As a Homestuck fan, Homestuck has completely deep fried some of y'all's brains with lethal amounts of irony poisoning. This fanbase is fucking weird about minorities and the source of it probably lies in the work and fandom itself normalizing that kind of behavior. There's a lot of reasons why I go out of my way to not follow many Homestuck blogs, but that's definitely a big one. A lot of people need to learn that a bigoted joke is still bigoted. Making that joke enough times will lead to internalization of its contents. It'll get normalized to you whether you like it or not, and that satire will become unrecognizable as such. Irony poisoning awaits.

Weirdness about minorities extends beyond jokes. Many people try to fix Homestuck by internally increasing the diversity within it, but don't take a step back to process what needs to be fixed in the first place and why. They don't evaluate what bigotries Hussie held that influenced the ways in which he wrote things. There's often no effort made to mitigating or evaluating the racism in any real capacity, and oftentimes when people do make an effort to do so, they're shut down. Painting bigotry in progressive paint with no efforts made to reconcile or be critical of it is about the same as dousing a shit in glitter. The smell's still there, it's just prettier to look at now. It doesn't get rid of the problem. Don't like it.
