Sam nodded silently. He took his master’s hand and bent over it. He did not kiss it, though his tears fell on it. Then he turned away, drew his sleeve over his nose, and got up, and stamped about, trying to whistle, and saying between the efforts: ‘Where’s that dratted creature?’

Missed It part 2 (Frodo x Reader)
PART 1
A/N Ok so this is skipping about a couple of months, so you and Frodo have been "dating" for quite a while at this point. This takes place after the ring has been given to Frodo. Also in the future if anyone wants me to tag them in these fics, let me know! @classyhorseeclipseduck Enjoy! xx
Warnings: nothing really, slight fluff and a bit of angst.
Word Count: 1126
We stumbled through the open door after saying good-bye to our group of friends. It had been a couple of days since Bilbo had disappeared, but Frodo told me that he had gone to stay with the elves.
"I did not realize how much Merry could drink before he would pass out, I thought he was a lightweight since he boasted all the time," I laughed. Frodo smiled, but he looked distracted. He had been doing that the entire night. It was like he was not fully here. I sighed. He was probably just worried about Bilbo.
Unbeknownst to us, a hand reached out from behind and grabbed Frodo's shoulder, and Gandalf came into the light. I shrieked, unprepared for a surprise visitor. They both disregarded my scream. "Is it safe?" he hissed, "Is the ring safe?!"
Frodo ran to a chest, leaving me standing still in shock. He drew an envelope from it, carefully handing it to Gandalf. I stared in surprise when Gandalf took the envelope and threw it into the fire. I was still standing in the same spot, a detail neither of them noticed. While the envelope was burning, Gandalf turned to me and saw I was still frozen.
"Ah, y/n, I am sorry to startle you, I have been a bit scatterbrained at late."
I finally began to move my limbs again, rushing around to offer him some tea. While I was getting it ready, I heard the two of them murmuring, something about a ring of power, and a place called Mordor. I shivered, even though the fire was roaring. I turned back to see Frodo looking at the window, ducked down. I whispered, "My love, what is going on?"
A big thump and all of a sudden Samwise Gamgee was in my kitchen, Gandalf having thrown him on the table.
"Now really, what on Middle Earth is going on here! Here I am having enjoyed a lovely night out with my beloved and now there is a wizard and another hobbit in my kitchen, talking about a quest to a dark place or another, and why was I told none of this!" I exclaimed.
Frodo looked down at the floor, saying nothing, and Gandalf, after interrogating Sam, looked over at me. "Y/n, dark shadows are after anyone who associates with the name Baggins. Frodo must bring this ring to the elves before the shadows ensnare him. Sam will accompany him, they will leave tomorrow. You must not stay here, it will be unsafe when the shadows come to Hobbiton. Stay with a friend, anyone who is not related to a Baggins. I am sorry to be so abrupt about this, but it is for their safety and yours. Also, congratulations on finally telling her your feelings Frodo, it's been long enough." Gandalf offered me a smile and it seemed he had a twinkle in his eye. I blushed slightly, turning instead to Frodo.
"My dear, I think it is time for us to retire for the night," Frodo said softly, still looking at the ground. We cleaned up the kitchen in silence after Gandalf and Sam left, promising their return early tomorrow morning. (A/N I do not actually know what time of the day Frodo and Sam left, so for the sake of this story let's pretend it was at 6:00 AM) I looked over at Frodo, who was sweeping the floor. How lucky I was to have such a devoted friend and beloved.
I walked to our bedroom, getting ready for the night. I heard footsteps echoing through the house, and soon muffled by the carpet. Arms reached from behind me, wrapping around my stomach in a smooth motion. I leaned back into Frodo's arms and he held me for quite some time. I slowly turned around, bringing my arms up around his neck, his warm breath on my cheek.
"What aren't you telling me?" I whispered. "I know when you are hiding something."
