well, well, well … if it isn’t SHIVANI MISHRA, the LADY who’s best known around london for their affiliation to MISHRA. the THIRTY ONE year old has been around london for FIVE MONTHS, and seem to remind me of SMOLDERING EMBERS CUT WITH HONEY, ORNAMENTS DELICATELY PLACED THROUGHOUT RAVEN BRAIDS, A CHARMING SMILE WITH A SNAKE’S TONGUE BEHIND IT, IRON IN THE BACKBONE OF A LIE THAT DOES NOT WAVER. keep this between you, and i but i heard that THE FAMILY IS ILLEGITIMATE AND WAS SENT TO THE SEASON TO MARRY & SECURE FUNDS; can you believe that? i guess it makes sense seeing they are quite VIVACIOUS, ENDEARING & CONNIVING, HEADSTRONG. let’s just hope that little secret doesn’t fall into the hands of lady ashmore …

NAME. lady shivani mishra AGE. thirty-one GENDER. cis woman PRONOUNS. she + her SEXUALITY. pansexual AFFILIATION/LOYALTY. the mishra family TITLE. lady, second born TRAITS. + vivacious, endearing, ebullient, compassionate, nurturing, confident. - conniving, headstrong, secretive, decadent, opportunistic, noncommital CHARACTER INSPIRATION. penny lane (almost famous), lady sybil crawley (downtown abbey), keeley jones (ted lasso), rose dewitt butaker (titanic), anna karenina, cosette (les miserables), alice cullen (twilight)
pinterest. playlist.
SHORT BIOGRAPHY.
RUIN IS IN YOUR BLOOD. there is a farce that you must protect, the blurry lines of your family's origin and the whispers of the enigmatic shroud that covers you hidden behind fine fabrics of embroidered silk and ornate jewels and crystals. your father, a disowned son of a wealthy merchant descends from the noble bloodline of viscount sinha, who purportedly traveled to India in the late 17th century, married an Indian princess, and established a trading empire. falsified documents aged and authenticated, including marriage certificates, letters, and wills, written in both english and indian, supposedly passed down through generations.
who were you to ever doubt your lineage? you have the finest tutors, you giggle with your maids as though you are longtime friends, you travel with your father on business when the opportunity arises, get lost in the gardens at night. you establish yourself in court as one of the most beautiful women there but you have always remained untouchable; let them see and yearn what could be but never let them take a closer look. your pedestal was always placed far too high, your confidence is unbounded. the light is warm when you have her attention, leaves you wanting it more the moment she leaves. these were the philosophy you had been raised on until the funds began dwindling.
the three mishra children are sent to fix what their father ruined — the reputation of your family lies on the balance. if you cannot find some way to fund what has been lost, the mishra lineage will become more than just false — there will be much more dangerous prices to pay. are you willing to let your status define who you are as you have your whole life? could you live without it? who are you without the fawning courtiers and fine jewels? is it worth becoming nothing?
Tumblr media
WANTED CONNECTIONS.
past flings that would potentially look bad for her family and reputation because she's meeeessyyy // potential suitors she leads on because she's simply waiting for the best offer // people that suspect the mishra family's sudden rise to nobility is strange and not right // perhaps a mutually parasitic relationship i.e. using each other for more influence // the possibilities are endless... give me all

stories i om-nom-nom'd :: march 2024 (week 4)
Welcome to a new thing I wanna try and do to keep some form of writing exercise while I'm lowkey kinda struggling to bang stories out (pun kinda intended). Here I'm just gonna talk abt what I've been reading and watching and playing for the past week and rambling on what I think about them. Summaries for the story either in full or the story so far will be included, and that's the only form of "spoiler warning" I'm gonna give.
Everything below the cut.
movies
Dual (2022)
Tumblr media
Considering my interpretation of how the fight between Sarah and her Double went down, I'm in so much pain for her. She already escaped her grayscale dreary life and now she has to live in it again to keep up appearances? She deserves to live, dammit.
