The Batfam Case

Sooo, I started watching batfam posts on tiktok, decided for funsis to try to understand the lore. It's been two days, I'm too invested I'm about to infodump you what I know and I may pass from tiktok to tumblr.

DISCLAMER:

I don't know shit about DC. I watched a single movie and that is lego batman. No series, no comics, nada and I will not be watching until I crack this shit, so yeah, my facts may be super wrong.

I will start with characters analysis in this structure: name - vigilante persona(s) - age - personality/ general backstory - love interest(s). This will be followed by the events that I know of in chronological order (years will not be included, I'm not that much of a mad woman, instead they will be put in different Robin eras).

Ed3: I've decided that at the end of each day I will edit the original post with the mark: Ed(day number), I will not erase anything but I will scratch. I will also be adding parentage as a category in the characters (that goes from biological to emotional and their life status)

Ed4: don't know where else to put this but DC apparently stands for Detective Comics and Batman is considered the best detective of his time.

Ed6: I'm going to put a separator here because this post is getting toooo long. Also I feel like I should add, the villains have an habit of calling the Robins "little bird".

CHARACTERS:

Bruce Wayne

Vigilante persona: Batman

Age: DILF

General background: apparently has two personalities, I thought he was just Broody all the time, but apparently, he is also a nonalcoholic version of Tony Stark (at least I'm pretty sure he's not an alcoholic), genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist and all of that jazz (Ed4: has been a victim of the so called "toxic comic bros" who just want him to beat people up, because he's batman and he has a deep voice and he doesn't show emotion, when in reality he's really family orientated and would literally do anything for his kids and he learned how to show it verbally/physically throughout the ears of robins, thanks for coming to my ted talk)

Love interests: Damian's mom? Idk apparently he has game (another thing I was not expecting of batman) (Ed3: superman, those two have definitely fucked, I saw a scene of an animated series that had batman on top of superman and it was raining and superman had the most bedroom eyes I have ever seen)

Parentage: Biologically, don't know their names, they were rich, they are dead (and maybe involved in an organised crime? Still have to fact check this one). Emotionally, Alfred

Richard Grayson

Vigilante personas: OG Robin/nightwing

Age: grown ass man

General background: sunshine incarnation, smiling while threatening someone to kill their entire family kinda person, hot as fuck, flexible as shit (advantages of having gymnasts parents), oh yeah, grew up in a circus, dead parents (oopsie daisy, the trauma needed to start somewhere I guess), also his nickname is Dick? Who chooses that nickname? (Ed4: very overlooked trauma, mainly because of the sunshine energy, oldest sibling syndrome, probably had some kind of burnout at the age of 15/16)

Love interest(s): someone named starfire (?) (Ed3: I now know who starfire is and apparently their those annoying couples that are always breaking up and coming back together), also there's this red head that is connected to flash because his suit is an ugly version of flash's, I think (Ed3) his name is Wally?, idk if he's a friend or something else (or he could be starfire, who knows) (Ed3: his name is indeed Wally and he was a childhood friend and maybe a bit more but it doesn't matter because he's dead and their last conversation was a fight. ✨️Trauma and Drama✨️) (Ed4: There's also Barbara apparently (the only thing in my mind is the audio "name a more inconic duo that a twink and a red head") and a girl named Zatanna)

Parentage: Biologically, they were acrobatics and acrobated to their deaths (this word is going to be common in this section). Emotionally, Bruce and Alfred. Legally, maybe Bruce, I mean the kid was a child when he became Robin, who was his legal guardian? (Ed4: apparently Dick was just Bruce's ward :(, he never adopted him)

Jason Todd

Vigilante personas: ex-Robin/Redhood (Ed3: maybe phoenix, still trying to decide if that's true or not)

Age: another grown ass man

General background: happy, naive and cute when young /instead of unplugging and plugging his life back in he decides to do a whole factory reset/ basically batman's personality but without the morals part, also hot as fuck (jesus christ, how can a drawing be so hot), from what I understand, he's the fandom's sad little meow meow (Ed6: he wears a mask under his helmet. I feel like that's important information and he's the only one who can cook (besides Alfred))

Love interest: Roy (Green lantern's kid, who is apparently named Oliver (Ed6: apparently there is another green lantern named Hal???? That is not important to the batfam but i feel like I should mention it) and is also a billionaire. The more you know) and they have a child! I don't their name or gender but batman's a grandpa! (Ed4: Her name is Lain :D)(Ed3: Honorary mention to the girl who he said he had to go to a funeral to escape a date)

Parentage: Biologically, no fucking idea (Ed4: I think Jason had a semi-decent relationship with his father. Also I'm pretty sure that Talia is his mom and she sold him to Joker, which draaammmaa (Ed6: pretty sure that title actually goes to Shelia)). Emotionally, Bruce, Alfred and apparently he has like 5 mother figures including Damian's mom (Ed6: one of them is named Selina (she's nice 👍) and there's a Shelia who I'm not sure is biologically his mom and a Catherine (she's also nice) and a Nocturna (not sure if this is just the vigilante name of one I've mentioned before)). Legally, again who was his legal guardian if not Bruce? (Ed4: I'm pretty convinced that he was adopted by him) (Ed6: his step mom died of overdose, which damn)

