twitter was having a shit fit earlier when the SGF happened and the s2 cast was revealed and like
i understand part of the rage at two crossovers and bison already being back, people wanted the big faves to come back like the sf3 cast in general, cody, menat, etc
but think of the LORE, gang, the POTENTIAL
and also when it comes to growing rosters and what characters get in, you gotta get used to the odd choices and potential disappointment, this is why the smash dlcs still worked even with characters like piranha plant and min-min, so i was kinda surprised by all the anger on twitter, and it was genuinely hurting my own hype because yeah i didn't think bison should've been added this early either, but since he is here now anyways, it's time to deep analyze on what they could do with this, because they could prove JP to be the bigger bad if they play their cards right
anyways guess im lurking on tumblr for a bit, yall are stuck with me now KFHSLFND

Even more pics of my F.A.N.G Catsuit mod. It's a combination of him swapping over Poison, Juri, and Falke. I really really like this mod. I might port him over to Street Fighter 6 or to other games <3 <3

Reverse Unpopular Opinion: Necalli
I like his moveset, I enjoy wild man characters and I liked the idea of a character who could bring back some of the face-biting inscrutable beastman mystique that Blanka had to shed (not that Blanka doesn't bite faces or does vicious attacks anymore, but it's different than when you first meet him). I still think he had one of the more well-done incorporations of the V-Trigger mechanic via the transformation. I also like his design, not one of my favorites, but I do like it. I feel like it was really hampered by really wonky hair physics and the game's artstyle, but I could see it working gangbusters if he was introduced in SF6.
Necalli's one of the few fighters unanimously considered a dud (and might be the only mainline character who wasn't even a little retroactively embraced? Even Rufus, Falke and Ingrid have their shooters) but I honestly think the problem wasn't with him as much as it was the writing for SFV being garbage and them being unwilling to commit to the hype they built for him. I think Necalli had plenty of individually cool components that could have amounted to something cool, maybe even great, if he actually even remotely mattered outside of being a boss fight for Ryu.
I love G, infinitely better than Necalli, but I call bullshit on him being supposed to be the Final Boss, they hyped up Necalli as someone who could devour Bison and gave him a Saiyan form and stamped V all over his body. He was clearly meant to be the guy, and if G was being hyped up to play a role in A Shadow Falls, I guarantee he would not be so fondly remembered. The same thing happened with Necalli, everybody was onboard with the Pillar Man mystery box until it was time to open it.
His Story Mode, and the version of him that exists in the Story Mode, honestly should have been what they went with for the guy, it's part of why him being dissappointing soured people.
I think he could have worked pretty well as the resident Weird Monster of the setting, and that's not exactly a niche anyone else is filling.
Tumblr media
He is an "Emissary of the Gods" who shows up every few hundred years to seek out and consume the strongest warriors, and frankly you could get a lot out of unpacking just that, that not only does are the gods of the Street Fighter universe just as obsessed with battles as everyone else in this world, but they created a horrible monster to be summoned by combat and fight the worthiest warriors for, why? To honor them? Prune them? Punish them for excessive fighting? Cut monsters like Bison down before they get too strong, or push them towards new heighs as he did with Ryu? What is he for?
