After the Hela episode of What If...?, I rewatched Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings and it is exactly as delightful as I remembered it being and I really really I'm going to be pissed off if we don't get another Shang-Chi film soon. like I could give a fuck about the Kang Dynasty but I definitely want to see Shang and Katy figuring out cosmic shit with Wong.
Speaking of Wong and that tag, one of my favourite running gags continues to be Carol desperately trying to avoid being press ganged into the Avengers or even being Avengers adjacent. The whole 'Bruce has got my number,' and Bruce responding 'I do not. I do not have her number. She does this a lot.'
(I do however absolutely believe that she and King Valkyrie are low-key dating.)
And just imagining how much Kamala is going to force her to interact with the world now that she is actually moved out of her spaceship and back into the Rambeau house until Monica gets back brings me such delight and especially I would like to know when Sam is going to show up to be neighbourly.
Cos you know it is only going to take about 15 seconds before Sarah lets him know that the grapevine has already been going crazy with another Avenger in NOLA. And Carol would be like how did you even find out and Kamala be like 'that would be me I posted on Instagram I'm by the way totally managing your fan page unofficially on Instagram and I didn't post the address of your house or anything' when in fact she totally geotagged a selfie like from the backyard.
I also love that despite Jersey City being as far away from New Orleans as you can be in many ways, the Khan family has accepted Carol as one of their own and helped her unpack and probably do a bunch of stuff that she had no idea how to do like get the electricity and phone and water and gas switched over to her name so she could pay them and she's like I have no money and Nick Fury face-palming like I will get you money.
(And the whole flashback with Maria being like so you need to take the cat and she's like oh no no no no we have had this discussion as if the cat is sort of their adopted child that they share custody of which I completely understand because lemon sharks and I share custody of Flynn and thank God Flynn does not have the ability to eat an entire cargo shipment and then throw it up a week later on the carpet.)
anyway I'm going to be seriously pissed off if Monica Rambeau is just written off being in a different Earth in the multiverse and we never get to see her and Sam meet. That will make me very very angry and I would like that not to happen, and I want to have faith I really do. But I do not entirely have faith? there has been a small lack of faith. especially when The Marvels did just fine and yet is being declared a huge box office bomb when it did the same numbers as other movies that were considered modest successes. It's like not every superhero movie needs to be a gigantic tent pole movie that brings in a hundred bajillion dollars some of them are just ladies road trip movies that happened to take place in space.

Hi again Sarah! My Indian films rec list just got super long cos of all the tropes and summaries so I'm making it into a proper post I can tag you in!
While I do that, here are my top five faves from both Bollywood and Kollywood (Tamil films) respectively:
Bollywood:
- Dhoom 2 (2006); I'm actually rewatching this right now and it's a SUPER fun, campy heist movie with a great soundtrack! The whole trilogy of movies are great but this one is my fave and they can all be watched as standalones
- 3 Idiots (2009); a modern classic that most people have heard of if they are casual fans of Bollywood. It takes place in an engineering college and has a super compelling plot I can't give away too much of
- Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008); It's a love story of an arranged marriage between a shy guy and this outgoing girl who kind of hates how quiet and introverted he is. And she thinks he expects her to be a traditional Indian wife so she kind of is sad abt being married. Then she goes to take dance lessons and in an attempt to connect with his wife, he goes to the lessons in disguise as a confident guy and they fall in love!
- A Bonus Rec: If you liked Aamir Khan (the lead actor in 3 Idiots) and Anushka Sharma (the lead actress of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi), they did a really adorable sci-fi movie called PK (2014) about an alien called PK who crashes into India and befriends a human lady. It's just such love letter to humanity and I LOVED Anushka's character back storyline in that movie, it changed my life ahahha
- Teri Meri Kahaani (2012); Heads up this does star Priyanka Chopra but before she became a Hollywood weirdo 😭 and back when she was super talented!! It also stars this really cute actor called Shahid Kapoor. These two play different characters in three different timelines and it explores the concept of soulmates and Hindu reincarnation!! Again CHANGED MY LIFE!
- Ram Leela (2013) or the longer title is Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. It's basically a hotter and older M18 version of Romeo and Juliet with a happy ending if I remember correctly! It starts Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh who fell in love on set (they were friends before that) and started dating just before the movie came out! They are now happily married 🥰
This got so long already hahaha I'll send you another ask with Tamil titles once you're ready for it! But these are all the fun titles I have loved, if you want more tragic ones (I love a good tragedy and having a good cry over movies), do let me know and I'll give you that list!
amazing thank you! i'm about to head to bed but i wanted to respond and let you know i got this, you can send me that list whenever you want no pressure, but these all sound really interesting! so i'll put them on my list of movies to watch!

