🔥 DANNY B PLAYLIST- WHEN THE SMOKE CLEARS 🔥
Mourner | Ghouly | Dex
🎧 Bonus Track: Keeping House- The Mountain Goats 🎧
db time! for his playlist i went for a very nostalgic feel to it. i tried to avoid any songs that werent released at least 5 years or so ago and any newer songs i did include i made sure they only exclusively applied to db’s current adult life. lots of rock pop that was really popular in the 2010s and all that from fob, the killers, ect that i feel fit with danny b’s angry teenage years. i strongly resisted the urge to add imagine dragon’s entire discography into this playlist.
not only did i use this era of songs for the obvious adult nostalgia bit, i also feel like teachers in general are just a couple years behind on music lol, especially someone like danny b who is just tired all the time. he wouldn’t really keep up with current trends or dig that deep into newer music that much. a lot of the vibe of this playlist was actually based on an actual teacher i had in high school that played these same songs so often in class that i was sick of them haha.
i also wanted to add more green day or punk rock band songs but i felt like it converged too much with mourner’s playlist. i also debated how much songs from db’s angry teenager days he would still listen to today beyond the surface level pop rock that are already in his album. (maybe ill make a teenage db album in the future??)

Was tagged by @rivetgoth to list my nine favorite albums right now. This is going to be some amalgamation of all-time favorites and stuff I've revisited lately with newer (i.e. within the last couple of years) fixations -- neither an exhaustive list nor a snapshot of the specific moment. Here are just some albums I like and have been thinking about!
Public Memory - Elegiac Beat: I know I've been annoying about them lately. I've been a fan since their first album, but when I listened to this album for the first time last fall it was one of those love-at-first-listen moments. Like literally the first few notes gave me intense goosebumps and I knew I was in for a major treat. I adore the ultra-spooky downtempo sound and the dub influences, and I love how so many of the songs flow into each other. The result is extremely cohesive and artfully executed. Favorite song: "Tall in My Room"
1000 Eyes - Duality: This is the newest one I've listened to multiple times. More spooky downtempo stuff, which you will learn is a common theme in my favorites. This one leans more ambient and is mostly instrumental. It exists in the same space as Silent Hill music essentially, which makes sense because 1000 Eyes worked on the soundtrack to the game Signalis -- one of my two favorite survival horror games of the last few years. The only problem is that if I'm not careful I will fall asleep listening to this, haha. Favorite song: "Affirmation of Null"
My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult - Confessions of a Knife: I saw them live a couple of weeks ago and so I've dusted this one off a couple of times recently. I think most industrial fans would say this is TKK's most popular album. It's nearly perfect; there are only a couple of songs on it that I don't love. Favorite songs: "The Days of Swine and Roses," "Waiting for Mommie"
George Clanton - 100% Electronica: I WILL BE seeing him again this weekend, so we're about to listen to a bunch of George Clanton again! If I had to choose a favorite album of his then I guess this would be it, but Slide is a really really close second. Actually it's almost too close to call. Most would classify him as vaporwave, but I think people who aren't fans of the genre would like him because he mostly just makes pop music that sounds like it's from the '80s and '90s. I wore this album out in 2019 after I had worn out Slide and needed to move on to more of the same. Last time I saw him live I got to meet him, and he was wonderfully charming and funny. Favorite songs: "Bleed," "Warmspot," "Never Late Again"
Sacred Skin - The Decline of Pleasure: Sacred Skin is my new Drab Majesty -- I basically proselytize about them to anyone who will listen, lol. Like I imagine how I feel about certain pop-driven darkwave bands is how Christians feel about Jesus. This album has been out for a couple of years, but I still listen to it maybe once a month or so because it's pretty much flawless. I especially recommend them to fans of Tears for Fears and Duran Duran. Favorite songs: "Far Away," "Alive in the Night"
Drab Majesty - The Demonstration: Ah hell, might as well list them too. Here's another flawless album that I still listen to semi-regularly even though it's seven years old now. When I first listened to them (it was actually the song "The Foyer" that hooked me) I couldn't believe how they sounded so much like an amalgamation of my favorite classic gothy bands -- like if the Cure, Depeche Mode, and Cocteau Twins all collaborated. This is a concept album about the Heaven's Gate cult, for added fun! Favorite song: "Dot in the Sky"
Night Sins - Violet Age: I was listening to this obsessively at the same time I was listening to Sacred Skin obsessively. At the time the closest goth event to me was in Tulsa, which is a fucking nightmare of a 2+ hour drive from where I live, so my favorite thing to do on my way home was queue up this album right after the Sacred Skin album. The association lingers. I've waxed poetic about Night Sins recently so there's no need to restate all of that. I just really love their hooks and how unusually swingy a lot of their songs are. Favorite song: "Corium"
Body of Light - Bitter Reflection: I like a lot of songs from their earlier albums, but their newest release is so good and so consistent. It has a beautiful melancholic and atmospheric vibe that sets it apart. I actually preordered this on vinyl on a whim and was so glad that I did when it finally came out. Favorite song: "Never Ever"
Underworld - dubnobasswithmyheadman: I'd feel stupid if I didn't include it. This album is 30 years old and is generally lauded by gen X former ravers everywhere. I am a millennial and have never technically been to a rave (unless Happyland Music Fest counts), but I also love it very much. I've been listening to this since 2017 and it's still what I put on when I need to do some mindlessly repetitive work or just need to kill an hour and 12 minutes -- both somewhat common occurrences. A few of their albums are notably excellent, but this will probably always be my favorite. Favorite songs: "Dark & Long," "M.E."
As usual, I will not tag anyone specifically, but do it if you want!

Hi! Hope you’re having a good day! I’m curious about your thoughts on Hard. What do you think of the song and the album? I understand why the band chose that as their TT but I don’t find it a particularly good song? And it feels a bit misleading for the rest of the album? Rest of the tracks are smashing. My favs are Satellite, Identity (🏳️🌈 personally), Juice. I just.. I feel like if someone is introduced to Shinee for the first time through Hard it’s not doing them any favours. And it’s the one song that’s made me think if it’s really them. I don’t know why I feel so strongly about this song!!! - concert anon :))
hello again :*
AHHH hard well you see i do have opinions and i do have thoughts bc when do i not :) i’ve said this before and i still stand by it, that even though i don’t say this as defence of the albums, some need to remember that shinee is a “contemporary band” and they will have to make contemporary music, which won’t be the same for 2008, 2015, and 2023.
this is to say… even knowing that, and recognising callbacks to 1st gen of k-pop, to seo taiji and boys for example (in both structure of the song, the “ayooo” camera grabbing, the styling [what some called “nct fits” were actually quite accurate to what 90s hiphop/krock bands were wearing + those oversized grey suits <3 a classic]), i don’t like “hard” the song much either. it’s mostly because i know shinee can do modern hiphop better as they did with “don’t call me.”
i think both don’t call me and hard albums can be called reverse click baits LOL. the title track might not be most liked by longtime fans, but will be enjoyed by a newer audience, and as you move to the later parts, the shinee-ness of the songs shines (pun intended) through.
satellite and the feeling are the most classic shinee songs i’d say on the album, juice has that fun classic 2nd gen sound, identity is such a good song and ofc, yes, a gay anthem, 10X is SUCH fun krnb jazz-pop, then the K.O of insomnia AND gravity?? yeah. (i sometimes forget like it and sweet misery despite being obsessed with the later on release LOL sorry). finally i think now more than half a year after the album came out i think i can confidently say it’s a tie between 10X and insomnia for my favourite tracks on the album :P
this got long haha. btw, if you are curious what shinee themselves have to say abt choosing hard as their song, in this video (with a timestamp) they talk abt it :* hope you are well too 🫂

2.) I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy And All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me - Fall Out Boy
3.) Dust Bowl Dance - Mumford & Sons
4.) King for a Day - Pierce the Veil (this was such a mood when I dumped my ex)
5.) Love Is A Cat From Hell - Chiodos
6.) EXEC_METEMPSYCHOSIS/. - Ar Tonelico III OST (an mp100xAT AU would be so neat...the language used here, Hymmnos, is entirely about emotions)
7.) The Moon Asked The Crow - CocoRosie (I’ve actually a fluffy little Ritshou fic rattling about in my brain for months now based on this...)
8.) Disappear - Motion City Soundtrack (this is a huge fave for when I’m angry)
9.) Fragments - RvB S10 OST (the rvb soundtrack goes so hard hot damn)
10.) All Night Dance Parties In The Underground Palace - Alesana (my favorite love song <3) (...Also, I was in the mood to listen to it because I’m recently head over heels for @beanpots Cinderella-esque AU and this song makes me think of it. Go check out the AU it’s bitchin’)
Ah, I tend to like music that kinda goes fast and hard. I drive a lot, so I like things that sound good to listen to while going 75 down the interstate with the volume cranked so high my rearview mirror shakes. <3
I will tag: @hydrachea @auro-cyanide @hetaresexual @cosmetreee @onepunchbeth @unlikelyzero @nimagine @keishota @conking @toadexcited
(I just realized I can name users off the top of my head and no longer have to scour through my followers list for random people to tag?? I’m gonna cry.)