Full summary + rant/review here
books
Double Cross by Campbell Thompson
I'm only a chapter in and let me just say right now I love the introduction of Verity and how she really went by her own rules and swiped a watch from a handsy sleazy customer of Eighth Circle. And here we also have an introduction to Thomas Cross that's every bit intimidating as he found the pricey lil trinket she swiped and we end the chapter with him bringing her into his office. 🫢 Now see this is how I know there's smth wrong w me because that last scene got the butterflies going with a vengeance fully knowing that Thomas Cross looks like this:
Tumblr media
games
Undercover: Blood Bonds
Undercover: Blood Bonds is a time-management game from GameHouse under their Original Stories line, and requires either a GHOS subscription (under $100/year for full access to all 60+ games) to play the full game, or full payment of the single game (about $10/game), or each level will be locked behind an unskippable ad that's at most 60secs long. I'm playing with the GHOS subscription.
The story I've unlocked so far is that we follow the journey of Vera, a journalist that's gone undercover as bar staff in a nightclub to find out what's happened to her sister Lilly. In a flashback, we get to see that what kicked off the events of the game was that Vera went home to her shared apartment with her sister, only to be greeted with everything turned upside down in an obvious struggle, and a pool of blood on the floor.
Delicious: True Love
Delicious: True Love is another story in the GHOS collection, and tells the story of Emily Napoli, going on adventures and crossing continents to reunite with her long lost love Jean-Paul. Right now she's on a train to Paris with her luggage having made it there before her so she's earning her keep there by helping out in the restaurant.
I've been playing the spin-off "alternate timeline" version of the story called "Delicious World" for a few years on and off, and I've enjoyed the hijinks she's gotten up to so far there with all the twists and turns and antics she's gotten up to with her eventual hubby Patrick. And considering I've got the time due to being in the job hunting phase, I figured 'why not?' and I'd play through the original story.
Delicious World
Speaking of the alternate timeline story, I'm also playing through this game this week, as I have been for the last few weeks. I'm currently in Season 2 Episode 3 where Emily's rekindled her romance with Jean-Paul and ngl they're being quite adorable with their constant kissies and sneaking off to his trailer. We also have a cute lil reveal that her bestie Frank's got a bit of a fling going on with her Rising Chef competitor Monet.
Top that off with Emily having some insecurities popping up because she saw JP's phone lighting up with the name of another celebrity chef Shivani Khurana, her competitor (and current rival) Sarah's older sister. And what's got her stomach in knots is that some time ago, there was a rumor that Shivani and JP had a thing for each other. 🫢☹️
Hello Kitty Island Adventure
I've played through all the quests available under "The Island Mystery" and so far all I got is that the Little TwinStars have this master plan going on that they don't wanna share with the class, and they're acutely aware of exactly how much more we have to do so that we can fully heal the Island Spirit that I have jokingly nicknamed Loki because she's stuck in the heart of a tree.
Ohh and there was a quip from Badtz-Maru about us all being locked in a time loop, so if Sanrio and Sunblink are trying to beat the "Loki crossover" allegations (that are literally just coming from me in the name of jokes and vibes), they're not doing the best job at it.
Disney Dreamlight Valley
Aaaaah, Dreamlight Valley…the game that inspired a whole new story universe (coming to you soon on the writing/main blog), I've also played through all the story quests for this one and I'm chomping at the bit waiting for the new releases for Spring and Summer.
There's definitely something to look out for with Skull Rock, considering that the final quest of Act 1 after facing off and reconciling with The Forgotten centers around the entrance way into said rock. And the friendship quests for The Forgotten mention it twice. And with the way they built it up, I'm hoping that it's gonna be more than just another home for another character. Like idk…maybe a portal? To Neverland? Or Pixie Hollow? Maybe if we get Hook he'll look and sound a bit more like…him?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nothing left to do but pspspspspspsps, I guess
youtube channels that got my watch hours
Johnniibeanasmr
I don't vibe with a lot of male ASMR channels mostly bc they all have an overly gimicky feel to them, but I vibe w this one a lot. The videos have a cozy atmosphere to them and he's got a soft relaxing whisper that can lull me to sleep. The one that's made it to my "sleepies" playlist is this spider web one:
TheoryVerse
MatPat's theory channels have been with their new hosts for a few weeks now, and personally I think they're doing a great job with their own domains so far. Even though some snarky dude that'll hiss when their skin touches the sunlight and their 3 chest hairs is consistently in my comment replies tryna tell me otherwise (bitch touch grass, honestly).