He sighed, leaning even more onto me. "My love, I do not know how long this journey will take, or how perilous it might be. I know doing this will keep you safe, but I don't think I'm ready to leave you yet. I wanted to get married to you first, turn you into y/n Baggins, and truly have this house as our own. I know that this is not just a sacrifice I will make, but a sacrifice you will be making too. I don't want to put you in too much pain. I just want you to be happy."
Tears welled in my eyes at his speech. We had not explicitly talked about getting married before, although it was implied. My heart sang with joy, even though my instincts knew that it was unlikely to happen. I hugged him even tighter. "Frodo Baggins, you never, ever have to worry about me not being happy, I will always be happy when I am with you. And even when you are absent, you will always be in my heart. I will be strong for us. I trust you, and I love you."
He kissed me softly at first, but it began to grow fierce and desperate. We both knew that there was a chance, a far too big chance that we may never see each other again. We fell asleep in each other's arms as if we were never to be separated.
The morning came too soon, the early morning rays peeking through the windows, melting the light frost on the grass. Winter was coming too soon. I rolled over, onto the empty side of the bed. I moved my hand around, trying to find my beloved, the warmth he gave me. The sheets were not cold yet, so I rolled out of bed, padding across the floor. I walked to the front door where he stood, looking at his hand. As I walked closer to him he shoved whatever the object was into his pocket before scooping me up in his arms.
"Did you really think you could leave without saying goodbye?" I muttered, threading my fingers through his curly hair.
"Not a chance," He chuckled, kissing me slowly. He let go of me, walking back towards the door. The longing in his eyes was almost enough for me to grab hold of him and never let go. But I knew he had to go. He opened the door, blowing me a kiss goodbye, and shut it softly. I watched them leave before breaking down, holding onto a pillow, pretending it was him. In my heart, I knew Frodo, if he would come back to me, would never be the same. I would never get to see the same Frodo, my Frodo again.

Rules: answer the questions and tag nine people you want to get to know better/catch up with!
I got tagged in this approximately a thousand years ago by @hippity-hoppity-brigade so thank you and I’m sorry it took so long!
I'm tagging @goatsandgangsters @paintedimagining @rubecso @jammeke @dollsome-does-tumblr @mithlomi @luohoujidu @celticaurora @nettlestonenell
Three relationships
Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee - The reason I love them together is because even though I don’t ship them romantically, you don’t have to ship them romantically to know their love for each other is the entire heart of LOTR. (although the romantic samfro content out there is some of the best I’ve seen) There’s such tender devotion on either side (you lose it a little in the film but in the books Frodo is so devoted to Sam as well and so eager to look after him and better him) and they care about each other so much and the fact that it’s the friendship between a gentleman pacifist and a gardener that destroys the most potent evil in Middle Earth is so fucking revolutionary. Also, the end where Frodo invites Sam and Rosie to live with him as an OT3/Queer Platonic Threesome (choose according to your preferences)? just *chef’s kiss*
Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe - I think reading AoGG at age 8 ruined my expectations of romance for the rest of my life. The idea of the cocky-but-not-too-cocky academic rival-turned-best-friend who Anne ends up marrying because he can make her laugh (proving that her romantic fantasies about some dark brooding Byronic hero are just a bit bleh compared to someone who can genuinely make her happy) slayed me as a kid, and I haven’t yet entirely recovered.
Leslie Knope and Ben Wyatt - Can I just start by saying how great it is (and how sad that I found it great) that the key romance on Parks and Rec is between two people not in their twenties who are established in their lives and had to wait for that mind-blowing romance? I still worry that if you get to thirty without experiencing that that any romance you have is going to be very dull and ‘grown-up settledy’ and so it’s so nice to see this defied with Ben and Leslie. They support each other in their goals wonderfully and are so fun and ridiculous together, and show the importance of both loving and liking your partner - plus any ship that starts as ‘workplace nemesis’ is a great one for me.
