SO. I wrote up a really long response to this that tumblr decided to delete when I tried to post and I didn’t have any of it saved SOOO. If this comes off as rambly or incoherent I’m very sorry I tried 😭 ALSO THIS IS JUST HOW I DO IT, NOT HOW I THINK EVERYONE SHOULD DO IT!!! Do ur lineart in whatever way feels right and makes you happy!

I do most of my stuff in Autodesk Sketchbook, which unfortunately doesn’t have an automatic recording feature (and the recording option it does have is kinda clunky and distracting 💔) BUT. PROCREATE DOES, SO WE HAVE THIS

I focus more on the gesture and the shapes than trying to make it look “good”. Truly it’s a “going with the vibes situation”, because I tend to switch things up quite a bit when drawing (although that isn’t really shown here 💔). If there is a movement or particular shape in the sketch, I will try to capture its essence as much as I can (this doesn’t mean sticking close to the sketch, just means I’m trying to capture the general vibe or the line of action and trying to remain faithful to it)!! My favorite part of the process, and the part I focus on the most, is coloring so my lineart is really tailored to make coloring easier for me, so there’s not a lot of details or crosshatching or anything of that nature… I’m really just blocking stuff out to make coloring easier hehe

Tho, okayyy, I apologize beforehand for how incoherent this might be, since I don't really have a set process at all and mostly I fake it 'til i make it haha. I'm the first to admit that I don't have a ver consistent method and that shows in how irregular in quality my art can look, even inside the general sketchy look.

(Btw sorry if some of the fanart i use for example doesn't make you comfortable but I've tried to find the best examples for each type of coloring haha)

I'll start with the brushes I rely on the most, tho I admit i made the mistake of downloading too many brushes and textures so I might use others on rare occassions xddd

These are basically the brushes I use the most. The "mezclador redondo" is just CSP's default paintbrush and I only tweaked it to find sth I liked and felt comfortable with for both lining and painting

As you can see here I only used one layer for lines and other three for each of the guys' colors. I colored it all with the default brush (tho unfortunately I lost the settings I used for this drawing in particular and haven't found them again rip). In drawings like this I just do a sketch, clean the lines (no lineart) and then paint it. After the base color I start laying out different hues to make the coloring more interesting.

This one was the same. One layer for coloring, manually adding lighter hues (see the more light and yellowish color on grovyle's left leg compared to the shadow) or darker tones. I try to add color to the shadows as well to make them feel less flat, and an airbrush in overlay tends to help with that (tho here I just used a brush).

Here you can see that I often paint over the lines on another layer to correct mistakes in the "lineart" lol. I also applied an airbrush (layer mode overlay) over celebi to make her more bright. I wanted to put this one to show that coloring doesn't have to be detailed to look nice enough. Here Celebi basically has no shadows at all but the tone of the drawing makes her look cute anyways imo ^^

In these two you can see adjustements over the full image again (yellow layer), but I also wanted to show that I don't have a set number of layers either, it depends on how many I feel like using. Again, sorry for the lack of consistency but im too lazy to have a proper method lmao

I will also use harder brushes and tone changes sometimes, instead of blending them with less dense brushes. I am also fond of adding hard lighting in some drawings. You can experiments with it on a top layer and delete it if it doesn't fit, so it's always worth a try.

Another thing I recommend is studying and copying artists you admire or like. Add things from their styles into yours, see how they work with proportions and try to use that in your own art. It has helped me a lot and, without looking to fully copy anyone's style, it does give you some ideas of how you wish your drawing would look, which motivates me (when it doesn't depress me lol)

Finally, the texturing isn't consistent either. I use one of CSP's/Downloaded texture packs, put a grainy texture on the canvas, set it to overlay and adjust the opacity until I'm satisfied. In these two images you can see I am not consistent in coloring even in the same comic lmao. But we are doing this for fun, so I think experimentation is always sth worth exploring ^^

And I think that's all I have to say. I don't control color theory at all, so I can't really explain how I choose colors. I look up some tutorials on youtube and pretend I understand lol. Ig the one thing I tend to do a lot is changing hues in a base color to make it look less flat, the same as with shadows.

so watching the last two epsiodes has approximately felt like being put through a meat grinder, but i just /need/ to talk about this specific bit of this scene.