#Panic I love that the first song on your list was Pretty Fly (For a White Guy) by The Offspring#That song was my childhood haha#It's not in my last 10 but I have a The Offspring album on my iPod#METEMPSYCHOSIS is actually the first song that made me think of an AU#The magic in that game series is heavily based on emotion#And the language is built around that#Honestly the world building in those games is goals#I got to see Chiodos live once and I crowdsurfed it was AWESOME#My music hasn't changed much since like junior high/middle school#Same bands just newer albums haha

5 albums and singles to listen to this week 4/9/2022
1. p.s.you'redead - Sugar Rot. (on paper wing records)
A blistering fiery passion of sasscore, mathcore and post-hardcore and noise rock (called by the band as danceviolence for good reason haha). Not only the homies in p.s.you'redead have been the most nice people to me, but they make sick ass tunes. I love them so much. Catch them on tour with blind equation next month may 15th through the 22nd (https://twitter.com/BlindEquation/status/1508851363278643204).
2. Yung lean - stardust (on World Affairs)
swedish rapper yung lean is back to form after "starz" which debuted in 2020. I like how lean goes back to a more traditional style with blending more newer trends and current ideas that lean has worked with. Songs like all the things remind me of stuff off of frost god and unknown memory. While tracks featuring Bladee and skrillex remind me of current flavors of hyperpop. Even digging into sounds of witch house on also all the things. which makes sense with Jack Donaghue on prod. credits of said song. yung lean whether you love or hate him is better than ever.
JER - Clout Chasers. (on Bad Time Records)
next single is jer's clout chasers off of their album bothered / unbothered. Jer's lementations about the current DIY // Indie // Hardcore scenes reigns true. TLDR: people in these scenes suck sometimes and need to be called out! be nice to each other and raise other people's art up. BE A HOMIE SHARE IT! anyways great with production from reade wolcott of WATU fame jer and her make a good team. The song and chorus are so catchy it'll have you bobbing your head to a strangely serious song but I guess thats the point haha.
Eichers - My Checkered Future (on bad time records)
This the most refreshing and nice movement in ska in the last 10 years (including jer and watu). I Have even interviewed oldphone and eichlers at the metro show w/ kill lincoln and the best of the worst. I really love his messages from stuff like mutual aid and politics to friendships. I love how complex yet simple the beats are. I love it all.
lastly....
not new but my favorite newish album from last year
Kaonashi - Dear Lemon House, You Ruined Me: Senior Year. (on equal vision records)
I don't really wanna spoil the album but this is a concept album about a a narrative androgynous high schooler named Jamie and their love for their crush Casey. I see Jamie's experiences as some of my experiences in the their (koanashi) songs. ones of loneliness, self doubt and feeling the world is out to get you. Just if someone could help maybe the outcomes of these lives would change. I love and hate this album at the same time. as much as I hated and loved high school the same. I hope we all find peace.

I ran to go listen to Attacca! It’s really good I like it! So far 2 minus 1 / to you are my favs. And oh gosh… I think the last album I listened to was An Ode or Teen Age when it first came out so it’s been forever.
And yeah I was a huge Army back in 2015/2016(?) but I fell out of kpop for a few years so I don’t really know what’s going on these days. Funnily enough I thought at first they were a subunit for EXO bc of the fan wars back then 😭 And my bias was Yoongi! Although I think I gravitate towards solo artist more. I love IU, Chungha — I also loved The Rose but they disbanded so :(
2 minus 1 is, as I have discussed before, truly a masterpiece 😌 and yes omg I’m going on a spring break vacation and I’m just gonna stream to you the entire time, it’s such a good song!!! aa teen, age is so good oh my god there is not a miss on that entire damn album I swear and same with an ode!! Network love gets me ~funky~
Yes haha me too! I was more of an army in like 2016-17 I think, but then I fell out of them as well and got into svt :3 HAHA DUDE THE FANWARD WERE INSANE THAT SHIT WAS SCARY but yes my biases were namjoon and taehyung but yoongi was def a wrecker 😔 I’m not super caught up on them but I listen to some of their stuff like up to MOTS: Persona bc I think it’s pretty good :)
Chungha is literally one of my favorite idols!!!!! Her music is amazing and she is 👀👀 just 👀👀 so pretty 👀👀 IU is amazing too I just havent listened to as much of her music, I really need to get into her more! And dude the rose is one of the groups I stan too!! It was so sad that they had that lawsuit thing AND LOST TOO 💀 LIKE THEY DIDNT GET PAID FOR THEIR CAREER HOW ARE YOU GONNA DENY THAT 💀
If you wanna get back into kpop and you work better with soloists, I’d suggest checking out newer songs from Taemin, Sunmi, Wonho, Hyuna and Dawn both have great stuff lately (AND THEY JUST GOT ENGAGED 🛐), woodz, Han seungwoo, woosung (the rose kinda branched out and he did a bunch of solo work :3) and similar artists!! I’d also suggest onewe as a group, they’re a bit newer of a kband but they’re sO fucking good - If you want more newer group recs lmk bc I’m more than happy to help 👀 Also, I’m gonna list out new svt solos just in case you wanted to see them and didn’t know who did what 😌
The8- Dreams Come True (older), Side by Side, Maze
Hoshi- Spider
Woozi- Ruby
Wonwoo/Mingyu- Bittersweet (feat.LeeHi)
Jun- crow, silent boarding gate (released on carat day if I’m remembering correctly 💗😭), Dream
Vernon- bands boy (only on YouTube but it’s a banger so I’d check it out if I were you)
Dino- last order (only performed it once live, so you’ll have to watch the performance instead of finding the song but his performance was sO good JAKKFKSF)
I’ll add more if I’m forgetting any but these are what I can think of for rn :)

Track by Track Review - Hottest 100 2020
Wrote this article a little bit ago just for fun. Decided to post it on here with the thought of maybe getting back to the Bish Review. Also, put an asterix next to my votes (songs that made my top 10). Anyway, here we go:
100. Kool - BENEE
One of the many gems from ‘Hey u x’. Unlucky to hear her biggest hit so early on.
99. Itch - Hockey Dad
I thought ‘Brain Candy’ was a little bit of a disappointment, but Itch was one of the strongest tracks they duo have released.
98. Your Man - Joji
Surprised to hear this track in the countdown. Pretty solid tune though
97. Audacity (feat. Headie One) - Stormzy
He’s still one of the best from the UK rap scene and this track shows why.
96. Germaphobe - Hockey Dad
One of the weaker tracks, I thought, off Brain Candy, but not surprised a lot of Hockey Dad fans liked this one. Definitely plays into their audience’s taste.
95. Loose Ends (feat. G Flip) - Illy
I do not like Aussie Hip Pop. This track is not an exception.
94. Rain (feat. Tay Keith) - Aitch and AJ Tracey
The piano in this is very ‘Humble’ - Kendrick Lamar. Still a banger though.
93. Lemonade (feat. Gunna, Don Toliver and NAV) - Internet Money
Bit of a forgettable track. It’s okay, but feels like there’s a lot better like this out there.
92. These Days - Thelma Plum
First cover of the countdown. Still one of the best Hottest 100 number ones, and Thelma does it justice.
91. Charlie - Bugs
Second cover of the countdown. I do like this but I feel it doesn’t reach the same heights as the original.
90. No Time To Die - Billie Eilish
A little expected from Eilish but still a solid Bond song (the second in history to make it).
89. In Her Eyes - The Jungle Giants
I cannot wait for the new Jungle Giants album. They’ve gotten better and better with each release.
88. Heart Attack (feat. lau.ra) - BRONSON*
I fell deeply in love with this song the second I heard it. It just has this quiet yet strong emotion behind it. The production on it is something else as well.
87. Three Leaf Clover - Teenage Joans
A really solid debut single by the Unearthed High winners. Can’t wait to hear more from them.
86. Laugh Now Cry Now (feat. Lil Durk) - Drake
I still don’t get the hype for Drake. The falsetto “baby” in the chorus also never ceases to make me laugh.
85. Too Tough Terry - Dune Rats
Dunies slow descent from mature stoner pop to edgy tracks for teens has been hard to watch. This song just seems like a parody of the band.
84. Chicken Tenders - Dominic Fike
Has to be the sexiest song about the best thing in the frozen food section at the supermarket. Pity the album didn’t live up to the hype.
83. Down For You - Cosmo’s Midnight and Ruel
I was really keen for this once I heard about the collaboration between the two. Unfortunately it felt a little too much like a Ruel song and it doesn’t really feel like Cosmo’s Midnight had much of a touch on it.
82. The Clap - The Chats
It’s a bit generic for The Chats but I just like hearing them get more popular. Just hilarious dudes.
81. Weightless - Spacey Jane
One of the stronger and more unique tracks on Sunlight. The synth touches really suit the band.
