This book was fucking wild.
Are you interested in a tale about a repressed lesbian who goes feral, joins a sexcult, kills her sexcult leader when he wants her and her lesbian lover to engage in a horrendous sexual act, and then runs away with her lover and joins what can be compared to as a lesbian biker gang? Yes? Then this is the book for you!
And if you're thinking that's a spoiler, then, let me assure you, it isn't. So much shit happens before we even get to the lesbian part. Shit hits the fan and never comes down. It's somehow a novella, too. I don't know how Kolesnik fit so much into 114 pages.
Read it and get back to me on your thoughts because holy hell.

Four Continents 2025 squee post! Things I loved this year, from all disciplines:
The women:
Alysa Liu!! I'm just so glad she's back, and better than she's ever been. I adore her short program, it's my absolute favorite short program of the season, maybe my favorite program entirely this whole year. There's such a beautiful calm and grace to it, everything about it is just right. There's not a movement that doesn't fit perfectly, not a moment that isn't picture perfect. She's really living every note of that music with her whole heart, and I just about cry whenever I see it. That's what great skating looks like!!! It's a shame about doubling that one jump in the freeskate, because I think she could have made the podium if she hadn't, but no matter what the result, I'm so happy we get to watch her again.
I really love Rino Matsuike and Mone Chiba, and I'm so sad they had a rough time of it here. Both of them have such beautiful skating skills- just watching them glide on an edge is mesmerizing. Bradie Tennell and Sarah Everhardt skated clean, so I'm fine with them making the podium, but I'm surprised it wasn't at least a little closer, since Rino and Mone should have had way higher components scores, even with their falls. They're two of the best out there!!
Wakaba Higuchi was great too, I love that she's really made a comeback this year. Even if her result here wasn't stellar, she fought for that freeskate like a badass.
I really liked Sofia Samodelkina. I'd never seen her before, and I hope we see her again after the great skates she had here.
Really happy for Haein Lee doing good here after the lackluster season she's had, I hope she manages to turn things around and get back to top form soon.
Ice Dance:
Piper and Paul's rhythm dance is so good!! So fun, and really captures the spirit of the early 60s dance styles, like it should for the theme.
I love Zingas and Kolesnik's rhythm dance- they're so energetic, and clearly having so much fun. Usually I don't like modern remixes of old songs, but they picked one that really works, and sets them apart from the many Bee Gees rhythm dances this year.
Zingas and Kolesnik also have my favorite freedance this year. I don't know why they're not getting at least slightly higher scores for it- it's so beautifully put together, and they perform the hell out of it every time I've seen it. I love that it lets them show a softer side too, which they also do beautifully. They get better every year, I'm always excited to see what they'll do next. They're my favorite American ice dance team these days, honestly.
Piper and Paul's freedance continues to grow on me (though I actually feel like it was a little better at Grand Prix final than here tbh). I usually don't love their freedances at the start of the season, but as time goes on and they develop, I always end up being like 'oh, actually I see the vision now, this is brilliant!'. I think their Whiter Shade of Pale weirdness is starting to come together, and I'm shocked and pleased that the judges here appreciated it and gave them the gold. They really have fantastic skating skills and I'm so glad they're finally being recognized and rewarded for it.
I sadly do not like either of Maddie and Evan's competitive programs this year, but their exhibition program is one of the best programs they've ever done. Obviously they can't use it in competition because of the prop, but I'd love to see them do something lyrical and heartfelt and lovely like it in competition next season.
The men:
Mikhail Shaidorov has the weirdest music choice for his freeskate I have ever heard- who transitions from Moonlight Sonata into Take on Me?!- but he's obviously a technically gifted skater, and he really slayed here. It must be extra meaningful for him to be the first skater from Kazakhstan to win Four Continents since Denis Ten. He just seems like a nice kid, I'm really happy for him.
So so happy to see Jimmy Ma finally put it all together! His face when he realized he medaled was priceless lol. There's something extra satisfying about seeing someone who's been around forever finally reach their potential in competition. And he brought photos of the skaters from his club who were lost in the crash to the kiss and cry with him, it's beautiful to see him keeping them in his heart and letting the world know how much they're missed. It's so wonderful that he's been able to get that bronze medal and give the Boston Skating Club something to celebrate amidst the mourning.
Donovan Carillo is always one of my favorites to watch, no matter how he does in the standings. He has such a fun vibe and brings a latin dance sensibilty to his programs that's really different from what everyone else is doing. I really enjoyed his skates here, and I'm glad they invited him to perform in the gala.
Camden Pulkinen is one of those skaters I'm still waiting on to get himself together consistently, but boy do I love to watch him skate, even if he's not perfect technically. The skating skills he has!! The way he moves so fluidly and gracefully!! And apparently he works a day job full time, which is probably why he's not consistent in competition. He obviously has the goods, but he should be training full time, not doing some desk job. The tragedy of a skater like him having to work in some office, when he can create such magic out on the ice, is one of the the most succinct arguments against the evils of capitalism that I can possibly think of. Let that man skate!!
The pairs:
Miura and Kihara were amazing, happy to see them win here! Stellato-Dudek and Deschamps weren't as amazing as I've seen them be before, but I think this will light a fire under them to come back stronger for Worlds. I'm predictiing it's gonna be those two teams fighting it out with Hase and Volodin for the title at Worlds, with maybe some Italians a dark horse for silver or bronze if any of those three have disasters. Honestly pairs is getting so good these days, the depth and quality across the world is really wonderful.
Even in the U.S., where pairs have usually been our weak spot, we have some really good teams. Efimova and Mitrofanov came out of nowhere to quicky become one of my favorites this year- I love both their programs, they're so intense and focused and precise, and bring a lot of passion to enliven music I usually can't stand- I normally hate Je Suis Malade, because it's just way too overused, but they actually make me like it when they do it. (They also remind me a lot of Gordeeva and Grinkov, who I loved when I was little.) I'm a little surprised they were down in fifth here with how good they were, but that's not bad for their first time here, by any means, and I'm excited to see what heights they can reach in the future, since they started out this strong.
Overall, there was a lot of good stuff, and it was a really good competition. So excited for Worlds next month!!

Exhibition FR-UKR Discuss #1 is an international art exhibition project which took place at Centre Culturel Ukrainien ( 22 rue de Messine, Paris ), project hosted by Irena Karpa, first secretary of Cultural Affairs of Ministry of Ukraine, we worked on this project like guest curator with Ivan Samokrutkin. The exhibition was cancelled with violence on friday 2nd of June 2017, two days after the official opening, and one week before official end as announced on Ambassade of Ukraine website. We understand this like a form of censorship. As we wait for official explanations, you can contact us by mail if you want to have details about this incident.
