95% of women in prostitution want to leave, but can't because they don't have things such as financial means, healthcare, housing, treatment for addiction, or job training.
this is not a 'choice', and it is not 'empowering'.
there is no consent when a woman is fearing for her life.

*hits feminist blunt*: I hear a liberal feminist take, i turn that shit off.
No I do not want to hear about how empowering it is for a majorly childhood traumatized group of girls to be prostituted women. People love "sex work" takes until you tell them to watch this video about sex trafficking in the Dominican Republic and these parents are pimping out their little girls and boys to these white colonizer rapists. How very empowering that they expressed a desire to find other work to not do it anymore.
Using the language of "sex work" gives rapists impunity to hide behind.
Look at these little girls and boys as their piece of shit parents exploit them and their bodies. No child deserves that.

There’s a huge mistake we make when debating prostitution. It should always be talked about as a class issue. Prostitution is humiliation, exploitation and abuse for women as a class of people. It doesn’t matter if some girl claims she enjoys selling her nudes on OnlyFans, for example - what matters is how it affects females as a whole. I’m sick of anecdotal arguments being used for an issue that destroys so many lives.

RADFEMS AND RADFEM CURIOUS GIRLBLOGGERS I PRESENT TO YOU MY ULTIMATE ANTI- PORN READING LIST
- I provided summaries, repost with your thoughts…add your own recommendations!! 🩷🩷
“Pornography and power in Michel Foucalt’s thought” by Bohdana Kurylo (2017)
Looks at foucauldian perspectives and foucault's concept of biopower and that of his critique of the repressive hypothesis
Also focuses on the power dynamics of pornography and its discourse and representation as Foucault's ideas regarding the production of knowledge and regulation of bodies is applied to this form of thinking
"The Sexual Liberals and the Attack on Feminism" edited by Dorchen Leidholdt and Janice G. Raymond (1990)
Critique of postmodern sexual liberalism which is in defence of prostitution and pornography, collection of essays (some are not of relevance), mainly regarding the cultural exploitation of women by proxy of pornography
“Sexualisation of young people review” by Linda Papadopoulos (2010)
Looks at the direct effects of pornography on cultural conditioning from a empirical psychology viewpoint
“Pornography consumption and cognitive affective distress” by Michal Privara (2023)
Discusses internet pornography, emphasising the significant long term effects of porn on both individuals and societal perceptions of gender roles and sexuality
“Feminist critique of the feminist critique of pornography, a essay” by Nadine Strossen (1993)
Point of critique - opposing view perchance>
Strossen discusses how the anti-porn stance is counterproductive and desires a more nuanced view which recognises womens various responses to such frameworks, ew.
“Pornography and rape: a casual model” by Diana Russel (1988)
Relationship between porn consumption and rape, contribution of cultural conditioning of men ergo that of women by proxy, discusses the normalisation of sex based violence, objectification and dehumanization, reinforcement of patriarchal gender norms through identities being subsumed and subservient in conventional pornographic representations
Also discusses the rape myth acceptance (RMA) which is the acceptance of false beliefs, stereotypes, and statements regarding rape (so antiquated and ew)- interesting to look at the illinois rape myth acceptance scale, and also the REAL scale which is the Rape Excusing Attitudes and Language Scale
“Internet pornography: a social psychological perspective on internet sexuality” by William Fisher and Azy Barak (2001)
Examines the accessibility and anonymity of online porn and how this contributes to widespread use and its impact on individuals alongside within the broader context of society
Psychological effects and also the potential desensitisation and normalisation of certain sexual behaviours and attitudes
“Sexuality, pornography, and method: ‘pleasure under patriarchy’” by Catherine MacKinnon (1989)
Intersection of sexuality and pornography, discusses porns potentiality to shape societal attitudes towards sex and power, influencing both the sexes in their perceptions of sexuality and a way in which upholds oppressive societal frameworks…
“A dyadic approach to pornography use and relationship satisfaction among heterosexual couples: role of pornography acceptance and anxious attachment” by Megan Mass, Sara Vasilenko, and Brian Willoughby (2018)
BIT RANDOM _ NOT DIRECTLY RELATED
Looks at how higher pornography acceptance is associated with greater relationship satisfaction, while higher anxious attachment was linked to lower satisfaction, looking at both individual and partner use of pornography
“Against proper objects” by Judith Butler (1993)
Draws from her seminal work. Gender trouble, and gender performativity, also looks at political implications
Grounded in philosophy as well, looking at phenomenology and poststructuralism
“Pornography as a biopolitical phenomenon” by Aura-Elena Schussler (2016)
Discusses how pornography functions as a foucauldian biopolitical phenomenon, how such power and knowledge intersects to control bodies, porn existing in this framework to produce sexual subjectivities
Looks at discussions on discipline, surveillance, and normalisation of sexual behaviours
Would also like to recommend the movie “not a love story: a film about pornography” - really cute if not yet watched, by Bonnie Klein in 1981