80. Freaks - FISHER
Cannot wait for FISHER to just slowly fade away. His tracks all sound the same and are so basic.
79. my future - Billie Eilish
One of the best tracks Eilish has released. Love how this just turns halfway through from a really soft ballad to a bit of an electro pop song.
78. Lady Marmalade - G Flip
It’s a nice cover. The video of G Flip performing it though is really fun.
77. House Arrest - Sofi Tukker and Gorgon City
This song bangs pretty hard. I like a lot of Sofi Tukker have really been putting out some solid stuff.
76. Baby It’s You - London Grammar
This is a great track, that synth in the chorus is heavenly.
75. Photo ID - Remi Wolf
I do like this song but it reminds me of a track from the 80s or 90s and I can’t put my finger on what that track is.
74. Scream Drive Faster - LAUREL
When I first heard this I thought Ladyhawke was back in the mainstream. Little disappointed it wasn’t, but this slaps.
73. Don’t Need You - Genesis Owusu*
Possibly the best chorus of the year. Owusu has stepped up massively in the Australian Hip Hop scene.
72. Way Down - Ocean Alley
Ocean Alley have plateaued. ‘Lonely Diamond’ just felt like the band had become comfortable.
71. Obey - Bring Me The Horizon and YUNGBLUD
I just can’t take BMTH seriously anymore. They’re music has become so comically edgy.
70. Low - Chet Faker
Hey look, Nick Murphy has become Chet Faker again. Don’t know why he changes between the two when one is just slightly more soulful than the other, but he does release nice tunes.
69. Second - Hope D
I do like this female, Aussie version of Jamie T. It’s a really nice track. Also the number 69 is claimed by Hope D. haha.
68. Lie to Me - Vera Blue
I don’t know what it is exactly, but there’s something about Vera which just puts her on a different level than her counterparts. She’s just that consistently good.
67. Boss Bitch - Doja Cat
This track doesn’t get old for me. It’s so much fun, and Doja Cat owns it. Love it.
66. Fantasising - Skegss
This track really does have a very “Three Leaf Clover” vibe. I have enjoyed Skegss in the past but their new stuff hasn’t captured my attention really. Seems a bit run of the mill.
65. C’MON (feat. Travis Barker) - Amy Shark
I actually don’t mind this song, but why does it feature Travis Barker. It’s a piano ballad featuring a punk drummer, and he really doesn’t do that much. I’m confused, was he jealous of Mark Hoppus?
64. Soak Me In Bleach - The Amity Affliction
The song title reflects my thoughts when I hear that The Amity Affliction have released a new one. There are so many better Aussie metal bands out there.
63. Day & Age - Ball Park Music
BPM have a knack for writing amazing ballads. I wasn’t huge on their latest album, but tracks like this continue me having them in my good books.
62. Run - Joji
One of the best tracks Joji has released. A really mature song for the artist and a step in the right direction for him.
61. Pretty Grim - Ruby Fields
Ruby is good, but I feel she’s starting to release the same song over and over. Need something fresh.
60. Go (feat. Juice WRLD) - The Kid LAROI
Probably the strongest track by The Kid LAROI, but Juice WRLD outshines him just due to his vocal tone. He just sounds better.
59. Gimme Love - Joji
And that’s three for Joji. I really like how this song has two distinct sections and both are solid without overshadowing the other.
58. Fly Away - Tones and I
I still don’t get why Tones and I puts on that fake accent in her songs. It just detracts from what could be a nice pop song.
57. Sobercoaster - Beddy Rays
Really didn’t expect this to get so high. I’m happy though because it’s a really fun song.
56. On The Line - San Cisco
Tracks like this keep me invested in San Cisco. They can really release some brilliant stuff.
55. I Think You’re Great - Alex The Astronaut
The fine line between overly chessy and adorably optimistic is what Alex walks on with every track. I think this falls on the former side sadly.
54. Blue - Eiffel 65 (Flume Remix)
The fact that Flume puts so much of his identity into this remix is why Flume has been one of the most successful Aussie acts this past decade.
53. In Your Eyes - The Weeknd
If The Weeknd release ‘Blinding Lights’ a month later I’d believe that he would take out this countdown. He didn’t though and instead we are left with this solid track in the bottom 50.
52. The Glow - DMA’s
Why? Why did DMA’s have to get so poppy and generic. I loved their first two album, but I struggled to get through the third.
51. Your Love (Déjà Vu) - Glass Animals
Out of the three big hits the band had in 2020, this is the most underrated. There is so much going on here, yet it never feels muddled. Wavey Davey on fire here.
50. Nothing To Love About Love - Peking Duk and The Wombats
Although this is a nice song, there’s been so many 80s electro pop throwbacks recently that have been done better that this collab just fades into the background.
49. Wishing Well - Juice WRLD
This song is so beautiful and heart-breaking. Really shows why Juice WRLD became such a beloved artist so quickly.
48. Ain’t It Different (feat. AJ Tracey and Stormzy) - Headie One
This is a really cool collab. They use the Red Hot Chili Peppers sample so well and really flow so well with it that it feels almost effortless.
47. Animals - Architects
I like a lot about this track, but the chorus really hits another level. Feels cathartic to scream along to.
46. Pretty Lady - Tash Sultana
Was hoping Tash would move into a more psychedelic direction with their newer stuff, but this is still a fine track.
45. as long as you care - Ruel
A pretty by the books Ruel song, but he really does this style so well.
44. You & I - G Flip
Probably G Flips strongest release this year. The chorus has a lot of flavour.
43. together - Ziggy Alberts
Generic acoustic track by generic Byron Bay artist. He really took the cake this year for dumbest comparison, when he compared wearing a face mask to the holocaust. Thought he’d suffer a bit for it, but apparently his fanbase grew stronger.
42. WHATS POPPIN - Jack Harlow
Jack Harlow is just so much fun. He’s killing it, and WHATS POPPIN is proof of that. Keep the bangers coming Harlow.
41. I Still Dream About You - The Smith Street Band
I felt I was growing out of The Smith Street Band, their newer music just not resonating to me. Then they drop this and make me a big fan again.
40. Come & Go (with Marshmello) - Juice WRLD
Just that chorus. It is so enjoyable. He really was going places.
39. Righteous - Juice WRLD
A back to back, and from one of the more exciting songs on the album we get to one of the more sombre tracks. Everything from the guitar, the vocals, those synth notes. . . this track is just a perfect send off for the artist. R.I.P. Juice.
38. Parasite Eve - Bring Me The Horizon
This song is so unironically cringe and edgy that it somehow becomes ironically fun. It does the full circle.
37. SO DONE - The Kid LAROI
I do like The Kid LAROI, but his vocals on this, combined with the lyrics, just make him sound like a child chucking a temper tantrum. It does make me laugh though.
36. forget me too (feat. Halsey) - Machine Gun Kelly
If this song was released in the early 00s (where it belongs), it would’ve faded into oblivion. At least Halsey sounds pretty solid on her verse though.
35. Running Red Lights (feat. Rivers Cuomo & Pink Siifu) - The Avalanches*
My personal number one for the year. This song has that melancholic, nostalgic feel to it that just hits home every time. Also one of Cuomo’s strongest vocal performances.
34. Everybody Rise - Amy Shark
This song is fine. I wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to it, but it’s fun to sing-a-long to.
33. Breathe Deeper - Tame Impala
One of the best tracks from The Slow Rush. I love that piano motif throughout, and the bass is so funky. That weird bridge section towards the end is also pretty slick.
32. Criminals - DMA’s
The real criminals are the ones who told DMA’s this was a good idea. I just can’t get around their new stuff. I miss ‘Hill’s End’ and ‘For Now’.
31. Reasons - San Cisco
Tracks like this keep me from becoming a full time fan of San Cisco. They can really release some average stuff.
30. Bagi-la-m Bargan (feat. Fred Leone) - Birdz
Powerful. Birdz really took it to another level here.
29. Dribble - Sycco
Although I find there’s a lot of similar stuff out there, I think Sycco does sound like an original voice in the Australian music scene. She’s killing it.
28. Straightfaced - Spacey Jane
Although there was a lot of good stuff on Spacey Jane’s debut album, I found it to be quite repetitive. This track was one of the ones that I found to fade into the background instead of standing out.
27. Under the Thunder - Skegss
I really want to like Skegss, they’ve released some great tunes in the past. But this just doesn’t do it for me. It’s just boring.
26. No Plans To Make Plans - Lime Cordiale
Everything that makes new The Rubens tracks so average is presented here on a Lime Cordiale track. Obnoxiously quirky.
25. Reality Check Please - Lime Cordiale
Hey back to back Lime Cordiale tracks. And another one of their weaker ones. ‘Addicted to the Sunshine’ did this chorus better.
24. Blue World - Mac Miller
Didn’t expect this to make it so high but so well deserved. This song slaps hard but still continues the tragic story that is presented on his posthumous album ‘Circles’.
