How is the Nabarries' relationship with Padmé and Luke in your au? Do they know about Leia and Anakin or are they involved with Padmé in the rebellion?
very good! Luke spent most of his early childhood with the Naberries when Padmé was senator-ing, so he's especially close with them! however they don't know about the rebellion at all and they don't know the full story around Luke's father (they're also being fed the lie abt him being some random Naboo guy not a jedi) or that Leia even exists ): so like mostly good but Jobal, Ruwee, and Sola are definitely aware Padmé's hiding smthn but nobody asks

I got bit by the writing bug and thought, “since Padme was senator of Naboo did somebody else take over being queen? Did Naboo have a regent?”
this lead to a rabbit hole of the Padme’s family and the extended Skywalker family.
this is what I have. The Skywalker side is more detailed and comes from several Legends comics while I got padme’s side off a site and didn’t check sources so excuse anything missing or wrong.
Shmi Skywalker❤️The Force=Anakin Skywalker
Shmi Skywalker❤️Clagg Lars
Owen Lars❤️Beru Whitesun
Ruwee Naberrie❤️Jobal Naberrie=Padme Naberrie and Sola Naberrie
Anakin Skywalker❤️Padme Naberrie=Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa
Luke Skywalker❤️Mara Jade=Ben Skywalker
Leia Organa❤️Han Solo=Jacen Organa-Solo, Jaina Organa-Solo and Anakin Organa-Solo
Sola Naberrie=Ryoo Naberrie and Pooja Naberrie
So. Take a look at this tree. Ya see anything odd about it? Is it odd that Leia, who hated Vader and saw him as Vader even after she knew he was her biological father and BLEW UP HER PLANET WITH HER PARENTS ON IT, and she named her kid after him?
Is it just me or does this strike anyone else’s as odd? Like, you have people to name a kid after. Why choose the one who she never even recognized as her family? Just a thought
Maybe have somebody from Naboo come by, tell Luke and Leia about Padme. Breha was Leia’s mom, her mother, the woman who raised her. But she admires Padme. She remembers her from when she was born. Does Luke know anything about Padme? That she was a queen and a senator? That he’s technically a prince?

