicly, azzy is the staggeringly young COO of venator shipping company. privately, he is a supernatural hunter who is second-in-command to col salvienus. while he handles a lot of the behind the scenes work, azzy is not afraid to get his hands dirty and hunt. despite being human, he is very good at holding his own against a wide variety of supernatural threats.
AKA SASKIA ROSCA. the hounds do not keep many nonhumans within their ranks, as col often uses any opportunity he can to get permanently get rid of them. saskia is one of the few, and is kept around because she’s a decently powerful witch who specializes in the trapping and siphoning of other’s magic. part of azzy's carefully selected group of hounds.
WQX 1440 BOSTON. an AM radio station with special operate-at-night privileges (clear channel). WQX boston is a herald for supernatural news around the world, and this news is only available starting at 11 PM EST. the host is very good at gathering information on supernatural events, people, and hunters. scarily good, to the point that they often tip nonhumans off about hunters who might be getting close to them. after iovita, WQX boston’s host is the hounds ‘most wanted.’
EDEN. the nighttime host of WQX boston. not much is known about them.
QUASAR, ORION, and MARS. the daytime hosts of WQX boston. not much is known about them, either.
NO ENTRY. a private, supernatural-only club in los angeles. it is very hard to get an invite, as the owner only offers a limited number once or twice a year. each prospective patron must be thoroughly vetted beforehand, and are on probation within the club for a year. any funny business results in a lifetime ban, at best. death, at worst (thanks, bartenders).
LOUIS RUSSEL. the owner of no entry. he was once a low-level witch, but was turned into a vampire. the interesting combo has made him crave both the blood and magic of others. he rarely leaves no entry out of fear.
ARKADY DERNOV AND OLEANDER 'OLLIE' KING. the bartenders of no entry. both are shapeshifters.
VENADEUS VIII. iovita’s biological father (this is unknown to them). he is a cult god of violent magic, and is known to be as cruel as he is uncaring. as dictated by his bloodline and the venadeus before him (and the venadeus before her, and so on) he is desperate for io to die and become venadeus ix.
LATONA. a witch who is just as powerful as iovita, but uses her power mostly for healing. she’s ~200 years older than iovita, and was born in roman africa. when she was married, her husband was cruel. latona created the magic to shapeshift herself into a hyena and kill him. since she still retains this secondary form, she has been known as bonebreaker in some places. found family (sister) when it comes to her relationship with io.
VESNIA. roman witch and mutual friend of both latona and iovita. iovita and her share a mutual interest in poisons, toxins, and mixing them with magic. she runs a permanent shop in boston - iovita will sometimes refer people to her and vice versa. her and latona have been mutually interested in each other for centuries but haven't acted on it, which never fails to exasperate io beyond belief.
SABINA AMADIO. io’s biological half-sister. there is currently no knowledge on her current status - iovita doesn’t even know if she’s alive or dead. all the know is that they left her behind when they ran from home, and they feel guilt about it every day.
CELAENA and GAIUS. mater and pater, if referred to by io. long deceased. celaena is io's birth mother, and gaius is their non-biological father. due to their status as low-level magic users, they latched onto io's significant well of power when they were young, and greedily used it for their own gain.
LUCIUS SALVIENUS. col’s father and once iovita’s husband. col murdered him a long time ago and took over the group of hunters that lucius had led. lucius was more focused on peace through peaceful means. col is also focused on peace, through violent means.
WILL HOWE. another one of iovita’s past lovers. he was, most notably, a painter, and turned to it often as a form of coping. he died at sea.
AVICE GRIFFON and THE GRIFFON FAMILY. the griffons are a renowned family of witches living in england. avice griffon, in particular, is an ex of iovita’s. their relationship did not work, and both parties have very different stories about how it ended. iovita’s is the correct one, but avice’s family only heard her side, and subsequently loathes iovita.
LUCREZIA. iovita's first familiar. she's a large (~20lb) maine coon with an attitude to match. much smarter than the average cat, she acts both as a magic sink for io's excess magic and also a good representative of io's trust in a person. if io trusts someone, lucrezia will be much more affectionate with them. she's a silver classic tabby tortoiseshell - patched in silver and orange with swirling tabby markings.
ISSA. iovita's second familiar. she also acts as a magic sink for io's excess magic. she's still fairly new to the shop. a slender black borzoi who barely ever shows emotion, and is always, always watching. she's much smarter than the average dog and it shows in just how unsettling she can be.
