#Sam is the main character of Stargate… to me

Saw the comment a while back that Sam “collects brothers like Pokémon” and my brain chirped this Siblings AU out like a dot matrix printer:

Sam - Oldest sister, but not the oldest sibling. Has eldest daughter syndrome. Brilliant and has no problem keeping up with the boys, but often saddled with additional physical and emotional responsibilities/burdens. Both within the family (at first) and societally, she keeps being pigeonholed as “The Girl” and has to fight it tooth and nail.

Teal’c - Oldest brother. Half-brother from a prior relationship. Big age gap. Bit of a culture difference due to the other side of his family. His name is from his other parent’s culture. He took the English name “Murray” for professional reasons, but his younger half-sibs are all good eggs and use his true name. Was the only child for a long time before the younger batch came along. Recognizes and respects Sam’s efforts and always treats her as an equal.

Cam - Older brother. But only by like a year or two. Oldest full sibling and left the household as soon as possible for school/work, but came back into the fold later. Not as close with the siblings when he first came back and had to rebuild the relationship. He knows everything about them on paper but had to work to emotionally connect. Technically, he’s the oldest of the full-sibs, but he defers to Sam and her experience. More like co-captains.

Daniel - Sam’s twin. Her partner in crime. Closest of all the siblings. But she’s 7 and a half minutes older and never lets him forget it. Equally brilliant but in different ways. Always ready to sass with each other. But while Sam was parentified, he was more free, being a younger son and all. Since Sam bears more familial responsibility, Daniel is more able to follow his heart and go outside the lines.

Vala - Younger sister. She and Sam didn���t get along when they were little; she resisted Sam’s attempts at parenting (not realizing until she was older that the parentification was forced on Sam). The black sheep. The rebellious one who left the house at a young age and got herself into some heinous situations out in the world. After returning home, her relationship with Sam is strained and awkward at first, but the two eventually grow close.

Jonas - Baby brother. Wildly intelligent and a bit sheltered. The optimist. Even more of an idealist than Daniel and that’s saying something. Brings out the best in all of his siblings. Sam is protective of him… but she’s still his sister and she’s still gonna give him a hard time now and again, that’s just what siblings do.

Bonus:

I have permanent samjack shipping goggles welded to my face and I am physically incapable of seeing Jack as a sibling/blood relative, so…

Jack - Oldest brother Teal’c’s best friend. Meets Daniel long before he meets Sam and after a rocky start to the friendship, he ends up close with Daniel too. Hears all about her from the boys, but doesn’t meet Sam until later. Even in a version of this AU with no military regs, there’s still a barrier between them; the age gap and the fact that she’s the sister of his friends makes a relationship between them taboo. At first. They get over it.

It cannot be said enough, the majority of the Stargate fandom do NOT want a reboot! We want a continuation of the previous series! Even if it’s a new cast for another SG team going through the Stargate, do NOT reboot it! A new main team but with our beloved characters from SG-1 and Atlantis having recurring rolls in it would be fine! Of course, we’d love it to be all of our favourite characters coming back for a new series/movie and being the main characters again, but, not to be rude, those people are getting older now.

All we need is a continuation of the previous series, or a movie, but they need to be in the same canon we know and love. If they decide to completely reboot Stargate I will not be watching it. I want to see where our favourite characters are now, we need confirmation that they’re happy and living their best lives. And, for all us shippers out here, we need to see Sam and Jack together officially! We need confirmation!

To be honest, I’d be happy with a new SG-1 movie where they go on one last mission together, save the universe, and live happily ever after. But it needs to show where they are in their lives are now. To me, one last hurrah with SG-1 (including Jack) would be perfect, but we need to know what happened with the unresolved story lines and things that were hinted at but never confirmed.

Hi, I just recently heard about Stargate Atlantis and found out it used to be pretty popular(?) I've never heard of it before but it looks interesting. Do you mind telling me what it's about? And would you recommend it?

OH MY GOSH, YES!

Okay, so, do you remember Elizabeth Weir, who was a foreign communications expert or something in SG-1 and was going to take over the SGC? Well, anyway, she is the leader of the Atlantis expedition(but it's a different actress). She takes a large group of Marines, Airforce, scientists, archeologists, etc. through the Stargate to Atlantis in the Pegasus Galexy(8 chevrons).

