NSB (Straud Legacy) Gen 8 Ep. 162: Baby Envy

Peachy and Jack spent a good amount of time visiting other happy new parents in their close family circle, starting with Tori and Miguel.

As they watched Luigi and Olive babble on together in the play tent Tori mentioned that her little girl was going to be a big sister soon. Peachy was surprised, as she too had a May/December romance and Miguel was even older than Jack, likely to have even less time to watch his kids grow.

Miguel admitted it turned out he was quite enjoying fatherhood. Being isolated as they were on the farm, they both had agreed they’d like Olive to have a sibling to keep her company. Miguel had already taken one potion of youth and would take as many as he needed to see his babies age up well.

The sad contrast to his own very limited time with Jack weighed on Peachy on their way home, but he avoided starting another fight over it.

He didn’t have long to dwell on it, as Paul invited the boys to the ranch for a visit before they even got settled. It was a lot of travel, but enriching Luigi’s life with cousin time was worth it. Peachy was always happy to have the chance to cook for his family again anyway.

During the meal Paul and Nikita excitedly announced that they too were expecting not just one but two new bundles of joy. It seemed non-twin Paul had been the one to be blessed with twins of his own!

After the meal Jack convinced his boy to join him by the barn. He introduced Luigi to all the furry residents, including their old friend Taz the cat who had left his mother Luna to travel to the ranch when Paul and Nikita had moved out, and was now a graceful elder cat himself.

Peachy completed the whole set of first cousin visits by meeting Toni in the Magic Realm for a quick duel a few days later.

Her little Hunter was doing well, and she had found the perfect venue for their next get together with him and Luigi. A new “rugged adventures” campground had opened at the base of the volcano in Sulani, and she thought it would be the perfect lure for Papa Jack.

Peachy agreed that it sounded fantastic and would be an easy sell as the place to celebrate Luigi and Hunter’s next birthdays.

Before they left Toni asked him what he thought about her and Manny trying for a sibling for Hunter. After all he hadn’t steered her wrong the last time.

Peachy did his best not to show how much all this talk of new babies bothered him just then. It wasn’t Toni’s fault that Jack wouldn’t have time to raise another baby with him while everyone else was gleefully expanding their family. He tried to put on a happy face as he urged her to decide for herself this time around. He really couldn’t advise her on having a second child when he had no plans to have one of his own.

That night after putting his little man to bed Peachy settled in the rocker to think, doing his best to keep it from becoming a sulk.

When he’d chosen to get pregnant and before he’d offered the magical mermaid kelp to Jack, his thoughts on more children had been centered as much or more on his spouse than on himself. Now he realized that he had a desire to have another child, regardless of how Jack felt. However, he didn’t think he could share those thoughts without re-igniting their argument about Jack’s lifespan and wasn’t sure if he’d want to raise a second child on his own.

Peachy promised himself that he wouldn’t cause another fight on their upcoming Sulani camping adventure with Toni. He still held out hope though, that the islands and their inhabitants would help Jack realize how perfect him becoming a merman would be for the whole family.

WBJ2019-Diaries of Straud: Prompt 11

Year 2 Day 56:Tv no guilk-ling?(You don’t speak galactic common?)

(What’s language like in your world?)

I can’t believe we’re gonna fight about this now, then again if they wanted to fight for it now’s the time to do it rather than then when all of the official stuff is laid in.

So yeah there’s been a debate about what the official language of the colony should be, some want to make it the usual mix, Galactic common, and then the ones from our home colony, so English and Swedish and finally Spanish.

Others are saying we should do it by the three largest, Common, English and Spanish, and you’ve got a final group saying we should ditch common and just go with English.

And everyone is shouting over everyone else about who’s right. And before you say why not just make up a new language and use that, well one humanity did that a while ago, It’s Galactic Common(aka Common) and two there is a group calling for that too but they are in the minority because few people wanna take the time to learn a new language right now.

Personally I fall into the first camp mostly because it sounds the simplest and we don’t need to debate or find out who knows what just in case secretly over half of the colonists know Klingon or Elvish or something. But I’m staying out of this debate as much as I can, to the point where no one is allowed to sit with me in the cockpit on flights anymore. I wear my headphones in public, and hide behind the first potted plant I see at a party.

Okay so Galactic Standard, came about when people started to argue about what language should be accepted as the standard for international co-operation on deep space and colony projects. Everyone had a preferred language, usually their own. People argued over if it should be the most commonly known language, or maybe the easiest to learn or something else. English, Spanish, Esperanto, Klingon(nerds).

Of course this spread from the people actually making the decision to well everyone else by the time they’d figured out the decision they were gonna make. They got flooded by arguments, letters and everything from people. Bribes, threats, insults, compliments, twenty paged arguments. Which made them angry and in a rare moment of true human nature showing through an elected bureaucratic body. Decided that a new language would be made up independent from all languages before it and it would be the Common language.

