All PVR Inox employees to wear uniforms made with recycled PET bottles

The last nine months have observed about 1000 employees across 25 movie theatres in 20 cities wearing uniforms made from over 38,000 PET bottles. The fabric is a mixture of 65% recycled polyester and 35% cotton.

The materials used to create the uniforms’ clothing are recycled polyester, produced by recycling PET bottles that have been used. This effort would encourage the recycling of roughly 405 tonnes of PET bottles.

Many well-known faces have been a part of this initiative. The sustainability campaign was launched, and a two-minute film was also created for this campaign, which starred Bhumi Pednekar for a two-minute screen share. This sustainable campaign, named #YoutTurnToAct, was directed by Sanjeev Kumar Bijli.

Other sustainability initiatives and significant series of actions that PVR Inox have been making include:

Reducing the carbon footprint of its cinemas

Conservation of water and energy These include: Using xenon light projectors instead of laser ones Installing flow-restricting taps in the wash basins to conserve water Cutting down on water use by 70%

PVR Inox Opens Up IMAX and MX 4D Cinemas in a Six-screen Multiplex at New Delhi

After the merger between Inox and PVR, the new film exhibition entity – PVR Inox Ltd. has announced that Delhi will have a six-screen multiplex now. The location of this new multiplex is at Vishal Enclave in Rajouri Garden. And the theatre features movies in MX 4D and IMAX, two premium formats. This is the third multiplex of its kind in New Delhi. The total count of PVR Inox screens in the city stands at 97 across 25 cinemas. In a statement, Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, executive director of PVR Inox Ltd. said that they had a view to introduce the MX 4D and third IMAX format available for Delhiites and give people an out-of-home entertainment that will make their cinema-going more experiential. The company is committed to spreading the experience of the multiplex to every part of India and in each city where their presence is not heavy. This is with the intent to offer audiences easy access to a world-class experience for movie-going.

Since the merger, PVR Inox has established 58 screens in 9 cities across 9 properties. Last year in March, Inox Leisure Ltd. and PVR Ltd. board went into an all-stock merger with a network of 1,500 screens and more. The companies together became the country’s largest film exhibition entity. After the merger, the new cinemas opened will bear the brand PVR Inox. But the existing multiplex screens of the companies individually will carry on with their brands.

The merged company will be known as PVR Inox Ltd. There was a huge devastation to the economy and the film exhibition business during the pandemic. And the revenue post-merger of Inox and PVR dipped lower than Rs. 1,000 crore. This limit ensured that no approval was required by the film exhibitioners from the antitrust regulator.

PVR restarts capex cycle, plans to open about 125 screens in FY23

Leading multiplex chain operator PVR expects the movie exhibition industry to bounce back "dynamically" in FY23 and plans to open as many as 125 screens during the year, its highest ever tally in a year.

According to the company's latest annual report, PVR, which is merging with rival Inox Leisure, expects the process to be completed this fiscal.

As per the terms of the merger, its Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Bijli will be the Managing Director and Joint Managing Director Sanjeev Kumar will be the Executive Director, respectively, of the combined entity PVR INOX for a term of five years.

"Overall, business is expected to grow in the coming quarters, supported by the growth in ATP (average ticket price) and SPH (spend per head) already witnessed in Q3 & Q4 FY 2021-22, occupancy percentage reclaiming pre-COVID highs on the back of stellar content line-up, and the advertising income coming back to pre-pandemic level over the next few months," said the annual report for 2021-22.

Tribute to Sanjeev Kumar on his 83rd birth anniversary

Today is the 83rd birthday anniversary of a great actor Sanjeev Kumar, a winner of two National Film Awards and 14 Filmfare Award nominations, winning 3 of them as the Best actor and Best Supporting Actor, for his brilliant performances. His 8 films have got Shankar Jaikishan's scores with majority of them having been largely neglected, in spite of some genuinely beautiful songs. They are Shikar, Sacchai, Chanda Aur Bijli, Rivaaj, Door Nahin Manzil, Archana, Dhho Chhaon and Kaanch Ki Diwaar.

As a tribute, I am sharing this excellent Rafi-Manna Day duet from the social drama “Rivaaj”, released in 1972 and directed by T Prakash Rao with Sanjeev Kumar and Mala Sinha as the leads. The impressive lyrics “Jala do jala do.. Duniya yehi duniya hai to aag laga do...” is written by Kaifi Azmi.

It’s a beautiful, unique and situational male duet. As per the situation, Sanjeev Kumar turns into badly hatred and abhorrent person (his mind), because of devastating life tragedy and wants to burn and destroy everything in the world, including the God. On the other hand, his calm and optimistic soul confronts him in his own image, to simmer him down and show him some positivity in his life. The violent mind is represented by Rafi’s voice and the serene soul by Manna day’s voice. And to convey the whole musical dialogue between them, SJ brilliantly composed two different compositions in a single song, each having a separate mukhda, antra and interlude. Not only that, we can feel the two different emotions in both the counter compositions. Orchestration, Chorus and rhythm are excellent in SJ’s signature style throughout the song and both the singers did a fantastic job for the song.

Many might have skipped the song just by listening “Jala do jala do....”, thinking that it’s just a sad situational song, but if we listen and watch it thoroughly, we can realize how much detailed work has been done by the maestros Shankar Jaikishan for the song.

For me, the way it starts with stressful violin sections, and flows through different vocal, choral and orchestral portions, it gives a feel of some operatic scene...!

BENGALURU: Exhibition firm PVR Cinemas crossed its 100-screen milestone in Karnataka on Friday with the launch of a 5-screen multiplex in OMR Bangalore at Orion Uptown Mall on the old Madras road.

With the launch, the firm now has operates 103 screens in Karnataka, and 286 screens in Southern India. With the Friday’s opening, PVR has, so far, opened 83 screens in 2019-20, bringing its portfolio to 841 screens at 176 properties in 71 cities, the company said in a press release.