#⌜❝ 𝙸. we are never what we intend or envision. ⟩⟩#𝙼𝙰𝙸𝙽 𝙰𝙱𝙾𝚄𝚃. and if you make it out alive hold that bloody head up high.❞ ⌟#i had. a really weird time trying to post this

Shortland Street's Queer Women in 2022
We finished 2021 with an unexpected kiss between Samira and Francesca, plus two ongoing f/f relationships, and then 2022 turned out to be an absolute rollercoaster.
The new relationship between Samira and Francesca was very popular and absolutely lovely - and then went downhill very fast, as Francesca pushed too hard, then left the show. Samira immediately decided Marty was the love of her life instead, then promptly left the show without him.
Dawn tried to set Louis up with cosplayer Demelza but instead she kissed Dawn. Dawn was very flattered and is never good at saying no to people, but had to tell her she had been down that path before and it was not for her. Demelza turned out to be an ex of Maeve's (pre-Saskia) that she had a bad break up with which Maeve was apparently still harbouring a lot of anger over. I'm sorry Demelza didn't hang around after that.
Rosalyn left Leanne for a man who grew flowers; Rosalyn's side of the breakup all happened off screen. Leanne didn't swear off women forever (which would have been within character) but she did sleep with newly married Damo and then got involved with an evangelical church which would have drastic repercussions down the line. She did quit the church when her closest friend there proved homophobic, in time to prevent them fleecing her of all her money, so well done Leanne. Not sure if she'll get a girlfriend again but she has evolved a bit. Still trying to run Nicole's life though. And then at the end of the year Ros showed up for a funeral.
Nicole and Maeve have had a difficult year of never quite being on the same page, struggling with intimacy and whether the other really wants them. Which culminated in Maeve suggesting a threesome with a woman who had been flirting with Nicole because she thought that might make things better with Nicole. Nicole was not pleased but later trying to initiate a threesome with a man they worked with which Maeve said yes to but then freaked out about, and shortly after that Nicole decided their relationship had become too hard and asked Maeve to leave. Maeve did not take this well, got drunk a bunch and kissed Harper once. And then someone from Brightshine church killed Wilder, which briefly brought them back together in their grief, the year ended with them loosely together, Nicole obviously not happy about it, and Nicole was last seen in the IV as it burned down. Cliffhanger! On the one hand that's three f/f couples that have broken up on Shortland Street this year. On the other, that's a soap record, because no other soap has three unrelated (or overrelated) wlw couples to break up.
Saskia also returned for one episode for Wilder's funeral (not surprising - Amanda Tito had been doing some directing - including directing the episode where Nicole and Maeve first broke up).
Young Billy is still not quite up to full dialogue scenes, but has become more vocal with the addition of Marley, and there was a nice storyline where Marley wanted to wear a blue Frozen dress for Halloween to match Billy's princess dress. After Marley came home from school angry at being laughed at for wearing it to the school Halloween Drew also dressed in a dress to go trick or treating, leading to drama with a friend's parent who had unnecessary opinions. And Billy ended the year with a full sentence of dialogue!
In other news in November new doctor Gia Te Arakura was introduced when Jack employed her as a locum. Gia was avoiding meeting TK who had recently found out that the older child he was estranged from was dead, and it quickly became clear that Gia was that child, who had transitioned. And had also become a fully fledged doctor in the five years since she last appeared on the show as a teenager focused on rowing - we could solve the country's health worker shortage if we used Shortland Street's sped up training methods! Gia is played by trans actress Awa Puna.
So yes, a year with lots of ups and downs for the fans. Shortland Street is back from hiatus on Monday, it'll be interesting to see where they go this year.

9 and 14!
Saskia-Robin
hiii thanks for asking!!! the ones i think that would fit in these were j.in and o.rion so i'll answer for them!
9. if your f/o has been represented in more than one way (i.e. in a book AND a movie, in a movie and then recasted for a reboot later, etc.), which version of them is your favorite?
hmm... since we see jin in two different animes (???? like one is a spin-off of another and happens 2~3?? years after it) i chose him for this one
i like both 😭😭😭but i choose the kinpri one (second image) not only because i find him very pretty there but also because it's when he starts to feel remorse for the things he did in the past and it makes him even more interesting (esp when he starts treating louis as his child and we can see his need to take care/be loved by someone)
14. what’s your favorite outfit your f/o has ever worn?
now i'll answer with orion because he has enough outfits for me to choose a favorite but anyway.
