    I calculated every years of birth of every characters 

(yes i have no life, i don’t even if someone needed  to know every date of birth of every characters, help me)

SARA CHIDOUIN: Since Sara is 17 years and the game is set in 2017, Sara is born in the sacred year of 2000′s

JOE TAZUNA: since he has the same age as sara then he is born in the 2000′s. Actually i’m gonna do something simple and put every that are in high school.

Sara,Joe,Ranmaru,Anzu,kugie are all born in 2000

( wait actually kugie is younger than sara so  16 so kugie would be born in 2001)

KEIJI SHINOGI: So with keiji it’s kinda difficult because he is canonically in his “late twenties” which mean he between 25 to 29. So i calculated that  keiji is born the earlier in 1992 or the latest in 1988. So yeah this man is canonically a dilf.

KANNA KIZUCHI: Kanna is 14, so kanna must be born in 2003. Hinako since she has the same age, was also born in 2003

QTARO BURGERBERG: Okay so q-taro is “in his mid twenties” so 25, so q-taro is born in 1992.

SHIN TSUKIMI:  Just like keiji, shin doesn’t have a real age, Shin is  in his early twenties, the wiki states between  21 or 22, so shin is either born in 1996 or 1995

REKO YABUSAME: As the younger sister, reko is 23 so she must be born in 1994

NAO EGOKORO: My poor girl is 19 years old so she was probably born in 1998

KAI SATOU: Actually kai is the same age as keiji, so he’s most likely born just like piss hair boy inbetwen 1992 and 1988. 

GIN IBUSHI : The goodest, the most amazing boy on earth is really just 12 so he was born in 2005

KAZUMI MISHIMA: Even though it’s difficult to admit it, mishima is thirty, big shocker to anyone who didn’t know but that man is just thirty. So in all the participants he is the oldest. Mishima was born in 1987.

ALICE YABUSAME: the older brother of the yabusame siblings is supposed to like keiji and kai in his late 20′s. So just like them he either was born inbetwen 1992 to 1988.

NAOMICHI KURUMADA: The best male doll is actually in his mid 20′s so 25 years old, so he was born 1992.

MAI TSURUGI: The best female dolls is in her early twenties so inbetwen 20 to 24. so she could be born earliest 1997 and latest in 1993.

SHUNSUKE HAYASAKA: Was born in either earlist in 1992 to 1988......... what do you want to say it’s hayasaka man.

Then there is the floormasters: 

Gashu is 50, safalin is in her late 20′s, miley is 30, and welll midori is ......... undetermined. No seriously he has no age which is pretty funny. 

Gashu was born in  1967, safalin is in the keiji/kai/alice category, i’m not gonna rewrite it just go up you will see the date, miley was born in 1987, and rio is 3 so like 2014. And i suppose midori is around shin age....... I fuckin hope so.

So if i made a chronology of birth it would be like that

oh i am very curious which yttd routes did you play first :O? (mine was alice/shin <- this was literally because i was hyperfixated on alice + i was playing it with my friend who was hyperfixated on shin.)

oho... i believe my first route was true logic! (reko + shin) -- i'd pushed the fake reko, because my view on the whole 'doll v. human' thing is. well. humans will always be preferable if they're still alive, though even after death it's a shaky trail to follow. of course, while alive they can still be manipulated & gaslit into certain things, but the AIs can be changed on a very fundamental level with the intention of deceiving someone they care for (whether they mean to or not; mishima, for example, whose values weren't necessarily changed, but just shifted to see those he would've cared for as enemies), and the idea of them being so easily reset - to me - makes it more difficult to view anything you do with them as permanent. which, while that may be something worthwhile for some (sara w ytts, hiyori w shin ai...), i find scarcity to be something very important & i just hate the idea of desecrating who someone was after death. what you see as the ai will often have a very tangible effect on how you perceive the person post-mortem as well, which isn't fair to you or them, regardless of how genuine they believe they're being.

or, well. that's the gist of my thoughts on it x']

in any case! i do wish i could've kept alice alive, but this was a 'no resets' run for me & i still wouldn't have changed my answer here... sorry reko ai.

as for shin, i chose him primarily because my sister (kid) really enjoys his character & i was very intrigued in seeing where he'd go once pushed further than this. i felt terrible killing kanna for this, & realized during her death (i. started crying also <3) that if i were in this situation that i'd never be able to work w someone who enabled kanna's self-sacrificial nature. which shin evidently echoed, rendering any logic behind the choice null, ironically because i failed to take into account the emotional attachment between them all.

