Sundance film festival - a brief presentaion
History of Sundance Film Festival
Sundance began in Salt Lake City in August 1978 as the Utah/US Film Festival in an effort to attract more filmmakers to Utah. It was founded by Sterling Van Wagenen, head of Robert Redford's company Wildwood Enterprises, Inc, and John Earle of the Utah Film Commission. The 1978 festival featured films such as Deliverance, A Streetcar Named Desire, Midnight Cowboy, Mean Streets, and Sweet Smell of Success.
It is the largest independent film festival in the United States, with more than 46,660 attending in 2016. It takes place each January in Park City, Utah, and at the Sundance Resort (a ski resort near Provo, Utah), and acts as a showcase for new work from American and international independent filmmakers. The festival consists of competitive sections for American and international dramatic and documentary films, both feature films and short films, and a group of out-of-competition sections. Many films premiering at Sundance have gone on to be nominated and win Oscars such as Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor in a Leading Role.
Growth of the festival
Founded by Robert Redford in 1981, the Sundance Institute took over the festival in 1985 and changed its name to the United States Film Festival. It wasn’t renamed the Sundance Film Festival until 1991. “Sundance” was the name of Redford’s character in the 1969 film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
Over the years, the festival has evolved from a low-key venue for low-budget, independent producers from outside the Hollywood system, to a media spectacle for Hollywood celebrity actors, paparazzi, and luxury lounges put up by corporations unrelated to Sundance. In recent years, festival organisers have attempted to limit these activities, commencing in 2007 with their ongoing Focus On Film campaign. Smaller festivals such as; Slamdance, Nodance, Slumdance, It-dance, X-Dance, Lapdance, Tromadance and The Park City Film Music Festival, cropped up around Sundance in the Park City area, though all except Slamdance are no longer around.
What type of films do they show?
The Sundance Film Festival brings together the most original storytellers and the most adventurous audiences. Since 1985, hundreds of films premiered at the Festival have received critical acclaim and reached global audiences hungry for new ideas and voices. The festival’s annual program includes dramatic and documentary features, short films, and episodic content. They also host daily filmmaker conversations, panel discussions, and other events. There had been astronomical growth experienced by the festival during the 1990s and 2000s that created a need to expand the number of films screened and introduce more effective ways of grouping them together for easy digestion by the audience. Over the years, the festival has experimented with a range of different sidebars and today, no less than 12 separate sections make up the Sundance Film Festival program.
Key historical films
Sex, Lies, and Videotape launched the modern independent film movement here in 1989 … Directed by Steven Soderbergh the film made at a budget of just $1.2 million, Sex, Lies, and Videotape captured the Audience Award for Dramatic Film at the 1989 Sundance Film Festival, as well as the Palm d’Or at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival. The film eventually grossed $24.7 million. The film, which starred Andie MacDowell, James Spader, Laura San Giacomo and Peter Gallagher, launched the career of Soderbergh, who as a struggling filmmaker had served as a volunteer driver for festivalgoers at Sundance the year before. Today, Sex, Lies, and Videotape is considered one of the most influential movies in independent film history. In 2006, the film was added to the United States Library of Congress’ National Film Registry as being deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
Reservoir Dogs caused quite a stir at Sundance in 1992 … Quentin Tarantino’s debut effort, Reservoir Dogs, premiered at the 1992 Sundance Film Festival and became the event’s most talked about film. The offbeat crime thriller starred Harvey Keitel, Michael Madsen, Steve Buscemi, Chris Penn, Tim Roth, Lawrence Tierney and Tarantino himself as “Mr. Brown.” Empire magazine has named Reservoir Dogs the “Greatest Independent Film of All Time.”

How To Rent Chair Covers Towards Your Wedding
As a relationship Planner, in my opinion, the Conservatory of Flowers will be the most Kalispell wedding venue of them all. This venue is operating out of Golden Gate Park may possibly seat very much 200 inside and 300 people out. This place would be the flowery setting two people could enjoy a fantastic summer marriage ceremony. Prefer a winter wedding? Your building itself has sustained its charm for your past 130 years and holds a compounding of tropical and aquatic plants, The flora and fauna add an exotic surrounding to your own wedding reception. You can go even further by adding a tropical theme to all your weddings on its own is.