Last song: Island - The Starting Line
Last movie: I’m in the middle of watching all the James Bonds with my parents and we last watched Die Another Day which was daft and camp but I’m very excited to get onto the Craig era now
Currently watching: I neeeeed to watch Shadow and Bone but my mental health has been shredded for the past few months so injecting much new stuff into my brain is an effort. So I’m currently watching Rhod Gilbert’s Work Experience which, for anyone who can access BBC iPlayer, is a Welsh comedian trying out different jobs and showing what it’s actually like working them to the public - many are either underappreciated or misunderstood (such as rubbish collector, teacher or tattooist) and he does an amazing job of breaking down preconceptions while still being hilarious. I’ve also just started watching Loki which is good fun because it’s just Tom Hiddleston eating the scenery for 50 minutes at a time and clearly enjoying the hell out of it.
Currently reading: I just finished reading Fault Lines by Emily Itami - it’s a pretty standard woman-in-unhappy-marriage-with-kids-meets-someone-she-actually-falls-in-love-with story but it’s written so beautifully it doesn’t feel tropey or dull at all. Would very much recommend.

I got tagged by @brightandshinynewstories!
Name ten favorite characters from ten different things (books, tv, film, etc.) then tag ten people.
These are not in any particular order, because I love all my favs in their own special ways.
1. Caduceus Clay (Critical Role.) My very special cow boy. I love his chill, I love how he takes on the caretaker role for his messy little found family, I love his 9 intelligence and getting distracted by moss in a life and death situation, I love his faith and belief in destiny, but possibly what I love the most is his views on nature that align so much with my own.
2. Oscar François de Jarjayes (Rose of Versailles.) Listen, Oscar spends all her time fucking with gender roles in 18th century France, fighting injustice, getting on board with the revolution and flirting with every woman in a 50 mile radius up to and including Marie Antoinette. She’s a big wlw icon and I long for a reboot where she ends up with Rosalie instead of fucking Andre.
3. Brienne of Tarth (ASOIAF.) Isn’t it a shame GOT ended after season 6, Gwendoline Christie is so gorgeous. Anyway, I was definitely too young to be reading these books in high school but I did anyway and Brienne was both my hero and fictional crush. She’s so strong and brave and more noble than any ‘true knight!’ I love Brienne with my whole damn heart.
4. Auron (FFX) God I love this bitter disillusioned undead ronin who’s consumed with guilt and self loathing because God Lied and he was fooled just like everyone else and he wasn’t able to save his lord who he was definitely in love with!! He literally fucking dies in a tragic desperate attempt to avenge Braska and the. decides that no, fuck this, he’s failed everyone else (in his mind) and he’s gonna keep one last promise to his friend and being dead is not gonna stop him!! He hates himself so much but he’s so goddamn loyal even death doesn’t stop him.
5. Sophie Hatter (Howl’s Moving Castle.) Book version, because Miyazaki did my girl wrong. Sophie’s whole story is about her assuming that she’s doomed to failure in everything so she never tries for a better life and just expects that her life is never going to amount to much of anything. And then she gets cursed and it ends up helping her realize how stupid a lot of her fears and insecurities were and she’s finally able to discover that all that shit about failure was just in her head! The only thing holding her back was herself!! Also she has really powerful magic in her own right and later gets to consult with kings and do important work and why did the movie take away all the best things about her!!!
6. Dr. Kenzo Tenma (Monster.) The poster child for ‘No Good Deed Goes Unpunished.’ Risks his whole successful career as a brain surgeon to save the life of a child and he’s rewarded for his altruism by getting sucked into the middle of a brutal murder mystery that paints him as the prime suspect. The thing that makes Tenma so special is that he starts off believing that all lives are equal, and after going through absolute hell and seeing the worst of humanity...HE STILL BELIEVES IN IT. It would be so easy to have him become disillusioned and abandon his ideals, but no! They’re challenged in the worst possible way, but at the very bitter end, he doesn’t lose his belief in the inherent value of all human life.
