Small Rant About RE

Hello gang... This has been on my mind for awhile. Today we're talking about Resident Evil and particularly Leon stans. Now I'm gonna come out and say I am one of them! I love that silly little blonde man and he's like number 1 on my favorite capcom white boy tier list next to Cody from Final Fight/SF.

Let me make it clear, I'm not kink shaming, I'm not advocating for censorship. Art and literature shouldn't be censored. Sex is cool. Kink is cool (when safe and consensual).

I'm gonna be one of those fans real quick and say, I've been an RE fan since I was like 7. That doesn't really mean much since I can't drink legally but I've been in love with Leon since elementary school. I watched my Dad and brother play RE6 co-op and man... Aka I've been in the fandom for a fat minute. Before the RE2 remake came out I'd see the occasional Dead Dove fic but that's whatever. But I have never seen this much dark romance about Leon of all people!

Like. Call it the T-Virus the way it's everywhere I swear I can't scroll down the damn tag without getting hit with a sexual crime. And let me say, I'm not new to fandom culture. I take don't like don't read to heart (I'm super picky LMAO). And I understand that, that's just how big fandoms are, more people, more bad eggs. I'm sure the majority of y'all are sweet people.

BUT I feel like I shouldn't have to say that romanticizing things like pedophilia, rape, abuse, and incest is disgusting in the big year 2025 but here we are. Honestly, I feel this way about a lot of the fics of other fandoms I'm in. I feel crazy seeing it everywhere and it makes me feel like some sort of sexual puritan. Am I insane for wanting freaky smut and not ...freaky smut??

There for sure is a bigger conversation here about how easily accessible porn is and how quick people to fall into these pipelines. Or how booktok caused a rise in the normalization of dark romance troupes and just pure porn writing (I still hate icebreaker). Or how quick form constant content is slowly leaking it's way into everything. But we’d be here for forever…

And like, it's just completely out of character?? Like if you're gonna write about that can it at least be in character? Wesker fits the dark romance thing LEAGUES better. But LEON?? THE POLICE OFFICER?? Did you even watch a walkthrough? Leon is a sweet upstanding guy with lots of trauma, that is the last thing he'd do to ANYONE! Not saying fics have to be completely accurate all the time but there's literally nothing fun about "Omg what if Leon RAPED you!?" HES NOT THE EVIL RESIDENT HERE GUYS! At some point it's not even about Leon (or whoever the fic is about) anymore, it's just someone wanting to share their sexual fantasies online.

These topics are almost never written with any care and are insanely insensitive to the survivors of these acts. I don't know, sexual crimes are literally some of the most deplorable acts of hatred and depravity someone can do onto another person. I can't imagine getting off to the suffering of others (in a heinous crime way not BDSM way) (BDSM is cool). Have some fucking empathy and stop thinking with your goon wad guys <3

You can tell a lot about a person by how they treat their fictional characters. Another thing I don’t like are the Gooner mods for the games. Like they’re fun every once in a while and like if it’s a capcom game you have to expect it. At some point though, it just stops being sexy and feels gross or uncomfortable.

Idk maybe I’m in the minority here but there has never been a single time where I was playing any RE game and thought to myself, “man… I wish I could see Leon’s end rod whipping in the wind rn…” Obviously, I wanna see that man oiled up butt booty naked doing jumping jacks like as most normal people do but… zawg…

That’s also like an actual person?? At least for the remakes. Maybe this just isn’t my dove to eat but the treat Leon like some sort doll. I know it’s kinda weak to be like this for a fictional person but yeah </3

I don't know, I don't think any kind of long hair would suit Chris really. Like not even Leon's hairstyle would work on him, 🤣. I think short hair best suits Chris like the one he's had in STARS era to RE5 and the "Ceasar" haircut (not sure if that's what that hairstyle is called?) in RE6 and beyond.