Barbara (Ed3: Gordon)

Vigilante personas: bat girl/Oracle????????? (Ed3: my questions have been answered, she is the Oracle)

Age: pretty sure she's around the same age as Jason (Ed4: considering recent developments, I'm going to believe she's around Dick's age)

General background: I barely know shit about her, I know she's a hacker and I think she has some kind of motor disability (this is a big shot in the dark) (Ed3: but a fucking correct one, I was right bitches) (Ed4: she seems like the one holding the brain cell 90% of the time and I know she's ti-red of this train wreck of a family. Gonna say it here because I have no idea when it happens but I have this theory that she was batgirl until she suffered an accident(in or out of the job) that affected her legs, amking the vigilante shit hard, so she decides to go behind the scenes and becomes Oracle)

Love interest: no idea, but if she's free I don't mind stepping in (Ed4: this people love incest bc her and Dick were a thing) (Ed6: apparently my baby has no other love interest besides Dick 😔✊️)

Parentage: Biologically, no idea. Emotionally: Bruce, Alfred and that's all I know (there are very few people talking about my girl, seriously people step up)

Tim Drake

Vigilante personas: ex-Robin/Red Robin

Age: late teen/young adult

General background: literal physcopath, too smart for his trembling morals, literal gremlin, a little shit, Tired all the fucking time, already a child of rich people before becoming another one of Bruce's children, I'm pretty sure his parents were alive when he became Robin (they didn't stay alive for long, but it's progress) (Ed4: I think at some point he may have been Joker Jr??? Wtf???(Ed6: I'm super confused because one video said it wasn't cannon and the next one used it as if it was))

Love interest: I don't know if my boy has time for them (Ed3: a superboy I forgot his name, I'll have to go through my reblogs for info (update I was thinking of the wrong Wayne-Kent relationship, I have no idea this guy's name), also apparently he had a thing with Stephanie? Incest, much) (Ed4: apparently he's in a poly ship because, besides the Kent kid (whose name is Kon btw) he also has a thing with some kid named Bernard)

Parentage: Biologically, they're rich and were killed by Boomerang. Emotionally, Bruce, Alfred. Legally, I will ask the same question once again WHO THE FUCK IS THIS KID'S LEGAL GUARDIAN?? (Ed4: I'm almost certain that Bruce adopts him)

Vigilante personas: ex-Robin(hilarious)/Spoiler (what kind of name is this)

Age: probably not much younger than Tim

General background: no fucking idea, (Ed4) I just need to point out how fucking hilarious it is that the other Robins were all young boys with black hair and then a blonde girl just shows up one day with the costum and everyone rolls with it (Ed4: she's another gremlin together with Tim and I know if those two are left alone for five minutes they will start world domination. Also she starts drama for the hell of it.)

Love interest: she gives me bi vibes, idk what else to tell you (Ed3: I'll repeat the incest with Tim) (Ed4: Cass :D, I love that for them (Steph, is your kink incest?))

Parentage: I don't know and I'm getting ultraged by the lack of content the girls have, seriously people

General background: he has a sword? I need to start with this, a trained assassin (I'll repeat he is a tween (I think)), the child of the family, has everyone wrapped around his little finger, Bruce's bio child (Ed3: the one who is most likely to kill someone, a wild fact considering he's the youngest one, also he has fangs???? For some reason? And people call him hell spawn so there is some history here, also he has a bunch of animals and I just love that) (Ed4: was a prince before he came here, that's all I have to add)

Love interest: he's a child (Ed3: another superkid, the Waynes have a type, his name is Jon)

Parentage: Biologically, Bruce and this Talia woman (and they are both alive, shocker I know). Emotionally, Alfred.

General background: another one I barely know shit about, she's deaf, she gives me sassy little girl vibes (Ed3: she is some kind of Michael from the Naturals (where are my 3 the natural fans at?)) (Ed4: she's a sneaky little bitch who need no weapon, just her two fists, super quiet, but super deadly)

Love interest: no fucking idea man (Ed4: Steph :D, idk why but I love this idea so much I don't even care if it's not canon, it's canon to me)

Parentage: he had a sister (or daughter) and her name is Julia but they don't have the best relationship

(Ed6: another one to the pool. His name is Terry and he is barely mentioned in the fandom. Also Slade, he's a villain and has beef with every single Robin. And a guy named Lex that every single one of the batfam hates, he has the opposite company of WI and he may or may not be a supervillain. Someone help me there are three batgirls. And I saw a post where Jason called Cass his "big sister". I'm gonna cry)

EVENTS IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER

Pre-Robin

Dick living happily with his parents in a circus at the age of 8

Parents die in front of him (and Burce, I think)

Picks up a costum and start beating criminals twice his size

Dick Robin era

Batman's like "someone needs to put that kid under control. No one volunteers? Okay, I'll do it. No, there's no need to insist I'll do it." That or they keep having encounters until Batman gets attached. (Ed3)