7. Granny Weatherwax (Discworld.) I want to be half as fierce and strong as Granny when I’m old. She’s not nice and she’s tremendously stubborn but she’s a DAMN good person who won’t let anyone take away another person’s free will and steps up to do the right thing when no one else will because she’s GOOD. Even when she doesn’t want to be. She’s powerful and proud and knows exactly who she is. She’s amazing.
8. Samwise Gamgee (LOTR.) FRODO WOULD NEVER HAVE GOTTEN FAR WITHOUT HIS SAM. God, Sam is so full of love and strength and courage. He follows Frodo literally to the end of the damn world and when Frodo can go no further, Sam carries him on. I can’t think about Sam too long without crying. He’s so very good.
9. Zuko (Avatar: The Last Airbender.) So we all agree Zuko got the best redemption story of all time, right? It’s so, so good watching this angry mess of a kid grow and heal from his trauma and learn to open his heart and love and finally have the courage to confront his abusive father and tell him to his face that what he did was wrong! After spending so long trying to prove himself and win his father’s love on an impossible quest! Zuko’s growth is just the best. And he’s such a lovable awkward goof. That’s rough, buddy.
10. Beatrix (FFIX.) Did Beatrix make me gay as a wee innocent baby child? Probably. I fell in love pretty much the minute she shows up, calls you insects and completely destroys your party without breaking a sweat. She starts out as a villain but everything she does is out of misguided loyalty to her queen, and once she finally realizes how wrong she was she busts her ass to try to redeem herself! She loves Alexandria so much and she’s 100% willing to fight to the death when the city is attacked. She’s honorable and loyal to a fault and she’s absolutely the reason I’m weak for lady knights.
Tagging: @maeofthedead, @youngsterhammy, @saint-tibbles, @quarterpasttired, @disasterhumans, @skygemspeaks, @megneato, @kimabutch, @pastellieria, @fwishbone
If I didn’t tag you and you wanna do it, consider yourself tagged!

RULES: List ten of your favorite characters (male versions bc i’ve already done the female one) in ten different fandoms (in no particular order), and then tag ten people.
I was tagged by @frosttrix!
Favorites are so haaaaaaarrrrrd... And in ten different fandoms? Do I have favorite male characters in that many fandoms? Only one way to find out, I guess. Let’s see...
1. Very nearly any of the Caretakers from Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica by James A. Owen would easily make a favorites list, but I think Fred the Badger edges out just ahead of the rest of them. He’s just so sweet, and so eager to help in any way he can, and I love him. Fred Protection Squad. 2. Marco Alisdair from The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. He’s that reserved kind of intelligent, but no less capable than a louder person of kicking ass. Except he doesn’t kick ass physically--he does it with magic. Get you a boy who will build a magical circus for/with you. 3. Samwise Gamgee from The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. Literally nothing against Frodo--I love him, too--but Sam did everything Frodo did and wasn’t corrupted by the Ring, despite his proximity to it for so long. And the whole time, he did his best to keep Frodo’s spirits up by reminding him of the home that he believed would be waiting for them when they finished their task. Also, the whole Shelob thing. Sort of important. Read: if it weren’t for Samwise Gamgee, Frodo Baggins would definitely have died before getting to Mordor. 4. Remus Lupin from Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling. Listen. Give a character a tragic backstory, and I’m immediately drawn to them and want to protect them. Give a character self-loathing issues and the resulting angst, and that protective instinct multiplies a hundredfold. Give that character a child they love who outlives them, and you’ve hit the Sympathetic Character Trifecta. Also, even if Lupin didn’t have all/any of those things, he’d still be the best DADA professor Harry’s ever had, and just an all-around cool guy. Remus Lupin Protection Squad. 5. Héctor [last name??] from Coco (dir. Lee Unkrich). So, Coco’s still relatively new, so I’m gonna avoid spoilers as much as I can, but Héctor’s got a tragic backstory, too, and it’s fucking heartbreaking. But it’s all the more heartbreaking because he manages to put on a cheerful, playful, lovable-scamp façade for almost the whole movie, and when the backstory is revealed, the façade drops, and my soul shatters. Aside from the tragic backstory, Héctor’s just such an endearing character. He’s so funny, and clever, and sweet, and don’t think I missed when he went from calling Miguel gordito, chamaco, etc. to m’ijo. Don’t think I missed it, Disney. 