He can possess animals, and enter dreams. He can expand and balloon his flesh into gross fleshy Tetsuo/Majin Buu mutations in order to absorb people, and that never shows up in his gameplay, in fact none of his weird powers do except for that V-Skill where he barfs on the floor. He is summoned by conflict and his drive is to kill and devour the source of said conflict. He seems barely sentient but apparently has a "hidden genius". He can inflict a literally paralyzing fear and is surrounded by a noxious gas that "pollutes" the souls and turns the infected into beings like him that seek other souls, and that literally never shows up in-game, ever, apparently that was just for a blog post.
Is it too much? Probably, yeah, but it's something. It's a lot of somethings instead of a literal nothing. He doesn't do anything much for Ryu's story arc, he doesn't even do anything for Akuma's currently abysmal kill record, because by the time Akuma kills him, defeating Necalli is the least impressive thing to do. If you're gonna pull the trigger on having a guy this full of strange powers and prophecies and mystery boxes as the villain you put front and center on the advertisement, the least you can do is try to deliver on them. It's kind of confusing that they didn't even try.
I feel like you could even maybe salvage the dude if you just leaned on the weirdness. Apparently one of the Udon comics established he is "a conceptual being who is tied to the aspect of conflict, and cannot be destroyed by normal means as long as there is a universe where conflict exist"? Okay, lean into that. Make it so that he is Necalli, plural. As in, there's multiple of him, maybe one's not that strong on his own, but nobody's ever had to fight several at once and all of them trying to kill and absorb you into the collective. Maybe he is a viral sickness that comes up again and again all over the world, that was supposed to only happen every few hundreds of years but has been happening more and more frequently ever since Bison darkened the world, or maybe ever since Street Fighter tournaments became the thing the world revolves around, maybe ever since Ryu got a taste of the dark side and mauled Sagat for it.
He is not the answer, but a cancer at the heart of battle, waiting for the next warrior who falls victim to their own strength, the next person to be corrupted by the Satsui no Hadou or Psycho Power, a persistence predator biding his time until the warriors are too weak to fight him off, and then he'll take the souls that belong to him, or maybe even come from him, if he's to be believed. Because really, WHY is there a Necalli? Why would the gods sign off on this existing? Could it even be they were right to do so, given the role he played in awakening Ryu's potential so he could stop Bison? Is he a sickness or a cure, and what does it say about our beloved World Warriors if the fabric of the universe deemed it necessary to sick such a horrible thing on them?
This guy could even allow for a Street Fighter equivalent to a zombie apocalypse, if they even incorporated that toxic soul gas thing into anything we see in game. It might not the best idea, but it's something? Anything? Anything better than what he did for sure.
Idk man, even if he was never going to be a particularly interesting Final Boss, you can't dissappoint on such a scale if you never promise, and for a hot second, Necalli WAS promising. There was an excitement around him and around the things built up for him. That's more than I can say for a lot of other characters. I'd like to think a Mortal Kombat character who somehow found his way into Street Fighter is an idea even a little worth salvaging.
Tumblr media
But then again I definitely don't think we need to have MORE fuckers surviving encounters with Akuma so, RIP bozo.