They get to Atlantis, and it is a giant city built by the Ancients. It is currently submerged under water when they arrive, and they have to figure out how to raise it before the whole thing gets flooded.

Throughout the show, they have to fight a new kind of villain like the Goa'uld called the Wraith. The Wraith basically suck the life out of people with a sucker thing on their palm.

There are camios of the original team throughout. Sam shows up the most.

Stargate Atlantis takes place during and after SG-1. If you remember, near the end of SG-1, the team goes to Atlantis looking for something that will help with the Ori.

I really hope this is what you wanted. This is a great show. It's 5 seasons long, so not as long as SG-1 but just as good. John Shepherd is my favorite, and I can never get enough of Carson Beckett. I definitely recommend!

I will also let you know that there is another show called Stargate Universe. It is 2 seasons and didn't do well. I haven't watched all of it(I've only seen episode 1). It's a lot more drama than action(my dad told me. He watched at least season 1).

There is also an animation... it's called Stargate: Infinity. I don't remember how many seasons there are, and I haven't watched it but have been meaning to...

Trick or treat! (Stargate SG-1 edition, especially any fic ideas or headcanons)

Okay so I don't know if this will turn out as a headcanon, a fic idea, an outline, or something in-between BUT what it mostly is is an Excuse. :P So here goes

The first time Teal'c watches Star Wars, the team's been grounded for a week. Don't ask me why - maybe the Gate's shut down, maybe Jack and Sam have leave, maybe Daniel's been exposed to a strange space pathogen and is in isolation while they wait to see if it's deadly. Important thing is, they don't have missions and Teal'c (it's early days still) isn't allowed off-base.

Sam pokes her head in his room with a set of VHS tapes and says, "Hey, I brought some Earth culture you might be interested in!" Explains that Star Wars is a classic and even if he doesn't like them, it'll still be useful to know the references.

Teal'c, very bored and always willing to hang out with one of his comrades, agrees.

He likes Episode IV. There's good vs evil. They're fighting an evil space empire! He gets to see what kind of space combat the Tau'ri have made up for their stories.

He thinks it's kind of...charmingly idealistic? Like, there's an Evil Oppressive Space Empire but there's still enough freedom for Luke to have his ideals and Leia to have a government position (they HAVE a government?) and even Han gets to choose whether he wants to fight the Empire or just slip under its radar. It's a little hard for Teal'c to relate to, but he enjoys it. It seems very much like his friends' views of the world.

Obi-Wan reminds him of Bra'tac. :) Vader reminds him of Apophis. >:/ Teal'c sees something of his team in the main characters.

Episode V! Sam is Very Excited.

Vader is still alive? Teal'c is disappointed by what, honestly, seems like an incursion of reality. Why won't the evil galactic rulers ever ACTUALLY die when they look like they've died.

He's invested in all the action on Hoth, though. These heroes still read as very Tau'ri to him, with their emphasis on loyalty to their friends and their hope and all that. He wants them to succeed.

He does guess the Yoda reveal. A little too similar to the Nox. :P

Then it's back to Darth Vader on his evil spaceship and

Ah

Um

Darth Vader goes down on one knee and asks "What is thy bidding, my master?"

And they've taken plenty of pauses before while watching these movies, so Sam can answer questions about effects or plot conventions or other things lost in cultural translation, but this time when Teal'c says "Pause," he doesn't really have anything to ask. Just, "That...is the Emperor?"

Sam says, "Yeah," and they keep going. But suddenly the fun Tau'ri escapist fantasy is a little harder to watch, as Teal'c processes the fact that the villain of the piece to date isn't actually a System Lord.

Darth Vader is a First Prime.

Everything Vader does now leads to new questions Teal'c isn't sure the story even thinks it's raising. Like, does he want to be doing this? and Does he think he has a choice? and Why is he doing it? and How did he get to this position?

Teal'c watches Vader torture Han and tries not to think about his own past.

And then. AND THEN. You know what comes next.

(Turns out the movie did want him to be asking at least some of those questions about Vader.)

Turns out the evil Emperor's right hand is also a FATHER. He's the HERO'S father. But he also cuts off Luke's hand because the only option he'll apparently countenance is for Luke to join him in the darkness.