23. Good News - Mac Miller*
Back to back Mac! To be honest, I am close to tears every time this track plays. If only the lyrics “there's a whole lot more for me waiting/I know maybe I'm too late, I could make it there some other time/Then I'll finally discover/That it ain't that bad” were told to Mac before his passing, because he did have so much more to offer. R.I.P. Mac.
22. Complicated - Eves Karydas
This song is so good. I’ve heard it that many times but it still hasn’t lost its shine. So damn good.
21. Energy - KLP and Stace Cadet
I was really hoping this would crack top 20. Probably the best Dance track of the year. Such a jam.
20. Addicted To The Sunshine - Lime Cordiale
Despite thinking that ‘14 Steps To A Better Living’ didn’t have many new tracks that were that good on it, this one is nice. It’s just a pleasantly nice song.
19. You Should Be Sad - Halsey
I really don’t like Pop Country music but I also find it hilarious that the genre cracked the top 20. ‘09 Taylor Swift would be proud.
18. Tangerine - Glass Animals
With Tik Tok exploding in 2020 I don’t get how this didn’t get adopted by someone on it. It’s so primed to get hyped on it.
17. Is It True - Tame Impala
I think Kevin Parker’s vocals on this are underwhelming, but that might just be because the instrumental slaps that hard. The rhythm section is so tight.
16. Screw Loose - Lime Cordiale
This sound is what Lime Cordiale do best. We need more dub influence and less elevator pop influence.
15. Skin - Spacey Jane
No matter what you think about Spacey Jane, they sure do make some emotional tracks. One of the most powerful songs on Sunlight.
14. Tombstone - Ocean Alley
The verses are average and pretty bland but the chorus is amazing. Just don’t think the album resonated with me too much, and Tombstone is another mixed track off it.
13. Rockstar - Mallrat
Possibly Mallrat’s best song yet. Her laid back, relaxed style mixed with the low-fi production really meshes well.
12. Get on the Beers (feat. Dan Andrews) - Mashd N Kutcher
I’m not going to pretend this is my style, but the way this has resonated with Australians during lockdown last year makes the track way smarter than it deserves to be. It’s both ironically and unironically good.
11. On Our Own - Lime Cordiale
I’m happy the three best new tracks of Lime Cordiale’s debut were the highest placing in this countdown. This really is a nice song.
10. Therefore I Am - Billie Eilish
Not my favourite songs from Billie but she continues to be consistently good. The production on this is immense as well.
9. I’m Good? - Hilltop Hoods
I wish old school Hilltop could hear this so could prevent themselves every going this direction. Aussie Hip Pop is not a good genre. This is one of their worst tracks yet.
8. Sending Me Ur Loving - The Jungle Giants*
This song has so much flavour too it. It’s so funky and fun and the production is so tight. Also the guitar work is underrated here, not doing much but adding that icing on the cake.
7. Hyperfine - G Flip
Every time I hear this track (and I’ve heard it a lot) I completely forget about it a couple minutes later. G Flip is good, but this is forgettable.
6. WAP (feat. Megan Thee Stallion) - Cardi B
I understand if this isn’t your style, but I love it. I don’t think there’s ever been a song with so many quotable moments. Every line makes a statement that will get in your head. My personal favourite? “ I let him taste it, now he diabetic”.
5. Lost In Yesterday - Tame Impala
There’s a lot of songs on ‘The Slow Rush’ I like, but Lost In Yesterday I’ve always found kinda boring. It feels a little uninspired. Surprised that this was the album’s big hit.
4. Cherub - Ball Park Music*
BPM have released some great music over the decade but I think this is their best yet. It’s beautiful, emotional and has a fantastic, cathartic breakdown at the end. I love a good build up.
3. The Difference (feat. Toro y Moi) - Flume*
Everything about this track is why Flume has been so great for so long. This track is great for any situation. If I’m partying, I play it. If I’m relaxing, I play it. If I’m getting pumped up, I play it. If I’m sad, I play it. Flexibility matters.
2. Booster Seat - Spacey Jane
OHHH-OH-OHHHHHHHH AND IT FEELS LIKE THAT AGAIN! One of the best sing-a-long tracks of the year, yet massively emotional. Like damn this song is rough.
1. Heat Waves - Glass Animals*
If I had one word to express how I feel about this winning I would say “deserved”. Not many tracks were as perfect for 2020 as this one. Glass Animals love writing absolute bangers with emotional cores and this one is one of their strongest tracks. Glass Animals just continue to outdo themselves.
That’s it for now, gonna maybe start posting again. I dunno. See how I feel. Ta-ta.

D'you feel like Gorillaz has become more gentrified? Like, they've really reversed a lot of the character design from Phase 1 imo. I can sort of see where "soft boy Stu" is coming from; looking at Humility versus Tomorrow Comes Today, there has been a huge departure of character. Same with Noodle (who is showing more cleavage than any other phase) and Murdoc (who seems to take himself MUCH less seriously). What do you think?
Hi anon! This has been tough for me to answer because there’s such a tension in the fandom right now, and as ever, I’m sort of the most useless type of person who falls a bit in the middle. I’m just doing a bit of stream of consciousness here, so I’m sorry if it’s ever unclear!
To start, I want to clarify that I do understand what you mean by “gentrification” in a more colloquial media setting like this, and I don’t want to seem pedantic, or like I’m picking on you or disagreeing-- but for me, “gentrified” is not really the word I would use to describe Gorillaz. Again, that isn’t me try to point to the dictionary and contest the meaning on paper, words evolve with us as our usage of them evolves, and in this context I’d infer it as meaning the project is being made more profitable for white and upper-class voices at the chief cost of devaluing marginalized people. Now, I know we’re talking about the characters here, but... Gorillaz is always a bit weird to talk about because it’s such a multi-faceted project, and I do have some regretful feelings that the work of hundreds of people often goes dismissed in the full scale of the “is Gorillaz bad actually” conversation. I do apologize if it seems like I’m willfully misconstruing the question to push the subject, I promise that isn’t my intent and I’ll get back on topic-- it’s just something I’d like to express some appreciation over while we’re discussing the good and bad of the project. There aren’t many bands in existence, and none on their level of mainstream fame in the English-language market, who bring this many POC artists to the forefront, heavily featuring not just superstar crossover collaborators but smaller indie or unknown artists performing on a larger stage without being asked to compromise the culture in their music. The fact that Song Machine has three non-English languages featured on different tracks, including Xhosa, is pretty cool and not something you often stumble across. That doesn’t mean the band, real or fictional, is perfect by any stretch-- but I’ve never gotten the sense that the collaborators are being used by Gorillaz or asked to follow only what they’re told, but that the band backs the collaborators in making the music they bring to them.
I recognize that’s not entirely on topic for this question, but it’s sort of aimed at the broader conversations happening right now I guess. Like, we’ve all been seeing a lot of strong feelings about the band by now, haven’t we? So er, y’know, hot on the heels of this album, I just wanted to ramble about my opinion on the band’s side of it, and whether Gorillaz as a band has lost what makes them special. As far as the music goes, no, I don’t personally feel that way, so I’m still pretty jazzed on this album.
As for whether the characters have been moving in reverse or stagnating-- I’d have to agree, yes, I look at soft boy Stu and it feels pandering. That isn’t necessarily to discount that anything of value has come from Gorillaz since then, they’re just... rather inconsistent. Truthfully, it’s difficult to speak to because I do have to take into account that my vision of the characters isn’t really entirely in-line with canon, even the older canon, but is much less so with the newer stuff. I can’t say there aren’t moments that have frustrated me, between art or interviews-- and it’s the things I know earn me ire to express because it is a selfish want, it’s the cute stuff people like that I often don’t, and so I have to step back and assess what is an objectively (or as close to objective as we’ll get) disagreeable direction, and what simply doesn’t gel with what I want the characters to be. I think it’s very often the latter, but of course there’s part of me-- as there is with near everyone in the fandom-- who thinks that something I really dislike is inarguably not as compelling. On the flipside, there have been bits scattered here and there that did gel with my ideas of the characters (this refers primarily to Stu and Murdoc) that seemed completely reviled and rejected when they happened. Er, so the wishy-washy thing I’m getting at is: yes, Gorillaz is surely different. In particular Stu is written and drawn quite differently, to the extent that there is a completely fractured image in the fandom of what “in character” means for him, and I’m not always happy with everything we get. I’ve had to just “distance” myself from canon-- which, to be quite honest, even though this is a popular mindset with shippers I don’t actually say it with much pride. I do have a sense of embarrassment at how it sounds for me to say it “doesn’t matter” if it’s in-character when I guess I’ve wished that I was... I don’t know, doing some kind of good and thoughtful thing for the character and his potential, rather than just writing him as an OC, which is what it increasingly looks like I’m doing. (Hell, it increasingly is what I’m doing, and I don’t love to feel that way but in the effort of honesty I do recognize it.) For Murdoc, I don’t personally mind his presentation nearly as much, though I can see how he’s leaning more cartoony by the day. While there were some missed opportunities for better Debunked sessions, better interviews, or better videos, I haven’t been totally wrong-footed by him either. At worst, the jokes we’ve gotten from him have felt a bit toothless, and at best I’ve also felt like there were some winners in there. I’d be glad to simply ignore the “plot” around the portals, but even when engaging with it, I can see the idea behind having Murdoc aimlessly chase them-- maybe for profit, maybe for control, maybe just because they exist around him and it is his core driving need to take and to have. That isn’t to say it’s handled as well as it could be, but I sort of just... look past it to be frank with you, haha. It hasn’t been spoiling me on Murdoc, I suppose. That’s just my own feeling, though.
