#repost @javjavjavj Javier Ramírez (Los Angeles, California, USA). First image is No Pasa Nada, 2023. Acrylic, solid marker, and acrylic on canvas, 40 x 30 in. Second image is "Best Wishes". I was interested to see the canine representation in this artist's work. Thanks to @devintroy via @intersectartanddesign for the tip.

The year is 1884. John Kreese is the local sheriff and rules the San Fernando Valley with an iron hand (with the discreet help and financial backing of his old war buddy turned robber baron, Terrance Silver). He has a posse of promising young fellows working for him, the Cobras. First and foremost is his young right hand man, Johnny Lawrence, whom Kreese has trained in his methods and who is primed for his succession.
Except a stranger and his widowed mother from the rough side of New Jersey waltz into town one day, and they don’t act like the tenderfoots they’re supposed to be, East Coast and all. Daniel LaRusso (second-generation immigrant) refuses to back down when threatened and blunders straight into Kreese’s evil plans. Fortunately, he ends up making friends with Mr. Miyagi, a Japanese immigrant who fought for the Union in the Civil War. They bond over (amongst other things) being misfits and outsiders, and Mr. Miyagi teaches Daniel his family’s karate and how to shoot his opponent’s gun out of their hand lightning-quick.
At first, for young Mr. LaRusso, it’s a question of everyday survival, but it quickly becomes about exposing Kreese’s (and Silver’s) corruption, which Johnny doesn’t want to acknowledge (since Kreese practically raised him). But soon young Mr. Lawrence is going to have to make a choice: stand with his teacher and protector, or listen to LaRusso’s warnings?
Doing an art trade and I got the lovely @jossujb to draw for 💜 I ended up doing a whole western AU. Now, of the two texts, which is the title and which is the subtitle? Yes. (couldn’t choose, they both felt corny but fun, so you get to decide!)

You turned our song down, baby, what for? You had lit candles on the dashboard Red roses growing out of the door Wanna say something you never said before
We were driving down Sunset You know I love fast cars Passed by where we first met Damn, we made it so far
Red eyes from the red light And that just set the mood You say you’re obsessed with me So I took a second …and I said me too
I’m obsessed with me as much as you Say you’d die for me, I’d die for me too And if I lost you, I’d still have me, I can’t lose When you say that you’re obsessed with me, me too
I did my hair like waves on the beach This dress so tight you can’t even speak My heels so high I might get a nose bleed Music’s so loud, but I hear your heartbeat
We were driving down Sunset You know I love fast cars Passed by where we first met Damn, we made it so far
Red eyes from the red light And that just set the mood You say you’re obsessed with me So I took a second …and I said me too
I’m obsessed with me as much as you Say you’d die for me, I’d die for me too And if I lost you, I’d still have me, I can’t lose When you say that you're obsessed with me, me too
I’m obsessed with me as much as you Say you’d die for me, I’d die for me too And if I lost you, I’d still have me, I can’t lose When you say that you're obsessed with me, me too