But he's a FATHER. He IS a person, not just a faceless villain. But does that make him better or worse?? If he's a person and he chooses to be part of the Empire, then all the questions Teal'c has about him have bad answers.

But also how is LUKE - the idealistic, hopeful shining figure of a Tau'ri hero - going to deal with his idolized father turning up on the Empire's side.

...Suffice to say, Teal'c is glad to see Han rescued and all at the start of Episode VI but he is REALLY REALLY waiting for expansion on the Vader plot.

Luke thinks there's still good in his father. Luke thinks he can SAVE him. Luke sees his father and he BELIEVES in him.

Listen. I believe in Teal'c's right to be a nerd, in general. I also believe that watching Vader say it's too late for him and Luke point-blank refuse to accept that is the MOST INVESTED Teal'c EVER is in experiencing any fictional story, ever.

And

LUKE IS RIGHT

VADER IS SAVED

Vader breaks free!! For his son!! Darth Vader hears his son's cries for help and is able to LISTEN and CHANGE and he is LOVED AND FORGIVEN AND ACCEPTED and he DIES FREE

The Emperor's enslaved right hand is REDEEMED and DIES FREE. That was the story all along

Anyway this is why Teal'c has watched Star Wars nine times. In conclusion.

It's about to be higher, but currently 236,415 (89k of that is co-written with @machawicket, though, so I can't claim it all!)

Arrow, Stargate SG-1, Bones, Timeless, Pitch, and a few others that are sort of incidental to the main ones.

4. what are your top five fics by kudos?

I was going to say Forfeit (SG-1), but honestly I think it's a toss up between that and time's right but the clock's wrong (Arrow).

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

This one's tough, because my angst to happy ratio can be pretty hight in my fics, but in terms of, like, purest fluff, probably How the Day Sounds (Arrow).

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I have, especially in the Arrow fandom because it's probably the biggest (and therefor has the most potential for toxicity), but it disappears fast.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

LOL yep! I do write explicit smut, but even that is pretty vanilla (which is not to say that's bad, and maybe one day I'll write kink, but I haven't yet).

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I imagine a lot of crossovers, but I rarely write them. The only one I've done (to my recollection) that didn't involve characters from different shows but still in roughly the same universe was The Male Prostitute in the Club With His (Word Redacted Due to Content) (Arrow), in which Oliver Queen met his doppelganger, Jason from Hung. It was ridiculous, and fittingly, my first fic in that fandom.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of. Honestly, for the most part my fic is too short for most people to bother with, I think.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? 

I wish!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Absolutely! There's obviously Our Version of Events with @machawicket, and I wrote a few SG-1 fic with @danveresque back in the day. I really enjoy co-writing, although I'm almost always the one slowing us down.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Sam/Jack from Stargate SG-1. It was my first love and the only one I come back to over and over.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I am reserving my 5th amendment right not to incriminate myself.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I like to think I'm pretty good at characterization and nailing a character's voice. I also enjoy writing dialogue, although I don't know that that makes me good at it. I'm also pretty good at hitting the emotions I want to hit in a scene and also writing emotional complexity.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Writing consistently and to completion is a big weakness -- a result of poor executive function skills and high perfectionism, ha. I'm also great at coming up with big sweeping plots and terrible at executing the details of them. And, until recently, I clung a little too much to thinking fic needs to be realistic and grounded -- now I understand that fic can be as ridiculous as I want, because what matters is how much fun I have writing it and whether it gives me the serotonin I'm seeking (as @mrv3000 put it).

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I'm incredibly impressed by folks who might be polyglots who can do this. I, sadly, cannot.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

I honestly don't remember! I have a notoriously bad memory of my childhood and I got into fandom very early. But the first fandom I published a fic in was Stargate SG-1.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

This is like asking who my favorite child is. I don't think I can answer with just one! Favorite funny fic is probably Cabin in the Woods (Arrow). Favorite fic where I just slid easily into the character's voices? Probably the devil's right there in the details (Timeless). Favorite (and only) remix? reclaim (the destiny rules remix) (Stargate SG-1). Favorite angsty fic (of which there are maaaany), probably god himself would call it justice (Arrow).

Whumptober 2024: No. 20 - Emotional Angst/Shoulder to Cry On

A/N: Welcome to another addition to Whumptober, Day 20. We are back into the world of Stargate SG-1. Enjoy your trip through the gate. Godspeed!