Mentor/mentee shenanigans

Boom Dick's too old, no idea if he just leaves the title, gives it up to Jason or Bruce just says he likes them young (Ed3: the most hilarious option won)

(Ed6:Jason is homeless because his step mom died of and overdose)

Also no idea how Jason got himself in the middle of this mess. (Ed3: why the hell am I still clueless about this?) (Ed4: apparently he tried to steal the tires of a batmobile and that's how they met? Amazing I love it) Anyways,

Idk, but guess who's back, back again (Ed4: apparently there's something called "Lazarus Pit", that's what he uses, whatever the fuck that is, wasn't Lazarus the friend of Jesus that he literally ressure- oh wait I'm seeing a pattern here. Reimagined as a Santa Monica teenager name Kori who starts developing super powers after her sister’s boyfriend’s uncle’s pharmaceutical company recruits her for an EDS study, Starfire has an “inexplicable draw to the stars” and hangs out with a kid named Victor Stone. Which probably gives you an idea of the next graphic novel in the series you can look for.

November 2024 TBR--

I'm excited for my November reads which mostly consists of new releases/ARCs. I'm doing a very slow reread of one of my favorite books of all time which means Locke and Jean are spending November with me. I'm also finally reading another Hunger Games book for the first time. Let's get into the reads.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins-- This is going to be my first time reading the Hunger Games prequel. This one follows Coriolanus Snow as he mentors the female tribute from district 12 in the 10th Annual Hunger Games. I've heard some positive and negative things for this one so I am pretty nervous. I'm also usually not a huge fan of prequels coming out years after the original has finished.

Funny Story by Emily Henry-- Yes, I am now on the Emily Henry bandwagon. A couple months ago I read Happy Place and I am ready to get hurt again. I chose Funny Story as my next read since it follows a man and woman who are trying to save face in front of their exes by pretending online that they're together following humiliating breakups. I always love fake dating so don't even get me started. I'm so excited.

The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch-- This is the reread that I'm taking so completely slowly. I originally read this one in a week despite it being so dense because I was absolutely living for it. This time I'm only reading one or (at most) two chapters per day so I can really take the time to absorb it. The Lies of Locke Lamora follows an orphan who is raised to become a gentleman thief who charms people right out of their purses. There are aspects of found family and heists that just make my heart so happy. This is one of my favorite books of all time.

The Whispering Night by Susan Dennard (NetGalley ARC)-- I was shocked to find that I got approved for this ARC a couple of weeks ago. This one is going straight to the top of my reading priorities for the month since it comes out soon. This is the final book in the Luminaries series. We follow Winnie Wednesday who is looking forward to the Nightmare Masquerade which is a week long celebration of all things Luminary. But Winnie is confronted by a masked Diana and charged with an impossible task that threatens everything and everyone Winnie loves.

Against the Boards by Cynthia Gunderson (Kindle)-- My hockey romance for the month. I'm enjoying allowing myself to read a hockey romance every month and keeping this pattern going. There's hockey, there's romance, what's not to love? When Emma's controlling brother Sean tries to tell her who she can and can't date, Emma convinces his teammate Tyler to mess with Sean by pretending they're in a relationship for just one night. I assume that things spin out of control from there and the fake dating continues for longer than just one night. Also, I just now realized I'm reading two books this month with fake dating. You know what? I am not complaining.

Teen Titans: Starfire by Kami Garcia and Gabriel Picolo (New Release)-- After a bit of delay, we're getting the next graphic novel in the Teen Titans series. I don't know anything about Starfire, but we follow Kori Anders who has Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and is asked to participate in a clinical trial with her sister that is designed to advance treatments for EDS. But during treatment, Kori begins to discover some strange powers that she's never had before. I enjoy these graphic novels so much and I'm excited to meet a new character and see how she ties into the overarching plot.

Games Untold by Jennifer Lynn Barnes (New Release)-- Am I a sucker for all things Inheritance Games? Abso-fucking-lutely. This is a collection of short stories and novellas in the world of The Inheritance Games. The synopsis on GoodReads includes: this collection "proves that when you love the way Hawthornes love, there is no going back." The story I'm most excited for, of course, is $3CR3T $@NT@. But anything new from this world is going to get read by me. It just is. I love the Hawthornes (and Avery and Libby).

1. Loki (MCU)

Look, this is the undisputed number one spot. Loki has been my ride or die for the past 14 years (!!!), my first tattoo is dedicated to him, and he’s the character that got me through the loneliest and scariest periods of my life. Loki will always be my number one, tbh.

2. Dream of the Endless (The Sandman)

Now, Dream is the character that simply bust down the doors to my heart and took residence, no questions asked. Through Dream and The Sandman fandom I was able to connect to parts of my identity I wasn’t aware of, and to make so many great friends! Dream means a lot to me (so much so that my *second* tattoo is of the dreamstone— in a grand total of two lol)

3. Edward Elric (Full Metal Alchemist)

Ed is the blueprint of the pissed off short king tbh. I always related to how he dealt with guilt and how driven he is, and his character arc was one of the most captivating I’ve ever had the pleasure to experience. As a 14 year old, I would for real go out in public wearing his red cloak.

