Faruq Manzoor and A Midsummer Night's dream

I noticed Chayan Chopra's resemblance to young Robert Sean Leonard and this thought kept bothering me. I realised that the characters they portrayed (Dhruv and Neil) had a lot to do with this thought growing on me, more than mere looks.

This is about Dhruv Sanghvi ( Cla$$) and Neil Perry (Dead Poets society). Just a few parallels I found really interesting!!

Neil and Dhruv both seem to have a perfect life, from outside; only child in a perfect family, who are given everything more than they ask for, even a dream to work on; as a swimmer to enter asian games for dhruv and to be a doctor for Neil. They are said to just follow their father's orders, crudely. We see them striving hard to not to disappoint their parents; with no life in whatever they are doing. They have none in the family to let their heart out as well and both knew that they are never gonna be understood in their so called Home and had coped up to live along with it.

Dhruv goes to Hampton, Neil goes to Welton. Haha!!! In school, we see them get along with a diverse group of friends, black, white, grey and each with their own battles; but Dhruv and Neil stand out, somehow.

Neil befriending Todd and Dhruv befriending balli, with their own subtle ways, despite their friends being hostile about it; gives off same energy too.

They relish the beauty in ruins; Ismail's tomb and Dead Poets Society and it is where they discover themselves; Neil and his passion for acting, dhruv and his passion for love.

Neil says " I found it. This is it. What I want to do right now. What's really, really inside of me. I'm gonna act. For the first time in my whole life, I know what I want to do. And for the first time, I'm gonna do it! Whether my father wants me to or not. Carpe diem!". The same goes inside dhruv as well and we get to know it from " You".

We see them pursue their passion with so much joy and love, with a drive they have never felt before and this gives them the recognition they have longed for. Neil and Dhruv, now know where they belong.

On Confronting their fathers, dhruv goes in for all while neil says "nothing"; both implying the same, a final plea to be understood. However once again they are made to realise that their parents can never understand them.

Out of all the ways to understand their son even better, their parents come up with Psychiatric counselling for dhruv and Enrollment in Braden Military school for neil, to make them move on from what they love. Dhruv continues to get along with it, for he knew that he can never forget Faruq and he's gonna cherish him as " Isfahan's sky" as long as possible (btw waiting for S2). Neil on the other side, wanna cherish his passion for acting eternally and decides to rest.

India’s Enforcement Directorate probes scam linked to embezzlement fraud in Brazil

Brazil has been plagued by corruption scandals since 2014 including the famous “Operation Car Wash” in which hundreds of politicians and businessmen are being investigated for money laundering and receiving kickbacks.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) last month launched an investigation against several Indian businessmen and companies for alleged money laundering linked to a provincial governor in Brazil, who is accused of embezzling funds worth $ 161 million, officials familiar with the development said.

Based on a request from Brazil, the central anti-money laundering agency last month froze 67 bank accounts belonging to Indian businessmen and companies, the officials added, asking not to be named.

In a letter by ED to State Bank of India’s 11, Sansad Marg branch on July 13, the bank was asked to freeze the accounts of J K Tyre, Hamilton Housewares Pvt Ltd, K P Sanghvi & Sons and six more companies as “ED is investigating a case under prevention of money laundering act (PMLA)”. It asked the bank not to allow any withdrawal from the accounts without its permission. HT has reviewed the ED’s letter to SBI. Similar letters were sent to other banks across India for freezing accounts of 58 more companies last month, officials cited above said.

Responding to a plea by advocate Vijay Aggarwal on behalf of Hamilton Housewares challenging the freezing of the account, ED counsel Amit Mahajan informed the Delhi high court on Thursday that the agency has acted on Brazil’s request as there is a mutual legal agreement between the countries. ED, without sharing the name of Brazil’s provincial governor or investigation details from the South American nation, informed the high court the probe involves 53 countries and a sum of $161 million.

Chef Floyd Cardoz dies of COVID-19 in New York City

Chef Floyd Cardoz, the 59-year-old restaurateur based in the USA, has died. On March 18, Chef Cardoz had tested positive for COVID-19 at a New York hospital.

Hunger Inc, the company that runs the restaurants, said in a statement: “It is with deep sorrow that we inform you of the passing away of Chef Floyd Cardoz (59 years), Co-Founder, Hunger Inc. Hospitality, on March 25, 2020 in New Jersey, USA. He is survived by his mother Beryl, wife Barkha and sons Justin and Peter.