Summary: Daniel Jackson and Jack O'Neill share words, thoughts and a few tears as they reflect on what they loved and lost along the way.

Daniel sat in his lab chair, hunched over reference materials as he translated a text that SG-7 had brought back from off-world, when he had been reminded. It had been four weeks since he had lost Sha’re, four weeks of pain and heartache. Four weeks of reminders of the loss of her presence in this world, his purpose in finding her and bringing her home. The reminders, seemingly around every corner, had grown to be too much. He had taken to hiding out in his lab whenever he could, throwing himself into his work in the desperate attempt to dull the ache in his heart and silence the memory of her loss inside his head.

But, despite all of his attempts at running from the fact, grief had a funny way of creeping up on you when you least expected it.

“Daniel?”

The voice of Jack O’Neill standing in the doorway to Daniel’s open lab rang out, but Daniel didn’t turn around. He couldn’t hear him, too deep in his thoughts about all that he had lost. Coming to terms with it all would take time, he knew that. He had suffered too much loss in his life to not have learned that along the way. Still, that knowledge didn’t make loss any easier and he knew then that he couldn’t run from this forever.

“Daniel?” Jack asks again, lingering in the doorway for a moment longer before slowly approaching his teammate when he got no response.

“Danny Boy…” Finally, Jack’s voice broke through the fog that had seemingly taken up residence inside his head since the loss of his wife. He looked up immediately, with Jack cringing at the sudden movement, figuring Daniel’s muscles would be protesting the sudden change in posture.

“Jack?”

“Yeah, Daniel… I just wanted to swing by before heading home, see how you are doing?”

“I’ve got to finish translating this…” Daniel says, trailing off as he taps the tablet on the desk in front of him. “And then I have some research to catch up on. I think I’ve discovered something fascinating about the ruins on P3X…”

“Daniel.” Jack cuts the brown-haired man off, shaking his head once. “I didn’t ask what you were doing. I asked, ‘how are you doing?’”

“Fine. Why wouldn’t I be?” Daniel replied immediately, though he made it a point to avoid eye contact and Jack noticed.

“Daniel, it’s been four weeks, and you haven’t talked about it with… anyone.” Jack began, venturing slowly into the real reason for his visit. He wanted to check on Daniel, but he also needed to gauge how he was doing.

“There’s nothing to talk about.”

“Daniel, you lost your wife…”

“Do you think I don’t know that? That I don’t remember my wife dying right in front of me!” Daniel says, raising his voice slightly and rising from his chair to turn away from Jack. “Do you know what I would give to get her back? Everything. But I can’t. So, leave it alone.” Daniel adds, swallowing audibly as hot tears start to prick behind his eyes. He refused to break down, not here. He refused to break down period. That was the whole point of running.

“Jack, I’ve got to go.” Daniel says quickly, spinning on his heel and moving to walk past the other man only for Jack to catch him by placing a firm hand on his forearm to stop his forward progress.

Fiery eyes dart up to Jack’s own at the motion and Jack can see the wetness forming behind the fire.

“Daniel, please. You need to talk to someone.” Jack says, lowering his voice slightly. He didn’t want to say what he was thinking. He didn’t want Daniel to turn into what Jack had when he had lost his son, a shell of his former self. An angry man with a death wish… Daniel was too pure, too good for that. In Jack’s eyes, Jack had never been either of those things, but Daniel was and he was willing to do whatever it took to protect him. “Just… Talk to me.”

Slowly, Jack could see Daniel’s defenses start to fall. Whether that be from the exhaustion or from the logic of Jack’s words, he did not know.

Later and late into the night, long past the hour where a reasonable person would be asleep, the two remain in Daniel’s office. They talk, talk about the past, talk about loss and what comes next. They talk about everything that Daniel had kept bottled up since that fateful mission four weeks ago. There were tears, so many that Daniel didn’t realize he could cry as much as he did that night.

Some things don’t get better, some wounds will never truly heal. But, as Jack and Daniel sit together, they realize that maybe that was alright. They would heal the parts that they could and protect the parts that they couldn’t. They had each other and their other teammates and maybe that was enough.