I’m staying optimistic that the almanac will have some funny Murdoc bits, but I’m more nervous about Stu’s parts of it. I have hopes and fingers crossed, but I also have a lot of fear based on the direction Stu’s gone in for a while now. Yes, it does bum me out quite a lot, I admit. Hope springs eternal, though, and I do still perhaps foolishly believe that Jamie and the writers have a bit more love for mumbling, zombie-faced, “a bit thick” laddish Stu than they do for the soft boy and they might make some efforts to give us something. Touch wood.
If I’m being honest though, despite taking issue with a lot of choices I haven’t lost my love of Gorillaz as a project partly because I sort of think we’ve had rose-tinted glasses toward previous phases, and there is some extent of editorializing that goes on about the band’s history. I think Gorillaz’s plot writing now is pretty bad, but I also think Gorillaz’s plot writing has always been pretty bad. I think it rides on the characters like it has always ridden on the characters, and it is uneven in that respect because it has always been uneven. I think these statements-- that it is worse now, and that it is not actually a steep decline-- both feel true for me, but I can’t say how true they feel for you! And that’s alright! Just my two cents. It’d be a lie to say I’m thrilled with everything over the past two years or so, but it’d also only be hurting myself to lean into the frustration and force myself to become more upset if I have the ability to compartmentalize and make my peace.
#long post#this isn't meant to step on toes! i just have some compacted feelings... which i shove down because i still enjoy a good joke#thank you for the question anon! i hope you know that i was not aiming to disagree or put words in your mouth!#Anonymous#i keep trying to insert a read more and it just isn't working so i'm v sorry about that

Can you give us some recommendations on pop punk??
For sure! keep in mind the genre is veryy loose. Most people associate it with newer bands like Brand New and Man Overboard, or 2000s bands like Sum 41, but honestly bands that could be considered “pop punk” have been around since punk in general. The 90′s is when it really took off with the help of labels like Lookout! Records. I tend to like more of the 90s, indie, or emo-leaning bands rather than, say, skate pop punk, for example.
Firstly: Camp Cope. They’re just amazing, full stop. Saw them last month and they gave an amazing performance.
Other bands:
Thin Lips -- Saw them with Camp Cope! They have a classic quality that manages to stand out at the same time. Were great live too!
The Donnas -- 90s band that took a lot of inspiration from The Ramones. I haven’t listened to their later stuff, but I listened to their self-titled a lot in high school
Diet Cig -- I’ve listened to the linked song soo many times. I love how the guitar sounds in their songs
The Muffs -- Another 90′s pop punk band. Their self-titled was one of my favorite albums for while. Kim Shattuck’s voice is unique and adds a nice contrast to the pop-y melodies
Tacocat -- I was more into them a couple years ago, but they are super catchy and fun and I still have this song and their cover of “Alien Girl” on my iPod
Cayetana -- Her voice is great... something grainy about it that appeals to me.
The Beths -- God I love them! Recently bought their album “Future Me Hates Me” and it’s one of my newer favorites
Moaning Lisa -- I’m obsessed with that song. Another Aussie band I’ve gotten into recently
The Eyeliners -- They’ve appeared on a few compilations I had back in the day. Pretty much convinced me to buy the album if they were on it because I’d be guaranteed at least one song I’d like
Mannequin Pussy -- I’ve been listening to them a lot lately. Their album Romantic is amazingg
Aye Nako -- Queer pop punk band that is bringing a refreshing sound to the genre imo
Lipstick Homicide -- godd i used to be obsessed with this album in high school. i think it holds up, too
Rainer Maria -- pretty in the emo subgenre, but yeah, the first time I heard “Lower Worlds” I already knew it was... something. Good something haha
Random bands: Tsunami Bomb, The Courtneys, Sports Bra, Dog Party, Swearin, Bangs, Mixtapes. I wouldn’t really consider Against Me pop punk, but they have their moments. Those are just the women-fronted bands too. “The Thing that Ate Larry Livermore” was my go-to compilation album back when I was in my pop punk phase, and I still love it (funnily enough, I’m wearing the shirt that I got with the record)
Also remember that older, classic bands would also fit under the label. So Descendents, Buzzcocks, The Ramones, Blondie, really a lot of the 70s NYC scene.
Sorry this took so long to respond, I’m just like that. I’m not an expert, obviously, but yeah, hope you found something you like!

idk if my newer followers realize just how new to kpop i am
the first kpop song i heard was hi high, not counting any kpop songs i might have heard before that, cause i didnt seek out more of the genre. hi high made me seek out more of the genre, so i count that as my first serious dive into kpop. anyway that was like a week or two before butterfly came out. i dont really count that as my first comeback though because i was only dabbling at that point, and butterfly’s release didnt mean a lot to me at the time (I WOULD KILL TO RELIVE THAT FIRST WATCH NOW). so actually, i still havent seen a comeback from a group im into yet lol. the only group that put out a new song since i had listened to them was izone, but it was violeta that converted me from just someone who had heard la vie en rose into a fan of izone, so that didnt really feel like much either haha. i cant wait to experience the hype.... wejifoweijfmoiwf i think the anticipation of pressing play on a new loona or dc or rv or f9 song would kill me.............
and like, for the first couple weeks, i didnt tell anyone haha. cause i mean, you know, sometimes you stay up really late at night watching a documentary about a serial killer out of morbid curiosity, but it doesnt mean youre gonna join the fucking true crime fandom. so i wasnt sure if checking out this “loona” i’d heard so much about would lead to anything. there came a point though where i had to face the facts and admit to myself “oh, i really, really like this”. i also had to overcome the stigma or whatever lol, and realize oh actually a lot of kpop is really musically interesting and not embarrassing at all. i imagine though that it’s like getting into anime all of a sudden in your 20s, as opposed to growing up a weeb like i did, cause even though there’s a lot of really poignant and impactful anime out there, the stigma is a lot haha.
also, this stuff is kinda out of the norm of what i normally listen to. well, actually, i would argue that it isnt, but it certainly does seem that way at a glance. i like a lot of extreme metal, punk rock, underground hiphop, etc, but i would argue that kpop has a lot of aspects that appeal to my sensibilities lol. first off, i was a diehard grimes fan until the elon musk hentai shit... when my fandom for her died hard, i guess lol. and there’s a lot of similar stuff to her music in kpop, whether its the fact that she was influenced by kpop, or it’s like with loona, where they were hugely influenced by grimes and have stated that even before “featuring” her on a song. i like stuff like purity ring, the knife/fever ray, and idk other electronic stuff too, so honestly kpop wasnt a big shock to my system, it just *seems* that way when you look at how much i love loona vs how much i love an album from the blackened death metal band behemoth called ‘the satanist’ so much that i went to see them in boston cause they were playing that album in its entirety. it was a bad show full of sweaty dudes, but that’s not important right now. but a lot of kpop, especially girl groups it seems, appeals to my electronic sensibilities haha. and you know, i wasnt expecting that. i’d heard jpop idol groups before, and i thought kpop would give me the same kind of uncomfortable leery creepy feeling i get from watching those music videos, but no, what i found was very a very immersive and deep pop sound with a ton of variety. even within groups... like not only are a lot of groups very distinct from each other, but even within the discographies of those groups, they vary a lot and play around with their sound.
but anyway, this has gone on for too long
i’m still really new to all this, just a little over two months, right? i hope that doesnt make my blog like inauthentic or whatever haha. i can tell this is the kind of thing i’ll be into for a long time. even if my focus is elsewhere, like, even if in a year or so i’m really into some obscure tv show or something, and im not really listening to much music day-to-day, if i hear there’s a new loona comeback on the way you know i’m gonna pay attention to that, the same way that even though im not in a pokemon-mode rn i still pay attention to what’s going on with it. and i think its really cool to have found another form of media that’s gonna be a lifelong love i think. even if i fall off of kpop in general, the music ive found in the last two months is stuff i dont think i’ll stop loving any time soon.
#its late#i started writing this about an hour ago#i got sidetracked#you can probably tell#in the writing of it#but im not gonna proofread#its just thoughts

Um so yeah.
I got a new chromebook which is legit one of the best investments I’ve made in quite a while. One problem, I don’t remember my newer tumblr password and email I had set up for my happy new account. So I am stuck here with an older tumblr I made years upon years ago. I was browsing through some of the archive posts and ugh was I whiny little pain in the butt complaining about such stupid things. Anyways! I thought it might be kinda fun perhaps to do a survey that I did in 2013, yes 2013 oh my that seems ages ago. My plan is to have my original answer on top followed by the 2019 answer below it. Because why not? Here we go!