I’m digging this design more than his SFV one. And Capcom will feminize him themselves when they eventually release Falke.

It would be so easy to feminize him.

I’ve had this redraw idea in my brain ever since they added Falke’s holiday skin in SFV about two years ago. And I finally did it! In time for December 10th, even!

Reasons for F.A.N.G to return as Playable Character for Street Fighter 6
Tumblr media
A lot of popular characters didn’t make it into the Street Fighter 6 launch roster and Season 1 DLC. There were some hopes to see them as NPC in World Tour, especially that we have locations and images that hint at their existence like Abigail, Dan, Cody, Gill, Hakan, and many others…but that didn’t happen. They’re either mentioned in dialogue or through illustrations. When the A.K.I. dlc dropped, F.A.N.G became the first previous playable Street Fighter character to become a World Tour NPC. And so far he is the only one. I’m not sure why characters like Abigail and Dan didn’t become NPC when they have business locations in Metro City. Perhaps they might be future dlc? Who knows. But it made sense for FANG to appear in SF6. There’s the Toxicity 3-Parter story for F.A.N.G that was released back in 2018 and was supposed to take place after the events of SFV. It gave us a glimpse of what’s in store for what’s going to happen in Street Fighter 6 (and not just introducing AKI as a new character). It would be underwhelming to see him being only mentioned through dialogue or through pictures when he actually has plans of his own. The best way to learn about his motives is to talk to the man himself in World Tour.
But F.A.N.G being a World Tour NPC might probably confirmed him as a non-playable character. Perhaps, but not necessarily. We’re only in Season 1 and Capcom has pulled a lot of unexpected surprises for us in the past. We’ll first go over the reasons why FANG won’t be playable, and then to why he “could” be playable.
NOT PLAYABLE
- A.K.I. is in the game. Sure, she’s not charge and has cool animations, but her moves are essentially variants of FANG’s moves. Gameplay is also considered an uphill battle against other characters in-game, so essentially she’s literally the FANG of SF6. Also, so much of F.A.N.G’s personality is already in A.K.I. as if she loved him so much that she absorbed almost everything about him. Sure she has some character differences that sets her apart from FANG, but she still has so much of him that she basically can replace him for it.
- Not popular enough. We all know this. Not only that he’s the least played character for almost the entirety of SFV lifespan, but people don’t like him because he looks and acts goofy (and not necessarily because he murdered a good person in cold blood…weird lol).
- Already an NPC that’s built from the Avatar creator.
- The Avatar already knows him, so we can’t have an intro for him like with Roster characters that have their names introduced.
- Already has a set location where you can find him, which is under the Haggar Stadium at Urban Park in Metro City.
- He refuses to let you handle poison when you ask for some. Meaning he ain’t gonna teach you his technique and he’s not going to be your Master lol.
Tumblr media
PLAYABLE??
Regardless of what was said above, there is still a possibility that F.A.N.G might be playable:
- Plays differently from A.K.I. Yes, even though AKI has variants of FANG’s moves, they’re not quite exact. It’s like comparing Ryu with Sakura. They’re similar, but not really. And depending on how you look at it, you might think that AKI plays wildly different from her master. Especially that she’s not charge and her moves and normals have different properties from FANG. Not to mention, AKI even admits that her Heel Strike is not as good as FANG’s Senpukuga (Coward Crouch kick). Because of that, F.A.N.G might have a chance to be in the same game with AKI because their moveset properties are different enough. Definitely more different than any shotos at least lol. Sonic Boom characters like Guile and Nash were in the same game. Psycho Powered characters like M. Bison, Ed, and Falke were in the same game. Balrog (boxer) and Dudley were in the same game. Rose and Menat were in the same game. Why can’t AKI and FANG be in the same game?
- Just because a character is not popular it doesn’t mean they’ll never come back. There was a 2018 character popularity poll that Capcom Japan put out and the most popular characters were Sakura and Makoto (https://game.capcom.com/cfn/sfv/vote). Ed was ranked at 79th place, BELOW F.A.N.G. Guess what? Sakura and Makoto didn’t make it in for Season 1 dlc (but they might in later seasons). Who made it in? Ed! That’s right, the devs chose Ed to have a palpable appearance before some of the most popular characters. And I would dare say that they did the same thing for FANG. He’s just an NPC, but he too had a physical appearance before a lot of popular characters did. Popularity isn’t everything. It’s all up to Capcom on what they want to do.