22 Have you made any aus? I talked about vidding original characters for a fanfic AU in this vidder ask over here. I have made a Constructed Reality vid for Sylar/Mohinder from Heroes, too. I used some porn to make it look like Sylar and Mohinder were fucking in I Kissed a Boy. I don't have tumblr-friendly version of the vid on hand to upload but you can stream from the vidpost.

I've also vidded canonical AUs before. Stargate SG-1 was a sci-fi show with 20 episodes per season and over 200 episodes and SO MANY canon AUs. Bipagan bought a vid from me for a charity auction. She gave me the song and idea of a “Moebius!Sam Carter is envious of our main canon Sam Carter’s life.” I really really love this vid and Sam Carter. I haven’t had a chance to think about this vid in awhile. :) I have made many, many many friends from vidding fandom. People I met in person at Vividcon, people I only met on livejournal or dreamwidth. People who opened their homes to me when I needed a safe place to stay, and friends who sent me emails and cute animals photos and squeed with me about our various fannish favorites of the time. People that even when I haven’t chatted with them in ages don’t mind when I roll up in their DMs to talk about vidding or ask for help with a vid or what they’re watching these days. I’m very lucky, I've met a lot of wonderful people through vidding fandom over the years. 26 Any vidding rituals you have? Every time I complete a vid I end up making several copies of the file to put into my "Archived kuwdora vids" folder on my laptops and hard drives. It's just a nice way to finish things up, sorting it into my file systems. Then finally deleting the main project files off my laptop and getting that local storage back. (Project files are usually copied onto external hard drives Just In Case. I'm a hoarder which is why I have like 4 external drives.) Thank you for the ask!!

Stargate rewatch: 1x13 Hathor

An episode Jonathan Glassner is on the record as regretting - an attempt to up the sexy quotient to please the studio.

“Since I was the only one to ever do research in cross-pollenisation of ancient cultures, they tracked me down.” I have several problems with this - first Daniel works on a top secret military project and was likely declared dead, he can be tracked down by academics? Second, the incredulity of no one in the SG universe researching cross-cultural myths, and that such theories would be laughable. Third, the other archeologists have this paradigm-shifting artefact and just send it to some dude rather than study it themselves, and forth, that the Mexican government let them, even though the thing is solid gold?

I like the framing of this shot and the symmetry of the Gate and sarcophagus.

Jack: “It’s like that thing on Ra’s spaceship-” Daniel: “That brought Sha’re and I back from the dead.” I mean I like it when they mention movie events, but technically Jack never saw the sarcophagus. I guess things played out slightly differently in showverse.

Sam gets a shoulder pat and is not happy about it, because it's a patronising shoulder pat, not the shoulder pat of comfort.

She also does research on 90’s era internet in what looks like Janet’s office - this was before Sam and Daniel had their own labs.

"I just can't figure out how to be one of the guys with these guys you know? I always feel like I’m The Girl.” Ironic that this is said in an episode where it’s all about her being The Girl. Other than CotG and Emancipation, I’m not sure we see Sam treated as anything other than one of the team? The narrative treats Sam as The Girl, but the characters generally don’t.

I think the main struggle of this episode is that it veers so close to camp, but is played so sinister there’s a tonal dissonance that can’t quite be reconciled.

We want to have fun with Hathor, she’s glam and arch and should be fun! But there’s no fun in this storyline.

I mean this is an episode where Daniel is raped and Jack is assaulted, not exactly family friendly fare.

Daniel is dosed twice to fall under Hathor’s thrall, then when he finds out she wants to use him to spawn Goa’uld larvae he tries to stop her and is dosed again, and it’s so uncomfortable to watch.

And it’s meant to be uncomfortable, villain does villainous things is not something I have a problem with. And on some level the show does convey the gravity of this - the next time we see Daniel he’s in a dissociative state - but then it glosses over the trauma.

Because something like this is pertinent to Daniel’s character in particular, being powerless under the hold of a Goa’uld gives him a glimpse into what Sha’re is suffering and would only make him more determined to find her, but it’s never addressed.

Look I know Daniel sometimes gets grief for being “my wife” all the time, but he should mention her all the time? Especially when it’s relevant to what’s happening to him.

Maybe I’m just expecting too much from a tv show, but codas are often my favourite part of an episode, especially when there’s a need to deal with the aftermath of the episode’s events. Perhaps that’s more for fanfic than broadcast media, but I do feel that if a show is going to present something like this, there needs to be more than “ew” at the end.