1: Do you sleep with your closet doors open or closed? The closet must be closed! Still closed please.
2: Do you take the shampoos and conditioner bottles from hotel? Sometimes. Not as often as I used, because I honestly don’t ever use it. lol
3: Do you sleep with your sheets tucked in or out? Out? In because that’s how Dan likes it.
4: Have you ever stolen a street sign before? No. Nope.
5: Do you like to use post-it notes? Sometimes. Sure, I leave Dan random notes in the morning if I wake up first.
6: Do you cut out coupons but then never use them? I get coupons but sometimes I don't use them. Haha my above answer tells me two things I wasn’t worried about money in 2013 and I didn’t probably understand the question. So yeah, sometimes that will happen when they expire before I get the chance to use them.
7: Would you rather be attacked by a big bear or a swarm of a bees? Neither sound great so I guess a big bear sounds more interesting. I’ll agree with my 2013 answer.
8: Do you have freckles? I have some. Last I checked I am the same girl, so I have some.
9: Do you always smile for pictures? Usually. Sure, unless I am being told otherwise.
10: What is your biggest pet peeve? I have two major ones, people snapping gum and not messaging someone back. Snapping gum is still up there and people slurping soup obnoxiously.
11: Do you ever count your steps when you walk? Not really. Um not physically, but my phone does. Thanks Google Fit!
12: Have you ever peed in the woods? Nope. Still no.
13: What about pooped in the woods? Again nope. Still no lol.
14: Do you ever dance even if there’s no music playing? Yeah. Of course!
15: Do you chew your pens and pencils? Not usually, but sometimes I'll chew on a pen. Still sometimes I will chew a pen.
16: How many people have you slept with this week? Zero. One.
17: What size is your bed? Queen. Queen, but now I share it with Dan.
18: What is your Song of the week? Runaway- iio. Goodness I have no idea.
19: Is it okay for guys to wear pink? Yeah. Since when are certain colors unacceptable for certain people? I like that answer. Good job 2013 Christina. :)
20: Do you still watch cartoons? I don’t really watch a lot of TV. Nope.
21: Whats your least favorite movie? I am not really big on the Hunger Games. Still accurate or scary movies would be an accurate answer.
22: Where would you bury hidden treasure if you had some? Wait…why would I want to bury hidden treasure. Dan’s safe?
23: If you’re a girl, bra size? If you’re a guy, pants size? 34 B 32-34 B depends on the bra. lol
24: What do you dip a chicken nugget in? Plain or honey mustard. I like those previous answers, but I do sometimes like BBQ.
25: What is your favorite food? Some type of chicken with a bread coating. Chicken and dumplings from Cracker Barrel with carrots and green beans!
26: What movies could you watch over and over and still love? Love and Other Drugs, Crazy Stupid Love, Easy A, Something Borrowed. So chick flicks I guess. Crazy Stupid Love is still in my top favorite movies ever.
27: Last person you kissed/kissed you? Jeffrey. Eww I am sorry 2013 Christina that sucks. Anyways, Dan!
28: Were you ever a boy/girl scout? I was girl scout back in the day. Still a true statement.
29: Would you ever strip or pose nude in a magazine? Eh I don't know. I am no model, so no. 30: When was the last time you wrote a letter to someone on paper? On paper? A while ago. I write Dan little notes in the mornings sometimes. Does that count? 31: Can you change the oil on a car? Nope. Still nope. 32: Ever gotten a speeding ticket? Surprisingly no. Warning, yes. lol 33: Ever ran out of gas? Close, but no. Nope!
34: Favorite kind of sandwich? Turkey and swiss with spinach toasted. Grilled cheese!
35: Best thing to eat for breakfast? French Toast or Waffles. French Toast sounds lovely.
36: What is your usual bedtime? Unpredictable. Still accurate, but now it depends on if Dan is around or not. 37: Are you lazy? More than some would think. I can be. 38: When you were a kid, what did you dress up as for Halloween? I don’t even know. Probably a princess. 39: What is your Chinese astrological sign? I believe I am a sheep. Correct. 40: Are you horny? No. Not really. 41: Do you have any magazine subscriptions? No. Yep, Cosmo. And it’s annoying they send out the following month way too early all the time. 42: Which are better legos or lincoln logs? I could care less. Still true.
43: Are you stubborn? I some ways. Kinda. 44: Who is better…Leno or Letterman? Letterman. Still true hence why Letterman is still on the air? 45: Ever watch soap operas? Sometimes Spanish ones with Rach and her roommates. Nope. 46: Are you afraid of heights? Not as much. What kinda of answer was that back then? lol. Anyways, no height fear really. 47: Do you sing in the car? All the time. Duh, gotta keep it fun. 48: Do you sing in the shower? Not really. I hum though. Still true. 49: Do you dance in the car? Yeah. That’s probably not safe… Hahaha still guilty of that. 50: Ever used a gun? Nope, I want to do it sometime though just to say I shot a gun. Hahaha 2013 would never have thought I’d say I am pretty fucking accurate with an AR-15. 51: Last time you got a portrait taken by a photographer? Does summer count? Jen took my picture. Christmas of 2015 lol. 52: Do you think musicals are cheesy? Some can be. Usually. 53: Is Christmas stressful? Not really, but this year I’ll be working the holiday season so we shall reassess. Nope. I love Christmas. 54: Ever eat a pierogi? Had to look that up. Yes, I have I think my friend Elly introduced me to them. Yeah, not my type of thing. 55: Favorite type of fruit pie? Cherry or Dutch Apple. 56: Occupations you wanted to be when you were a kid? Teacher. I don’t know anymore and I am 27. Oops. 57: Do you believe in ghosts? Eh debatable. Sure. 58: Ever have a Deja-vu feeling? Many times. I had one just the other day. Yeah I had one the other day. Wait that’s funny that was my reply before. 59: Take a vitamin daily? I take multivitamins. I still do, but currently out. lol 60: Wear slippers? Nah. Barefoot is preferred. 61: Wear a bath robe? Rarely. Unless I am super cold. Nah. 62: What do you wear to bed? Yoga pants and a t-shirt. T-shirt and panties. lol 63: First concert? Paramore. Still true.
64: Wal-Mart, Target or Kmart? Target, but Wal-Mart is closer. Target. 65: Nike or Adidas? I don’t care. Under Amour? 66: Cheetos Or Fritos? Eh…neither. Haha still good answer. 67: Peanuts or Sunflower seeds? Sunflower seeds since I can’t do peanuts. Neither.
68: Ever hear of the group Tres Bien? No? What? 69: Ever take dance lessons? I did a few times. Did I? Hmm sure okay. I did in the past. 70: Is there a profession you picture your future spouse doing? Lawyer. Business owner.
71: Can you curl your tongue? Yes. Yep! 72: Ever won a spelling bee? Never participated. Nope I am not very good at spelling complicated stuff. 73: Have you ever cried because you were so happy? It has happened on occasion. Sure. 74: Own any record albums? No. Nope. 75: Own a record player? No. Nope. 76: Regularly burn incense? No. Nope. 77: Ever been in love? Yes. Yes. 78: Who would you like to see in concert? Matchbox Twenty, Google Dolls, Drake, Justin Timberlake, The Weekend, Linkin Park, The XX, and many more. I know weird mix there. Drake? 79: What was the last concert you saw? Grad night, Paramore. Same. 80: Hot tea or cold tea? I prefer cold tea. Ice tea! 81: Tea or coffee? Coffee, but I do like tea on occasion. Coffee 99% of the time. 82: Sugar or snickerdoodles? Yummy both please. Don’t make chose. 83: Can you swim well? Eh debatable. I’ve gotten better. lol 84: Can you hold your breath without holding your nose? Yes. Yes. 85: Are you patient? Most of the time. 50-50 depends on what. 86: DJ or band, at a wedding? Either would be fine, but a live band would be awesome. DJ, Cheaper, duh lol. 87: Ever won a contest? A few times. Yep! 88: Ever have plastic surgery? I am 22 so no. Nah, I am good. 89: Which are better black or green olives? Eww no thanks. *pukes* No no no. 90: Can you knit or crochet? My mom tried teaching me how to crochet. Still wanting to learn one day either one. 91: Best room for a fireplace? A living room? Still going to go with living room. 92: Do you want to get married? I don’t know anymore, I hope so. I do, lol. 93: If married, how long have you been married? (Not applicable) Same lol 94: Who was your HS crush? Mark fucking Andrew. Ugh that’s still true. But here’s a plot twist though he married someone I know and I see his picture on FB all the time because she posts pictures of them. I am not phased anymore. So victory? For me at least. 95: Do you cry and throw a fit until you get your own way? No. But I have though before though. Haha apparently. 96: Do you have kids? No. Nope. 97: Do you want kids? I would be ok not having kids for a while. No thanks. 98: Whats your favorite color? Purple! Purple!!! 99: Do you miss anyone right now? Yeah extremely. Yes.