Anyways, I've still got a good handful of new theories to binge but I'll give some bits that I picked up from the batch that I watched the week before.
Amy Marie validated that I'm already using a pretty good razor for my shaving shenanigans, but there's a potentially better one that I'll probs look into one of these days. She also showed that ultimately what makes the biggest difference is prep and aftercare of the skin, so that's gonna be something I gotta add to the routine.
youtube
Santi had me adding "Wendy's hot chicken sandwich" to my list of foods to try. Probs gonna do that to kick off my unplanned vacation of unemployment.
youtube
Lee pretty much validated my frustration over Oogway and his insistence of going "I'm not gonna tell you the secret la dee da" because apparently the secret to becoming the greatest warrior of all was inside you all along. And the blind following of Shifu and the ongoing cycle of shoddy mentorship goes on and on 🤦🏻‍♀️
youtube
As for Game Theory and its new host Tom, I've actually been able to watch 2 of his theories, and basically he validated my instinctual doubts on the 'helpful' Ollie, as well as walked me through the KinitoPet ARG. Don't trust those animated clipart assistants, kids. Especially this one because I'm not kidding, this game fucking doxxes you.
youtube
youtube
And just an extra bit of chortles, if you know you know…
lore keeker 🤣
stories to om-nom-nom next
Quiet on Set Ep5: Breaking the Silence
All cards on the table, I'm dreading this more than looking forward to it because watching the first four episodes broke me, and I'm still hurting for the people whose childhoods and innocence were taken from them in the name of money and power. But the creation of the first few episodes empowered another former Nickelodeon talent to come forward, and we're about to hear a whole new account of the physical, psychological, mental, and emotional horrors that went on in those studios.
Double Cross by Campbell Thompson
Diving back into this story and hopefully get through halfway (or maybe even the whole book).
Tumblr media
That's all I got for this week. Let's see what this next week brings I guess 👀🫡

COVID-19, Anosmia, and the Importance of Smell
Hannah Gould and Gwyn McClelland, editors of Aromas of Asia, discuss anosmia as it relates to the COVID-19 pandemic, the tricky nature of olfaction, and where the phenomenon of smell as transnational exchange began.
Tumblr media
Of the many serious, and still emerging, impacts of infection with COVID-19, anosmia, or a loss of the sense of smell, is less often discussed. Yet the condition is said to affect almost half of all diagnosed patients, and although most people regain olfaction within a month, for some, anosmia lingers, transforming how they eat, drink, and interact with the world. People may also experience a condition of paranosmia, or phantom, and often unpleasant, smells.
In the introduction to our new interdisciplinary edited collection, Aromas of Asia: Exchanges, Histories, Threats, we discuss how this phenomenon speaks to the tricky nature of olfaction: its profound impact in shaping one’s everyday experience of the world and the popular dismissal of its significance. For, perhaps it is only in losing a sense that we are troubled and thus realise its significance. Anosmia is a condition that demonstrates how smell (or its lack) moves between bodies and traverses scales, as an intimate, personal experience of the world created by the transnational movement of pathogens within a global pandemic.
Smell is thus a particularly generative phenomenon to draw upon when theorizing the dynamics of transnational exchange. And this particular transnational exchange of the pandemic, of course, began in Asia.
Western cultural hierarchies and intellectual traditions have tended to elevate the importance of vision, or hearing, while marginalizing senses including smell, taste, or touch. With a few notable exceptions, contemporary scholarship still remains strongly wedded to English-language or Western scholarly concerns and contexts.
Our new collection of essays relocates the discussion of olfaction to the Asian region, considering how the mobility of olfaction makes social worlds, identifies prejudices or threats, and implements power games of scent and odor. Wherever smell is interpreted as threat, and has potential to be used to violently enforce differences in ethnicity, gender, caste, and class, questions of smell can have serious implications.
We were concerned in this work to critique sensory colonialist tropes that align Asia and its peoples with more “debased” senses, thus resisting a dichotomy of “West-vision-logic” and “Asia-smell-emotion.” Where associated with smell, Asian peoples and cultures have been historically cast in two extremes: on the one hand heavily perfumed or “stinky,” and on the other overly sanitized, odorless or antiseptic. While examining and critiquing these sensory stereotypes, our collection engages with Asia as a heterogeneous and changing complex of scentscapes that have blended together and come apart throughout history. The boundaries of this region are not presumed to exist before olfaction but rather emerge through histories of sensory exchange.