Rumor has it Sharon Stone, who in the late 80’s was married to executive producer Michael Greenberg, was tapped to play Hathor at one point. Grain of salt.

5 women on the whole base? No female scientists at work that day I guess.

I mean, I know this episode was well intentioned in an attempt to give some focus and hero moments for Sam and Janet, but it really has Men Writing Women vibes.

With this setup Hathor really should have been more of a recurring villain because the concept behind Goa’uld queens is interesting, she is genuinely menacing, and the team have a personal beef with her.

Page Dr Mackenzie, they all need to boatloads of therapy. It’s Stargate: PTSD at this point.

It KILLS me that Sam never got a profound near-death bonding moment with ascended Daniel in Season 6.

Both Jack (Abyss) and Teal’c (The Changeling) got one and they’re a couple of my favorite S6 episodes. And after Sam was so openly devastated in early S6 about Daniel’s death/ascension… Can you imagine how Shanks and ATapps would have emotionally wrecked us?

We were robbed.

In fact, does anyone have any fic reccs for this concept? (Bonus points if it’s sam/jack friendly.)

I've been struck down by a f***ing cold the entire week.

So, after watching my favorite episodes of Stargate SG-1 and Sanctuary, I dove into David Tennant's work. Why not? I certainly have the time while being miserable on my couch.

Here's what I watched yesterday and what my verdict is:

Casanova - David is really cute, especially when he breaks the fourth wall; it's a little bit unhinged at times; I skipped over several parts with Peter O'Toole / 3.5 out of 5 stars

You, Me and Him - save your time and don't watch it, it's one of the worst movies I've ever had to endure; it tries to be funny but seldom accomplishes that; there's no chemistry between the two main characters (a lesbian couple); the plot is inconsistent and the story is all over the place; the only good thing is dumbass David in his hipster clothes becoming an overly protective soon-to-be father / 1 out of 5 stars

Des - great three-parter; although nothing much happens other than interrogations, police work, and the trial, it keeps the suspense alive until the end; David's performance is stellar as this talkative yet emotionless man; at the end I wasn't sure if he was a cold and calculating killer or just nuts; it gave me the creeps / 5 out of 5 stars

Otherwise, I have three-fourths of a little, smutty Sam/Jack fanfiction written. Let's hope, my muse and my drug addled brain behave and can finish it. Fingers crossed. 🤞

Legend of Zelda and Linked Universe, although I do have one Ao No Exorcist/Blue Exorcist manga fic that isn't finished yet and I plan to finish at some point. I have a Sonic the Hedgehog AU too but that isn't published and is only for me.

Most of them yes. I tend to save up comments and answer like 20 of them in a day to save time/energy.

That's gotta be Yukio Turn on the Light for sure (it's a story about a suicidal boy being talked back from the brink by his dead dad in order to prevent Satan from taking over the world), although Ghost Story will have a very angsty ending too (story about nine ghosts that need help making peace with their regrets so they can pass into the afterlife).

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Mmmm... that would be my FMA:B fic Actually I'm Not Sorry which is an epilogue to the manga/anime

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not really hate but I've gotten a couple critical comments here or there. On Recharge I've gotten quite a few "Where's the rest of this fic? Hurry up and write it B(&%^" or variations of that. That's why I abandoned it.

Never. I don't like the foods on my plate to touch so to speak.

The Sign of the Wolf is an unpublished hibernating WIP that is a long and meandering story about a depressed post LU Wild making peace with the loss of his 8 brothers after their adventure together ended. The main premise is that each of the other Links hid care packages around his Hyrule and Wild has to go on a scavenger hunt to find them.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue comes easily to me and characterizations as long as I can figure out what makes each character think.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Dialogue tags are annoying. So are boring scenes and transition scenes. And I'm terrible about knowing what things to shorten/cut out of the story.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Uhhh I have no thoughts? This hasn't really come up much except for sign language.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Well if you count my very first story ever I wrote at age 9 which was a Lord of the Rings superhero AU, then LotR. Otherwise, it was Sonic the Hedgehog.

Stargate SG-1/Sanctuary/The Aviary.

'Bird Cage' is a crossover using the characters from SG-1 and Sanctuary in a world taken from the book The Aviary. Earth is the pleasure planet of the Goa'uld and human women are the main commodity.

