BREAKING NEWS: Konoha Transforms into a Winter Wonderland!

Citizens of Konoha woke up this morning to a holiday spectacle that could rival even the grandest festival at the Fire Daimyō’s court! Overnight, the Hidden Leaf transformed into a glittering Christmas wonderland, and no one seems to know how it happened—or more importantly, who is responsible.

Here’s what we do know:

The entire village is blanketed in a thick, pristine layer of snow, sparkling under the morning sun like diamonds. No storm warnings, no cold fronts—just an overnight miracle. Ninja magic? Most likely.

But that’s not all. Konoha has gone full-on festive with decorations that are as baffling as they are extravagant:

The Hokage Monument itself has joined in on the fun! The Shodai’s stony countenance now sports a massive Santa hat (which, mind you, looks expertly tailored).

The Nidaime has been humorously outfitted with reindeer antlers, while the Yondaime’s nose is glowing red.

And as for the Sandaime? He’s smoking a candy cane pipe with all the gravitas of a shinobi sage.

Not to be outdone, the Godaime’s face is draped in lush green garlands with red and gold accents—quite a regal touch, if we do say so ourselves.

The Hokage Tower has also undergone a festive makeover, glowing under thousands of holiday lights that change colors in a mesmerizing rhythm. If you listen closely, you can hear subtle jingles in sync with the display. Was this a Yamanaka-sponsored genjutsu, or just another day of ninja-level excellence?

And then, there’s the pièce de résistance: a 180-foot-tall Christmas tree in the heart of the market square. Its towering height and intricate decoration have left the villagers in awe. Early speculation points to Yamato-san—who else could create such a masterpiece from scratch? As for the ornaments, there’s a delicious rivalry at play:

One side of the tree is decked out entirely in pink ornaments, while the other boasts a sea of deep purples. Sources claim that Sakura Haruno and Ino Yamanaka are the culprits, their handiwork too obvious to deny. (Because, really, who else would turn holiday cheer into a competitive art project?)

The burning question remains: who orchestrated this grand display?

Rumors are swirling like snowflakes in a blizzard. Some believe it was Naruto Uzumaki who masterminded the operation, teaming up with Anko Mitarashi for maximum chaos and cheer. The pair was reportedly seen sneaking around the village last night, laden with oversized sacks that suspiciously resembled Santa’s.

Others suggest this was a Hokage-sanctioned mission to boost village morale—perhaps even funded by Kakashi Hatake himself. (A credible theory, considering his suspiciously relaxed demeanor this morning, accompanied by what appeared to be an iced peppermint latte.)

A more outrageous claim points to Lady Tsunade. After all, if anyone knows how to go big or go home, it’s the Godaime. However, when reached for comment, the Hokage Office provided a classic ninja response: a polite “No comment.”

Regardless of the mystery, one thing is certain: Konoha has never looked more magical. Children are gleefully making snowmen, shinobi are swapping candy cane-flavored ration bars, and the smell of cinnamon and roasted chestnuts wafts through the streets. Even the notoriously grumpy Morino Ibiki was spotted cracking a rare smile.

So, dear readers, grab a mug of hot cocoa and enjoy this festive phenomenon. And if you happen to spot Naruto, Anko, or anyone carrying suspiciously large amounts of mistletoe, do let us know. After all, we at Konoha Daily live to keep you informed—and entertained.

BACK TO SMALLS LIVE/MEZZROW’S (Mostly) FOR TRIOS, PART ONE

Whilst out of town for nearly a week, I watched no streams. I have a backlog and can/will do a run of trios (ahead Miki Yamanaka, Ray Gallon, and David Hazeltine at least with Simona Premazzi if she comes into the archive in time). I could wait but lacking streams also means I’ve lacked writing prompts, so let me get these first two up.

They reflect a taxonomic/natural history tendency to think relationally and look for patterns. A friend called it cluster thinking, rather than, joking (I think) that it was stereotyping. So let’s call the whole project and example of a cluster thunk with the additional cluster here about how important the drummers were.