Our contributors consider periods from antiquity to the present and examine various transnational contexts across East, Southeast, and South Asian regions. We do not claim the spread as representative or exhaustive, but the chapters provide a robust cross section of the “scentscapes” that traverse the region. Thus, incisive essays and careful research was essential to achieve the methodological richness and conversation between disciplines evidenced in this book. Besides the editors, the authors, in order of their contributions, are Lorenzo Marunucci, Peter Romaskiewicz, Qian Jia, Gaik Cheng Khoo, Jean Duruz, Gwyn McClelland, Shivani Kapoor, Aubrey Tang, Saki Tanada, Adam Liebman, and Ruth E. Toulson. The disciplines brought together in this volume include anthropology, history, film studies, fine arts, food studies, literature, philosophy, political studies, and religious studies.
Strong-smelling miasmas, or drifting clouds of noxious air, have been central to human understandings of disease transmission. Well after the emergence of germ theory, fear of smells in the form of miasma continues to this day. Some commentators used olfactory evidence in positioning Chinese “wet markets” as the site of origin for COVID-19 virus. For example, in one paper in The COVID-19 Reader (2021), the writer suggests that “a lack of hygiene [at wet markets] was obvious from the smells and scattered wastes.” From this olfactory experience, the authors describe their lack of surprise that a pandemic might emerge from this place. We compare this in our introduction to another study of 2020 that shows how freshness is constructed and valued in sensory experiences of markets within China. Perceiving smells or odors as threats can reinforce, especially during the pandemic, the alterity of Asia as the other to the West. COVID-19 illustrated how olfaction is an intimately embodied, individual experience, but also a social phenomenon traveling between bodies and communities—and around the globe. In our collection, Aromas of Asia, we focus on the interconnections of sensory worlds, but we do so by offering a transnational and located approach to scentscapes in Asia, even as they are founded on mobility and exchange.

oc introduction // @profsong
nirnasha siraj is a vampire. a vetala, to be exact. which means she can see into the future. she knows who will die, when and how and is drawn to death, in fact.
nirnasha wasn't always a vampire though. she used to be human. a hunter. she used to be the family's golden girl. being in the wrong place, at the wrong time, however, cost nirnasha her very humanity. aman mrithun, an old vampire who collects people like trinkets, took her in. at first as a living, breathing, blood bag. then he turned her.
he let her family know, too. but they never lifted a finger to get her back.
and nirnasha knew right there and then that even if she made it out of aman's den, she could never - and would never - go home again.
nirnasha befriended ashika kalabhiti who taught her bhūtabhāṣ, a language spoken only by the undead, the dead and the dying and shivani dahak who taught her that vetalas can survive on blood, food, drinks and energy (physical, mental, spiritual).
the only thing that kept her going was the knowledge that she was going to be rescued. that they all were going to be rescued.
and they were. but not in the way nirnasha expected.
it took a lot of planning and a lot of sleepless nights - two years of feeding and being fed on - but in the end, nirnasha, ashika and shivani got most of the vampires out. but not everyone, and that is - to this day - nirnasha's greatest regret.
aman's den burned, with him inside of it.
nowadays, nirnasha is adrift and can be found over at @deathlesslight though that blog is inactive right now.

Signs A Boy Friend or Girl Friend Is Never Going to Marry You
You have been savoring those romantic coffee dates, indulging in long drives, and even sneaking in casual leaves from work just to create special moments with your beloved boyfriend or girlfriend, especially on their birthday. However, when the topic of marriage crosses your mind, there’s a distinct sense that your significant other isn’t quite ready for such a significant commitment or may not be inclined to take that step with you.
Tumblr media
Are you curious to find out these tell-tale signs that indicate your significant other might not be ready for the monumental commitment of marriage?
Eminent relationship expert and marriage counselor in Delhi, Shivani Misri Sadhoo shares a few signs in this article.
Avoiding Future Plans
If your partner constantly sidesteps discussions about the future, especially on topics like settling down or long-term plans, it could indicate a lack of commitment. A genuine desire for a lifelong connection involves open conversations. If your enthusiasm for living together or dream wedding plans is met with lukewarm responses and swift subject changes, it may signal a deeper reluctance to envision a shared future.