Sam ends up in a 'museum' of girls, run by John Druitt and Jack follows her to try and save her. Along the way, they pick of the help of various characters (including Nikola Tesla).

It's not done because of computer problems and will be a five-part series.

It's kind of wild and pretty dark.

No, but I would like to! Technically writing a Supernatural/Hannibal crossover over with tina-mairin-goldstein, but....I'm not really into it? And I was only recruited to right the Supernatural bits.

Ooooh... I really had to think about some of these.

B - A pairing–platonic, romantic or sexual–that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind.

I feel like often I haven't considered a pairing until I read a fic that does it really well or that gives me a premise I can get behind, but the only time someone, as in another person specifically talking to me, changed my mind was when a friend from one fandom suggested I might enjoy a fic from a different fandom we were both in… so I read an FMA Ed/Roy mpreg fic that I would not have otherwise given the time of day to… and I really enjoyed it ngl. 

C - A ship you have never liked and probably never will.

Sesshomaru/Kagome from the Inuyasha fandom. I do not understand why this pairing was so popular. If you want to hook Sesshomaru up with a human woman, Sango is standing right there ffs, she is such a better choice, lmao. I don't really get Reylo either, and there are plenty of other het ships that just make me scratch my head.

K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?

Wesley Wyndam-Price from Buffy/Angel. I love this man, and I love his development from someone who has no idea what the fuck is actually going on, to developing both physical and interpersonal competence, to finding a real family, to losing it through accidentally following some bad advice and betraying everyone, to finding love, to losing everything. His devotion to Fred makes a primordial, demonic, god-being care enough to help the protagonists fight an overwhelming army. I mean come on. This might be the one character I really did not mind at all that Whedon killed, because I felt like he had done everything and achieved everything he could possibly achieve and there was nowhere else for him to go. Perfection💔don't tell me anything about the comics i don't care

N - Name three things you wish you saw more of in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).

For the fandom of Stargate in general… 

More alien headcanons!! There are some really great people writing some fantastic fics for the Wraith, so I'm going to complain specifically about how I want more fics and HC for the Nakai and Ursini in SGU. Also the Reol from SG1 ("The Fifth Man”) have SUCH potential, I want to see more of them!! 

I would love to see more SGU people in SGA plots, if that makes sense. (I have a fic where Sheppard gets booted as military Commander, and I'm thinking of replacing him with Telford. 🤔)

more crossover ideas in general, within the Stargate brand. What if Vala and Cam came to visit Atlantis while Sam was there?  What if the whole gateing-through-the-sun-time-warp thing sent Rush to Pegasus instead and he ran into Todd? What if “Rising” was actually “Solitudes” and Sheppard and O'Neill are the ones trapped under a bunch of ice when their chopper puts down unexpectedly to dodge the drone?  (I just think it would be neat.🙂) 

P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas).

The last question had a 3 in it so my brain stuck on that track and I came up with 3 SGU AUs I'd like to see

The Lucian Alliance doesn't attack as they're dialing Destiny in ep 1 and even though they have to evacuate bc the planet's about to explode, everyone who doesn't want to go through the gate can beam up to Carter’s ship and evac to Earth. So it's a tense situation but there's enough time and focus that Telford and O'Neill get to send the “right people team" that they wanted to send. I wonder who that was? Presumably this team was already on Icarus base, it just contained fewer civilians. I'd like to see them not do any better, or mess up in different ways. 

Everything happens the same, but Camille is more assertive sooner and gets Young and Rush to stop being such dicks to each other, and everyone has a more mentally healthy experience.

When I first read the title of the s1 finale “Incursion,” I thought it was going to be about the Nakai returning. So, an AU where that happens, OR both the Nakai and the Lucian Alliance show up to invade Destiny on the same day and everything is chaos ❤️

S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon (prompts optional but encouraged)

Wow, I really don't know if I can answer this… I feel like everything I think about the characters is my headcanon to an extent? And what I canon in my head changes for every fic. I think I HC the Wraith as being a lot more into casual touch than they are shown in canon, that just jumps to mind. (But like, there's not much to them, socially, in canon, so it's really all hc, and I don't think I can list all the backstory/society I've made up for them across several fics.) Narrow the question down a bit and I can maybe do better.😂