okay more photos before i continue playing the game so that i don't have a backlog (thirty is the limit on here and i thought that was a lot but clearly it's not enough)

first off, some more luis backstory that i actually wasn't aware of this time around. i never went back to the manor after you get ashley on my first playthrough because i was literally just trying to get through the game. i came back for the "not like other dogs" dog. and it is dead now (sorry dog). i was lowkey worried that it was going to give me a straight up normal dog (since all the other damn dogs, minus hewie, are infected - and therefore the infected is the norm, etc. that's how my brain was working) So i thought that to get the request done it was going to make me kill a normal dog or something. i don't know why i had such a morbid thought like that but anyways. glad i didn't have to kill a normal dog. although having a request that was just like "find my dog please it ran away when the town went to shit" and then you have to find like a lil domesticated dog and bring it food to get it to follow you and bring it back to the merchant would be so DAMN CUTE. the doggy can briefly help you out along the way and then you just bring him to the merchant and boom request done. and then for the rest of the game the dog is just sitting next to the merchant at each of his stations for the rest of the game just lounging about and being a good doggy, implying that it was just the merchants dog and he was like "oh shit i can't clock out, mind grabbing my dog for me i left him at the chief's manor" anyways.

How would you make a new design for leon in re6? If you could think of something like clothes or appearance with his new remake model..when I think about how they can fit the Leon remake with a possible re6 Leon remake I don't know how it would look

Like...I've seen mods of him with a beard or trying to make him look similar, but I think maybe they will just "here, take this" and feed the fandom with "dilf" leon or not

i saw this and i went "this is a pretty good look for an RE6make leon"

like i don't know who this artist is, but most porn artists make leon look younger for some reason, so i saw this and i was like "this is a pretty good take on an older remake leon"

because in OG i always felt like, between RE4 and RE6, leon looked old for 27 and young for 35. and i thought this was a good capture of that, because like. his features are sharper because he's older but he doesn't look old, his hair's just a little bit longer, and the scruff is proper depression scruff. like idk i just thought this artist did a good job.

costume-wise, i don't see it really changing much. i feel like ID is evidence that they like leon's tall oaks outfit, since it's really really similar. and leon's china outfit is pretty iconic for RE6. i just see minor tweaks being given to either -- like how leon's outfit in RE4make was really similar to his OG outfit but more detailed and not exact.

I'm don't dive deep into the fandom because I've had enough with toxicity so I get all my news secondhand, but now that you reminded me that ID exists, I'm just so uncomfortable that cl*eon shippers will scrutinize every word that comes out of Ada's mouth but Claire and Leon literally had a disagreement that ended their friendship and the shippers just gloss right over that like it didn't happen.

I did see one tweet that was wanting Claire to be Leon's partner in RE6 instead of Helena and I'm pretty sure Claire was either super far away or busy at the time so I don't know how that would even work or why she would be there to begin with. Just seems like nostalgia and people ignoring the development these characters go through. Like, no one is the same person they were in RE2. IDK, I'm rambling, sorry.

for sure the fandom is extremely toxic in certain spots.

i think that's always going to be an issue with a growing fandom, as well as a younger newer fandom joining as also. lots of opinions and theories that have already been talked about and a lot of misinformed opinions because they're new to the lore. there's nothing inherently wrong with having a new misinformed or uninformed opinion- but just don't get angry at people who come back at you with facts from the canon because they've played all the games already.

i can immediately tell if someone has ONLY watched/played re2make because they usually end up saying some dumb shit because they don't know anything else about the rest of the games. again, nothing wrong with that, it's just a misguided opinion.

i really do believe that cl*on shippers use the canon whenever it's convenient to them. not to say that other shippers don't do the same. but there's such a formula to how they ship leon and claire. it hardly deviates from this formula. and if you "attack" it in any way. well you're a hater or automatically an ada stan or something or "a supporter of a manipulative bitch"

a lot of them use tactics to try and argue their way out of it, the only problem is that i can see through it.

i don't need to go over the obvious points already. leon and claire are no longer friends in the canon. and he has specified that he sees her and treats her like a kid. he does not view her as a romantic partner. they seem to gloss over this.