Luray, VA- Nestled in the hills from the Blue Ridge Mountains, Luray, Virginia excellent small-town spot with big unexpected situations. There is the famous skyline drive with beautiful overlooks and pull-offs displaying the grandeur from the valley. Nevertheless, the surprise comes with the limestone caverns deep in the mountains, where brides get their wedding in a healthy cathedral.
Typically, with large, costly weddings, being married planner pays 10 to fifteen percent for the overall associated with the special event. This usually includes the full services presented. If you are organizing a smaller wedding, you might do far better choose an apartment fee arrangement and use the venue which is available from the coordinator. With other arrangements, the marriage ceremony planner may go for unengaged to you but get a kickback within the various vendors they recommend. The cost of a marriage planner too much depends upon your particular needs a person should know there can be a way to manage the cost so the moment has come within spending budget.
However, many reception halls and facilities are available and remain a popular option, these facilities often book a higher one event per night. Rather, look for someplace that provides a private day. That means your wedding is the only thing happening at making a fleet of that time. This creates a more reserved and limited find. No one else can an event just like yours on a single day.
One of the duties of getting a bridesmaid is that it will help the bride deal with something throughout her wedding day, pertaining to instance keeping guests entertained to starting the dance party t. Additionally, it includes enhancing the bride to touch up her makeup during the day.
It's always necessary regarding just the silhouette of clothing but as well as the fabric. You will come belief about whether the designs are embroidered or beaded. You can easily jot down all your thoughts or your likes on how your wedding dress should be like. Sometimes, wedding places or wedding venues impact your decision with the details of design and style.
Conclusion: It's a "fun day out" for you and your girlfriends yet bridal shows aren't beneficial when bottom-line wedding planning is related.
Do you or your fiance have children you need to feel special on your day? If so, consider using a child-friendly location for an event that is actually unique and memorable for years. Discovery Gateway in Salt Lake City gives you the venue to host this form of marriage soiree. Carly Rae Jepsen Announces New Album
Carly Rae Jepsen’s new album, The Loneliest Time, is due out on October 21st. Pre-orders are up. Today, GRAMMY®-, Juno- and Polaris Prize-nominated singer/songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen announces the forthcoming release of her massively anticipated new album, The Loneliest Time. Due out on October 21 via 604/Schoolboy/Interscope Records, The Loneliest Time is now available for pre-order HERE. Her most introspective body of work to date, The Loneliest Time expands on the emotionally potent songwriting and effervescent sound that Jepsen has showcased on past work like 2015’s critically lauded and culture-shaping E*MO*TION. In bringing her new album to life, Jepsen worked with collaborators Tavish Crowe, Rostam Batmanglij (who helmed production on The Loneliest Time’s acclaimed lead single “Western Wind”), Bullion, Captain Cuts, John Hill, Kyle Shearer, and Alex Hope among others. A major creative milestone for Jepsen, E*MO*TION inspired in-depth analysis from cultural critics and landed on multiple year-end “best of” lists from the likes of Pitchfork, Stereogum, Noisey, NPR, and many more. Released in 2019, her follow-up album Dedicated covered even more musical ground. Working with a crew of trusted songwriters and producers (among them John Hill, Jack Antonoff, Captain Cuts, Patrik Berger, and Tavish Crowe), Jepsen indulged in more sonic experimentation than she had in the past. The Atlantic called the album “brilliant” with its “godlike bops.” She returned the following May with a gift for her fans: Dedicated Side B, a buoyant set of dance-floor tunes that affirmed her status as pop’s undefeatable ambassador of love. Jepsen will give fans a taste of the new album when she hits the road next month on her The So Nice Tour. The 23-date headline tour kicks off on September 24 in Montreal and includes stops at marquee venues like Radio City Music Hall in New York City and The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. Her first North American headline tour since 2019, The So Nice Tour will include support from Empress Of. "WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?" #3
#Follow4FollowMyGuy asks: As an artist in uncertain times, how can I keep promoting my music from quarantine?
M$: The first thing you need to do is find some compromising evidence on a friend that runs a website. Then you blackmail them into letting you write a pointless Advice Column that no one actually cares about. That’s the most important place to start.
Once you’ve got that secured, and the money from the blog is flowing endlessly into your account, then you just hustle. Hustling is a lost art these days. There are so many online outlets, and so many different social media platforms that it can get overwhelming pretty quickly. The key is to not let that happen. Focus on one or two at a time. Get weird on Twitter and sneak in some links. Ask for questions on your Instagram story, then find a way to relate your answers to songs you can post. Dive into the hellscape that is Reddit and find a thread that your music fits with, and drop a link. Not all of this is going to work, but it’s worth a shot.