- I remember I posted a tweet that if a previously playable Street Fighter character is going to be an NPC, they’re probably not gonna be playable in the game. Other users have put in their 2 cents that characters like Alex, Kolin, and Gill were background and story NPC’s in SFV, yet they became playable. Hopefully that’ll be the case for SF6. I see quite a number of people want characters like Li-Fen and Thrasher Damnd (who was also built from the Avatar creator) to be dlc playable.
- Curiously enough, we’re not able to fight FANG (yet). Would it be too much to bring his battle animations from SFV to SF6? A lot of his animations were taken from SFV when you talk to him. Why can’t they do the same for his battle animations? Are they saving that for later, or what? Also, they could’ve had him fight like AKI because he’s the one who taught her the snake style kung fu himself. But no, he’s not a fightable NPC. Maybe this might be a trend for the next previous playable SF characters when they become NPC; being there without being able to fight. But maybe they’re saving FANG’s NPC fighting style for later, or this could be a sign that he might be playable later on??
- F.A.N.G was not introduced as F.A.N.G, but as Fang Fei. We only know him as Fang Fei in World Tour. There were no mentioning of the name “F.A.N.G” from neither himself nor from A.K.I. If FANG were to become playable, they would surely give him a proper introductory cutscene that reveals his name. Also fun bit, Fumettosa mentions that the word “Fei” can be translated as “No,” which means FANG’s alias could be interpreted as “Not Fang” as he’s going incognito when he’s selling drugs as an NPC.
- How would they handle NPC Fang Fei? Either they update his model or just leave it the way it is. I can imagine F.A.N.G appearing as his true evil self at night or perhaps in another location like Nayshall or elsewhere.
- Fang Fei refuses to let you handle poison, but F.A.N.G might teach you a thing or two. Maybe if you do some sort of preliminary mission, FANG might think you’re worthy enough to learn from him.
- Has a cool new design. When he’s first revealed in SF6, the vast majority of reactions were positive. Many of which thought he’d be worthy enough to come back as a playable character in the current series installment. For me, I always loved FANG’s design since SFV, but if it takes a redesign for people to be excited for him, then I welcome it.
- He still has a motive. We all know from both Toxicity and AKI’s story that FANG wanted to revive Shadaloo and to find* M. Bison. That shouldn’t end at the AKI dlc. I’d like to see how this would play out. AKI’s story is to fulfill her master’s orders, spook JP away from reviving Shadaloo and have her Master handle the revival himself, and ultimately receive the praise that she deserves. FANG’s story has yet to unfold. People in the past thought AKI would take over FANG’s job to revive Bison and Shadaloo, when that’s not the case because she never said Bison’s name in any of her dialogue. FANG is the one who desperately wanted to revive Shadaloo. But will he be able to do it? That’s a future dlc story to tell. (Edit 6/4/2024 = Bison has already been resurrected. F.A.N.G is interested in finding him)
- (1/16/2024) Three more reasons HERE.
Tumblr media
I actually have one more reason, but that’s going to be for another post (right here, if you want to know). But yes, these are my thoughts. Would I want F.A.N.G to be playable? Absolutely! But at the same time I know it’s just wishful thinking. Only time would tell. But then again maybe FANG is more fitting as a World Tour NPC than as a playable roster character? Most roster character plot involvement is quite minimal compared to the NPCs in World Tour (Li-Fen, Thrasher Damnd, Bosch had bigger roles in the story progression than any of the playable characters). Maybe in turn of him being unplayable, we might see FANG push the SF6 plot further, that means we get to see more of him. Plus, if he becomes a fightable NPC, it’ll probably give the devs more freedom to go ham on his AI moveset and make him “overpowered” as how it was supposed to be described as in his Toxicity story and to some extent on how AKI described him lol. But for now, I’m just happy to see FANG again in a physical appearance in-game rather just illustrations. And Capcom hasn’t “ruined” him yet from my perspective lol. I think the devs did a great job in handling his character so far 💜💜

I’m new to the whole street fighter universe/lore, but honestly I love for a moment or an au at the very least where Bison’s clones, Ed, Abel, Cammy, and Falke (pls don’t be mad if I forgot one) get together/connect as a family after the events of SFV5. Basically, it’s just big weird family who hate on Bison for everything at first but evolves into something more as they share more about themselves with each other as time goes on. Also Rose is technically the group’s team mom due her soul connection with Bison. Idk, I feel like this kind of topic is overlooked which is understandable, but I can definitely see Abel and Cammy being the first to become best friends if Chun Li introduces each other. Then Ed meets them later on with Menat, Falke and Rose’s suggestion. Besides, who won’t want to watch this whole gang go at it against M. Bison if he ever got revived again in the next game. I’m just a sucker for weird found family concepts.
