I propose Formalin.

It has a very unique repulsive smell that irritates your throat and eyes.

so Sauron = irritatingly stinky

Now the interesting thing I noticed with Formalin was, you can get somewhat used to the smell as you keep working with it but it never fully stops being repulsive or irritating. Like how the brain stops perception of certain bad smells in a room after you've been there for a while right? That's called Olfactory Fatigue. I (& most of my friends from med school) never experienced that with Formalin.

so Sauron = stays a little stinky Forever & Always

Formalin also has a way of creating strong Olfactory Memory. So the first time or place you ever smell Formalin, most probably you will be returning to that memory or emotion whenever you smell it again for the rest of your life.

so Sauron = memorably stinky

Also another thing I (& some of my friends) noticed with Formalin was that it stays with you for a while after your first exposure.

So after I first smelled it in my anatomy class we had lunch right after (in a whole another building) and while eating, every strong smell would morph into the smell of formalin, even the pleasant ones. And this kept on happening for months! Anything and any smell above a certain threshold started smelling like formalin for a few seconds, and will bring the memory of anatomy class back.

so Sauron = overpoweringly stinky

Hence I rest my case, Sauron smells like fucked up magical formalin 🫶🏽