I chose not to count any of the minor villains from the Package Films (ex: the Wolf from Make Mine Music, the Headless Horseman from The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, etc), and there is no Real Villain in Dumbo (prejudice), Bambi ("Man"), or Lady and the Tramp (Aunt Sarah??? the rat????), hence they're omitted as well. The reason I still included Pinocchio is because half of the cast are Iconic Villains/Antagonists, so it's kinda hard NOT to count them lol.
Happy voting! ❤

LInspired by @lindsayelizabethdenton
Three ships:
Kate Fleming x Jo Davidson (on my line of duty bullshit again)
Thirteenth Doctor x Yasmin Khan (I feel Yaz’s heartbreak what can I say)
and I can’t believe I’m gonna say this but Gene Hunt x Alex Drake (I’ve been trying to write an AU for them recently and it’s launched me back into my ashes hyperfixation. Also heartbreak when you know something is never going to work but it doesn’t stop you from wanting to try)
First Ever Ship: (please don’t come for me in the notes) Applejack and Rainbow Dash from My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. (I was eleven and hadn’t realised I was gay....but interestingly enough they became a cannon couple in the final episode of the show, so eleven year old me was on to something)
Last Song: Bigger than the whole sky - Taylor Swift (makes me want to bawl my eyes out)
Last Movie: I skim-watched Wall.E today because I couldn’t stop thinking about the dance scene, but also Piglet’s Big Movie, one of my favourite films when I was a child.
Currently Reading: I have been trying to plough my way through affinity by Sarah Waters for MONTHS now and I still haven’t finished it (largely because I read before going to bed and I just start zzz-ing as soon as my head hits the pillow) but before then it was I’m glad my mom died by Janette McCurdy and the Paying Guests - Sarah Waters, both of which I’d seriously recommend.
Currently Watching: For two and a half years I’ve had people on my case telling me to watch Grey’s Anatomy and I’ve finally started it, I love dramas about blue light professionals (I mean Ashes and Mars, Chicago Fire / Med, Line of Duty, I’m obsessed) and I’m excited to see where the story goes as I’m only on series two.
Currently Consuming: Water and some Cashews bc I’m not feeling very well
Currently Craving: Nesquik Cereal but I don’t want to leave my house to go and get it because it’s very cold (-2).
I’m not going to tag, but I’m going to suggest the Ashes to Ashes mutuals for this, I feel like it’s been a minute and we’ve all gone quiet XD