& of course the influence this has on ch3-1... where sara had very obviously sacrificed dolls for her allies before, it just makes it tasty...

however! as for my current routes, i think i favor true emotion (alice + kanna) -- i really wanted to know more abt alice before he died & i was surprised it was even an option so early on. i also enjoyed seeing alice getting after gashu outright + i think he deserved to have that personal chance in getting after hiyori again... even if the realization he's become a 'real murderer' (he had still pushed hiyori w intent to kill, you know...) is held against him here.

and, in terms of character development, upon reflection: i really do think i'm more interested in seeing kanna truly overcome that desire to push herself aside for others' benefit... it'd be so much more fulfilling to me, with what i'm searching out, in a game like this where pushing forward really is the only choice you can make...!!

as for both, they don't get the focus i wish they could've in ch3-1, but i nonetheless find it a more interesting route going forward, even if i still don't agree w the choice made to keep alice alive x'] the implications for sara's character in either route are really fun to consider :D

Randomly remembered yttd and the fact that I loved the human- doll pairs and their funny little dynamics .

Obv Sara&Ranmaru have an entire messed up one sided codependent relationship going on , very fascinating character writing there . Qtaro&Mai is a sleeper pair when starting that part of the game but I love them? The bond that forms ?? Q-taro being the first to bridge the gap between the humans and the dolls by choosing to spare and forgive her ??? The way she grieves him afterwards ???? UGH . And then you have the funny ones like Gin making Hayasaka his personal carrier because he knows that man cannot say no , Kuramada and Kanna are objectively funny because a big buff man gets told off by a tiny middle schooler but Kuramada and Shin are also amusing because again you pair the boxer with the weakest person in the entire cast . Yeah they are both in their 20s and what if they both had blue(ish) hair and pronouns . The Yabusame siblings and Anzu kinda get safted because of Anzus lack of plot relevance but also because the Yabusames are inherently fucked in logic but it is still rather fitting ironically ? (Just don't think of it from the pov of Alice , a brother who just lost his little sister ) I mean it is interesting how Anzu , the clown with the ridiculous get up , is paired with the people that also dress up in rather … outrageous outfits and makeup in their professional environment .

Then you have Keiji and Hinako lol . Small spy trapped in a mentally ill preteens body

And shin tsukimi butLIKEE hes personal to me i have an attachment to that character that i cant explain so i wont even go there😭 theres many characters i love and many i absolutely hate i have very very strong opinions about this game and everything about it i CANNOT indulge w it in a normal way i become rabid but if u happened to want to ask me anything ... *twirls hair* like yk if you really wanted to .... i would yap and yap and yap on about it

Regarding tsh i cant pick a favorite because they are such complex characters that i cant see them w the same eyes as i would characters from any other media if that makes sense? Like, i love them all as characters and dislike them all as people which was exactly the point. Theyre characters that are meant to be hated so i can hardly go "oh you! Youre my fav! Youre more likeable than the rest!" Because none of them are? Idk. Like i just cant pick one and label them my fav because i see them more as the brilliantly written characters they are than actual people that i can like or dislike

Having said that the first time i read tsh i found all of them intolerable at some point in the story (all at different points) except for francis but the fandom has kind of made me resent him WHICH IM SO UPSET ABOUT im fighting for my life trying to separate fanon from canon cos the way hes portrayed really gets under my skin ... also the first time i read it i was especially fond of bunny i will always defend him from the "he had it coming" allegations idc. And the second time i read it which was like a month ago i felt the same inclination towards charles. maybe im just a villain cause theyre the most hated idk

But like i said i cant really name one as my fav because in my mind theres no such thing as liking them or disliking them yk? Like the way i feel about them is more complex than that because they as characters are more complex than that

okok for the maple and sou question: so because maple wanting to kill him was kind of part of her programming as an obstructor, that wouldn’t really apply here, but that idea is still SO funny to me?? i’ll def have to doodle that at some point lmaooo

their dynamic here is actually really polite! i see them as being good buddies :) maple is one of the participants who’s closer to sou, because she very much wants to work together with the others and see the good in everyone. it’s very much like. “awwww what a nice guy!” and then the guy in question is plotting murder ahsjkskdks

just as an example:

although, i still can def see sou being a little bit scared of her, because maple very much can be scary when she wants to. she’s very opposed to the ideas that the death game perpetuates, what with suspecting and betraying one another, and so while most of her ire is directed towards the floormasters, she can also get pretty pissed when the actual participants try to trick each other. so…yeah, sou tries to stay on her good side and be a nice boy. but he also does genuinely think she’s neat!