“Floyd tested positive for Covid 19, in USA, on March 18th and was being treated for the same at Mountainside Medical Centre, New Jersey, USA.”

The company had earlier confirmed that the restaurateur-chef had tested positive for the virus. “As a precautionary measure we have informed the Health Department in Mumbai about the same,” it said. “We are also reaching out personally to people who have interacted with him during his visit to India, so they can take necessary medical advice should they indicate any symptoms…”

Chef Cardoz was the co-owner of two successful restaurants in Mumbai – The Bombay Canteen and O Pedro and had earlier this month launched a third venture, the Bombay Sweet Shop with the same team.

The news of Chef Cardoz’s demise has stunned the culinary world. Food writer Roshni Bajaj Sanghvi who has known him for a decade said, “Chef Floyd elevated the way we looked at Indian food, both here and abroad. He showed us how Indian cuisine should be celebrated. He was a friend, a genius chef, and a warm, genuine, remarkable human being, with a sparkling personality. He will be so deeply missed.”

Gauri Devidayal, who owns The Table and Mei13 said, “Chef Floyd was a global icon in the food world and one of the first chefs to put Indian food on the world map with his restaurant, Tabla. He is someone that not just the Hunger Inc team, but everyone looked up to. His mark on the restaurant industry in both New York and Bombay was remarkable and it’s unimaginable to think he is no more because of this dreaded virus. I wish his personal and restaurant family all the strength in the world in this difficult time.”

The Mumbai-born Chef Cardoz with Goan origins had originally trained to be a biochemist. He shot to fame when he won the top honour of the television reality show, Top Chef Masters Season 3 with an upma dish with a twist. A product of IHM Dadar, Mumbai’s hotel management school, Chef Cardoz successfully ran New York’s acclaimed, Tabla restaurant for 12 years before it shut down in 2010.

Most recently he ran the popular Soho Indian restaurant, Bombay Bread Bar which was formerly known as Paowalla for three years. Food critics had called it a “magical love letter to Indian bread.”

Food writer, Aatish Nath said, “Chef Floyd Cardoz always had wry smile on his face and was quick with suggestions when it came to what to eat, at both O Pedro and Bombay Canteen. More recently, at Bombay Sweet Shop there was a sense of pride in what the team at Hunger Inc, in which he was a partner, had created. It was clear that Cardoz took pride, rightfully, in what he had built in the country and the city of his birth in addition to his legacy in New York City. He was seen as an ambassador for Indian food, which again brought him back to India on the most recent season of chef David Chang’s Netflix show, Ugly Delicious.

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Firday accused senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP, P Chidambaram of destroying evidence of meeting Indrani Mukerjea, the cofounder of INX media group. She turned approver in the INX media case in which Chidambaram is said to have misused his position as the finance minister. Solicitor general, Tushar Mehta, appearing for the CBI, said that the visitor's log of the day when P Chidambaram met Indrani Mukerjeas is missing, India Today reported. 'On investigation, it appeared that the visitor's register is missing,' he said. This was in response to Kapil Sibal, senior advocate appearing for Chidambaram. Sibal had claimed that there was no evidence of Chidambaram meeting Indrani. He also said that Indrani's husband, Peter Mukerjea, was 'not part of the delegation that met Chidambaram,' HT reported. However, in a HC hearing on Wednesday, Chidambaram denied meeting Indrani. 'Blanket, full in totality, I deny that I ever met her (Indrani) at any place,' senior advocate Manu Sanghvi, appearing for P Chidambaram-- accused in the INX media case, told Delhi High Court (HC) on Wednesday, Indian Express reported. The rebuttal from the senior Congress leader came in response to the HC judge who inquired if Chidambaram had ever met Indrani Mukerjea. Indrani Mukerjea, who claimed approver for the case, had claimed that P Chidambaram had asked the Mukerjeas "to take of his son", in a meeting which took place in Chidambaram's north block office in 2006. The CBI arrested Chidambaram under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) on August 21. After two weeks of questioning, he was sent to Tihar jail in Delhi. He moved to Delhi HC when his bail plea was rejected by the CBI special judge. nbsp;