no one (NO ONE) has EVER said that leon and ada's relationship is HEALTHY. but as adults, we realize that relationships are much more nuanced than that. not every single relationship is wholesome and pure, and if that's what you strive towards in real life, then that's gREAT.

people like the aeon ship for a multitude of reasons. because it's canon/interesting/captivating/a nice play on and reversal on the whole "damsel in distress / strong hero man." but no one has ever claimed that the relationship is healthy. so let's get that out of the way.

when you ship cl*on and you SPECIFICALLY do things where you mod ada out, and replace her with claire. you are SPECIAL PLEADING. you are choosing to allow claire these special privileges. and the reason why people tend to call cl*on shippers racists or misogynistic, is because you are FALLING into these thinking patterns.

if you NEED to "call out" ada on her sexuality. or compare her to claire in a way where claire is placed on this "pure wholesome" pedestal, and ada is a "slut or whore," you are catering towards misogyny.

that women who are sexual in nature, are automatically not worthy.

and YES YOUNG GIRLS ARE PERPETUATING THIS IDEA.

when you replace ada with claire in re2make, and you play out all these ada scenarios with claire's face, but ada's voice, and ada's narrative and mannerisms. but you ALLOW these things to be "okay" then you are BEING RACIST. boil it down. you are replacing ADA's FACE with a white girl's face. and suddenly everything she does is okay? all these scenes with ada previously, where she was "so manipulative" and "evil," they're suddenly okay now that it's claire's face?

explain to me why.

explain to me why in cl*on fics, ada is portrayed as an "asian whore."

tell me why these things are OKAY in any way shape or form.

lots of people have already stated that in the canon, claire was nowhere near them in re6 time, so they couldn't have had her in it. helena was written instead and it actually makes sense to have her there. leon and helena's campaign is entirely helena's story with ada popping in occasionally to help them.

i understand that people like claire. it's an easy character to like, and she's very much a self insert. and that's how a lot of the resident evil characters are written.

what i'm not going to tolerate is when people use misogyny and racism to back up what they think is appropriate discourse on characters. i'm not going to take misinformed opinions as truth, and im not going to entertain delusional ships that i do not personally enjoy. and in that being said, i do need feel the need to shit on characters to get a point across.

being in the fandom for this long, all i've seen are toxic shippers, and people being racist and misogynistic. some of the good ones are the ones that i follow and keep up with. and i try to allow myself to some discourse occasionally to ensure that i don't rely on an echo chamber of thoughts and opinions.

Ok here's the thing... I've heard that Revelations 3 is in development and Rebecca Chambers comes back, probably as a main character. And it got me thinking, who would I like to see take the lead in Rev 4?

I saw this picture and I realized, I'd like the 4th Revelations game to be set way back, between RE4 and RE5 and be about these two, Albert Wesker and Ada Wong, imagine how interesting that would be, imagine playing as a character that is not trying to escape, or survive, or save people. Instead they are infiltrating some kind of facility and they are releasing a virus to cause chaos.

And yeah I know Ada is technically "good" she is kinda a vigilante since RE6 but I'd like to see a different side to her, a "ends justify the means" kind of thing 🤔 I imagine the gameplay for her sections would be classic RE, now for Wesker it'd be different, he'd have the same abilities he had in 5 so yeah, dodging bullets, being strong enough to beat a Tyrant with his fists, etc. so it'd be pure action in a way that might sound out of place for RE but just look at all the mods that make boss Wesker playable in RE5, it is great and fun to play to this day.

The more I think about it the more I want it, even if the game doesn't end up being the way I imagined I know I'd love to see Capcom do this, I want a game about Wesker and Ada.

I wouldn’t say I don’t like it completely, because I understand why it works for the horror expierences and considers best right now for it,

But at the same time, I’m too used to third person in RE (to be fair, i dream for a fixed camera but I know this not happening at all, not even as a bonus feature unfortanetly) and I don’t specifically find bad a decision for first person a worst thing.