The other important thing to remember is that you don’t have to promote a specific song, or an album, or a video. Just interact with people. Everyone else is online all the time, so just be visible, be friendly, and be accessible. As long as you’re doing something online, no one is going to forget about you.
Maybe don’t use the band page to drop heart eyes on thirst trap photos. Slide into those DM’s from your own account, you know? The last thing you want is the fucking bass player seeing their reply first and stealing your thunder. But then again, all is fair in love and hardrock.
Dan Price asks: Can I have your milk money?
M$:
@FiendingForMosh asks: When are shows coming back?
M$: The real answer is that no one knows. Probably sooner than you think, which is also probably too soon. It’s kind of a lose/lose situation.
Live music is in a weird spot. To go from “Everyone needs to practice social distancing until we can get a handle on this extremely contagious thing” to “Well, it’s not contained, and we don’t have a vaccine, but fuck it. Go ahead and pack as many people as you can into a tiny, poorly ventilated space and let them all slam into each other” in the span of a couple of weeks seems insane.
There are some medical experts that say live shows shouldn’t start again until 2021. That’s not going to happen. That can’t happen. Every place that relies on a steady stream of smaller touring acts and local shows—which is almost all of them—will close if that’s the case. No one wants that. Venues need to make money and bands need to make money. The only way to do that is with shows.
What’s going to be really interesting is seeing who takes the risk. Some bands are going to hit the road two days after “shelter in place” ends. There will be venues ready to host the shows, and people dying to see them—no matter who that band is. The very idea of getting back out in public and seeing their friends is going to be enough for a lot of people. Those bands are probably going to do pretty well, and play for a lot of grateful people every night.
Then there are going to be other bands that take the whole rest of the year off. To them, the juice won’t be worth the squeeze. They’ll stay home, write new songs, make a new record, and continue to wait it out. The bands that take this route are probably the bands that are a little more established, and have other sources of income. Some bands can afford not to tour. Others can’t.
There are also going to be a lot of people who just don’t trust anyone in a large crowd for a while.
“I’d love to see that band. But there’s no way in hell I’m going to stand in the dark while a drunk, sweaty guy—still wearing a heavy denim jacket in fucking July for some reason—brushes his damp hair across my face as he tries to squeeze through an already tiny space.”
It’s weird, it’s scary, and it’s pretty unprecedented. But it is going to be okay. Live music will always be something that people enjoy, and there will always be someone who figures out how to make the most of it. Things aren’t going back to normal anytime soon, but maybe that’s a good thing. It gives everyone a chance to decide what the new normal is.
There is one upside that could come from this, and one that Milk Money wholeheartedly supports: Maybe venues/bars/clubs will actually keep their bathrooms clean, stocked, and operational.
Ahhh, who are we kidding? No one is going to learn anything from the last five weeks.
XtestpressX asks: Who are M$’s favorite current #SLCHC bands?
M$:

M$ presents #SLCHC2020LOVE The Mixtape
@StatuteOfLimitations asks: What is your wildest tour story? Dan$: As all of Milk Money will attest, my memory is not the hottest. But I’ve been blessed with a metric shit-ton of sketchy/amazing tour experiences, so here’s a montage of pretty true events... - Coming up with the idea for Milk Money with Trevor on west coast Cherem runs.
- Roger Miret teaching me his prison workout regimen in an old church in Switzerland.
- Watching Madball and Obituary festival sets in Turino, Italy from the fancy comfort of an above-ground pool.
- Breaking up fights between American soldiers and German hardcore kids.
- Breaking up fights between American soldiers and Japanese hardcore kids.
- Getting into fights with American soldiers in foreign lands.
- The time Lord Ezec asked me if I wanted to smoke some crack with him.
- The time the moon crashed into Idaho.
- Hiding outside the backstage tent of symphonic metal cover band Apocalyptica in a giant mud puddle during a Czech Republic downpour with Vinnie Stigma, waiting for them to take the stage, so we could sneak in and steal coffee from their espresso machine.
- Taking Matt Mascarenas to the beach for the first time in his life.