4. Chrono (Chrono Crusade)

If I have unreasonable expectations of Love, Chrono is the one to blame. Throughout the entire show (and the manga, which I do feel has the better ending) his dedication and kindness to the people he loves and cares about was just incredibly captivating to a 12 year old Virgo. Real character building stuff.

5. Sora (Kingdom Hearts)

Sora had the sickest shoes and my taste for unreasonably large and perhaps sorta ugly sneakers comes from him for sure. I just love that spiky little guy.

6. Raven (Teen Titans)

Raven was honestly the first character that made me go “she’s just like me fr!” There was always something super fascinating about her, and how complex she is. It was nice seeing female characters like her and Starfire in cartoons.

7. Howl Pendragon (Howl’s Moving Castle)

I identify with Howl in many ways, but mostly in how dramatic and absolutely pathetic he is. Also I do feel like a monster sometimes and a way to visualise that is to imagine I’m covered in green slime.

She was a child, in a shitty situation, learning to find strength within herself to keep going, to trust her instincts, to keep surviving. She means so much to me!

10. Nick Nelson (Heartstopper)

Nick is just oddkdkdkdkdkddkfo he’s allowed me to have good feelings about bisexuality!!! About my teenage bi experience!!! The whole of Heartstopper, really, but Nick’s kindness and his whole journey of self discovery helped heal something in me. Good retriever boyfriends for the win!

Bonus: 11. Bucky Barnes (MCU)

I didn’t want to repeat a fandom, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Bucky. Another character that I just immediately clicked with, and watching him be developed in so many different movies (and even a tv show!) was very special.

Multiversus Wishlist

You know the drill here people. I'm making a list of the characters that I want to see join the roster of Multiversus. This will be influenced by various leaks, hints and datamines for the game.

Here we go.

-Green Lantern (has been hinted at in the trailers and could be interesting gameplay wise)

-The Flash (my favorite DC superhero and would give us a speedster in the game)

-Aquaman (he's been hinted at and voice lines were datamined)

-Martian Manhunter (I just want him in because I want to see the Big Seven of the Justice League in the game)

-Hawkgirl (I'm fascinated by the Hawk mythos in DC and she would diversify the roster a bit)

-Lex Luthor (we need more villains in the game and his rivalry with Superman is legendary)

-The core Teen Titans (Robin, Raven, Cyborg, Starfire and Beast Boy. All of them would bring something unique to the table of a platform fighter. Plus Raven has been hinted at through voice lines.)

-Deathstroke (If any of the Titans get in then we definitely need their premier enemy in there.)

-Green Arrow (He's a big deal for DC and his archer based moveset could be fun)

-Beetlejuice (Voice lines were datamined and plus he's the Ghost with the Most.)

-Harry Potter (I know there's been controversy with the creator of the series but the Wizarding World is still a huge IP for Warner Bros. so I expect they'll include someone as a playable character and who better than the main character.)

-Gandalf (Was datamined and Lord of the Rings is still a big property for Warner Bros. Plus he's a wizard and that's always cool)

-The Powerpuff Girls (Voice lines were datamined for all three)

-Ed, Edd, and Eddy (Despite being one of the original Cartoon Cartoons they haven't really gotten representation in a platform fighter before so this would be a chance to fix that)

-Samurai Jack (Voice lines were datamined and besides it's freaking Samurai Jack. Why wouldn't they include him?)

-Johnny Bravo (I just want him in because he was one of the original Cartoon Cartoons)

-Numbuh One (I want to see some representation from Codename Kids Next Door and he's the most likely to get in)

-Daffy Duck (Was datamined and could be funny to see)

-The Road Runner (Mostly want them because of nostalgia for the Road Runner SNES game)

-One of the following Dexter's Lab characters

-Dexter (Main character with numerous inventions, duh.)

-Monkey (Was a superhero in the show and could be fun)

-Major Glory (Same deal as Monkey above)

-Val Halen (His magic guitar would give him a unique moveset)

-Space Ghost (His powers are incredibly varied and we need some representation for the Hanna-Barbera superheroes)

-Secret Squirrel (I want one of the Hanna-Barbera "funny animal" characters to make it into game and Secret has numerous gadgets that would make for a good moveset)

-One of the following Mortal Kombat characters (to give Warner Bros. video games some love)

-Scorpion (Most popular MK character and has fire powers)

-Sub-Zero (Second most popular MK character and has ice powers)

-Reptile (A fan favorite and wouldn't be expected plus his reptilian powers would be fun in the game)

-Raiden (Typically the "Big Good" of MK and a good pick for a hero character)

-Liu Kang (He is supposed to be the hero of the series, which MK1 has made more clear than ever so he might have a chance)

-The Animaniacs (Yakko, Wakko and Dot could be a three-in-one fighter much like how the PPG are predicted to be and it would be just fun to have them in the game)

-Ruby Rose (I love the RWBY series and it is owned by Warner Bros so the main character making it in is a distinct possibility)

-A Bionicle character (I loved the Bionicle series, it would give Multiversus a Lego rep and I would ideally prefer Takanuva with his light powers or Mata Nui with the Kanohi Ignika giving him life powers)

Kintsugi

Set between season two and three of Young Justice. Kaldur goes to talk with Blue Beetle after he messes up a covert mission. 

