There are many Saints Row fans that only like the first 2 games, and I can see why, it became a bit of a circus from 3 on but, honestly, I enjoy playing the circus that is Saints Row The Third, IV and Gat out of Hell. But... I do hate what happened after that... Agents of Mayhem and especially that fucking Saints Row reboot... idc about em, and it's sad cause Gat out of Hell had 5 endings, it's fun and all that they made the "rebuild the planet" ending canon but, first of all, they could have done that better... they could have remade the original SR1 with changes, making it just different enough to be worth playing instead of the original SR1 which is almost lost now as it was Xbox only (*cough* play it on an emulator *cough*) but from the "find a new home planet" and "let Johnny Gat be the new leader of Hell" they could have made games too. On the new home planet ending Kinzie said it'll be our toughest fight yet... I wanna play that. And Johnny as the new leader of Hell? I loved Gat out of Hell, even tho it is really short... I would have loved more of that... they really did the worst possible thing with that reboot... give me Johnny as the new Satan or let me take over a new planet with the crew 😭

idk why it fills me with such vitriol. maybe because i'm not a fan of supernatural 'demons' and crap, maybe its because i hate superpowers being a core mechanic, or maybe its because i don't care about Blackbeard and Shakespeare in a Saints Row game yet they're shoved down my throat anyway.

sometimes i really wanna rewrite saints row to fit my canon.

sr1 is fine. the playa is still getting their feet wet, they might not know everything. but there’s no reason for things to go down in sr2 like they did.

for starters, there’s no reason why the boss would put some newbie like carlos in charge of the brotherhood when johnny fucking gat isn’t doing anything. he, pierce, and shaundi all had more experience with shit like that up to that point than carlos did-- if carlos wanted to prove himself so bad, put him second on one of them, not in charge. keep shaundi on the sons of samedi and pierce on the ronin, and that leaves gat the brotherhood. given that gat wouldn’t get overzealous like carlos (not that he doesn’t get overzealous, just in different ways), that means aisha wouldn’t have to die-- plus leaving pierce the ronin would give him an opportunity to show the boss that he can actually, y’know, be competent when people give him a chance instead of everyone giving him shit all the time always. (really, johnny.... kinda brought all that shit on himself, going in guns blazing like that.) 

if aisha didn’t die, then i’m willing to bet that by the time srtt happens, johnny wouldn’t be so reckless trying to get the boss to safety like that. even if he was, that really leaves one target for the boss: the morningstar. this is more personal headcanon, but for me, the boss doesn’t want two cities. fuck that shit. they don’t need a shithole like steelport, they’ve already got their own. solution: killbane is the biggest ego in steelport. matt’s a “virtual god” or whatever, but he has such a small foothold in steelport itself; killbane’s face is plastered on every billboard in the city. murderbrawl is huge. he’s bigger. if the boss could convince killbane to take out the deckers, then the saints could focus on morningstar to get revenge for johnny. that would leave steelport entirely to the luchadores while the saints could get out scot-free. 

i also don’t buy that the boss would run for president, much less that the people of america would vote them in. (then again, trump is president, so who the fuck knows anymore.) that’s not to say the boss wouldn’t be a public figure, especially with the way things were going in srtt. so it’s still reasonable that zinyak would target them, though maybe less because they were the president and more because the boss is so fucking audacious that they would try and take on an alien invasion on their own. it would also change johnny’s simulation dream, but i dunno what his greatest fear would be, then. maybe watching eesh and the boss both get killed? i dunno.

also, fuck everything they said about dex post-sr1. there’s no reason for him to do the shit he did in that dlc, and there’s no reason that johnny or kinzie would want to kill him ten times over in sr:gooh. julius or matt would’ve been a better option, depending on who the player chooses.

Least favorite mission per Saints Row game?

Honestly? Good question, lemme think a minute and refresh my memory.

SR: Never played.

SR2: Probably ‘Burning Down the House’, where you have to torch the Samedi drug labs and then chase the fleeing guy. It usually takes me at least a couple of tries before I can get him. In general any SR2 mission or activity where I have to get in and out of a car several times in a row ranks fairly low on my list because that’s usually when my game crashes.

SR:TT: I almost said ‘Zombie Attack’, but honestly, doing ‘Three Way’ twice with every Boss to get both endings is actually worse in the long run because it’s so long and tedious and also one of the only ones where you have to watch your health even on easy difficulty.

SRIV: The beginning tutorials drag on forever, so I’m naming both ‘Learn the Rules...’  and ‘Breaking the Law’. Just give me my powers and let me start saving people, dammit!

SR:GOOH: Hahahaha there are barely missions in GOOH, and the few actual story ones are quite decent. The worst are probably the “loyalty” ones, that are just checklists of activities to get 100%. Also I guess fighting Satan 5 times if you want to get all endings yourself (I only did it twice and then watched the rest on Youtube).

Also... for whoever else played SR1 on the Xenia Canary emulator... does anyone know why the playlist part doesn't work for me? All music works fine but whenever I select songs in the store or in the playlist, it doesn't play. When making the playlist it pretends to play but I don't hear anything. In cars I can't even select the playlist. Anyone knows a fix?