It took a moment to get the technology back up and running so I missed MAMIKO WATANABE’s reading of the head and first solo on On Green Dolphin Street (damn, sorry to miss that) but I got the tune from Santi DeBriano’s fine but thin toned solo. But even there Rudy Royston was doing subtly nuanced embellishments on top of nuances. Not as twitchy as Ari Hoenig but at almost the same level of complexity. There’s a pattern as the first time I saw each of them was with Francois Moutin; Royston in Rudresh Mahanthappa’s Hero Trio and Hoenig in the trio also with Jean-Michel Pilc. Royston mostly colored between the lines imposed by the small room of Mezzrow’s. He certainly was the most compelling player and he had the most fun of all with the calypso lilt of McCoy Tyner’s Island Birdie. WATANABE is a perfectly respectable, solid pianist with a nice sense of tunes, picking John Hicks’ Pas de Trois too as well as a meditative ballad which gave her her best solo. Trumpeter Josh Evans was both a tasteful part of the Hicks tune and helped make WATANABE’s Atomic Space nicely free.

I saw a reminder that SULLIVAN FORTNER played a similar seemingly loose and offhand set about a year ago with Tyrone Allen and Kayvon Gordon who are frequent rhythm section partners. I’m glad to see either/both of them on a gig, though Gordon is particularly tasteful. In any case, they and their leader played without a net. Allen choosing a ballad that broke up Fortner for the complex challenge it posed for all of them. Piece of cake. The next tune started as a duet with Gordon with lots of percussive piano responding to a drummer’s showcase. Fortner knows all the tunes and is probably just a little too clever for his own good. The opener had a Monk-ish feel but didn’t resolve on a particular one. And of course I didn’t place the standards that were deconstructed and/or teased. Like last year, he was in a Santa’s/elf’s hat and there were Christmas songs, albeit from the fringes of the Great American Songbook—White Christmas, Silver Bells, and, by request, Blue Christmas, played left handed so he could sing pretty capably actually. He is a shower singer by comparison in his household. “Boo, are you here?” She was but it took a moment, but CECILE McLORIN SAVANT came out for Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas (the original lyrics, which have a dark, not merry edge, Have yourself a merry little Christmas/It may be your last/Next year we may all be living in the past). But, man, she can sing.

Drummers and special special guests to go with fine pianists, tunes, and trio work. Clusters and patterns too as I’m writing again with a couple of more rounds on this tangent.

He's never going to get used to the way Obito says his stupid name. Everyone else say it, too, but it just hasn't the same... tone to it, if that made sense. It was just a simple name. But when Obito said it, it almost sounded like a... like a compliment. Which is an incredibly stupid thought, yes. But that's what it felt like.

"Yeah, well... I'm not wearing it out in public, even if Naruto would find it being a great time and a way to lift the villagers spirits further." there was a small, amused tug at the corner of his lips. "The book, though, I... It's too much, I'm not sure I should accept it. But I'm afraid it's a bit late for that, I won't let it out of my grip now. ...How did you know?"

Mirai dropped her smile but didn't look sad, just quite serious. "I thought Santa man gave us the gifts." Shikamaru glanced down at her and thought for a second or two. Does he break the magic now or wait until she's a bit older...? Well, he's not heartless. "Yours were. I'm not a child, so he doesn't come to me. Don't think more on that, now. Ok?" he patted her head, then turning back to Obito.

"It's not close to be as personal as what you gave us––me," he felt the young lady's red eyes glaring up at him. "–what you gave me. But I figured you enjoy being around them. And you are the first person outside the Nara, Yamanaka and Akimichi clan to be as accepted by the herd as you are." Apparently more than some of them, even.

"I just thought that you might... like the idea." Shikamaru turned his gaze away, feeling pretty silly all of the sudden. Was it silly? Oh, man, it was. Shit. He should've come up with something else, anything else. A stupid... fruit basket, anything.

Crowds weren't usually his thing. Especially when in a sea full of people who were still uneasy about his freedom. Even though it was understandable, Obito preferred to stay in the back where there were the least amount of bodies to bump into and distasteful gazes to be under. Well, aside from the pair of eyes that he's grown more comfortable than he realized.

As if it were automatic, he smiled when the deer shepherd and the little overly energetic raccoon bear approached him. ❝ Happy New Year Mirai. ❞ He chuckled, amused at her physical interpretation of having the zoomies. And as fast as she was talking, Obito listened and caught every word. ❝ Sugar on top of more sugar? I know I can handle it but can you? ❞ He challenged her through the opaque information.

Directing his attention to his interest, every external muscle in him softened. Relaxed even. ❝ You too, Shikamaru. ❞ Ahh there goes his heart. Bouncing around in his ribcage like the small child currently going through their sugar rush. ❝ I guess the onesies really did give me away huh. ❞ He admitted, unfolding his arms and removing a hand from the sleeve of his simple dark grayish-blue kimono.