Kaldur walked out of the late meeting to find Jaime sitting awake on the couch. It was one-forty three in the morning. He opened his mouth to say something but Jaime noticed him, and quickly pressed a finger to his lips. Warning Kaldur to stay silent. As he walked around, Kaldur could see why. 

Lying down with his head Jaime’s lap, Garfield lay asleep. His green tail twitched as he dreamed, a dazed frown crossing his expression. Kaldur sat down on the couch next Jaime so they could talk about what went wrong on the mission without waking the boy. 

Jaime began. Before Kaldur could even open his mouth, the words started slipping out one after another, like a waterfall. 

“He had a nightmare. We all do- me, Bart and Garfield. About The Reach. Being taken. What they . . . what they did to us. We’re all affected but it hit Gar hardest, I think. Maybe because Bart and I have families to run to, but for Gar, the Cave was home. He was supposed to be safe there.”

Jaime’s tone held an accusatory note. 

And Aqualad, realised suddenly, that the Blue Beetle’s performance issues had nothing to do with cockiness or vanity. It was the fact that when push came to shove, Jaime couldn’t really trust that Kaldur had his safety or wellbeing in mind when he ordered them to do something risky. The kind of trust you had to have in a leader. In a club like this. 

“If there’s anything i can do” Kaldur offered. Jaime shrugged. 

“I think that sometimes when you break something you can work to repair it. Glue it piece by piece. But sometimes you break something and . . . it’s broken.”

Garfield muttered something incomprehensible in his sleep.

The Teen Titans and their taste in Music:

@heaven-ecologist gave me the idea and I couldn’t stop thinking about it, so here you go. 

Beast Boy: Used to have a rave and dubstep hyperfixation but Raven blew up his speaker for playing it too loud. Now he listens to popular white boy music, like Bastille, Ed Sheeran and Billie Eilish. His favourite band is Gorillaz and wants to cameo in a music video as Murdoc’s second cousin. 

Starfire: She’s a Taylor Swift girlie. Cries every time she announces an album release. Listens to Lizzo and Doja Cat when she’s working out.  Listens to Mitski when she’s sad. 

Raven: Has a ferocious need to have the most alternative music taste in the room. Absolutely My Chemical Romance. A little bit of The Crane Wives. Listens to classical music while she’s meditating. Regularly says stuff like “Tiktok is ruining the music industry” and “No-one makes good music anymore.” 

Terra: She and Raven bond over Penelope Scott. If Cyborg hands her the aux, she will only play Mother Mother. Has about twelve “Villain playlists” saved on Spotify and also loves Will Wood. 

Robin (Dick Grayson): When he’s with people, it’s white boy pop. It’s Harry Styles, it’s Justin Timberlake, it’s Elton Joh. When he’s alone, it’s Adele or Regina Spektor and he pretends to be in a sad music video. Will unironically lean his head against a bus window for the drama even though the vibration turns his brains to gravel. 

Cyborg: He listens to rap. I can’t give you specific examples because I don’t listen to rap.

It’s 3k words, following the Titans team in the 2017 Judas Contract movie which has perhaps been my favourite Teen Titan line-up thus far. 

Summary. 

The Teen Titans are left in a bad situation when they're captured by an unknown enemy. Even as they equip themselves to escape, an old secret of Beast Boy is spilled- one that can never be unseen again. But despite his true form, will be accepted by his team?

I really enjoyed writing this fic and I hope to get to another one-shot soon. Or even a longer one, if i can manage to buckle down and finish it.

My #1 post of 2022

A fun angst thought I have, is that the body Garfield Logan generally inhabits is not his own. It’s him shapeshifting into the “human” animal, a conservative guess of what he’d look like if he’d remained a normal person and grown up. He’ll never know exactly, what he’d look like at fifteen and thriving, and even that question is tainted by the thick shade of green that washes over everything. But it seems to mollify the crowds that flock to watch the Titans fight, and that’s enough.

His true form is covered in a thick layer of fur, a long green tail and pupil-less eyes, long sharp claws and long sharp teeth. Its a form that reveals how far removed from his personhood he is, how much he truly changed. It’s a form that only a power inhibitor would reveal, or a deep coma. Beast Boy often wonders what he’s more ashamed of; the form, or the fact that he hides it.

RobStar Week 2022, Day 3 - July 4th

(So this one and “Tropical” are the two that I felt really hit those good summer vibes.  I dunno I just kinda felt like that was the theme I wanted to go for this year for RobStar Week.

