(1/2) Ugh! I will never get over the trainwreck that was season 8 and the absolute vomit inducing reactions I had during the last episode. NOTHING MADE ANY SENSE. Every other episode screamed politicalJon, Jonsa, a final showdown between Sansa and Dany. But then...… nothing. Jon became an idiot, Tyrion didn't even have any consequences for his horrible actions, and Dany's death was incredibly stupid. And Bran of all people becomes King of the 7K? Really?! At least badass Sansa became queen....
(2/2) …But even that was quite hollow for me because she wasn’t even surrounded by her loved ones or able to share the joy of her coronation with her family. It just makes no sense to have Jon be “in love” with the dragon queen when he never showed any feelings of love for her but with Sansa the romantic tension was all over the place, but then nothing becomes of it? What?! D&D truly don’t understand the series and they’ve pretty much sacrificed character development for Dany’s arc. Blech!
Aegor-bamfsteel, a smug asshole, 3 weeks ago: lol the endings of the book and show are gonna be the same cry about it dark!D@ny haters
Aegor-bamfsteel now, crawling to RandomHouse Publishing: please…the ending will be better in the books? It’ll make more sense, right? Things will be different?
“Only now, at the very end, do you understand.”
Dear cleverelaena,
I’m very interested in just what went behind the scenes for the actors, directors, and writers to make the decisions they did. Why did Jon suddenly become an audience surrogate/D@ny fandom stand-in and have Tyrion of all people dryly tell him why to kill her? Why did he have to be the one to kill her thus becoming an accursed kinslayer? Why was he not pardoned after GW left? Why did Sansa and Bran get each other’s endgames (some meta writers got there was foreshadowing for Bran to become King in the North like the second coming of Bran the Builder, but obviously he shouldn’t be set up for kingship below the Neck only since he’s never been there? And Sansa’s betrothed the Dragon’s heir, where is he? You know that comment about making the people love her when she’s queen is about King’s Landing, yeah? She could’ve easily been Qi7K in the 8x06 council…)? Why is Tyrion being Hand considered a punishment in universe when, uh, it’s the same job he’s had for 3 seasons? What is Bronn the sellsword doing on the Small Council? How come Sam is Grand Maester when he doesn’t have a chain? What happened to Sansa and Brienne’s sworn shield relationship? What happened to ‘the pack survives’ if they are just going to be scattered across the world with no promises of reuniting? I…I just don’t get it.
I’m with you on the disappointment, and I regret raising my expectations so that the trifecta of theories our community made would be met. We got…well 1/3? 1 and a half out of 3? Because I’m still clinging to sacrificial!Jon to the end, since the relationship by 8x04 was proven to be incredibly one-sided and abusive, causing Jon to retreat into a shell of himself (no, not even that; S1 Jon probably wouldn’t stand her) that could only repeat “She’s our queen. She’s suffered. Sansa doesn’t have a choice but to kneel. She’s our Queen”; which could be read as a defense mechanism against an extremely volatile “partner.” So, yes, I say 1.5/3. I’m always going to feel sadly about Jonsa not getting a confirmation of their feelings in-show (because not only the actor’s tension but also the mood lighting/directing there was so obvious that even non-shippers were going wtf is going on) since I’ve shipped them since 2012 and I felt it would be a great fantasy Reconstruction to go along with the Deconstruction of books 1-5, it had excellent mythology that tied in to Ned/Cat but the ability to go beyond the weaknesses of that couple, they complimented each other personality-wise and rulership-wise, it fits in with the “there and back again” that GRRM promised his book readers they’d get it’s such a great ship ilism…and I never gave up hope/still haven’t really that they won’t confirm something in some post-canon material that it would rise. Delulu and proud, I know. But this ‘buildup to nowhere’ certainly gives me a lot of questions I’d like answers to.