Although it was Mirai who spoke for him, Obito stared at Shikamaru in shock. ❝ Wha- Me? S-Seriously? I mean- that's great for him! Congrats but — mine? Is that ok with.. Are you sure...? ❞

🐗 The Yamanaka clan is one of the oldest clans, being among the very first clans to reside in the newly-founded Konohagakure village along with Uchiha, Senju and Hyūga. This is proved because despite being ninjas, members of the Yamanaka clan are also skilled Botanists who runs a flower Shop in the village, which existed since Hashirama's era.

🐗 Though not battle-type by nature, Members of the Yamanaka clan are Sensors & Telepaths with mind altering/reading/controlling abilities, making them experts at Information gathering, Tracking, Interrogation, Communication, Spying etc. Yamanaka clan techniques were one of the most widely used techniques in the Fourth Shinobi World War, especially the Mind Transfer Technique which was used to overtake Obito's control over Ten-tails twice and Mind Transmission Technique which was the only source of communication within the Alliance.

🐗 Yamanaka clan is a part of the Legendary Ino-Shika-Cho trio, the second strongest trio, along with Nara & Akimichi Clan. The 3 clans uses combination attacks in formations in such a way each member's abilities complements the others' in the best way possible with high accuracy in battles.

🐗 Members of the Yamanaka clan lead the Analysis Team of Intelligence Division and the Sensory Division of Konohagakure. With Sai now being a part of the Yamanaka clan, Konoha ANBU is also currently lead by a Yamanaka, hence the clan having a very high authority in the village.

🐗 Members of the Yamanaka clan often wear their hair in ponytails which appears to be traditional in order to be easily recognizable within the community, and earrings in order to demonstrate their representation in the Ino-Shika-Cho trio.

🐗 Yamanaka Clan was acknowledged by Tobi/Obito Uchiha in his fight against Fū Yamanaka, Members of the Kara Organization, Danzō as he chose a Yamanaka from the Root to be his bodyguard, and the God of the Shinobis Hashirama seeked aid specifically from a Yamanaka clan member in the Fourth Shinobi War.

🐗 After Inoichi Yamanaka's heroic death, Ino became his successor and took over the lead of the Yamanaka Clan in the Fourth Shinobi War. Currently in the peace era, she carries all her father's duties- continues to lead the Clan, serves as a medium of the communications across the Five Great Shinobi Nations, leads the Sensory Division and the Analysis Team of the village while also running the clan's flower shop and raising a new heir of the clan.

🐗 After Ino's marriage to Sai, Sai took over the Yamanaka surname, officially becoming a part of the Clan. Hence the Yamanaka blood now has the potential to perform Sai's exclusive Super Beast Scroll Technnique. Ino & Sai gave birth to Inojin Yamanaka, a promising heir to the Clan - who is also able to combine the sensory powers he inherited from Ino and the Super Beast Scroll he inherited from his father Sai.

Trivia: The name "Yamanaka" means "in the middle of mountains" or "in the mountain range", and Yamanaka Clan's customary prefix "Ino" is the short form for "Inoshishi" which means "Boar". It is known that wild boars are heavily associated in the mountain ranges of Japan.

The Yamanaka Crest is a Bush Clover flower which represents "A positive love who treasures bonds". Inoichi Yamanaka, the late head of the clan raised his daughter Ino Yamanaka to embody this title, and believed that she had bloomed into a beautiful Bush Clover before his death.

akamichi headcanons? (Also yamanaka)

for the akimichi:

-mongolia isn’t a concept in the narutoverse but every time i see choji i think mongolian

-throat singing (he taught shikamaru and ino how to throatsing too. i hc the nara have their own language (because their family has been in the same spot before it became konoha) that is pretty compatible with the sounds of throatsinging so shikamaru learned pretty quick. ino had a lot of trouble but she worked hard to learn it)

-can you imagine the power of akimichi throatsinging? it would be incredible

-the akimichi seem like gentle giants but they are not afraid to kill you (with such destructive techniques like theirs, it’s hard not to)

-face tattoos are standard within the clan but they have been slowly falling out of practice (chocho doesn’t have any)

-butterfly form leaves scars/marks on the back where the chakra wings sprout

for the yamanaka:

-very appearance-careful. they regulate their health pretty tightly but it often leads to body-related mental problems from a young age. ino was really bad at one point but as she grew as a person and received medical training, she healed and her lifestyle is now healthy medically and mentally