for the shin and sou question: i wasn’t actually going to talk about the second main game for at least a little while, but im horrible at keeping secrets anyways and talking about this excites me, so why the hell not!!

so, while over time i’ve leaned less into the idea of a character’s “role” determining the actions they take (e.g. just because shin takes kanna’s role doesn’t mean he acts like kanna), the one thing i have stuck to is that when one character takes another’s role, they will always die at the same point in the story. i wanted to also incorporate ‘branching paths’ for ytr as well, because it’s one of the things that really sticks out to me about yttd!

…so yeah the second main game vote is either between voting for shin or sou (or technically ranmaru, but then everyone else would die). it’s vv tragic to me, because i love both of them </3 but i do what i must for angst.

i’m definitely going to give the main games their own posts (and almost 100% some art as well) in the future, but if you’ll allow me to get a bit rambly about shin and sou’s dynamic here and how it affects the main game, ehehe… ^_^

sou and shin at the beginning of the death game very much start out with ulterior motives. yes, they are friends, but they also gain something out of allying with each other: someone who they can rely on/who can vouch for them, which improves their chances of surviving. so they act all buddy-buddy, but there’s definitely tinges of manipulation going on from both sides (and while they realize exactly what’s happening they still acknowledge that this “trade-off” (both literally and metaphorically lol) is a good deal for both of them)

but throughout the death game they end up getting a lot more comfortable/vulnerable with each other, and soon enough they realize they really care about each other (really, they have the whole time). and this obviously complicates things because them wanting to protect each other throws a wrench in the whole “every-man-for-himself” ideology they’ve been preaching.

so, kind of like kanna, sou tries to get the sacrifice card during the second main game trading phase, but he does it with the intention of having him and shin escape together. …he does not actually get the card because the cards get swapped by gashu (there’s different reasoning for why they’re swapped this time but i’ll get into that in another post as well probably). hence, pain.

i envision the end of the 2nd main game being almost a screaming match between the two as they desperately try to convince everyone else to “vote for me so he can live!” (sort of like the shin and kanna vote but even angrier) (because kanna is a sweetheart and sou is Not) (it’s horribly ironic as i’d consider shin and sou the two characters with the strongest survival instinct in this cast, yet they are both driven to self-sacrifice here)

okok uhhhh sorry for the long tangent as you can see i’m evidently insane about these two’s dynamic in this au! ANYWAYS this vote is a lot different from the shin & kanna one because no matter who ryoko votes for as the tiebreaker, the one who survives will be PISSED. and by god they try everything to make her life a living nightmare in chapter 3 (because. being ryoko is suffering)

Oooh boy. I have...a lot. Uh. How do I start. OK this is getting long I'm putting this under a cut

One of my faves is definitely Chasing Stars by @midnighteraser ! I read the fic before actually playing Sonic Frontiers, and when I ended up experiencing a celestial starfall I ended up being disappointed in it. This fic is so beautifully written that it wasn't done justice by the game (usually when people say that it's the other way around...funky). Tbh I like all of Kirsten's fics and simply chose this one due to it being my favourite out of them all, she leans quite heavily into description and they always end up being super good! It's just so. Ough. If I had a printer I'd print out her fics, blend it with some fruit into a smoothie and drink it the descriptions are that good

Another one I definitely am NOT leaving out (because I have too many to feasibly make a list of) from this is Would You Love a Werehog? by @pajulammas ! This fic man. Cannot even describe how much I love it. There isn't much werehog stuff on AO3 (and even less that I'm actually interested in reading, why is a good chunk of it NSFW 😭) so this fic was a lovely gem to find when browsing AO3 one night. It explores Sonic and his feelings towards the werehog form which was something critically underused in Unleashed, and what can I not love about deeper explorations into things shown in canon? Not only that but the sonadow dynamic here...not the biggest sonadow shipper, just neutral on it, but GOD does this fic get their dynamic right. All of Paju's fics get the sonadow dynamic right actually, the plots he has for his fics are great but the great characterisation is also a nice bonus, like getting sauce in a burger you ordered. I will go into his fics and come out with a million thoughts per second and not a single one of those is a "He would not fucking say that" or anything along the lines. It is great. I am also getting off of track. Getting back on track, Chip is in there so the fic is guaranteed a 10/10 in my eyes. I love Chip he is like. Probably in my top 3 sonic characters of all time.