Melvin and Timmy ran past them, giggling, bright sparklers fizzing in their hands.  Teether toddled after, eyes wide and happily clapping his pudgy hands as he followed his siblings.

Starfire grinned, watching the dancing sparklers twist and bob in the stark black night.

She stretched her arms out above her head, taking in a deep inhale of the fresh sea breeze, still warm from the hot summer afternoon, but beginning to cool.  Tiny droplets of ocean spray fizzled on her bare skin.

The beach was crowded, nearly the full Titans network had been invited, and even though many of them weren't American they had turned up for the party anyway.  Raucous, jubilant noise filled the air and echoed down the strand of sand.  Starfire tilted up on her bare tiptoes, searching the heads for her boyfriend.  She hadn't seen Robin in a while; last she'd glimpsed him he was busy at the grill with Cyborg, making sure everyone had a full plate.

Which meant he may not yet have seen her in her flag bikini ensemble, she realized with a mischievous giggle.

She angled herself in that direction, enjoying the feel of the sand on her feet as she wove in and out of the crowd.  She passed multiple clusters of Titans—Wonder Girl, Pantha, Kole, and Jinx had set up a net and were in a pitched volleyball match, Lightning was at the fireworks station practically bouncing on his feet in impatience as he waited his turn, with a moderately concerned Thunder hovering behind him, and Beast Boy was regaling a very politely confused Argent on American history, with groaning corrections from Hot Spot—and made her way to the still-burning grill.

Sure enough, Robin was still there, looking comfortable in his short-sleeve gray t-shirt and green cargo shorts.  He had one eye on the grill, grabbing the handle and peeking in every few minutes, and one eye on his T-communicator, checking for crime alerts.

Starfire shook her head, smiling long-sufferingly, and stepped up next to him.  She clasped her hands behind her back and just waited.

Robin glanced briefly her direction, and then double-took, his expression lighting up.

"Oh wow," he commented, looking her over in appreciation.  "You went full summer beach girl, huh?"

Starfire beamed at the praise, joyful tingles bubbling up in her stomach.  "This year I wished to 'dress for the occasion', as you say," she said, extending her arms a bit out from her body to show off her floppy straw hat, flag-pattern bikini top, and frayed jean minishorts.

"It's a good look," Robin told her, grinning.

"Has there been much trouble?" Starfire asked, tilting her head towards the T-communicator.

Robin picked it up, glancing at the screen for a moment.  "Couple reports of vandalism, firework noise complaints, drunk and disorderly conduct..." he listed.  He turned the device off and set it back down on the table.  "Not really anything worth the Titans' attention."

"Surprising, given how much Mad Mod hates this holiday and frequently seeks to disrupt it," Starfire mused idly, picking up a stack of paper plates and holding them at the ready, as Robin opened up the grill and released a fragrant puff of smoke.

Together they worked in tandem to put hot dogs and hamburgers in buns on the plates, Robin transferring the meat carefully with tongs.  Starfire's mouth watered.  There was something about charbroiled Earth grilling that made her nostalgic, reminded her of the summer feasts they used to have at home, before the war.

The folding serving table was soon quickly filled back up with ready-made plates, and almost just as quickly emptied, Titans moving eagerly into line.

Someone set off one of the bigger fireworks; it whistled loudly as it soared high into the air, then burst with a loud bang and a blossom of green sparks.

The gathered teens "oooh"ed in appreciation and gave a light scattering of applause.

Starfire was rather pleased and proud of herself that she hadn't flinched a bit.  Fireworks and thunder used to startle her, used to remind her of Gordanian attacks.  She'd told Robin as much the first time he'd taken her to see some, years ago at the carnival on the pier.

Her heart warmed with that nostalgic feeling again.  The lingering warmth in the sand felt good on her feet.

She grabbed one of the free-standing canvas chair scattered around and ate a quick plate of food, delighting in the tang of mustard and sharp sourness of the relish.

She gazed around as she ate.

Moments like this were when she truly loved Earth, truly felt like she belonged here, with these people and these cultures and traditions, with all her friends.  With the boy she loved, who had so patiently introduced her to this world. He came over and sat next to her shortly, pulling up a seat.

"Cyborg made me take a break," he said, smiling nonetheless.  He reached over and took her hand, squeezing it warmly.

Starfire squeezed back.  The happiness inside her was spilling over, making it hard for her not to float.  "I am not sure exactly why," she said, "but I think this is my favorite Earth holiday."

"Yeah?"

"There is an... innocence to it.  A sense of pride and..."  Starfire struggled to find the words, rifling through her mental English dictionary.  "...unbridled childhood," she finished.  Her eyes glimmered, reflections of the sparklers and fireworks dancing in the depths.  "The summer festivals on Tamaran were one of the only times I was allowed to mingle with ordinary citizenry from outside the palace.  It always made me feel more... connected to my people."

She let a wistful little smile play on her lips.

"There was a group of girls my age that would always play with me.  We would swim for hours, buy sweet treats from the vendors that set up all along the boulevard."  She sighed heavily.  "I still do not know what became of them."