And so the linguists set about creating what would be called Galactic Standard. Designed to be easy to learn, phonetically consistent to avoid any these are the rules and these are the exceptions to the rules you’re just gonna have to memories on their own. To sound like it’s own language and not imitate existing ones too close and to not beg, borrow, or steal anything from existing languages. It’s perfectly serviceable, and also perfectly boring. But we keep it because by Gott we all had to learn it so our kids are just gonna have to suffer through it to.

Lets talk about something more interesting, I should be getting a personal computer again, well a tablet but still it beats having my hand cramp every twenty minutes. that’ll be nice, I can do video logs again too. Should make it quicker for me too. As for anyone wondering but didn’t you use one back on the ship, sort of yes sort of no. It was more like the old style terminals, the central processor was else where and your interface was just sending and receive the data to and from it. Hence the book sense we stopped living in the colony ship... well unless there’s a nasty storm.

Anyway we’re at the point where they have spares from the stock being made for essential personnel needs, technically as a pilot I don’t need one cus of the shuttles interfaces and what not. But it does let me do some nice things like interface remotely and remote controlling. So thanks to that I got higher placement on the secondary list and didn’t have to write in on the lottery. So I should have a new one soon. It’ll help alot with the percision landing   of  hea vy c A rgO-

i edited two scenes for straud already and im basically done decorating max’s bedroom for the third scene so after im done editing that post i think i’ll get back to posting straud again yes...... yes i will

NSB (Straud Legacy) Gen 8 Ep. 56: A Trip to the Falls

On Saturday morning Jack’s excitement about landing his new job turned to apprehension about his performance the following week.

His career had bombed out twice before, he didn’t think he could bear to be three times a loser. Fortunately, his boyfriend was nearby to remind him that Bianca had only helped get him the interview. S.I.M.S vetted their recruits very carefully and being hired meant they were sure he was worth it.

Peachy thought he was worth it too. He had even set up a little treat for his outdoorsy best bro: a camping trip this weekend before he got busy with work next week. The promise of the great outdoors cemented Jack’s improved mood and he began packing immediately.

Jack suggested they invite Paul and Nikita along on their little adventure. He didn’t feel it was his place to say anything, but he knew the look of someone struggling and he’d seen Paul doing his own fair share of it when he thought no one was watching. He hoped the trip might raise the boys’ spirits.

The group quickly setup their campsite before heading to the falls. Peachy and Jack worked on catching their dinner while Paul and Nikita explored the woods. In the middle of identifying interesting new plant species Nikita even caught a little piece of nature to take back home with them.

They all reconvened and took a moment to enjoy the beautiful scenery before heading back to grill up their catch. Jack hadn’t felt so at peace in a long time, and he knew Peachy was the reason for it. Overcome with emotion he grabbed his boy and swept him up in a kiss to thank him for everything.

Paul and Nikita both smiled to see their fellow couple so happy. Paul especially had watched from the sidelines for a long time as Peachy first feared, then faltered, in love and was overjoyed that this relationship was working out for him.

Grillmaster Peachy enjoyed preparing their fresh catch while the rest of the group relaxed with a game of horseshoes near the campfire.

Over their meal Peachy caught Jack up on all the latest office gossip, now that their precinct was no longer a sore topic. Jack had been a cop for a long time, but he still never failed to be amazed and amused by the crazy things sims got up to and needed help getting out of!

One small downside of his new career, Jack reflected, would be less crazy stories of the antics of the public, at least less unclassified ones.

Everyone was looking forward to relaxing with some marshmallows and scary stories before they retired to bed with their loved ones. The night ended up giving them each very different ways to express that love.

Nikita helped poor unlucky Paul care for a burn he received while tending to the fire, carefully peeling his shirt away and applying a soothing ointment she’d remembered to bring for just some such misadventure.

Peachy pulled out his guitar, entertaining them all with a classic love song, although he mostly had eyes for his own handsome Jack in the firelight.

Sunday morning Peachy and Jack got up before the others. Settling by the charred embers of the previous evenings blaze they chatted about Peachy’s latest case and Jack’s first day at S.I.M.S. which was coming up as soon as they got back from the trip.

Jack thanked Peachy again for helping him through his latest rough patch and apologized for being so distant when he’d first moved in. Peachy told him not to worry about it but reminded him that he didn’t have to go through tough times by himself anymore.

Looking at the sweet, innocent smile on Peachy’s face, Jack felt compelled to confess the love that he’d felt since that day at his old place. When Peachy returned his feelings with a tender kiss Jack felt like all the pieces of his life were finally falling into place. He could hardly believe his luck.