the way su mengzhen turned to yang wuxie after everyone else as if looking for a last glimmer of hope for the one person he thought might take his side, like he clearly trusts him so much and they must have such a history together, wuxie would know everything this means to him.

and the clear conflict from wuxie knowing mengzhen will absolutely view this as a betrayal, because in some ways it is. but also throughout the show wuxie has been so desperate to keep mengzhen alive, so obviously he /has/ to go against him if it’ll keep him safe for just a little bit longer.

just the look of betrayal on mengzhens face when wuxie says it, and the way it wasnt just that wuxie couldnt look him in the eyes afterwards, he had to physically turn his body away because he knows how much hurt he just caused.

like the way mengzhen keeps sacrificing himself for others over and over again, but the idea of anyone else trying to do that or anyone trying to stop him is so alien to him???

OK i hope i'm not bothering you but im the same anon who made the castlevania connection and i've been thinking :3c [Castlevania spoilers for the general lore/tw death, fire] since Lisa got burned because she was considered a witch in middle ages i think Malleus' s/o would get killed because they are married to a fae, a fae royalty to make things worse [if i remember correctly Faes and humans have problems in twst Canon but im not sure] that would wreck Malleus since his s/o was the first human to steal his heart and now they are gone because of their own kin, also Lilia could take the role of Death as Dracula's servant since death was very royal to Dracula and has been there with him for the longest time.. Sorry if any of these sound incoherent i can't speak English jdhsjshjssbsjj

It's pretty well known that there has been wars between fae and humans in the past, there's also a possibility that Malleus's or even Silver's parents might've been killed during those wars. Malleus on the other hand would one day be the King of fairies, therefore he's most likely expected to marry a fae of a proper social, and royal class like him.

If Malleus waa meant to fall for a human of all creatures, it's not that far from mind that not only the valley of thorns, but rather the whole community would object to his marriage as the future King. At this point most of them (expect those close to him like Lilia, Sebek or Silver) don't even care about Malleus's desires and decisions; his genuine feelings for a man child isn't enough to wash away the hatred and bitterness the whole fae community hold toward humans, therefore going against Malleus's wish and... getting rid of s/o would be crucial if the royal family wants to avoid another war.

While Malleus believes this marriage would be a chance for fae and humans to reunite, the chaos caused between the fae community is overwhelming; even members of the royal Court riot when the truth behind young prince's secret lover is unfold and soon enough, (y/n) is marked as a threat to the entire valley of thorns.

Yet, Malleus would still choose to marry his beloved child of man regardless of the great antagonism his marriage faced, he is the King and he has the final word to decide whether he should marry his s/o or not.

As he's aware if the hatred his people may hold towards his s/o now, he trusts you with his trusted and loyal bodyguard, Silver and Sebek to protect you from any possible danger; leaving the castle as well is considered to be a threat, so the s/o needs to be under extreme protection which insures their safety.

However, several years after his marriage to s/o, Malleus decides maybe the word is now ready to accept this child of man as their King's partner since it's been years since the last wave of oppositions toward the King's marriage.

Perhaps it's finally time for human and fae to reunite as fairies have finally accepted his s/o, however...

It was meant to be from humans, the s/o gets killed, by the hands of their own people.

He thought s/o could change the way he saw humans, he thought he was going to forget the wounds those disgusting creatures had left on his heart, he thought he could finally come to trust humans but ah, how fool of him.

My my... wasn't he being just too naive? Thinking that there was actually a way for humans to change but no, humans will never change. He laughs at his own patheticness for trusting humans with his beloved child of man's safety as his heart shatters to thousands of pieces, (y/n) is gone, he lost them, he lost them.

It was his very own fault for being such a fool, his love for s/o had blinded him to the point of forgetting what humans are truly like. His hatred toward humans shall last till the very end of this pathetic world and will takeover each and every of those pathetic creatures expect for one, (y/n).

S/o is the true love of his life and the only human Malleus will never hate, they were superior in each and every aspects Malleus could've used to measure a creature's worthiness and purity, if (y/n) of all human had to be the one to die, then no one, not a single soul of them deserves to breathe.

Way through human history, humans have done nothing but to destroy and sacrifice other creatures for the sake of their own greed and fear, their patheticness, their unworthiness, their selfishness.

Humans are the cause of nothing but pain and harm, therefore they shouldn't exist.

...If this, is meant to be how his story ends, let it also be the end of all humans who took his beloved, his child of man, his (y/n) from him...