Robin sobered.  "I'm sorry," he whispered sympathetically.

Starfire shook her head, dismissing her momentary sadness.  "It is okay.  I have all of you now," she said.

Robin raised their clasped palms to kiss the back of her hand.  "We should set off some fireworks," he suggested.

Her heart gave an excited flip, her wistfulness utterly forgotten, clearly a calculated move on her boyfriend's part.

"We should," Starfire agreed.  A playful grin spread across her face slowly as an idea came to her.  "But first..."

Without warning she grabbed him up in her arms and took to the air.

Robin yelped, flailing awkwardly as she beelined for the water, and shrieking as she dunked them both.

Cold ocean water swept over her head.  A quick push up with a foot and she broke the surface again.  Starfire laughed as she swept her straw hat off her now-soaked hair, water dripping off her golden skin.

Robin came up from the surf sputtering and laughing, smacking a handful of water into her face.  Starfire shrieked with mock indignation, getting her hands on his head and shoulders and immediately dunking him again.

They roughhoused in the water for several minutes before stumbling happily onto the sand, dripping saltwater and stealing kisses.

Their hands entwined once more as they walked to the fireworks station.

Who else thinks that Barbara in Unburied spent her teen years as Batgirl? That she was Batgirl until she was 19 and Jim was stabbed, and she quit vigilantism to take on the mantle of "the last good cop".

I'm betting that Barbara becomes Oracle after she's fired from the force. That she starts her P.I. business and Oracle is her backroom identity.

Does anyone else think that Bruce had adopted Dick Grayson in the Unburiedverse? That he has grown up and moved out and was being Nightwing on the other side of the country (or in an outer space mission with Starfire) during these events? Bruce's moral compass and capacity for compassion always grows stronger after he has adopted and mentors his children, and this Bruce/Batman has those qualities in spades.

This is all literally so canon 2 me…. Maybe for Dick it’s a scenario like B:TAS where he’s away at college 🥺 I can imagine when Bruce doesn’t answer his calls for awhile from the guilt about missing his parents deathiversary, Dick thinks he’s on a mission until Alfred calls and tells him about the crash.

And that makes a lot of sense for Barbara! I’m really hoping we get to see her as Oracle in the next season. And it would be really cool if her and Ed worked together as a collective guy in the chair haha. I love this Riddler so much and I feel like he’s definitely reformed enough in this universe to work with Batman more, at least based on how he did in the first season.

On the ‘I am not Starfire’ thing, it’s more about the background that people are pissed about. Starfire is a beloved character in DC, an absolute angel and a bit naive (also a warrior princess), but the comics made her a diva who isn’t such a good mother to her gothic daughter, claiming they’re too different to understand each other, even though Starfire is close friends with Raven, a literal hell spawn with heavy gothic vibes. In almost ever form of media Starfire is in, she has a relationship with Robin/Nightwing, yet he is completely gone in the comics, which is unusual to say the least. And in the old comics, the two already had a daughter, who is a complete 180 of the new one. The first daughter also only showed up in one short series, but people adored her and wanted more of her, creating lots of fanart and AU’s for the family. The new daughter Mandy, however, is a tad unlikable, wallows in self-pity, is too negative for her own good, and she looks suspiciously like her writer, almost too identical, like one would treat an OC.

Point is, people are pissed the writer managed to sell and publish her self insert fanfic as official material, completely wrecking the one thing people have been looking forward to.

I want to say I respect your opinion and your view is valid.

Okay so I should iterate I am a fan of Starfire. Always have been since the airing of Teen Titans on Cartoon Network. Robstar and BBRae for life. And I agree with what you are saying about Starfire.

I saw the trailer for the comic some time back and thought it wasnt for me. Forgot it even existed, then saw it just EXPLODE on Youtube.

It kind of annoyed me how many videos were actually about this. And you can tell the ones that were click bait for likes and likely didnt read it as well as the the ones that defend it staunchly just to hate on the people that criticized it. Just made me really sick of the whole thing.

There are a bunch of comics where they take beloved characters and make them act in f***ed up ways. DC and Marvel have done it so often that at this I pretty much figured that this was just another grain of sand. Besides it isnt part of the main timeline anyway so it was much less harm then... OTHER pieces of media that came out recently

But yes, if I read the comic and saw all of what you described I would be mad/annoyed with it. And I think those that have that criticism are warranted.

Also I did check to see what the author looked like and she looks 'very' similar to Mandy. (I WISH I was kidding.) You were not kidding about it being a self insert.

I am honestly not even mad. She got DC to okay her self insert fanfiction. That is pretty Damn funny.

But yea, the best thing to do is not give it anymore attention. People will see bad reviews and then journos try and use it to insult the readers that insulted them and it just becomes a bloody mess.

I aint gonna read it, so I dont plan on criticizing it or Praising it. I was just tired of the culture where people just bad mouthed or shamelessly praised something because they were told about it and not actually forming the opinion themselves.

Hmm, okay uh, I have no idea what I’m doing here but I feel like everyone needs positivity and so here’s a post where I’ll try to give just that.