HIIIII SORRY GOTTA CRAM IN A COUPLE LAST MINUTE SUBMISSIONS BEFORE THE END OF FEMSLASH FEBRUARY
Okay, but tbh!!! I pair this song with YasMoon because of course I do, I pair everything with YasMoon, but it could easily work for S1 Yasmine x Anyone. That girl's egotism was absolutely UNMATCHED.
This song is honestly so perfect for S1 YasMoon at its most absolutely, shamelessly, rancidly toxic, and I am feral about it. Like, Moon practically worshiped the ground Yasmine walked on--to the point she just kept doing shit she was clearly uncomfortable with to please her girlfriend best friend. Like she laughed at all Yasmine's mean jokes, even though we know Moon isn't really a mean-spirited person! She let Yasmine boot Sam out of their clique (AND her fancy red Mercedes-Benz!), even though she would've readily taken Sam back if she apologized! She sat by Yasmine and watched their ex-friend get slut-shamed by the entire cafeteria, even though she clearly disapproved! Idk, sure sounds like someone's a little bit obsessed with impressing Ms. Off-Brand Regina George. But what do I know 💅
Also, yes, I absolutely believe these girls spent their off-screen time in Season 1 going on joyrides down Sunset Boulevard, blasting every generic pop-rock song they can get their manicured hands on, wearing stilettos and slutty dresses to get one another hot and bothered, gifting each other rose bouquets, having blatant fire hazards in their cars for the "sultry vibes," and fucking nasty in the most secluded corners of Encino. Both the back of that Range Rover and the back of that Benz have seem some action, I'm sure 👀
ALSO "You know I love fast cars" dying because Yasmine canonically does??? She loves cars so fast that they ram into the prized Pontiac Firebirds of jaded, ex-karate-champion alcoholics and bash them up so bad that said alcoholics have to get towed to their ex-karate-rival's car dealership and end up restarting an evil snake dojo out of spite. Was it worth it, Yas??? Was your love of fast cars worth kick-starting a martial arts war for the soul of the San Fernando Valley???
Kind of really like how this moodboard came out D: The scarlet, orange, yellow-blonde, and Slutty Pink™️combination goes so hard for them, imo. Also matches up with the colors these lesbians loves to wear, so!!! Yasmine and Moon love their oranges and reds and pinks 🧡❤️🩷 Coincidentally, a couple of those colors feature prominently in a certain flag...
YASMOON TAG LIST LET'S GOOOOO @multifandom-lesbian09 @karatecaulfield @themasterusersblog @ficusin @gemini-sensei @elisiassideb1tch
As always, moodboard pic credits available upon request! Hopefully more YasMoon soon to come ❤️❤️❤️

The Caurita Stone and Petrogylphs
Photos by Bunty and Rory O’ Connor, and leonchin640 on Wikimedia Commons.
From Angelo Bissessarsingh’s Virtual Museum of Trinidad and Tobago:
"The Caurita Stone is situated in the Caurita Hills of the Maracas Valley, Trinidad. The etchings are said to be 1,000 to 1,500 years old and is sacred to the Indigenous People of Trinidad and Tobago.
The height and width of the stone is roughly six feet by eight feet, and drawings have been etched into the top half of its exposed surface to the front. These drawings show faintly between the growing mosses that carpet the stone. Members of the Santa Rosa Carib community view this stone as having special spiritual significance and regard it as part of their natural heritage. Some of the etchings identified depict a chief, other people in ceremonial wear and a deer. Heads are seen on simple line drawn bodies, probably representing ancestors or other spirits or shamanistic phenomena.
The stone is now revered as a key point relative to the sacred “gateways” to Trinidad’s Original People: El Tucuche to the north, El Cerro del Aripo to the east, San Fernando Hill to the south and a mountain in Venezuela’s Paria peninsula to the west.
It is agreed among Amerindian communities in Trinidad that etchings on the stone bear spiritual significance. The site of the Caurita Stone is now regarded as an important part of the ongoing quest for knowledge and understanding of Amerindian ancestral occupation and life on this island."
From the website of the National Trust of Trinidad and Tobago:
"The Caurita Petroglyph or Caurita Stone is a 6ft high by 8ft wide boulder baring carvings that were made by the First People of Trinidad. It is also the only confirmed pre-Columbian petroglyph found in Trinidad. Rock art in the form of petroglyphs (carved images) and pictographs (painted design) is found on a number of different rock surfaces throughout the Caribbean. Amerindians executed most of this substantial body of visual expression. The Caribbean contains three categories of rock art: painted images and carved designs on rock surfaces, and rock sculptures. Rock Art was executed during three broadly defined periods: the Preceramic (7500/4000-400/250 BC), the Ceramic (400/250 BC – AD 1500) and the early historic (AD 1500).
The Caurita Petroglyphs contains anthropomorphic images, ranging from minimal facial features to fully detailed head and body figures. Unenclosed, partial, or fully enclosed facial elements rendered as pits, dashes, and ovals that are interpreted as eyes and mouths make up a significant design category. Attached body forms including simple outlines, stick figures, and enclosed images in which the torso either lacks or has diverse internal design features that lack appendages or indicate enfolded arms and legs. Present on the rocks are zoomorphs, which are often rendered realistically, including a bird-like image. The Caurita stone has abstract designs including crosses, and varying arrangements of lines, circles and pits.
The Caurita Petroglyphs, located in the northern range, serves as an important spiritual place for the First Peoples or Amerindians in Trinidad, and is the largest documented rock art in Trinidad. The Santa Rosa First Peoples Community places special spiritual significance on this artefact and the surrounding area."

