San Juan conducts 3rd round of Covid-19 inoculation
#PHnews: San Juan conducts 3rd round of Covid-19 inoculation
MANILA – The third round of San Juan City’s inoculation drive targeted 629 medical front-liners of public hospitals and private clinics on Tuesday.
Mayor Francis Zamora said the front-liners chose between CoronaVac and AstraZeneca jabs.
“This is my first time to attend the actual vaccination rollout. I am happy with how the first two were executed and I am glad to finally be present and see it for myself,” he said in a statement.
Previously, 1,464 medical workers from San Juan Medical Center, St. Martin de Porres Charity Hospital and Cardinal Santos Medical Center received their first doses on March 11 and 16.
In the approved Covid-19 vaccination priority list by the National Immunization Technical Advisory Group and the Department of Health-Technical Advisory Group, the inoculation must be done in the following order: A1: Front-line workers in health facilities both national and local, private and public, health professionals and non-professionals like students, nursing aides, janitors, barangay health workers, and members of the barangay emergency response team; A2: Senior citizens aged 60 years old and above; A3: Persons with comorbidities not otherwise included in the preceding categories; A4: Essential front-line personnel including uniformed personnel and those in working sectors identified by the Inter-Agency Task Force as essential during Enhanced Community Quarantine; A5: Indigent population not otherwise included in the preceding categories.
To date, 35,777 residents have expressed willingness to get vaccinated, or about 41.66 percent of the 70 percent target population equivalent to 85,000 individuals.
Amid the emergence of new Covid-19 variants in Metro Manila, Zamora urged his constituents to strictly adhere to health protocols.
“I am asking every San Juaneño to not be complacent even if the vaccine is already here. We should continue to work together and follow minimum public health standards so we can manage our cases,” Zamora said.
San Juan still has 285 active Covid-19 cases as of March 17. (PNA)

COVID-19: San Juan City’s Proactive Measure Against the Crisis By The Lokal Citizen
The municipality of San Juan is one of the biggest emerging cities when it comes to inclusive and economic growth for the past years. The said municipality was considered as a highly urbanized city that could generate up to 1 billion pesos a year, which helps the city to support their various social and development projects (PhilAtlas, n.d.). Despite these growths, San Juan City still has no assurance to be not overwhelmed by an emerging crisis especially by a novel disease - the COVID-19. In fact, last March 11, 2020, 7 out of 33 coronavirus cases in the country were from San Juan City, accumulating 21% of the total number of COVID-19 cases (Magsambol, 2020). As of date, San Juan City has declared 9 confirmed cases in their area. According to the city mayor Francis Zamora, all patients are being treated in hospitals. In the time of a pandemic enveloping the country, examining the issue of public health protection and access to healthcare is timely. Because of these, public health preparedness of the municipality should be grounded with a thorough plan especially when the public safety is at stake.
This year 2020, San Juan City received an allocation of P2.55 billion. The city government has pledged to make healthcare as one of its central priorities, appropriating P369.9 million to the San Juan Medical Center, the city’s public hospital. This amounts to P100 million more than the previous year’s budget.
Being the city with the most number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 the city has been continuously releasing statements and has done significant action to address issues with regards to the pandemic. This includes the temporary closure of malls in the city starting March 15, 2020. Only groceries, supermarkets, pharmacies, drugstores, medical services, banks and food deliveries located in San Juan City Malls shall be allowed to remain open. The city has also assured its constituents that the local government has adequate supplies of medicines, medical products and services, and food in San Juan. With enough budget to address medical concerns with regard to sanitation and disinfection, the city was able to deploy a turbo misting canon daily to ensure the safety of the people in the community and to lower the transmission of the virus.
Along with this, in every barangay, the Mayor has already sought help from the respective Barangay Captains to have misting backpacks to be able to disinfect the City’s offices, schools, daycares, and other facilities. The city, as of late, has not failed in updating its citizens and ensuring that their health and safety is the utmost priority in these trying times.
Together with the haste efforts of San Juan's local government unit (LGU) in response to the pandemic, citizens should remain calm but alert in order to maintain a harmonious mobilization of medical and sanitation aid in the entire city. Similar to the prevention done by the LGUs of other cities and as imposed by President Rodrigo Duterte, citizens are instructed to self-quarantine themselves in order to minimize the further outbreak of the virus. Citizens are encouraged to do their office or school work at home. This subsequently requires citizens to avoid unnecessary visits to crowded places where the virus could potentially spread. Furthermore, citizens should practice social responsibility taking into consideration the needs of others above selfish desires of keeping resources to themselves. These actions are important to be strictly followed by the citizens whether healthy or sick since the symptoms of the virus are sometimes asymptomatic.
On that note, it is through the citizens' feedback during this period that we can evaluate an LGU's performance. Perhaps, to engage the citizens, the LGU could include the citizens in their plan of action against COVID-19. Moreover, the citizens could be used by the LGU in disseminating information especially announcements and updates in their area. In this manner, citizens would be properly guided and informed of the situation and actions done by their LGU.
Having a steadfast government unit results in an unyielding cohort of people during this time of tribulation. However, it is not only through a government's preparedness can we observe efficiency and effectiveness in governance. Amidst chaos and panic, we tend to forget that people also need compassion and heart. Acknowledging the little yet helpful contributions of each and everyone would foster a citizenry and a government that is willing to combat this calamity together - headstrong.

Mayors’ inclusion in tier 4 of vaccine priority list lauded
#PHnews: Mayors’ inclusion in tier 4 of vaccine priority list lauded
MANILA – San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora on Saturday thanked the Department of the Interior and Local Government for approving the inclusion of mayors under Category 4 for the Covid-19 vaccination program priority list.
As front-liners on a daily basis, Zamora said they execute on the ground the policies formulated by the Inter-Agency Task Force regarding Covid-19 interventions.
“As such, we are exposed to the threat of the virus on a daily basis as well," he said in a statement.
As the vaccination campaign rolled out nationwide, Zamora volunteered to get his shots to encourage more of his constituents to do the same.
"I myself have been infected with the Covid-19 virus, though as an asymptomatic patient," he said.
Zamora said including mayors on the essential workers' list will assure unhampered services, response, and intervention for residents.
"The delivery of basic services to our people will be sustainable and will not be disrupted due to the infection of the local chief executive," he said.
Zamora urged anew residents to sign up for vaccination via http://bit.ly/39Bi7ri or visit their barangay offices for manual registration.
The city government has been conducting a house-to-house vaccine campaign to assist more residents who want to sign up.
As of March 17, San Juan already has 34,775 registrants willing to get free Covid-19 vaccines. They are about 40.72 percent of the targeted population.
Of the total, 3,456 are medical workers.
The city government eyes to inoculate at least 70 percent of the city's estimated 85,400 population. (PNA)