100. What do you hear right now? My Drake station on Pandora playing a Lil Wayne song. No Limit- G Easy ft Cardi B and A$AP Rocky

Favorite Musician: Though I’ve looked up to Joey Jordison for a long long time I gotta say Jack Stauber because the stuff he creates is just so cool and wild! And it jams!
Favorite Song: This changes constantly so I don’t really know, there’s just so many good songs I have no clue how I’m supposed to pick
Favorite Genre: I normally gravitate to metal/rock but I really like just music in general. The song matters more then the genre to me
Favorite instrument: bass bby
Favorite era of music: 80’s-90’s
Favorite years of music: around the same eras I guess?
Least favorite genre: I’d say rap? It’s mostly cause every at home and school listen to nothing but the newer rap or hip-hop so I’ve kinda just gotten tired of it

oh my god you play in a band ? i just discovered you and obviously love your fic !
please tell us more about you, your band and your full time work if you want 🫶
hey there! thank you so, so much! <3
indeed I am in a band! I do lead vocals and rhythm guitar, and I write most of our songs! we've been a band for about 5 years now and have an album out. we took a brief hiatus during quarantine, but now we're back and working on our second album/EP. our first album was, in a blanket term, indie rock/pop, drawing on a lot of different inspirations. but our newer stuff is shaping up to be faster, louder, and more angsty, which we're really excited about. :)
I don't know if I want to share my band name or too much personal info about myself. I kind of like the anonymity this blog gives me to just sort of...express the weird shit on my mind and have no one know who it comes from lol. maybe down the line I'll be more open about my music and myself...I work a boring office job, sadly, but I will say that my ABSOLUTE dream is to make a living playing music. my parents even met by playing in the same band, mom being a singer and multi-instrumentalist and dad being a drummer, so I always feel like I was just destined to be a musician too lol. I also love acting as well, and would love to see myself on screen one day. unfortunately, that's a bit harder to get anywhere with than playing music haha. but I stay optimistic.

omg i really loved your reply about the luke/5sos question and believe me i totally get it, i cant listen to place in me without crying and diamonds just called me out on so many levels. Luke really did something with that album that i still cant put into words, is just feels like a hug but like a stab at the same time haha.
And yeaah it totally makes sense that you like the newer 5sos better if you like wfttwtaf because is more pop than punk/rock, i felt ancient when you called ghost of you old!!! I remeber crying to it for an hour straight the day the album came out.
hope you can get into liking 5sos as a band, maybe no the first two albums cuz the sound dramatically different but yeah (i love the second one, the songwriting is just wonderful). Is never too late, you know? The band is turning ten on December 3rd and the fifth album is coming next year!
Also if you like, you could listen to Ashton Irwin’s solo music too (the drummer of the band) it is really different to Luke’s but is so funny and interesting to see both or their sounds coming together in 5sos music
Anyway you really don’t need to reply to this, i dont want to spam your nice tumblr page. i just wanted to show you that i appreciated your previous reply a lot :) sorry for the rambling too
"luke's album feels like a hug but a stab at the same time" honestly so true? when i listen to some of the songs on his album, i feel like he's digging into the most complicated, difficult feelings people can feel + make them feel valid and yet ouchie ouchie ouchie
but !! aaaah, thank you for the music rec!! and oh, i'm excited that they're coming out with a new album, because i've definitely been wanting to get into more of their stuff lately.
#answered#anon#and i'm very glad that you appreciated my reply haha it felt so rambly#but yes i was very excited to talk about it bc !! ! ! ! good music GOOD MUSIC

Cranking Up the Gain with Neverdie’s Tani Cariño and Bren Pasamba
NEVERDIE might be over, but hopefully, posting my gear feature about them isn’t too late. I’ve seen these guys around, and I’m really impressed with what they‘ve done as a unit. They brought the house down the moment they played the first set in their second to the last April 14 at Saguijo, Makati. They played their last gig the week after at Mow’s, Matalino, Quezon City. The energy and power these guys shared onstage is something I strive to have with the gigs I play. In this gig, I made some new friends with guitarists Tani Cariño and Bren Pasamba.
(This interview was done last month, the week after Garage Morning’s gig with them)
Fun Fact: their bassist Lip Dalangin is my trusted luthier, as well as with my band Garage Morning.
How did you start making music and playing guitar?
Tani: I started in the late 90’s after my older brother taught me how to play “Basket Case” by Green Day. I guess after that it’s never been the same.
Bren: Originally I wanted to play the drums, but a kit was too expensive and our house at the time wasn't big enough to have space for one... or handle the noise. So as a compromise my mom borrowed an old classical guitar for me instead. But my first real guitar was a Rockstar classical guitar where I learned and played Eraserheads songs.
How did your band start out?
Tani: Neverdie started out as a skate crew. After accumulating enough guys in the crew we decided to form a band. I guess after the last show, we’ll go back to being a skate crew.
Bren: I wasn't supposed to be part of Neverdie initially, just a seessionist. But since my schedule was more flexible, I got in haha.
Who are your main influences? And how did they inspire you to play better?
Tani: I’m a huge Blink guy so my first primary influence would be Tom DeLonge and Mark Hoppus. I also took a bunch of ideas from Rufio, Mock Orange and Moneen. More recently, I’ve been influenced by bands like Title Fight, Transit, You Blew It! and The Menzingers.
All these bands are quite melodic in the midst of grit which is what I lean more into. I love the melodic stuff and I always try to listen to new bands so I can get new ideas from them. My foundation for riffs are the Tom DeLonge influenced ones then I just expand from there.
Bren: As a kid my main influences were Ely Buendia and Tom DeLonge haha. But as I grew older and started discovering more music (thanks to Myspace and Limewire) it introduced me to those who influence my music and playing now. From the top of my head: Taking Back Sunday's John Nolan, Brand New's Jesse Lacey, George Harrison, Nothing's Brandon Setta, Title Fight's Jamie Rhoden, Mong and Diego from andwich, Steve and Pakoy from Typecast, David Gilmour, and Kevin Shields, the guys from You Blew It!, The Flatliners, Joyce Manor, and lastly Beast Jesus' Francis Maria and Raphael Pulgar are my inspirations to play although I'm aware it doesn't show in my playing haha. Listening to the songs they've made just inspire me to play in general, nothing in the terms of technique or technicality, pero their playing gets me in the mood to play.
Tell us more about your music.
Tani: Aside from Neverdie, I also play in Irrevocable and Lindenwood. Unfortunately, both Neverdie and Lindenwood are currently calling it a day for different reasons. I personally felt that us in Neverdie just overstayed our welcome. We decided to just finish the band off and start a new band with a slightly different sound. It’ll be our last show / 2nd full length release on April 21 at Mow’s.
As for Lindenwood, our vocalist just decided he wanted to try different things outside of music. Maybe at some point we’ll be back but at the moment it’ll be good for us to take a break. We put out a full length last year.
I’m currently active in Irrevocable which is a band my girlfriend is also in. Featuring members of Nyctinasty (now 3/3), Behind Bears, Beast Jesus, Past Forward, The Oemons, Browse in Bridge and Disquiet Apartment. We have a Singapore show and an album release coming up. We’re planning more fly shows after that so I hope we pull through!
Bren: Neverdie has and always has been a pop punk band though we are and have been influenced by math rock, emo, post-hardcore, hardcore, etc. So whatever happens after, it will be in the same spectrum. As for my future plans, hopefully I get a job soon after my masters because I've been eyeing so many guitars and pedals online haha. GAS is too strong.
Tell us about your guitars. Which is your favorite one and why?
Tani: I’ve been a Tele player for the longest time but I’ve recently started using Rickenbackers for many reasons. I like how not a lot of people use them and they sound different. I do have to work harder to make them sound amazing but it’s always a great pay off. They’re durable as well because of the all maple build. Here’s my current lineup of guitars:
1) 2000 Rickenbacker Fireglo 330 – My first Rick. I was actually supposed to trade a bunch of guitars for a 60’s American Vintage Tele but when I saw this in the room of the guy I was trading with, I asked him I could grab this instead and he agreed. Rickenbacker stopped using Bubinga for their fretboards so I’m stoked I was able to grab one. I also got lucky with this one because it has the Toaster pickups.
2) 2014 Rickenbacker Blue Boy 330 – If you ask me, it looks more like a Seafoam Green 330. This one has the High Gain pickups and the newer Caribbean Rosewood fretboard. I like Bubinga but I actually prefer the color and feel of the Caribbean Rosewood more plus it’s sustainable.3) 2007 Rickenbacker Blue Burst 360 – I actually had to ask around for this guitar because I saw the dude from Oh Flamingo! use it. He borrowed it from a friend and I sent that dude a message. This one has the High Gain pickups and Bubinga fretboard. To me, if my 330s feels like a Gibson 335 then this one feels more like a Les Paul.
3) 2007 Rickenbacker Blue Burst 360 – I actually had to ask around for this guitar because I saw the dude from Oh Flamingo! use it. He borrowed it from a friend and I sent that dude a message. This one has the High Gain pickups and Bubinga fretboard. To me, if my 330s feels like a Gibson 335 then this one feels more like a Les Paul.