THIS!!! ONE!!!!!
he looks so fancy here and it suits him so well i'm gonna explode
i also really REALLY like his christmas one!! i like everything about it but especially this thing wrapped around his horn

FULL ARTICLE ON EUPHORIAZINE
By Saskia Postema 26.4.2024
Mere days after winning “Artist of the Year” at the inaugural Northern Music Awards, Louis Tomlinson is celebrating the only way he knows how – by giving back. Tomlinson just dropped a surprise album, which includes a curated list of live performances over the past years. It’s a risky move, as live albums are notoriously difficult to make worthwhile. But there’s no doubt about it: Tomlinson is deserving of that award, and the recordings on Louis Tomlinson: LIVE deserve to live forever.
After an initial stop-start to his solo career, Tomlinson has certainly flourished since finally getting to hit the stage. He’s been touring extensively over the past few years, performing a mix of tracks from his first two albums. Both were solid records that heavily referenced anthemic, rich sonic soundscapes. In fact, Tomlinson previously admitted that he wrote certain tracks with a live show in mind. Indeed, songs like “Face The Music,” “Out Of My System” and “The Greatest,” from his No. 1 selling album Faith in the Future, absolutely benefit from the live instrumentals compared to their studio versions.
It isn’t often that live performances consistently seem to not only live up to but objectively improve the perfectly engineered studio recordings. Perhaps it’s the love that the album so clearly captures for live music that does it. The singer-songwriter is an avid fan of his own fans and gets to share a collective experience of joy with them. Just listen to the crowds serenading Tomlinson in return during “Chicago,” recorded live in – you guessed it, Chicago. From Tomlinson’s perspective, audiences across the world have always been part of breathing life into these live recordings. Now, people get to live that same experience with him by listening to this record that is woven together with impeccably mixed joyful screaming in the background.
Tomlinson’s storytelling isn’t hindered by the crowd’s reaction. Rather, it is bolstered by it. In both power ballads like “Common People” as well as raucous tracks like “Silver Tongues.” The live setting seems to function almost akin to a prism – each song shining brighter, richer, fuller. Perhaps the only track that is tighter in the original version, is the seductive “Written All Over Your Face.” Nonetheless, the instrumental break and palpable, wild excitement make for an enjoyable listen.
Similarly, right in the middle of the highly addictive “All This Time/We Are Beauty” mash-up, a fan can be heard screaming “I love you” if you listen closely. The sheer adulation of the crowd is decidedly earned. Tomlinson has worked hard to prove himself, despite never having lacked the talent. Perhaps merely the confidence that he could do it, would do it, has done it. Nevertheless, he’s been open about the tension between his own love for music, and his at times debilitating need for perfection. As he’s settled into his career, a quiet undertone of determination and grit, of relief and fulfillment – of gratitude remains in every single show.
On “Saturdays,” you can actually hear Tomlinson mumble that the view’s never been better from where he’s stood on stage. It’s a high-maintenance track with all the right ingredients for a Tomlinson classic. There’s confessional lyricism, emotive delivery, and a gradual yet powerful crescendo in musical arrangement. It needs to be sung with conviction, and it’s clear that Tomlinson pulls power from the audience to deliver.
Notably, none of the covers that Tomlinson frequently incorporates in his concerts made it onto this live album. With that in mind, perhaps this release signals that Tomlinson has finally embraced his own artistry. Because if anything, Louis Tomlinson: LIVE is a reckless celebration record. An ode to joy, the synergy between artist and audience, and the impact of well-timed, flawlessly executed live guitar solos.

“Nothing wakes you up like waking up alone” is how Louis Tomlinson starts off the title track of his debut album Walls, which is set for release January 31st. It’s jarring and raw, a sentiment we can all relate to on our worst days, but rather wouldn’t ever admit to or try and put words to it. Yet it’s this style of simple, yet elegant lyricism that sneaks up on your heart before squeezing it dry that has become so characteristic of Tomlinson’s solo material.