One thing that really bothers me as a lesbian is the casual way "sex work" is suggested to lots of homosexual youth as a potential income stream. When I was hungry and broke what I clearly needed was to put a camera by my genitalia instead of a MEAL and job search help.
People really want to suggest prostitution to disenfranchised youth as a solution and idk sisters, that thought makes me feel really [redacted].
I've been sexualized since I hit puberty. I've had a gross man proposition me for sex on my 18th birthday and he was quite adamant that he would pay me $800 of my local currency. Clearly I missed my calling in such a lucrative, not at all exploitative, safe, sexism free industry 🤩

in his and davrin's banters, lucanis exhibits a certain little shit energy I don't think we see him have with anyone else other than illario and honestly I am living for this
#dragon age#dragon age: the veilguard#dragon age: the veilguard spoilers#dragon age spoilers#lucanis dellamorte#davrin#also that's really interesting. with illario it's clearly not ever meant to wound but it serves a similar function of 'hey fuck off'#they have that friendly insult game going that veils some real resentments and conflicts that perhaps. should have been dealt with#considering that you could hardly find two people less alike in fundamental character than davrin and illario... fascinating#I suppose both of them push past lines of comfort and don't really let up at subtler signals to back off#(illario to needle and davrin mostly because he's that straightforward I think haha)#but the sheer viciousness with which lucanis responds makes me think there could mayhaps be some resentment with that dynamic#that he won't let out with illario himself b/c he has so few interpersonal relationships and wouldn't risk disrupting one#even when illario is getting up to some Shit even outside of the whole betrayal thing#and davrin is sooo uninterested in doing anything but call 'em as he sees 'em and it's glorious haha#it also means that I think lucanis is more honest in those banters than he is with anyone else I've seen#including the fact that he's mad and that the ossuary really did suck that bad actually#with bellara he's like 'don't worry about me I'm fine *thousand yard stare*' and with davrin he goes 'yeah I'm haunted forever by it.#does that satisfy your curiosity' lmao. and then they're just trading barely veiled death threats for a while#davrin is confrontational but he's also a safe person to be angry with b/c I think at the end of the day he is also fair#many thoughts. all the time. all veilguard up in my neurons 24/7

"What happened in Germany since full legalisation? Today the police say that only 10% of the women have no pimp. About 90% of the women are migrants from very poor countries, mostly Romania and Bulgaria.
What we see is that prostitution is a very racist system. It is usually the racially discriminated women who enter prostitution – like Roma women from Romania. And prostitution itself is racist too because it fetishizes ethnicity. We have brothels that have a kind of apartheid system when it comes to the women. You go to the first floor for the Romanian women. You go to the second floor for Asian women. You go to the third floor for African women.
We see that prostitution in Germany makes sex buyers more racist. They use very racist and sexist slurs against women and they try to offer refugee women from Syria money for sex.
To allow prostitution makes a country more racist because the sex buyers who, for example, buy Asian women won’t see other non-prostituted Asian women as human. This is what we see. It’s as if we are still a colonialist country.
Legalisation normalises prostitution. For example, we had a TV show that was called ‘Pimp My Brothel’ where a brothel keeper who’s now in jail for human trafficking went into brothels to tell them what they could do better.
Legalisation brings more capitalism into prostitution because the women are the product and are only there to serve the client. So, legalisation strengthens the client’s rights. We even had a court case. There was a girl, I think she was 19, and her punter had not orgasmed and went to court over that. She had to pay him money because he wasn’t able to orgasm with her.
This is what legalisation does."

how do we know that ja’marr was a vikings fan growing up? this is new lore to me and i am intensely curious 👀
ackkdjas ok this. this genuinely makes me insane. ja'marr being a vikings fan is actually such a CRUCIAL part of jjmarr and i'll never shut up about it.
apparently ja'marr used to have a curiouscat (of which -sorry i laugh whenever i remember). curiouscat fully shut down last year, so i can't take a screenshot myself but luckily @lethimsoak took screenshots (also screenshotted some very Joe coded answers)
and there's this absolutely hilarious article. Everyone should read it imo (apparantly Ja'Marr's always been contradictory for the sake of being contradictory), but the most important part was when Ja'Marr said STEF was his favorite receiver
For instance, take one of the most crushing losses in New Orleans Saints history. Chase’s mother, like most New Orleanians, looked on in horror as the Minnesota Vikings’ Stefon Diggs scored on a last-second 61-yard touchdown pass to knock the Saints out of the divisional playoffs this January. Ja’Marr cheered. Diggs just so happens to be his all-time favorite receiver. “My mom and everyone was mad at me because I was screaming out that he scored,” Chase said with a grin.
you can see him fanboying on twitter in 2016 and 2017:

the only issue with kink culture is not within kink play itself but the fact that it is normalised to have safe words because a ‘no’ or ‘i dont like that’ wouldn’t suffice. Thats when it enters the terrain of rape bait.

Viji Palithodi is the founder of a woman's trade union improving the working conditions of women. It focuses on the rights of saleswomen, who beforehand did not have the right to access a washroom even when they were doing 12-hour-shifts: "In shops, workers, especially the women, aren’t allowed to sit even when there aren’t any customers. After our protests, an amended law ensured seats."
Tumblr media
Male-centric trade unions did not respond to these human rights violations, so Viji took it upon herself to form a women-centered union.
"After relentless protests and strikes, the government amended the Kerala Shops and Commercial Establishments Act (1960) in 2018, mandating toilet facilities for women workers. Local administration built public toilets in Kozhikode."
Tumblr media
source source
I literally can't believe that trade unions centered around men did not take these torturous conditions seriously, but love that she stood up against it ❤️ and actually changed something