Haven’t Met their Family
Is your partner keeping their family a mystery? A red flag in serious relationships is avoiding family introductions. A future spouse willingly integrates into each other’s families. If your significant other hesitates or delays this step, it signals uncertainty about a lifelong commitment. Avoiding family meetings suggests a lack of pride in your connection. Even if an introduction happens, reluctance may hint at future commitment issues.
Lack of Emotional Connection
In a thriving relationship, trust, loyalty, understanding, love, care, and…

Understanding: The Misappropriation of Funds under IPC
Tumblr media
This article on 'Misappropriation of Funds under IPC' was written by Shivani Chaudhary, an intern at Legal Upanishad.
INTRODUCTION
Misappropriation occurs when someone who has been trusted with another person's money, property, or assets misuses them for their personal gain. Misappropriation is the wrongful utilization of another's property for one's own benefit without the owner's consent. Any time an individual who does not own the company's assets uses them for personal gain, this is considered theft. This article attempts to analyse the concept and meaning of the term “misappropriation of funds”. It aims to study and highlight the provisions governing the misappropriation of funds under Indian Laws.
MEANING
Misappropriation is the criminally illegal use of another person's property or funds for one's own use or other unauthorized purposes. This is especially true when the offender is in a position of trust, such as a public official, trustee, executor, or administrator of an estate. Misappropriation may be a felony, a crime punishable by prison time, depending on the jurisdiction in question and the value of the property at issue.
TYPES OF MISAPPROPRIATION
1. MISAPPROPRIATION OF FUNDS The term "misappropriation of funds" is used to describe the unauthorized use of another person's money. Even though the offender had legal access to the funds, it is still theft if they utilize the money for something other than what they intended. Theft crimes like embezzlement and misappropriation of funds share similarities. Both occur when someone in a position of trust steals money or property from someone else. A defendant may face charges of embezzlement and theft of funds in the same case. For instance, a CEO may misuse corporate finances by paying their own credit card bills using money that was intended for business purposes. The CEO may face charges of embezzlement or theft of funds. The offender would be prosecuted for misappropriation rather than embezzlement if the stolen funds were used for unauthorized reasons other than personal gain. 2. TRADE SECRET MISAPPROPRIATION Misappropriation of a trade secret occurs when one party gains the secret through unethical means (such as theft, bribery, or fraud) and then uses or discloses that secret to another party. For example, if an employee takes company secrets home with them, that is a breach of confidentiality and could lead to allegations of theft. If a company believes that its trade secrets for a good or service that is involved in interstate or foreign commerce have been misappropriated, it can bring a civil claim in state court or a federal lawsuit in federal court. 3. MISAPPROPRIATION OF ASSETS The misuse of other assets is also possible when someone is given control over them. In cases of misappropriation of assets, inventory and company equipment frequently play central roles.

Misappropriation of Funds under IPC: All You Need to Know
PENALTIES FOR MISAPPROPRIATION
The state level is frequently the level of jurisdiction for misappropriation charges. The federal court may hear a misappropriation case under the following conditions, however: - Misappropriation of federal funds, the commission of a crime by electronic means, or - The criminal activity involved the crossing of state lines. The following elements must be proven by the prosecution whether the misappropriation case is heard in state or federal court: - The plaintiff had possession and control over the property or funds since the owner had given it to the defendant, but the defendant did not actually own the property or funds. - The defendant acted willfully and dishonestly in stealing the money or property. - The defendant spent the money or took the property for themselves. There's no requirement that the defendant actually spends the money for this requirement to be met in court. The defendant need only have diverted the money to their own account or refused to return it to its rightful owner when asked to do so. - It depends on the state whether or not misappropriation is considered a misdemeanour or felony. Each case of misappropriation of cash or property is unique, and the value of the stolen goods and the nature of the theft may have a role in determining the gravity of the crime and the associated punishments. Government employees or officials found guilty of embezzling a big sum of taxpayer money, for instance, could face harsher penalties than the average individual. Among the consequences of stealing money are the following: - Misappropriation is punishable by a minimum of one year in jail and potentially ten or more years if it is considered a felony. - Maximum fines of $1,000 for a misdemeanor and $10,000 or more for a felony. - Payment of damages to the victim. - There may be a probationary period of up to five years.
