The E5 is so cool, I wish trains were real

I might as well actually use this blog for something, huh? Since I have the URL now. For a first post here I’m just going to post pictures of all of the E5 Shinkansen merch I own, because why not? Unfortunately I don’t own a lightbox, I apologize for the quality here.

The first image I posted is a nanoblock-type kit, each car of the train was actually sold separately, although the front/rear and passenger cars ate two separate versions. I also have a Doctor Yellow version in storage somewhere, but I think it’s missing a couple pieces. I should check

Next up is a Plarail! I love Plarail. When I was a kid I had a whole track setup as a gift from a family friend who took business trips to Japan, I honestly blame that for me being a terminal weeb. For those who don’t know, Plarail is a type of plastic scale model train produced by TakaraTomy that runs on plastic tracks and requires no real assembly. It’s technically targeted at a younger age demographic, but I love it regardless. Unfortunately this E5 doesn’t have a motor, but it’s got a good reason for that at least…

You thought it was a normal train, but it was me, Shinkalion! A line of transforming robot toys, TakaraTomy combined Plarail with those other transforming robot toys they also make that you’re probably thinking of to create Shinkalion. I actually own almost every release in the Shinkalion Z toyline, which this specific figure comes from. I probably should watch the tie-in anime, but I also have to finish like, Roshidere and Tensura first, and who has time. I did watch the movie with a friend a while back though, I’m not convinced it was real. Look it up if you want to take psychic damage. I’ve heard the latest season might be more my thing though! I do want to check it out.

But of course, what is the E5 if not the H5’s better looking cousin? I might as well show off its counterpart from Hokkaido as well. To be honest, I really regret not applying the sticker detailing to this version. It really loses something, especially with the less eye-catching purple compared to the pink. Also, if you know anything about Shinkalion, it’s probably that the pilot of the H5 mech, at least in the first season, is Hatsune Miku. I actually do have the Shinkalion Miku Nendoroid, I just can’t be assed getting her out of storage right now.

And that’s the post! Hopefully at least someone will enjoy reading it. I might do more in-depth reviews of the other Shinkalion figures I own, or even other figures in general, although probably not on this blog.

This Shinkalion x Evangelion crossover is the only show where we see Hikari's siblings, and the whole thing is super adorable and positive? If I were a train kid this show would probably feel very validating. Like, you get to have your hobby respected by the Eva kids, who tell you you should be able to talk about what you like.

(If you're not a train kid, it also has mecha battles. No, the whole show really does have mecha battles between the trains.)

It's certainly not deep or anything, about as deep as Pokemon, but it's comforting in the same way that Pokemon is. I realised partway through that it's not just random shilling for Eva, there's a good reason to have them in the show: they're all named after Shinkansen trains. So it's an oddly natural crossover.

Crossovers are weird, right?

So, back in 2014, there was a small crossover between Transformers and Neon Genesis Evangelion that was headlined by an Optimus Prime decked out in the colors of the Evangelion Unit-01. This release was supplemented by a four-part prose story where Starscream apparently merges with the Angel Sachiel and Prime, realizing that the EVA has a life-force within it (assumed to be Shinji Ikari), scans the EVA to grow in size to use its power to defeat "Angel"-scream, and NERV thanks him by giving him a trailer/battle station of their own design.

A few years later, in 2018, the anime Transforming Bullet Train Robot Shinkalion had protagonist Hayato Hayasugi travel to a parallel world where NERV collaborated with the Shinkansen Institute to create their own Shinkalion units in place of EVAs, leading to an alternate version of Shinji showing up piloting the Shinkalion 500 TYPE EVA. Shinji would then make a few appearances in the series afterwards, even appearing in the feature film of the anime that also feature an 11-year old pilot named Hatsune Miku and a snow monster assuming the form of f**king Godzilla.

...who, by the way, once existed in the same universe as the Transformers due to both properties being licensed by Marvel Comics back in the day. Oh, and let's not forget to mention the NERV-Made Anti-G Weapon, a version of MechaGodzilla designed by Metal Gear artist Yoji Shinikawa as part of an official collaborative project between NGE and Godzilla. And that's not even counting the 4D film attraction that debuted the Shin Godzilla version of King Ghidorah.

So if Earthspark Season 2 isn't announced by a certain timeframe, when will it be time to start wondering if Paramount wrote it off for taxes? The company is apparently leaning out in preparation for a sale, and all proverbial hands are on deck. The toys are apparently clogging discount retailers much like Cyberverse did before, and while it's connecting with a small subsection of fandom, kids and their parents could not care less.

While odds are Hasbro couldn't have done with Takara did with Shinkalion and have random cameos from characters their parents would have liked, Earthspark's failure may be even more dramatic than originally believed.

I don't see that flying with Hasbro.

i'm watching shinkalion the animation and i'm 16 eps in. review:

hayato hayasugi is a better protagonist than ash ketchum

the villains are actually cool and not a laughing stock like jessie and james from team rocket

shinkalion e6 komachi = kitchen gun meme

tsuranuki daimonyama is mega funny

shashot is the best robot, i once said "brock turned into a robot" because of their japanese vas being the same

all the drivers are likeable

HATSUNE MIKU?!?!?!??!?! (my reaction to episode 15:)

the battles and transformations are great

overall, shinkalion better than ashime, but on par with horizons.

So I wasn’t expecting this till later in the week, but SANTA-CHAN WAS ABLE TO SPEED THE DELIVERY OF MY NEWEST PLUSHIE UP TO ARRIVE AS A CHRISTMAS PRESENT!!!

I got this adorable plush of Tatsumi from Shinkalion because A. I’ve wanted one for a while and B. TATSUMI IS A PURE AND PRECIOUS CINNAMON ROLL!!!!!!! TYTYTYTYTY SO MUCH SANTA FOR MAKING MY HOLIDAY EVEN BRIGHTER THAN IT ALREADY WAS!!!

The drama in Shinkalion rn is so fucked up. Idc what Kind Elder Sister Memories say, if my friends immediately blamed me for being unable to attack my most important person that I'd desperately been looking for, not knowing if they were dead or alive, for 2 whole years, I would blow everything up. What the hell