I illustrated Manal Shad, a passionate and brilliant, 14 year old climate activist from Dir, Pakistan for @sojogram, for the spotlight section in their upcoming December issue ✨ It was quite inspiring and refreshing to learn about the young, vivacious Manal, who first came into the global spotlight after getting featured in Oxford Uni alum, Sarah Jehaan Khan’s short documentary titled ‘Passoon’ (پاسون) which means ‘to rise up for a cause’ in Pashto. “Passoon” won first prize at the Girls Impact the World Film Festival in 2020 — the film highlights the work of Manal Shad, a then 12-year-old climate activist speaking about deforestation in a rural, mountainous area of Pakistan. Watching a clip of Manal on social media one is struck with her presence and concern about the environment in her community. “It isn't uncommon for girls to be that vocal in cities like Lahore or Islamabad, but it is relatively rare to see a girl speaking at public forums in areas like Dir where Manal lives and where audiences are almost entirely men.” Manal began speaking out when she noticed that forests in her community were disappearing — loggers were cutting down trees and not replanting. She became concerned that deforestation of surrounding mountains was leading to flooding in towns like hers. “There used to be trees on these mountains, so the soil would absorb most of the water,” Manal says in “Passoon.” “Now they are only absorbing 10% of water. People have always lived in these areas, the issue is with our bad management of resources!” What Manal witnessed in her community is happening across Pakistan. With the highest annual deforestation rate in the world, experts fear that all forest areas in the country could be gone within the next five years. @sojogram - Sojourners is an independent, award-winning print and online magazine of faith, culture and politics, based in the US. Thank you to AD @dontcallme_candy for this great learning opportunity! Alright let's go: Kate Bishop, America Chavez, Yelena Belova, Natasha Romanoff, Wanda Maximoff, Kamala Khan, Illyana Rasputin, Emma Frost, Bobbi Morse, Jessica Jones, Layla El-Faouly, Maya Lopez, Gamora, Nebula, Mantis
That's just Marvel and it's hard with comics coz like, different authors write in different ways and some totally miss my vibe/what I think is the point. But as a rule, they're the people I look for when I'm looking for reading (and I've added MCU Layla coz she's the best). Like, I really like Gwenpool in WCA but I don't like the whole break the forth wall style of comics so have never really read her own stuff.
So I'm less lame I'll branch out into different things I like:
Amy Pond, Clara Oswald, Bill Potts, Martha Jones, Gwen Cooper, Toshiko Sato, the 13th Doctor, Yasmin Khan, Donna Noble, Missy, Sarah Jane Smith is a legend
This is still kinda lame because they're all just in Doctor Who, I must like other things? That's all just from two universes. Um.
Kimiko Miyashiro, Annie January.
I can only think of things that I've literally just been immersed in. I'm running through things I've watched recently on a ticklist and I can't remember half of them. I'm not attempting House of the Dragon, they're all terrible people. X-23 was in Deadpool and I forgot her above but now I'm going back to Marvel and I don't wanna do that.
Omg wait. How did I forget Dr Ellie Sattler from Jurassic Park, formative to my childhood development, and Lex too - but more in the film than the book. Phoebe Spengler, the kid in the new Ghostbusters films. And, yknow, all of the female Ghostbusters from the middle run that no one but me and my dad actually liked. Janine Melnitz. Kylie Griffin. Ripley from Alien. Merida from Brave. Moana. The girl hyena in fucking Lion Guard. Velma and Daphne from Scooby Doo. The badass lady who owns the coffee shop in Good Omens. Poison Ivy, because I agree with her logic but not her methods. Leslie Knope, Ann Perkins, April Ludgate, Donna Meagle from Parks and Rec. Jen from the IT Crowd. All the girls in Derry Girls. Robin and Nancy and Erica and oh my god Joyce from Stranger Things. Morgana and Gwen from Merlin.
There are so many cool women out there in media (though everything I'm thinking of I'm wading through more men than women to think of names). This is way more than fucking ten but whatever..why stop? We gotta show support for strong ladies and I love them all!
Name ten female characters you like, you get zapped if it's jsut a male character you call a babygirl or other feminine nicknames because I can't see people calling Lestat coquette again

Bat For Lashes, Barbican, London 24/06/24
A certain magic on sprite night
Bat For Lashes, aka Natasha Khan, has one of the best voices in popular music, an expansive ocean swell that lifts and suspends the listener in Barbican’s Grand Hall. Perhaps because of the prestigious venue, a plinth in the cultural stratosphere, she opts for a greatest hits show rather than a deep dive into her recent release The Dream Of Delphi. And it’s a clear success.
Close Encounters, from 2016’s The Bride, is haunting and operatic. She shakes it up with an R&B version of Daniel. Her collaboration with Beck for the third Twilight film, Let’s Get Lost is there.
The Hunger is wistful, dreamily, lazily downstream and the beautiful, plodding melody, The Wizard is Jane cliche. The bewitching, mischievous Sarah has echoes of Nick Cave in structure and tone. Letter To My Daughter is inspired by a Maya Angelou poem of the same name and a subsequent poem If You Be The Universe is a tender, acid like wonder in itself.
Khan forgets the first line of piano ballad Moon and Moon, wryly blaming ‘sprites in her memory’.
Laura Groves on keyboard and Charlotte Hatherly on guitar keep it tight throughout.
On the final encore Laura, a paen to her best friend, she sings ‘You’re more than a superstar.’ Bat For Lashes is not a superstar by the usual markers, but she strides Barbican’s stage in an elfin’s white dress with verve. And that voice, oh that voice.