DEFENCE FOR MISAPPROPRIATION
If you've been accused of theft, you might be frightened about the legal procedure and the potential penalties. Even though you're facing some rather serious charges (especially if they're federal), you still have some options open to you. The defence attorney you hire will investigate the specifics of your case to formulate a plan of action. Some frequent counterclaims to accusations of misappropriation are outlined below. Negligent Intent: You did not set out to steal or otherwise wrongfully acquire the funds or property. Permission- The owner of the funds or property gives you the approval to keep or use them for your own reasons. Ownership- You had a reasonable and good faith belief that you were the legitimate owner of the funds or property. You were falsely accused or are the victim of mistaken identity; you did not commit the crime. Entrapment- You were pressured by law enforcement into misappropriating the funds. You committed the theft under duress if you were threatened with physical harm, restrained, or otherwise coerced into making the unauthorized monetary transfer. Evidence against you is inadmissible because it was gathered through an illegal search or because of some other legal technicality. The prosecution has failed to provide sufficient evidence to prove that you stole the money or property.
Which of the Following Constitutes Embezzlement or Misappropriation of Funds?
Theft by deception, including embezzlement and other forms of misappropriation of funds, can take numerous shapes and sizes, from being a long-term, methodical scheme to a single, isolated incident. A partner, LLC member, official, or employee has possibly stolen from or otherwise misappropriated the business. Having a manager or cashier remove cash from a drawer is one example. A bookkeeper, accountant, executive, or other employees could go to great lengths to defraud their employer by creating fake companies and issuing fraudulent invoices. People who work for you or who hold positions of authority inside your company are a prime target for embezzlement and other forms of financial misappropriation. They can switch the payee on cheques, invoices, and other papers to get money sent to their own bank accounts.

The introduction of Shivani Sen and her passion for funding million dollar scientific research was an interesting plot twist on Roswell, New Mexico for the science minded Liz Ortecho who hopes to study alien compounds without discovery. Shivani and Liz team up early for the ultimate research duo, but it’s been no surprise that all is not as it seems for Shivani who has a personal stake in the research she’s funding. We got to chat with actress Rehka Sharma on what it’s been like playing Shivani and the huge cliffhanger for Shivani and Liz. Check it out below!
Nerds and Beyond: Tell me a bit about your introduction to the show and what drew you to Shivani as a character?
Sharma: I didn’t know about the show at all, and when the audition came my way something about this character just jumped out of the page at me. It was very fun, refreshing, exciting. The writing was really cheeky, and I imagine as a fan of the show you know it can be really fun, witty writing, and the character just seemed so interesting. I didn’t even quite understand what the role was because everything is so secret, especially in the sci-fi world. They don’t quite tell you the real truth of what’s going on, but there was enough there that I thought this was a deep, complicated but smart, fun, good-hearted person, was my feeling.
Nerds and Beyond: This latest episode is incredible. You played Shivani’s grief and pain so brilliantly. How did you dig into that emotion for that scene?
Sharma: First of all — thank you that means a lot, I’m glad you were moved. How did I dig in? It’s really just imagining myself going there. I can’t imagine the pain of what that would be like to be losing a child and be estranged from the love of your life because of it. Her whole world has been blown apart and then to be so close to a possibility for a cure and to be with somebody who you get, who gets you, and for them to not understand and not want to go on this journey with you. I think it just absolutely shattered her heart. I think she’s, as anyone in that position would be, blinded by her need. It’s just so immense.
It also helped as an actor to work with someone as fabulous as Jeanine [Mason], and the crew makes a good atmosphere where you feel like everyone is so nice and that makes all the difference, too.
Nerds and Beyond: Yes, how was it to work opposite Jeanine on that scene and others throughout filming?
Sharma: She’s fantastic. It was really fun to work with her. And also as two women of color to lift each other up by the fact that we’re two women out here doing it just was a great experience for me.
Nerds and Beyond: Did you know Shivani’s true motives at the start of the season or was it kept secret until you received this week’s script?