-ponytails are clan fashion (this is canon but i wanted an excuse to draw this)

-the plant aspect came from a time when they relied mostly on farming to sustain their clan

-yes they would make good therapists because they can unlock memories with their jutsu but nobody wants that, so they mostly stick to interrogation jobs

-they have a hard time using mind-transfer jutsu on their clanmates, because they are better equipped to avoid or dispel it

Non main characters/ Members of various Konohagakure clans Part 1. The Yamanaka Clan 
Santa Yamanaka (山中サンタ, Yamanaka Santa) is a jōnin from Konohagakure’s Yamanaka clan. Appearance Santa is a slim, fair-skinned man with slanted, dark eyes and very long, auburn hair which reaches well into his back. He ties it into a high ponytail. He wears the standard attire of a Konoha shinobi, inclusive of flak jacket as well as the Allied Shinobi Forces’ forehead protector. Abilities He is proficient in his clan’s technique’s displayed when he used the Mind Body Switch Technique to exchange bodies instead of just transferring his consciousness into Kakashi Hatake’s body. Even amongst the Yamanaka, Santa has been noted to be a keen sensor and can excel in battle even without the use of sight. This keen perception was put to good use during the Fourth Shinobi World War where Santa was able to switch bodies with Kakashi and position his captain’s body — through the use of the Sensing Technique — where Kakashi could land a devastating blow on the target. 
Fū Yamanaka (山中フー, Yamanaka Fū, Viz: Foo) was a shinobi from Konohagakure’s Yamanaka clan, as well as a high-ranking shinobi of the disbanded Anbu faction Root. Background In the anime, Fū was among many promising young children from various clans of Konohagakure that was personally selected and recruited by Danzō Shimura to join Root, much to the dismay of Inoichi Yamanaka. His training was directly under Danzō’s supervision. Later, already well-adjusted to the workings of Root, he was paired up with the newly recruited Torune. Despite some mild mocking on Fū’s part, he was tasked with instructing Torune with the workings of Root. Ultimately, the two formed a strong and long-standing friendship.
Personality Like all other members of the Anbu faction, Root, Fū lacks a personality due to the gruesome training regime Danzō had them undergo at a young age. As such, he acts merely as a tool that carries out Danzō’s orders. The only discernible trait that he and the other members have shown is fierce loyalty towards Danzō. As such, he was willing to face Tobi with Torune and Danzō without fear or losing his temper, or even take his own eye out, while possessing Ao’s body, calling it a “small price to pay” in order to fulfil Danzō’s orders. In the anime, as a child, he was somewhat cocky and more cheerful. Despite the teachings of Root, Fū genuinely viewed Torune as a trusted friend. 
Appearance When first introduced, Fū’s appearance was that of a regular Konoha Anbu, with a white cloak and mask. When he removed the mask, it was revealed that he was a young man with auburn coloured hair and amber eyes. He wore a short, black jacket with red straps on the shoulders like all members of Root which most likely shows allegiance to the organisation. He also wore a red short kimono under the jacket with a black sash, a pair of black gloves, dark-coloured pants, and regular shinobi sandals. His reflexes are fast enough that when Tobi reappeared, he instantly sensed him and attacked. In the anime, Fū demonstrated as a child to be skilled in taijutsu, able to skilfully deflect Torune’s attacks without being infected by his rinkaichū. As an Anbu, Fū is also versed in kenjutsu and carried a tantō, being capable of delivering quick slashes using it. Yamanaka Clan Techniques Fū is skilled in the use of the Yamanaka clan’s various techniques. Aside from his use of the common Mind Body Switch Technique Fū displayed a versatile use by combining it with his trap making skills, developing cursed seal variant that allows him to transfer his consciousness into a strange scarecrow-like puppet with kama and kuwa for limbs. He proceeded to use the scarecrow to attack Ao. Although seemingly easily defeated, Ao then found that a secondary ability similar to a cursed seal had triggered a switch of his consciousness with the scarecrow. All the while, Fū was unconscious and being carried around by his partner, Torune. 
Unnamed yamanakas In naruto shippūden pisode 363 There are two unnamed injured Yamanaka clan members that appears. I only have a screenshot of one of them. 
Possible yamanaka There’s a guy named inomatsu that once studied under the guidance of asuma sarutobi(he appears at asuma funeral in the manga)
