Ha...just membered today's the 23rd anniversary of "Kenny Dies" airing. So 23yrs ago Kenny "died for good". Damn.

saw this meme going around and decided to give my take on it. not very proud of the end result admittedly 😅

Kenny finally cracking and telling his friends that he is immortal knowing they won’t believe him is nothing less than heartbreaking. This is a boy who has endured some of the most violent, gruesome deaths. Has experienced a wide array of pain and torture, mostly in front of his friends. He hears them in his last waking moments acknowledge that he has passed and yet when he wakes up the next day, he finds they have all forgotten the trauma and pain he went through, greeting him at the same bus stop as if nothing had happened.

So, when he is finally on the cusp of figuring out why this happens to him, why he is the only one who has to go through this torment again and again, his friend are treating it as nothing more than a game (because to them, as kids, it is nothing but a game of superheroes). He snaps, he tells them “I'm being serious! I really, really can't die!” with the knowledge that they’ll think he’s crazy. He tries to tell them that he dies all the time, and he tacks on “and you assholes never remember” as if that’s something important to him. Kenny wants them to remember, he wants to know that he is missed and people grief him and that his death isn’t something easily forgettable to the people who he cares about the most, and who are suppose to care about him. But they carry on being skeptical, even thinking they’re indulging him by suggesting that if it were true it would be pretty cool to be immortal.

No. It’s not cool to Kenny, it’s confusing and painful and he drives that point home by shooting himself in the head, urging them to “fucking remember.” He doesn’t get to see their shock and sadness at his death, he never does. Instead, he wakes up the next day and when he asks if they remember, he’s met with a chuckle and a “what?”

But no matter how painful it is to die, no matter how frustrated he gets that people can’t remember it happening, he is still willing to kill himself in order to save his friends because that’s just who Kenny is. He’s a selfless kid. He’ll throw himself off a cliff and onto some spikes, getting himself stabbed in the chest if it means getting his friends back, because no matter how much it annoys him that they can’t seem to remember one of the most important parts of him, he still loves that enough that he is literally willing to die for them.

How did you feel when Kenny Dies first aired? And did you takeba break from South Park until he returned in season 6 or were you still in a fan in that gap?

Honestly when "Kenny Dies" originally aired I wasn't really aware yet that this was intended to be Kenny's "final" episode. It was still pretty emotional you know. I mean even to this day watching Stan finally gather up the courage to see his dying friend only to be met with an empty bed and Kyle there to tell him that Kenny was asking for him before he died still gets me. But back when it aired, even though a few older wiser fans had speculated that M&T were killing Kenny for good, I didn't think they were actually going through with that being his final episode. Ha of course a few month after season 6 first aired and it was confirmed of course I was a bit sad heartbroken even. Weird to say for a fictional character I know but he was and still is my favorite after all....I admit to being a bit attached to him. XD I actually did try to take a break from South Park then seeing as Kenny wasn't even there anymore but I would still end up watching some of the episodes to see maybe if M&T had changed their minds. Of course they didn't for a while and as the season progressed at one point I felt maybe I was ready to let the show go….but no joke that's when "Red Sleigh Down" aired and an online friend of mine way back(sadly who I lost contact with some years ago) told me she was sure that Kenny had returned…I didn't believe her so I watched myself and wouldn't you know it he was back! So I guess I was some what on and off a fan-ish....maybe? Season 6 was a trying time without Kenny though I admit there were some episodes I did manage to enjoy but I was still missing him. I do like both Butters and Tweek but no one can replace Kenny imo. XD

Kenny's weekend :

It seemed like just another weekend.

After Kenny got hit on the head by a broken bottle that was thrown during one of his parents' nth fights. He quietly went outside to freshen up.

Upon leaving, he didn't zip his parca all the way up like he usually would. It was fully open, exposing his stained shirt and his usually hidden face. But he was too tired to care.

It was especially cold that day, he dully noted, as he walked for what seemed like forever. Blood seeping from the open wound and dripping down his face.

His destination was the park, to sit on one of the swings. His favourite spot to forget about his shitty life. But the universe wasn't done toying with him apparently because he suddenly collapsed in the snow due to his injury.

'What a life. Shit'

And so he laid there in the cold snow, his wound having worsened from the harsh fall. Blood clouding his vision, he shut his eyes close.

He was sure he would die of hypothermia, if not from blood loss or a concusion, and he couldn't bring himself to care.

He could get up if he really tried; go look for a somewhat warm shelter or even head back home. He walked through much worse after all. But he didn't. To hell with it.

....

Maybe a small part of him hoped, not for the first time, that someone would come for him. He should know better by now. Blood loss must be getting to his head.

No one will ever save or help him. He is on his own. Left to bleed out and be in pain until he dies.

That is until he hears someone urgently calling out his name and coming over to him.

He briefly wonders if he is hallucinating before dying.

No. he knows what a hallucination before death is like. Has experienced it many times before, and this isn't it.