hello yes i am back with another ask.
do you have any ideas about how claire’s mother was raised? i assume something would’ve had to normalized being a terrible human being
Hi, yes, I do! Sorry for taking long to reply, I wanted to write this properly. This ended up a bit long, I think.
Before writing anything, I feel like I should preface with: I don't want to villainize Claire's parents (esp. her mother) to the point of them being cartoonishly evil because 1. that's not how humans work; and 2. it's boring, from a writing standpoint. I'm interested in exploring them as people + their relationship with Claire. A child doesn't attach to a parent (or any figure) just by them being, well, bad. This is true of Blair's mother, too.
Christine Murray, Claire's mother, was born in June 15th, 1966. Her parents, Ava (née Ballantine) and Blair Murray, had immigrated from Scotland to the United States a couple of years prior and had settled around the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County; which Christine would call home for most of her life. The SFV saw a postwar boom, with a huge population increase + job offers; lots of empty acres for people to build homes, too. I mention this for contextualisation: the Murrays (in Scotland) had been a working class family for many years and in the U.S. Christine's father worked himself to death for better opportunities for his wife + daughter.
Christine had an okay relationship with both her parents, if only distant. They were not in bad terms and she would say her mother was a caring woman and her father was a hardworking man; they just weren't close, and they worked all the time. They were very stuck in their ways, and were rather strict. Her mom was a midwife, her father landed a job as an insurance agent.
From a very early age, Christine developed an interest in the arts, especially acting + dancing. She was particularly drawn to Shakespeare (she fell in love with Orson Welles' Macbeth) and she would take part in her school's low-budget productions of whatever play they were putting on during that season. Her father would give her some spare money sometimes, and she used it to watch whichever film was screening in Panorama City. She was very... free. Her parents let her roam around unsupervised a lot. Not good for a 16 year old girl.
Growing up in the 70s and then the 80s, I think she watched some pretty good films. Her biggest dream was to be in the silver screen. The Red Shoes and The Way We Were were some of her favourite movies back then. I think she still likes Cabaret (which is a love she shared with Claire). Paris, Texas, too.
Christine also liked rollerblading and magazine collecting (like, teen magazines; she would trade them with her friends and cut out her favourite parts/pictures/articles and glue them to her bedroom wall and/or store it in a folder). She loooved the Carpenters. She loved thrifting clothes too.
Christine's passions were not supported by her parents, though. I don't think they did it out of malice, they just didn't "get" why their daughter was so interested in acting and movies instead of "planning her future". For them, Christine should get a good job and make her own money and be financially independent. What was she going to do when they were gone? There is no time for art. So, Christine didn't get the chance to pursue her acting career seriously and by senior year of high school she had given up on the idea. Her father dies three months after her 18th birthday. She settles with being a nurse. She gets an associate's degree.
She meets Claire's father, Werner Swanson Jr., by the end of 1987. She was a nurse in his office (he was/is a psychiatrist), so she worked under him. They get married in 1988. They were 13 years apart, not to mention the huge class + academic disparity between them. Claire is born in February 14th, 1990, when Christine is 23. She had to adapt to a new life, very quickly, while very young.
I think this is a good picture of Claire's mother. I don't want to dissect every bit because I think when put in context it all makes a lot of sense. Her unhealthy work/performance mindset, the weird relationship to food, detachment to/insufficiency with Claire, etc. When Claire shows an interest in acting, Christine decides she Must support her (whose?) dreams. She didn't get that chance, so Claire should get. But, well, life is more complicated than that. And baby Claire is, like, a person, too.
That's it... this is very long. But if you have any follow-up questions I'm happy to answer!!!