First off, happy holidays and a good end of the year to everyone who reads this, I am glad that you’re here watching my blog and perhaps even interacting with me! Thank you for everything, whether that is a simple follow or an occasional (perhaps anon) ask, or actual interactions!

Next, I want to say that everyone that I’m seeing on my dash is absolutely amazing and I admire so many of you and am happy whenever I see you around! I am most likely very happy to have you around, especially if we’re mutuals and interacting with one another. I would probably love to talk with each of you more, but I’m just really bad at smalltalk or anything like that so with most people, I simply default to only messaging them (= you) when there’s something as a reason to do so. Sorry for that!

This goes out to everyone reading this: You’re awesome, I’m honored to have you here and interested in my blog, and I hope that your days or weeks or months will be great because you surely deserve it!

And then, I’ll now follow with a kind-of list mentioning a few people that I want to say more to. Which might sound repetitive because I suck at words in these regards, but yeah. Under a cut for length.

If you see this post and weren’t tagged, please don’t be sad or think I don’t value you being around! I can’t tag everyone, and I don’t have the best mind for things like coming up with someone that I forgot in the moments of writing this.

To not start off with the same names all the time, I wrote down the URLs I wanted to include and randomized the order. So don’t think anything by if you’re first or 5th or last on this list! And once more, I’m bad at words, so I’m sorry if this isn’t sounding too great or like it’s similar for each one.

I told myself to not include anyone that isn’t active-ish at the moment, but I made some exceptions to that because I felt that said person needed to be on my list.

@rogueprinceconsort ~ (I read the post you did recently more or less saying you’re leaving, but I wrote this before that post and it would have felt wrong to erase it from here only because of you leaving!) I enjoy our interactions a lot! They feel like they actually develop a story, which I can’t say for ALL my interactions but definitely for each one that we have going! Which is really cool! You’re one of the only few people where I have the chance to play around with different verses too (well, or at least one different verse, since our other two ongoing interactions are in the mainverses of my muses, but still), and you’re one of the few giving one of my OC-sideblogs a chance as well, and, just, I really am so thankful for it and happy to have you as a mutual!

@untouchable-lightning ~ You aren’t here at the moment, so let me just start this by saying that I hope that things will get better for you again soon! It’s a lot of fun to interact with you and I think you’re a good writer and I’m very happy for our interactions! They are always fun! I did not often yet get the chance to do this other RP-style that I do (the ‘choose-your-option’ one) and you are one of those that allowed me to play through it, and you also interact/ed with my sideblogs too, so a big thank you for that! Our threads also often last nicely long, which is absolutely amazing since it’s a big rarity these days, too. You’re great, and I’m happy that we’re mutuals and interaction-partners!

Unpopular yj opinions time

I understand why people love Violet, but I couldn’t give a fuck less about her and I wish she had less screentime

Brion is one of my favorite YJ characters EVER, purely for his potential

I want a Wendy Jones arc way more than I want Jason Todd. We see enough of him in comics but Wendy has an interesting story that I wanna see rebooted.

I don’t give a single shit about failsafe. I get that it effected the s1 cast but I don’t care about it at all. And they had plenty of other experiences that shaped them way more than Failsafe did.

I wouldn’t mind a big time skip again if they did it well—not that I think they’ll do it well

I want more of Virgil on his own. He has interesting dynamics with characters like Bart, but I wanna know more about him individually. His relationship with Jeff, his personality, his interests. I feel like a lot of canon is just him being a cheerleader or a fallback for other characters, and I love that he’s supportive but shit, can he have one independent trait?

Can Traci like...say three words that aren’t about a man? Holy shit.

I wish the characters weren’t so generically “superhero types”. Uptight Kaldur, quippy Dick, innocent M’gann, morally grey Roy Harper? I love them but i think those archetypes are way too common in superhero stories. Why not a photographer hero who takes photos of fights? An aspiring journalist who writes all their crazy adventures down in a small notebook? A punk superhero? A witch who wears a talisman on the battlefield? A medic who has no goddamn idea what they’re doing?

Speaking of which, why tf does the YJ team not have a medic? We don’t see a defined medic in any of the teams. Not the League, not the Outsiders. The batfam has Alfred, but are we meant to assume that the entire team relies on him? Or Dr Dorado? Helga is in the Outsiders’ medbay, but who filled that role before her? And after her? They need a healer.

Yknow what? On that note, I don’t want YJ to have mainstream characters anymore. I want them to keep reviving and rebooting characters that haven’t been used in a long ass time, or utilizing minor characters to the fullest. I don’t wanna see Raven or Starfire or Red Hood or Bizarro. I want Karen Singh, Audrey Spears, Julia Pennyworth, Carrie Kelley.

However, I love this version of Beast Boy and I wanna see more of him. I wish he had an accent though, maybe a TCK or polyglot accent where he has an accent in every single language. He didn’t move to the US until he was eight, accents finish developing at seven. Assuming he lived somewhere else before that animal sanctuary, that’s a potential for three languages being spoken in everyday life.