Moving on, there's also Bloody Macarena. Shin almost dies from doing the macarena. And despite the fic being about something more on the comedy/crack side of things, it also goes into some nice detail on Shin and Kanna's relationship, as well as more on Shin's inner thoughts. None of the yttd fics on AO3 have really ever hit the spot, but this one certainly does!

Genuinely surprised it's taken this long for me to list a jjba fic here, but Connected is just. Ough 👍. I am a big fan of horrors, and this hit all the grooves in my mind, it's so good in terms of horror, I love the open ending sm! Though. Only problem is that the fic was so interesting I want to know even more, knowing I'll never be able to. In a hell of my own making... It also reminds me a little of Superhot. And that is always a plus. Superhot is a great game we all love Superhot here

...I'm gonna be real with you all. This fic is actually very good. Please hear me out on this though I have proper reason to it I beg. Anyways if this is how you find out about the existence of Joseph and Caesar enjoy a burger then I am sorry. The contents of the fic is nothing short of cursed and messed up. It's most certainly crack. It sometimes keeps me up at night simply by thinking about it. In horror. Because I've read this a few times to my friends to see their reactions in real time. And repeated reads of things allows you to notice things you didn't notice before. This fic. This fic is genuinely well-written. And that scares me on so many levels. This fic knows that it's cursed and that it's crack, and by knowing that it knows how to throw its punches. You'll get the general crack vibes out of it with the blatant mischaracterisation of Joseph and Caesar. And then out of nowhere the fic will jump you with a sentence that makes you feel like you've been hit in the face with a frying pan (biggest one that comes to mind here is "The pregnant man groaned." and I actually can't believe I'm writing those words on my tumblr blog. This sentence actually hit me so off guard I literally had to pause my reading). There is good structure. There is actual foreshadowing there. How do I live with this info. Help Me

Now, onto more...normal fics. dinner date. is so so SO good I love it so much. Domestic fluff with Joseph and Caesar is always great. And I love food in any and all ways so having it be food oriented is a bonus. I also love the way Joseph is written in this, it's very cool and awesome and feels very in character :3

And to end this off (because this is going to be ridiculously long if I continue, and because it's literally almost midnight here), a more angsty fic in the form of Too Far! Ough. I love fics (and just stories in general) where a character accidentally upsets another character by getting too angry and snapping and saying something they don't mean/shouldn't, it opens up so many possibilities for things to happen it's wonderful <3

Joe was supposed to be the floormaster but then they realized "Ah fuck they're all too nice of people" so they said "Sara if you act mean we'll make you the floormaster on floor 3" and she was like "BETT" so now Joe's just a guy. Kugie was the receptionist doll but instead of shooting someone when the Me Coins ended she was just like "ok" and existed on the floors with everyone else.

The dummies are all like mini games or helpers. For example, when visiting the boxing room at a certain point, Kurumada will basically be like the YTTS monsters or the obstructors and the gangs gotta beat him in a boxing match without getting fouls. Helper wise, Hinako will give you books in exchange for lil coin things that Mai gives you for talking to her, taste testing one of her pastries, or something like that. Anzu will explain the meaning behind any painting in the gallery, and Hayasaka can pull up information and help you find stuff in the office. And I have no fucking clue with Ranmaru sorry 😭

Kurumada's survival rate was the second highest to Sara and he died in his very first trial, even as a doll he still died AGAIN shortly after being introduced 😭 I think anon might wanna sit down. The only reason Shin has a 0.0% survival rate is 1 because of psycho Sara probably killing him in multiple simulations, and 2 because he sacrificed himself for Kanna in multiple simulations [since the game masters probably knew of their relationship]. The fact that you can even keep him alive till the final game says enough about how accurate the percentages is.

Im betting literally anyone can die in the final game based on the players choice so the 0.0% chance matters even less now because Shins survival depends entirely on us now, unless nankidai writes a scenario where he self sacrifices for reasons unknown atm, or he actually does try to kill us and his collar activaes killing him instead [like Yanmaru] but I personally believe neither of those are gonna happen and its gonna be something NOBODY will ever see coming.

But it is gonna be hilarious if Shin really does and CAN live through the game despite having the lowest percentage, it'd also be a huge fk you to the game masters that the one they most expected to lose actually survived till the end. It'll also be a huge fk you to Shin antis who wanted him to die and claim the Shin route would lead to a 'bad ending' 😜