It’s just, idk, I’d probably would be fine with re7 being first person, If the game wasn’t just boring? It’s not really replayable, barely has any bonus features, has a bland protagonist, a story that made me care only for a second and the game falls in the last half apart. Like this horror everyone praises, that resemblence and such a callback for RE?? It’s the first half of the game, imo, once you enter the ships sections - it’s becomes less fun shooter. And that not to start on enemy variety. If I was being able to see iconic RE creatures in first person? that would so good, like even some of them, i’d maybe forgive this game (like you can do with mods in RE2remake) - but nope, Jack Baker being only somewhat fun enemy just makes the game meh for me.

And this all I just described is the reason why I’m so not on re8 being first person, like yeah, that’s how they planned it, because re7 brought a lot of new people, yeah, yeah it did that and of course I understand that and I’m glad about it.

But they also gave us Remakes with third person, with an iconic characters I actually care about, with a familliar story and the same game but much much enjoyable expierence overall.

Not to metion, capcom abonded all the story plotpoints from RE6 (because duuuh RE6 and people hate it, let’s erase it, duuh) and Rev2, that could’ve made it into RE8, but nope, we probably still get Ethan (WE GOT SO MANY CHARACTERS TO COMEBACK, A LOT OF GOOD CHARACTERS) and this dude looking not like Chris and Blue Umbrella and the rest of the stuff that is soft rebooting story a bit and I just not a fan of this general approach, not only first person tbh.

hello im back on my bullshit again after a day? a two day break?? idk i wish the weekend would never end all i want to do is play this damn game

so im in the castle with ashley and i hate the foutain chamber shit water room it was so frustrating on my first playthrough - i think that it will be fine this time because keebie and mouse aiming is so much nicer and also ive done it before i can do it again it'll be fine...

so i am trying to kill sometime and i didnt want to finish the castle part because i didn't want it to take too long so i fucked around on mercenaries, and then i started playing as ada A LOT. and now... now i've started separate ways and i'm actually so excited i've never played this before and i'm very excited. i love playing as ada. i love her hair it is so floofy and moves around so nice.

In general, are there any bosses or puzzles in RE games that you dread doing when you replay the game? Is there a 'fuck this section in particular'?

i have a mod that disables mr x in RE2make because i honestly can't stand having to deal with him. i know that some people enjoy the extra challenge that he provides, but for me, he makes the whole experience of the game shittier. i don't like pursuer enemies and i never have -- which is also why i don't like games like amnesia and haunting ground.

a lot of my RE4 OG runs die on the island. after you get past that initial regenerator section, the game just stops being fun. and there's never a point where it becomes fun again. it's just all bad up to the end of the game.

what are your favourite coop games? do you know some good action ones?

I don’t do much coop anymore but I used to play Left 4 Dead a lot. It’s a really cool zombie action-survival shooter that’s all about teamwork (whether you play as the survivors or infected).  If you get L4D2 you’ll be able to use the workshop and download custom maps and mods (even that one mod which replaces the frying pan with a fish and it wobbles whenever you hit the infected with it). Additionally the game has a crapload of modes like campaign, survival, versus, scavenger and many, many mutations so you’re never really bored! And as far as I’m concerned it’s currently on sale on steam so you should get it if you’re interested. Other coop games I liked are Payday (either 2 or The Heist), Portal 2 and Dead by Daylight although the latter is yet to be fully finished so it can be a little tacky at times (though it’s still super fun). And the last I can recommend are Resident Evils. You can do the whole story mode in coop ( + mercenaries and Lost in Nightmares/Desperate Escape if you have the DLC) in 5 and in Revelations 2 you can play the raid mode.However if you want PURE ACTION then you should get RE6. It has lots of QTEs and just really fast paced action full of butts, exploding cars and perfect hairstyles (jokes aside, it’s a really good game if you just want to sit back and have a good time without needing to focus on the story too much. And it’s super pretty!). Anyways, I’m not very up to date with coop/action games so I hope I helped atleast a little. (￣∇￣;)