Sharma: No, I did have sort of a rough idea. I didn’t know quite at the beginning because I was very confused and lost if I’m honest. Then the wonderful showrunner Chris Hollier got on the phone with me after I’d done a couple episodes and was like, ‘Ok, let me give you the lay of the land.’ I was like, ‘Ok, great!’ So then I had the general trajectory of what we were going to do and watched the details of that unfold as I read each script.
Nerds and Beyond: Now she’s been brought into the circle of knowing about the aliens early in the episode. Why do you think she kept her daughter a secret from Liz instead of telling her the full details right then and there?
Sharma: I honestly think it’s been a secret for so long that most people don’t understand. She already lost the love of her life in the midst of all this so I think she’s just accustomed to being careful about the topic.
Nerds and Beyond: That makes sense. I also appreciated the show’s statement in this episode about Shivani having all the money in the world and still the one thing she wants she can’t have. That was really powerful.
Sharma: Yeah, thank you for saying that. I do feel that way, too. It’s like all the striving we do as a society for money and all the messaging and value and worth that we place on having money is just so out of wack. It’s not what’s important in life at all, it doesn’t get you what you think it’s going to get you.
Nerds and Beyond: As much as you can tell us, what can we expect for the rest of Shivani’s journey on the show? I know much of that depends on the effects of the mist she inhaled in this week’s episode.
Sharma: The gas is a big player in the journey. We know that she’s desperate, we have a clear picture of why she’s so desperate now. Now that drugs are in the mix things get a lot messier, a lot more dangerous. I think there is a certain blindness that comes with grief and wanting to save somebody, it’s a difficult spot that she’s in. Things are really building up in the season in all aspects of the storytelling not just this storyline. I know there’s so many storylines going on in this show it’s pretty exciting, but it’s just going to get more and more exciting.
Nerds and Beyond: Which is hard to imagine now!
Sharma: Yeah, but it’s gets pretty wild!
Nerds and Beyond: What’s been your favorite scene to film this season? Was it that emotional moment with Liz or something lighter from earlier on?
Sharma: I think definitely the ones we shot in this episode were very exciting. I said earlier today, the heightened emotions and there was so much to juggle in those scenes even just physically with the walking and the mist. It was one of those days where you just go home and sleep really hard after a very satisfying day of work. Then there were also, yeah, a lot of fun scenes early on even when we first met on the rooftop. Checking each other out and there’s been some really emotional scenes too where Liz is crying to Shivani and opening up. It’s funny the more I think about it the more I think there were so many fun scenes. There’s a lot of variety on this show and in these characters’ journeys that’s doesn’t always happen on tv shows, that’s one the things I’ve really enjoyed about working on Roswell is just the variety of experience that the characters go through and different sides you get to see of people. I really like that about the writing, they’re really well-rounded characters.
Nerds and Beyond: We know the show is ending sadly, so if you could give any message to the fans who have loved this show what would you want to tell them?
Sharma: First of all, I’d say thank you for watching and I hoped you loved it. It’s been really special and I think there’s some really valuable stories that we can all carry with us. I know the show’s over but it doesn’t have to be over in our hearts. I think there’s a lot of beautiful lessons that this story gives the world and I hope we all hang on to them.
Nerds and Beyond: If you could have alien powers, what would you pick?
Sharma: I have thought of this before and I don’t know what my answer was before! Thinking now, what kind of alien powers would I pick? Maybe seeing the future so that I could make better choices in the now. Yeah, maybe it’s the boring answer but also flying would just be very fun!
Nerds and Beyond: Finally, we love to end on a lighter note. We celebrate all things nerdy here at Nerds and Beyond, so what’s something you nerd out to?
Sharma: Food, probably. I get excited about trying a lot of different donuts and trying to find the best donuts in town. Right now I’m in Montreal so I’ve been doing my analysis of the bagels. Some bagels are better for toasting and just butter only where other bagels are better for like bagel sandwiches. What else, I’m a bit of a gear nerd a little bit. I don’t know a lot about it, but I’m definitely a person who before I buy something somewhat utilitarian whether it’s an A/C unit or a bag for my laptop or something I’ll look up the reviews on Wirecutter and try to find the best one. I highly recommend it, Wirecutter is your friend!
A big thank you to Rehka for talking with us about her journey on the show and we can’t wait to see what next week holds for Shivani, Liz, and the pod squad