6. Giles Corey from The Crucible by Arthur Miller. So this one’s kind of cheating, since Giles Corey was a real person, but I have no idea what he was like in real life. I know what he’s like in the play, and it’s amazing. He’s a bit bumbling, but he’s still got his wits about him, and he’s contentious as all hell, but it’s understandable in his situation (as he says, “I know my rights, and I’ll have them”). He’s another Comic Relief Turned Tragic type, and it’s super impactful when he turns tragic. You see this can-do, independent, cantankerous old man break down and weep on stage because of a mistake he made, and that decision affects his choices for the rest of the show, and it’s so fucking sad, guys. 7. Neil Perry from Dead Poets Society (dir. Peter Weir). I love the whole cast of Dead Poets Society, but I’m drawn to Neil in particular because he wants desperately to be an actor (rather like someone we all know--nudge nudge wink wink), but his father won’t let him (thankfully unlike that same someone). So what does Neil do? He forges a permission letter from his father to let him audition for a local production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, where he ends up being cast as Puck. And on top of that, he does well in school but also breaks rules and is a large part of the driving force behind the Dead Poets Society being (re)started. He’s got huge amounts of wit and spirit and he (SPOILER) gets a sad ending, and my heart cries. Also, he’s played (expertly) by Robert Sean Leonard, which means he’s not exactly hard on the eyes. 8. Mercutio from William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Listen. Listen. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve read/seen R&J, so forgive me if I don’t remember most of Mercutio’s characterization, but his wit is my favorite thing about that whole Godforsaken play. His last words are a pun, people. He gets stabbed in the chest, and as he lies dying, he says, “If you look for me tomorrow, you shall find me a grave man.” A grave man. Fucking--Mercutio, y’all. 9. Again with the whole male cast being awesome (the female cast kicks ass, too, but unfortunately that’s not the question): The West Wing (written by Aaron Sorkin). It’s really tough to choose from among these guys, too, but I think I’m going to go with Charlie Young. This boy (I’m allowed to say boy--he’s, like, my age) is personal aide to President Bartlet, and he’s the quintessential Hufflepuff. The hardest worker you’ve ever met in your life, loyal as all hell to his loved ones (including his boss and the rest of the White House staff), and incredibly humble. Plus, he’s one of, like, two people in the country who gets to sass the President with minor to no repercussions. And he does it spectacularly, maintaining a polite facial expression and tone of voice the whole time. 10. Christopher Belling from Curtains (book: Rupert Holmes, music: John Kander, lyrics: Fred Ebb). Most of the guys in Curtains are guys I’d love to play, but Christopher Belling, British Sass Master, wins this time. He’s the director of the show-within-the-show, and literally the only thing he cares about is his show. Case in point: Curtains is a murder mystery, and when asked about how he feels about being in the same building as a murderer, his response? Oscar: “You can’t sleep either? Belling: “Knowing that someone in this company is going to change my blocking?!” This man. Completely and utterly shallow, but it’s hilarious. Another golden line is when he first learns that his leading lady (who wasn’t very good, nor was she popular with--well--anyone) has been murdered, his knee-jerk reaction is to ask, “And what are they going to do with her killer? Does he get some sort of trophy, or a Pontiac convertible?”
Are you sensing a few trends? I’m sensing a few trends. Oh, well.
I’ll tag @alienjack, @sublimegentlemanalpaca, @teabooksandsweets, @ofbadgersandblueberries, @fluffybishenanigans, @onedragontorulethemall, and anybody else who wants to fill this out!

Sam’s mind was occupied mostly with his master, hardly noticing the dark cloud that had fallen on his own heart. He put Frodo in front of him now, and kept a watchful eye on every movement of his, supporting him if he stumbled, and trying to encourage him with clumsy words.