- Fuck Nick Cannon. - Watching an aggro road-rager freak and back down a steep-ass, 500-foot grassy slope into a cow pasture after he pulled us over to fight. - The Lightkeeper’s Trail (What's good, Countdown to Life/Broadway Calls?!?!?!) - Watching Sparky from Demented Are Go bite the head straight off a dead rat, pound a bottle of vodka, and say, “That’ll clean it up.” - Chasing a not-be-identified drummer from brothel to brothel in Graz, Austria to watch him dance with girls for a few seconds before running to the next brothel… just to make sure he didn’t get left behind by the bus.
- Not joining Hatebreed in a backstage jacuzzi full of actual erotic dancers. - 30 Seconds to Mars telling us we were “pretty heavy” when we shared a venue in Minneapolis. - Moshing in a Drum’n’Bass tent at a Euro festival with a not-to-be-identified NYHC band who were skying way high on ecstasy. = Learning so many important lessons the hard way while making all of my closest friends cuz… hardcore. Trevor$: I don’t have nearly as many globe-trotting adventures as Dan, but some of my favorite moments with my friends happened on tour. - Spending two full days at a Fazoli’s (the only kind-of vegan option in the city) in Grand Island, Nebraska on our first tour because the transmission went out 13 hours after we bought the van. - Directions to a venue that were “Turn left at the women’s prison, and drive to the end of the road. It’s in the junkyard.” Once inside the junkyard, getting the instructions “Stay away from the fences. That’s where the ladies have ‘yard time’ and the guards in the tower get really angry when we talk to them.” - Air guitar and autographs with a drunk guy named “Deth” in Tijuana. - Almost having to fight a promoter in New Mexico because he accused us of stealing a microphone, only to find out ten minutes after leaving that Bill accidentally put it in the pocket of his cargo shorts and forgot. - Swimming too far out in the Florida ocean and getting stopped by the beach patrol just before the shelf drops off and all the bull sharks hang out. - Going on tour without confirming anything, then having to beg every promoter to let us play when we showed up. - Trying to pretend there wasn’t a fight happening in the crowd until Jake pushed his drums out of the way to jump in at every single out-of-state show Tamerlane ever played. So what we're saying here is, once this plague blows off, GET IN THE FUCKIN VAN CUZ LIFE IS SHORT AND YOU SHOULD LIVE IT!
Until next time, this is Milk Money saying, “Tamerlane is not the Five Finger Death Punch of Salt Lake Hardcore."

Game Grumps Live: Salt Lake City (Review)
My siblings and I got the extraordinary opportunity to see Game Grumps Live! In Salt Lake City on July 15, 2017, at Rockwell @The Complex. We had general admission seating. Here are my thoughts and recommendations!
(Note: This post contains pics but they are bad pics. My apologies. My phone’s focus could not keep up with the frenzy.)
Show Rundown:
They started off with Vernon coming on-stage and greeting the crowd....
...and picking an audience member who is “So good at Super Mario Bros. they could play it with their eyes closed” to...play it with their eyes closed.
(Vernon placing a Sonic hat over the lucky participant’s eyes so he can’t see.)
He then asked the crowd to shout instructions (Mainly “JUMP!”) at the participant at the right times. This made for 10 minutes of amusing intro to hype us up. BUT THEN...VERNON LED US IN THE “HEY I’M GRUMP” INTRO...AND THEN THERE WAS A DEAFENING ROAR…
(The blur here is a perfect representation of the chaos that ensued) ...Arin and Dan EXPLODED ONTO THE STAGE AND THERE WAS NO MERCY FROM THE CROWD.
(Seriously though it’s hard to get good pics when you’re short and the crowd has no chill.) The Game Grumps were on the scene and gave us a hearty hello!
(*Hushed screaming* THERRRE THEY ARRRRRREEEE) The bulk part of the show was an interactive Mario Party 10 game. Arin picked Peach (of course) and Dan picked Yoshi. They then split the crowd into two and had the crowd pick players 3 and 4. 3 picked Waluigi, and 4 (my team) picked Toad.
