The wonderfully talented Animalisa Keys asked me to do her Final Fantasy IV Complete Piano Soundtrack (Spotify | Youtube). We were mutually agreed on what character to use for the cover. ♫

This image was very rushed and has so many things I should fix... but I figure I'd rather draw a new one from scratch. After all, there'll never be enough imagery of Edward/Gilbert and Rydia singing together ^^ (and FFIV robbed us by not including anything of the sort)

Funnily enough, I was 29 years late for FFIV¡s fandom (played it for the first time in August 2020)

WIP || This is actually a sketch of Rydia I did last year, but I'm in the process of updating it with the new design I sketched out for her, seeing as her design is pretty inconsistent D: ....So in the end I've just decided to do whatever.

Little Rydia was originally supposed to be holding a staff, but I think I might actually change her to be holding the Eidolon Whyt instead. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what I'm changing yet (...well...except for those legs) or adding to the piece but I'm sure I'll get there eventually!

On a small side note, this was my attempt in 2023 to redraw the piece included in this big redraw/improvement post of selected arts, which is why I've decided to rework it now.

Rydia has arrived! This song came up on my feed and I absolutely had to do it. It was so much fun. Rydia deserves a convention build from me. I made this in a hurry to surprise my stream while we were playing FFIV. I'm still a Rosa stan but Rydia is still a favorite of mine.

I’ve been working on an FFIV fan fic and so I decided to make a reference sheet for some of the characters. Anime is hard, y’all! Getting the features to look right (even with using a lot of references!) is a gargantuan task. I don’t have this much trouble with semi-realism or other stylizations, but anime style? Brain don’t wanna brain it.

On the plus side, this is good practice! And it’s good practice trying to keep characters on model for angles I don’t draw that much. I really like the simple look of the gray shading (slightly different than how I’ve used it in the past), so I’m probably going to play with that more going forward.

Any anime artists out there have advice for me? Or links to tutorials/other resources for getting better at drawing in an anime style?
