THE DIGITAL AGE BEGINS TO PERVADE THE '90s MUSIC POSTER DESIGN SCENE.
PIC INFO: Spotlight on a Photoshop concert poster design for SMASHING PUMPKINS with special guest, GARBAGE, performing live at the American West Arena in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, on December 7, 1996. Artwork by the late, great Frank Kozik.
"I didn’t really like the band. This was one of my first Photoshop posters ever, though. I just started doing computer stuff around '95, '96. I had a Mac system. I remember thinking, "Oh, let's use every filter." You know, as we all did once? At the time, I was really obsessed with Rudi Gernreich, who was a '60s photographer-fashion guy, like Peggy Moffit. I was collecting really weird late '60s, early '70s photography annuals. I was really getting into it, visually. And so, the only connection the poster has with the Smashing Pumpkins is the orange. I hated the band, didn’t really know much about them; so this was just me tripping on myself again."
-- FRANK KOZIK (1962-2023), to "NYLON" magazine, "THE STORY BEHIND SOME OF THE ’90S COOLEST BAND POSTERS," by Hayden Manders, July 21, 2016

Hey! Do you know where to find that MTV interview where Jimmy talks about drugs BEFORE the overdose? Tabitha Soren interviews Jimmy and Billy in Indiana, 06.27.1996 . Thank you so much. Love Jimmy and love this Tumblr.
Howdy! I'm having a tough time finding this interview, at present I do not think that it is available. Sorry that it's taken me a while to get to this! If it is out there and / or if anyone has it, please reply to this post. Thank you for your support of this blog and of Jimmy! <3 I desperately need to update it a bit.

Release: January 23, 1996
Lyrics:
Shakedown, 1979
Cool kids never have the time
On a live wire right up off the street
You and I should meet
June bug skipping like a stone
With the headlights pointed at the dawn
We were sure we'd never see an end to it all
And I don't even care to shake these zipper blues
And we don't know just where our bones will rest
To dust, I guess forgotten and absorbed to the Earth below
Double-cross the vacant and the bored
They're not sure just what we have in store
Morphine city slippin' dues down to see
That we don't even care as restless as we are
We feel the pull in the land of a thousand guilts
And poured cement
Lamented and assured
To the lights and towns below
Faster than the speed of sound
Faster than we thought we'd go
Beneath the sound of hope
Justine never knew the rules
Hung down with the freaks and the ghouls
No apologies ever need be made
I know you better than you fake it to see
That we don't even care to shake these zipper blues
And we don't know just where our bones will rest
To dust, I guess forgotten and absorbed to the Earth below
Songwriter: William Patrick Corgan
The street heats the urgency of now
As you see there's no one around

Smashing Pumpkins - Zero 1996
"Zero" is a song by American alternative rockband the Smashing Pumpkins, released as the third single from their third studio album and first double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995). Written by Billy Corgan, it was the first song recorded for the album and features six rhythm guitars with two line-in 12-string acoustic guitars. The cover artwork and music video were created by Ukrainian photographer and Corgan's then-girlfriend Yelena Yemchuk. "Zero" is widely considered one of the band's best songs, ranking in first place on both the Louder Sound and Kerrang! lists of their greatest songs.
Released on April 23, 1996, "Zero" reached number 9 on the US Modern Rock Tracks chart, number 15 on the US Mainstream Rock chart, number 1 on Canada's Alternative 30, number 1 in Spain, and number 3 in New Zealand. The song was also released as an EP in the US and charted at number 46 on the Billboard 200 instead of the Hot 100 due to the EP containing more than four songs, which was Billboard's limit for single releases. Similarly, in the UK, "Zero" reached number 19 on the Scottish Albums Chart as a budget album.
Propelled by the lead single "Bullet with Butterfly Wings", the album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 246,500 units. It earned the band seven Grammy Award nominations in 1997, including Album of the Year, as well as nine MTV Music Video Awards nominations.
"Zero" received a total of 63,3% yes votes!