They had hype chants all prepared for us (“WA-LU-I-GI” *THREE CLAPS* and “GO TOAD”) and told us to hype and cheer as much as possible. They played the game and at each mini game they brought up audience members to play for their respective teams, each time asking their names and asking them for silly hype phrases (Like “What’s your favorite pasta?”) or insults to the other team. There was also dabbing and occasional shenanigans from Dan and Arin. (One of my favorite moments was Dan doing some ridiculous dance/posing at the crowd. Arin asked “What the f*** are you doing, Dan?” and Dan responded with “I”m appealing to the crowd! For Star Points!” XD <3 )
At the conclusion of the game, TEAM TOAD WON!! GO TOAD!!!!! *Deafening roar*
Afterwards they opened it up for questions for about 20 min. (The game went kind of long.) Then they had to bid us goodbye!! Sad!! :(
Thoughts:
I was SUPER hyped to see these guys. Like, really really hyped. It’s still surreal to me that I saw them in person, but at the same time, it’s like “OMG I know these guys.” Mostly, I’m just really glad I got to see them.
The show was fun, but halfway through I realized something: I wasn’t laughing.
Sure, I was cheering and screaming along with everyone else, but I didn’t feel like I was witnessing a live episode of Game Grumps like I had expected. It felt more like a sporting event than a comedy show. It was only really fun if you were one of the people picked to go on stage with the Grumps. Once I realized this I was really disappointed that this was all I had come to see, and hoped in vain that they would play another game afterward. This is more disappointing when you consider how these guys really are very talented performers and improv artists. I paid to go see them and I didn’t get much of that at all. Mostly people just trying to soak in their 3 minutes of fame. (Which admittedly I’d have done too.) I’ve heard that they’ve played Mario Maker at other shows and I really wish they’d have done that instead. I would recommend that if you are ho-hum about going to see them live that you definitely keep this in consideration. (Also, bring earplugs to protect your hearing.)
The Q&A was actually a bit more enjoyable in some aspects, even though I didn’t get a chance to ask a question. I was surprised that the questions asked were pretty quality. (They said at the start, No “Can I get a selfie/hug?” questions, and only one person asked a “Monkey” question, like “Can you say/do X.”) I’ll go over notable questions in a later section. I don’t regret going to see them, but I’m still disappointed I didn’t get exactly what I thought I paid for. (And drove 6 hours and paid for a hotel for.) If you’re a huge fan though, I probably don’t have to tell you that it’s worth it anyway. :)
The Venue:
I will be issuing a complaint with The Complex. We stood in line in 100+ degree weather for over an hour (on top of the hours we’d already spent wandering the outdoor mall) with the comfort that we would soon be in an air conditioned building...except it wasn’t. I had confirmed with The Complex ahead of time that seats would definitely be put out, but I had not at all expected or thought to ask about the air conditioning. It shouldn’t be unreasonable to expect an event venue to be able to cool their crowd, right? I’m not sure if it’s the unexpectedly hot temperatures, the fact that the smoke patio door was open the whole time, or a crowd larger than expected, but it it was sweltering in there and I found myself using my hand fan the entire time, and it wasn’t much help. I do not find this acceptable and I would not consider going to an event there again for this reason. (At least not in the summer, jeez.)
BONUS: Notable Questions and Answers!
Will we ever have an episode of “Dad Grumps”? After a roaring audience chant of “A-VI, A-VI”, Dan said Avi (his dad) has been warming up a little more to the idea of being on the show in some capacity. He doesn’t want to be on camera but he *may* consider doing a podcast interview similar to the interview Dan did with his grandma.
Are the Grumps ever going to finish “A Link Between Worlds?”
They are apparently waiting on a custom controller being built for Dan’s enormous thumbs. They are hoping this will happen, though.
Will there ever be a three-way Game Grumps episode featuring Jontron?
There was a loud roar at this question, mostly “YEEEAH!” BUT there were definitely some audible “Boos.” They have considered it in the past but after...recent events…(Google it if you don’t know)...it’s leaning toward a strong “No.” I got the impression that this wasn’t an outright “No,” but my guess is it’s going to be hard to see how Jon’s reputation erodes or blows over in the next few years.
Has Arin taught Dan how to draw yet? This is a reference to “Super Mario Galaxy: Part 69″ where Dan mentioned how he couldn’t draw and Arin mentioned how he could possibly teach him. They said this has not happened as of yet. The crowd then proceeded to chant “DOODLE DUDES,” and Arin, surprised, said that having Dan on an episode of Doodle Doods could possibly happen, and if it does, we have Salt Lake to thank for it. :)
That’s it for now! Please let me know if you find my review useful, helpful, entertaining, or if you were also there, accurate. :) Thanks!