The person is much closer now, and although he can't make out what they are saying, he can tell they are swearing at him.

"....who ?" He manages to let out.

The person doesn't seem to hear him and continues to speak. He focuses to understand what they are saying.

"-Kenny ! Come on, get up !"

He hears from a strangely familiar voice, despite how muffled the sound is. He could feel the figure now hovering over him, and he made an effort to open his eyes.

"...to go where ?"

He croaks out, sounding a bit disoriented. His throat sore from the cold.

Squinting through his blurry vision, he saw what seemed to be an outstretched hand, right in his face.

"My place duh !"

The voice, which was starting to sound clearer, exclaimed as if that was obvious. And the offered hand was wriggling to prompt Kenny to take it.

"...."

Kenny was dazed, not only from his injury, but also because an actual person wanted to help him when he was close to death. He couldn't believe it.

"...Kenny ?"

His mind was reeling, and the voice was quickly drowned out by his thoughts. How could anyone come here for him ?

"Kenny."

There was no way, but this definitely wasn't the grim ripper. It never bothered with small talks. So it had to be an actual person, but who exactly?

"Kenny !"

The voice seemed unnerved by his lack of response because they stopped offering him a hand and began frantically nudging him instead.

"Hey Kenny ! Are you dead already !?"

The action snapped him out of his thoughts and made him regain his senses. He realized the owner of the voice was a boy he knew.

No, it couldn't be....Cartman ?! He must have hit his head really hard. But that voice and the comment about him being already dead were undeniable. Still, he had to see for himself.

So he painstakingly widened his eyes and focused his vision, and sure enough, he could see Cartman looking down at him.

"Oh good. You're not dead yet"

Cartman sighs, sounding almost relieved ? Kenny must have been knocked dead already.

"Now get up"

He didn't have to tell him twice, Kenny wanted to get up as well, so he moves to do just that. Only he can't.

He doesn't know how much time has passed since he has been lying in the cold snow. But it seems his limbs were far too frozen and numb to move without some effort.

No big deal, he could do that. But when he tries again with more force, the blood loss makes him lightheaded, rendering him unable to sit up for long.

Cartmam clearly gets impatient with him because he grabs Kenny's forearm and tugs on it in an attempt to hoist him up.

"???"

"Come on Kenny ! Help me out here and move your poor scrawny ass !"

He groans, sounding out of breath and irritated as he tugs harder. He really didn't want Kenny to lay there any longer.

Kenny was confused. Who could blame him ? But at the familiar insults, he simply laughs and indulges Cartman because what the hell.

He uses his remaining strength to get up, allowing Cartman to rest his arm over Cartman's shoulders for support.

"There."

Cartman declares, after some adjustments, seemingly satisfied with their position. He then begins to walk them to who knows where.

"You're being weird Eric"

Kenny couldn't help but comment with a smile, as he does his best to match the pace so that Cartman wouldn't exert himself while supporting him.

And Cartman doesn't say anything to that and he remains strangely quiet.

He wonders what could Cartman possibly gain from this ? He knew there were times Cartman would give him scraps of kindness. Usually passing them off as shows of 'superiority', which was him acting like an asshole really.

Although, he didn't mind as long as he got something nice anyway.

Far in between were the few occasions where Cartman was being genuine without having to prove anything to anyone. Kenny understood why he is that way. He was used to it.

So it's a real wonder why he went out of his way to look for him and actively help him. This is also a big service compared to the small gestures he usually does.

Was this incident worse than the norm. Did he really look so hurt and miserable this time around that even Cartman would take pity on him ?

He laughs at his own thoughts, his eyes glazing over. So what if he is in pain ?

"It's not that big of a deal..."

"...."

Cartman was silent for a moment longer as they continued walking. But they both know he heard Kenny.

"Don't just laugh it off idiot..."

He mutters as he looks ahead, walking a bit more slowly. This made Kenny pause and he turns to look at Cartman with wide eyes.

"What was that ?"

He asks, even though he clearly heard him. But he seriously can't believe it.

"I said I hate you Kinny !"

Cartman exclaims, pointedly looking away from him.

Kenny is stunned for a moment before he breaks into cackles, leaning even more on Cartman's shoulders.

"..right"

"EY ! Don't lean on me so much or we're gonna fall !"

Cartman warns irritatedly, as he almost slips on the frozen sidewalk.

Kenny just snickers more in response, but he adjusts his posture so he that won't fall.

He almost misses how Cartman pronounced his name right throughout their conversation until he called him 'Kinny' again just now.

And despite the strangeness of the situation, the two young boys walked in companiable silence.

i can’t be the only one who desperately wishes that Tammy (from the season 13 episode “The Ring”) had stayed Kenny’s girlfriend. They were so cute together and it’s about time that Kenny gets more plots or importance. Any sort of character development or status quo changes (like having a long term girlfriend) is needed for Kenny. They matched each others freak🙏