4) 2008 Fender Custom Shop Custom Classic Telecaster – My first Custom Shop. I fitted a Miles Anodized Gold pickguard in it. It has the premium ash 1 pc body and the flamed maple neck. Serial number says it’s made in 2005 but the paperwork says it’s 2008. Easily the best Telecaster I’ve ever owned.
5) 2015 Fender Mexico Classic Series 72’ Telecaster Custom – A birthday gift from my folks. I got this in Tom Lee HK. It’s heavily modified at this point. I added Graphtech string trees, Graphtech 3 barrrel saddles, 1 meg pots on the neck, a Bareknuckle flat ’52 on the bridge. I might get a Wide Range neck pickup that’s spec’d more like the vintage ones down the road.
6) 2011 Fender Mexico Blacktop Telecaster – Another birthday gift from my folks. I got this in Tom Lee HK as well. Also, heavily modified at this point. I added Graphtech string trees, Graphtech 6 saddles, Graphtech Nut, Tesla PAF on the neck, Seymour Duncan Prails on the bridge, anodized black Miles pickguard, Ernie Ball knobs. I have a Bareknuckle humbucker sized P90 on the way and I’ll be fitting it on here. I’m also thinking of swapping out the tuners for the locking ones.
7) 2014 Miles Interloper – I have a guitar business called Miles (currently in hiatus) and this is the first prototype. It’s a Jazzmaster body with a telecaster neck. Fitted with a roller bridge, tune-o-matic stoptail, one volume knob and, Seymour Duncan Jazzmaster Antiquities. Pine body and a maple neck with a kamagong fretboard. I used this on the road so much. It’s pretty beat up so it’s retired at this point.
As for favorites, at the moment it’s both 330s and the Custom Shop Tele. All guitars are fitted with DiMarzio Cliplocks and Elixir Nanoweb strings.
Bren: Initially I was a Les Paul guy until Tani forced everyone in Neverdie to get Telecasters. Prior to that I always dreamt of getting a Les Paul though my first guitar was a Strat copy (which I think is the most common starting point for beginners?). But I discovered and fell in love with Offset guitars, particularly Jazzmasters. I love how they look and feel being a bigger guy. I have a White and tort Squier VM Jaguar, a Red and Tort Squier VM Jazzmaster, a Black and tort Riverhead Jazzmaster, a Miles Guitars Interloper (Telemaster), a Black on Black MICSIS Custom Jazzblaster, and a Black and Gold Fender Blacktop Jazzmaster, my "Number 1", on my rotation. But my current favorites are my Stratocasters. I fell back into them a year ago thanks to Nothing. Whenever I feel like switching things up I use either my Black on Black MIM Fender Squier series Stratocaster or a Cream on tort MIJ Fender Stratocaster. I bought a white on mint SX Stratocaster on a whim because I loved the color haha though I've never used it. Still on the hunt for a Telecustom haha.
Let’s take a look at your pedalboard. What effects do you use live?
I used to run with a bigger pedalboard but after doing one fly show wherein I had to pay for my overweight baggage, I decided it wasn’t worth it anymore especially since I always bring my amps to non-fly shows anyway. Nowadays, I just run with a boost, a small reverb that’s maxed out to act both like a delay and a normal reverb depending on the situation, an amp based OD (or parametric EQ), a tuner and a wireless rig.
For this year, the mainstays on my board are the following:
Shure PGX14 Wireless Unit – My dad gave this to me as a birthday gift back in 2006 if I’m not mistaken. It’s the piece of gear that I’ve had the longest and still use to this day.
Korg Mini Tuner – I’ve been using regular sized Korg Pitchblacks for awhile now so going with the mini tuner just made sense especially since I downsized. I absolutely hate clip on tuners for live use so I just prefer pedal tuners as they react faster.
Vitoos ISO8 – I only got this last week. It’s my first time using an Isolated PSU since I recently got a pedal that requires it. Most PSU’s are made in China so I had no issue with getting a relatively unknown brand. It’s my second Vitoos PSU and I’ve always had a great experience with them. Also helpful when you need to play shows in other countries that don’t use the same power voltage you normally do since it’s rated internationally. Get one at Guitar Pusher. Highly recommended!
Orange Two Stroke – Another pedal I just got this year. I’ve been eyeing this one for awhile now but I couldn’t pull the trigger just yet because It was so confusing to use then one day I just decided to go for it and I’ve been using it ever since. It’s a great Parametric EQ / Clean Boost pedal which dials my tone better and makes use of my amp more. Orange amps are typically dark amps so I use this to raise a bit of the high mids. Probably the most versatile pedal I have because it can do so much it’s insane. You can place it anywhere on the board, you can use it for acoustic or bass, you can turn your single coil guitar into a humbucker or vice versa, you can use it as a regular OD or boost pedal, etc etc. Highly recommended!
For my boost, I switch between a bunch of Wamplers (Euphoria, Pinnacle, Plexi Drive), a 65 Pedals Colour Boost and, a JHS Superbolt. For future fly shows, I might use two Wamplers instead of the Two Stroke. One for boost and the other to act as my preamp since I can’t bring my amps with me. I also have an Orange Amp Detonator which is an ABY pedal. I haven’t used it live but I will if I’m suddenly lacking one guitar player in any band I am. I also use Lava cables.
I also have a separate board at home. I just plug in my live board beside it. For my home board I have a NUX JTC Looper on that for practicing and writing songs. I also have one of the ODs above on it as well so I can play with different tones at home.
Bren: From the guitar I go into my Devi Ever Hyperion to my Snark Tuner then to a Diamond J-Drive MK3, to a TC Electronic Flashback X4, to a TC Electronic Hall of Fame Reverb. This is where my board really ends, but I have 2 loopers at the end: a TC Electronic Ditto and a Boss RC-3. The Ditto I use at home when just playing around, and the RC-3 I use live as a sampler, for comic relief haha.
I’ve seen Tani bring this amazing Orange TH30 Head with a 4x12 cab. What amps do you use at home and live?
Tani: It’s actually a 4x10 cab and I love how it looks like a 4x12. I only started using 10”s last December 2017. I find that the 10” speakers have more detail compared to a 12” so that’s what I’ve been using recently.
I still use my TH30 head and 4x10 cab at home as well as an Orange CR120 head, Orange Dual Terror and an Orange 2x12 open back cabinet. My tube driven Orange heads are setup to have more head room. I placed a 12AT7 tube in the first gain stage rather than a 12AX7 to give the amps a bit more breathing room. All the Orange gear I have sound great both on stage and at low volumes. Tough as nails too.
Bren: I currently have an Ibanez TSA15H paired with a Miles 1x12 Cabinet with Eminence Red White and Blues and an Orange Tiny Terror with an Orange 1x12 Cabinet. I primarily use the Oranges, and mix it up with an Orange Micro Terror as a back-up when I'm feeling lazy. I also have an old Kustom 2x12 Cabinet but it is too bulky to bring to shows.
What are you listening to right now?
Tani: A new record by a band called Fiddlehead released last week called “Springtime and Blind” featuring members of Have Heart and Basement. Scott Sellers of Rufio also put out something new called “The Judge”.
Bren: I've been listening to The Wonder Years’ new album since it came out. Then on rotation I have Daniel Caesar, Citizen, Basement, Modern Baseball, Code Orange and Knuckle Puck when driving. Also Hop Along's new album is good too. I also discovered this new band yesterday called Any Name's Okay, they're good haha. Yeah so far they're who I listen to on a daily basis nowadays.
What advice can you give to your fellow guitar players and musicians who want to play like you do?
Bren: My advice for other players and myself is stop comparing your playing to other people. It'll help you find your own "voice", but it'll help you relax as well as a person and as a musician. Just relax and be comfortable in your own skin... or fingers haha. Learn from those you watch and who's around you, don't compete because it really isn't a competition haha.
Tani: Never skimp out on tuners. Get a high quality pedal tuner because the cheaper ones just don’t react as fast. The more time you tune on stage, the less time you have to play so make sure to get one that tracks well. I’ve had a good experience with the Snark Tuner pedal. I think that’s the cheapest tuner pedal that can track almost as well as a Pitchblack.
Avoid displaying guitars in your room. Keep them in a case when not being used. Always check everything in your gear if it works before the show. Bring a back-up of a back-up because you never know if something will go wrong. Study your gear well to a point that you know if it’s making noise, you can instantly pinpoint the problem. Buy a can of contact cleaner. If it’s making noise, it’s most likely dirty. A quick spray of contact cleaner will usually do the trick.
Practicing regularly with the band is important but it’s also important to practice how to setup and tear down your rig the fastest way possible. I absolutely hate it when bands take so long to setup and tear down.
If you’re going to try and play like someone, don’t just pick one and try to keep an open mind so that you can find your own style in playing.
Most importantly, have fun. If you’re in a band that writes original songs, don’t focus on profit or even if people will like it. Write songs that YOU will like.