Arguably the most underrated member of One Direction, Louis Tomlinson has made it his mission to craft evocative songs that drip with meaning for his first body of solo work. With every single release so far, it’s as if Tomlinson is showing previously hidden (or perhaps underestimated) sides of his genius to the world. Where “Kill My Mind” was a punchy rock song, “We Made It” a mellow indie track, and “Don’t Let It Break Your Heart” more of an 80s rock-pop anthem, “Walls” is a soaring strings-led power ballad that draws on the best of the Britpop heydays.
Speaking of the inclusion of an actual orchestra in the recording process, Tomlinson admits he’s a bit of a “romantic” when it comes to that experience. “It really hit home when I was in the studio to hear the strings being recorded. There must have been 25 musicians in there, all for my song. It was a proper tear-jerking moment already and I’ve never felt a shiver like it.”
The song starts out rather somber, as Tomlinson laments in melancholy about someone who left him behind. However, as the music builds and the strings section becomes more prominent, the lyrics emphasize his ability to survive – his resilience through it all: “These high walls, they came up short // Now I stand taller than them all // These high walls never broke my soul.” He’s come out the other end stronger, despite any of the obstacles that life and love may have thrown at him over the years.
As much as Tomlinson likes to refer to himself as a conversational writer, “Walls” shows that he fares just as well mixing metaphors into his narrative-rich lyrics. Unique to his writing is his uncanny ability to capture vulnerability – something that not many male artists are able or even willing to do – and lay himself bare. It’s his humanity and his heart that comes through in each of his songs, but shine even more so in “Walls”.
The introspective nature of lyrics like “for every question why / You were my because” reflect his desire to dig a little deeper than your average pop song. In the bridge, he even takes a page out of Ariana Grande’s “Thank U, Next” book, and thanks someone for what they did to him. It only serves to highlight once more this overarching concept of allowing yourself to undergo the full spectrum of emotions, including all the pain and hurt, before growing and moving past it.
Perhaps that’s why “Walls” ends the same as it begins. It’s him making peace with the past, and moving forward as well – recognizing that it’s better to have loved and lost than to have never even tried at all.
If you want to hear an anthem that allows you to feel sorry for yourself, yet simultaneously motivate you to keep going and to stay strong – listen to “Walls” here.

new additions — louis russel, the no entry bar, and his two closest confidants:
found in los angeles, the entrance to no entry is hard to find, but once found, is a private place for anyone nonhuman. humans are usually turned away in advance via magic — spells that make them turn away for one reason or another ( it depends on the person. some might forget what they were doing, others may get distracted by something across the street ). very few have the strength of will to push past that magic. accidental humans who somehow make it through get quickly turned back.
louis is a vampire, turned in 1926. he was originally a tier-one magic user, and the unfortunate combination means he needs both the blood and magic of others to survive.
he started no entry during prohibition, before he was turned, and when prohibition was lifted, kept the club around as a place for nonhumans specifically. he quickly became well-known, not only for the place itself, but because of everything else that goes on in that place. louis turns a blind eye on anything shady, but rest assured, he always knows exactly what goes on in his bar.
no entry isn’t small — it’s four stories up and a basement down below. the bar is on the first floor, a sitting area on the second, and living areas on the top two floors. the basement is for underground fighting ( keith has fought here ).
louis very, very rarely leaves no entry. he has piss-poor luck on the outside, and since being turned has left no entry a whopping four times. instead, he has a well-established network of info-gatherers in the form of shapeshifters, particularly shapeshifters who have small or otherwise unassuming forms (dogs, cats, mice, songbirds, gulls, etc.).
he hoards information. sits on it like a dragon. he rarely gives it away for free, but he will swap information for information.
arkady is one of his shifters, who often appears in the form of a borzoi, posing as louis’s pet and collecting information from inside the bar. he is an established shifter, and can also take the form of a bull moose, which is significantly less unassuming but valuably dangerous. he does not expect any additional forms to be added to his repertoire.
he’s often found in borzoi form, and is incredibly comfortable in it. sometimes, however, he works the bar in human form. very few people know that he is also louis’s ‘pet’ borzoi. iovita, notably, is one of those few.
saskia is another of louis’s shifters, who leaves no entry more frequently in order to keep the rest of the shifters in line. she’s also an established shifter, and can take the form of an american mink and a long-eared owl. she’s highly expecting the addition of a third.
it should be noted that oleander was briefly one of louis’s info-gatherers. they needed money for college, and he pays handsomely. sometimes if they want a little extra cash, they reach out to either him or saskia, but very animatedly refuse to do anything dangerous.