"You know how it goes..."
"I've been trying to find ways to let you down without hurting you too much..."
Words she'd never ever thought she'd hear leaving her beloved's lips. Every single one that he uttered twisted the knife further in her chest. She never thought she'd ever experience such betrayal from him. Anakin had always been so fiercely loyal, so forthright, so determined that nothing should get in the way of their love for each other. Not a war. Not the Council. How could he do this to her? It was a miracle that she managed to hold herself together as she watched him turn away and walk out the door. She couldn't even find words to respond to him. Part of her wanted to scream at him for breaking her heart. The other part wanted to beg him to come back to her. Instead, she just stood frozen in place. But the instant the door slid shut behind him, she fell to her knees, sobbing in anguish, loudly enough to bring Motée running in to find and attend to her. What was she going to do now? How was she supposed to live without him?
Tumblr media
Four years later, she had learned that she could indeed go on without Anakin in her life. She could even be happy. Though really, she dared anyone to be unhappy when they were blessed with such precocious and adorable twins as Luke and Leia Naberrie. She'd retired from her position as Senator the very next day after signing the divorce papers, following through on her plan to return to Naboo to have the baby (she hadn't known it was twins at that point.) After confessing the whole truth to her parents, they'd taken her in and helped her with the twins in that difficult first year after their birth.
Thanks to some of Ruwee's contacts, Padmé had taken a job in the refugee organization that she and her father had worked with back when she was a child. Although the Clone Wars had ended, even now there were still so many refugees displaced by destroyed planets. Thankfully, the Senate seemed to be running a lot more smoothly under the leadership of Chancellor Mothma. Getting the funds and support necessary for her organization to help heal war torn worlds wasn't as difficult as Padmé had expected. Sometimes she wondered if their old suspicions about Chancellor Palpatine had been correct.
Then one day, out of the blue, an old friend had stopped by to see her in the little home in Theed where she lived with her twins. Seeing Obi-Wan only reminded her of Anakin and brought up memories that she had been trying hard to suppress for four years. But he'd come to her for help, and she couldn't turn him away. A small part of her was tempted to, when he explained that he needed her to help him save Anakin. And yet... her anger at him had long since cooled into something like resignation, not hatred. She didn't wish him ill. She just wished that she could forget about him. And she was afraid she never would.
And yet despite this concern, she had traveled across the galaxy to The Citadel, escorted by Master Kenobi, where, as he'd explained, Anakin had been imprisoned for the past year under false allegations that he had committed treason by murdering Chancellor Palpatine. They wanted her help with his case, when it came to trial in a couple of months. As she sat in the small, bleak visiting room, waiting for him to be brought in, she found her heart beating faster. What was she going to say to him? She hadn't spoken to him in four years. She hadn't so much as seen his face, because she'd always turned off the HoloNet whenever someone mentioned him. The wound he had left in her heart had only scabbed over. It hadn't healed. And the scab was about to be ripped right off...
She heard footsteps in the corridor outside and took a deep breath to steady herself. Then the door opened. Her eyes quickly traveled up and down his frame - so familiar and yet so different. She'd never seen him look so weak and pitiful. She'd expected his usual defiance and bravado, but he looked.... broken. Despite her determination not to let him hurt or disappoint her again, Padmé felt compassion stirring in her heart. She tried to think of something clever to say, some way to keep her old Amidala mask in place to protect herself. But the only thing that would come out was:
"Hello Anakin."
Tumblr media
If he needed to count down all the hardest decisions, the hardest things he had to do throughout his entire existence, what was currently transpiring was definitely one of the ones on top for breaking the heart of his love, his angel was the one thing he promised himself he could never do. Yet, there he was, destroying every single promises he ever made to Padme. He kept telling himself that he had no other choices, that staying with her -- With them, meant putting them in danger. That not being part of their lives, for now, would save them. And that's all he wanted. These words were able to keep him from falling on his knees right then and there and beg for his wife's forgiveness. He couldn't drop the act right now, instead he needed to push it; so that ... So that his angel would hate him. It's all he could do for her. " You know how it goes -- I often tag along with the men. " He shrugged, lying through his teeth. Sure, he'd go, sometimes ... But no women, or even men, would ever be able to catch his eyes. How could they when Padme possessed his body, heart and soul?
Tumblr media
She should know better, a voice inside his mind told him. How could she believe any of that? Didn't I show her times and times again how much she meant to me? How could she believe his words when the moment she announced his pregnancy to him ... He was overjoyed? Nothing else but them mattered. And if he were to be thrown out of the Order due to that then ... So be it. They were so much more important. " A youngling will only complicate everything I've built up until now. What did you think? For weeks, I've been trying to find ways to let you down without hurting you too much. Because I ... I care about you, Padme. " He winced, fuck, he sounded like such an asshole and these words were so unlike himself. He did end up watching some of these Holo Drama to get some ... help, when it came to these kind of conversations. Because such words couldn't come to him otherwise. He had rehearse once his mind was made up.
Then she signed the divorce paper and while he convinced himself that this is what he wanted, he felt as if his whole world was falling apart. And her words, the mask taking place on her face right then ... It was all over. He did it. Yet, there was no trace of joy in the smile that appeared on his face then. Anakin Skywalker, how can you be so cruel? He nodded, taking a few steps back, hoping the way his hands trembled some while holding the papers wasn't too obvious. " If that's what you wishes ... I'm ... " He looked down, mask falling apart for a couple of seconds as he uttered the next words. " I'm sorry. " And then, he turned on his heels, knowing that if he stayed a second longer, he couldn't stop the tears from flowing.

the Naberrie family. / from left to right; Jobal Naberrie (padmé's mother), Sola Naberrie (padmés little sister), future queen of naboo Padmé Amidala, and her father, Ruwee Naberrie.
this takes place in my separatist Padmé au, in which she was born to the Naberrie family, humble shaak herders from the Gallo mountains. she was chosen for sponsorship by the wealthy Amidala family, who installed her as an attempted puppet Queen and took her beneath their wing, renamed Padmé Amidala. this did not go according to plan.

Note
I like the AOTC deleted scenes and Padmé’s bedroom gave me an idea. Padmé and Anakin return to Naboo and before heading to Varykino Padmé wants to see her parents. However her parents aren’t home, they’re out with their nieces, so they go into the house to wait. In her bedroom Anakin reminds her how Sola teased her about Anakin being the first boyfriend she ever brought home and they laugh about it.
They’re lying in Padmé’s bed and she tells him now he’s the only boy to ever be in her bed here and she kisses him. They spend sometime just holding each other end kissing until they hear two girls running around, her parents and nieces are home. They jump out of bed and straighten their clothes, Padmé fixes Anakin hair a little. Anakin points at the window and he indicates that he’s going to jump out it and does.
Padmé goes down to surprise her parents and nieces. Her parents are concerned that she’s here by herself and she explains she isn’t and when they get to the kitchen they all see Anakin in the backyard. (Not sure of the layout of her house so I think it works).
Anakin comes in an greets everyone and Padmé explains she stopped by to see them before going to Varykino. Ruwee invites them to stay for dinner and before Padmé can say anything Anakin accepts the offer.
As the four sit around the dinner table Ryoo and Pooja are in the living room resting, they had a big lunch and aren’t hungry.
“Where’s Sola? I’d hope to see her while I was home,” asked Padmé.
“She and Darred went away for a few days. We’re looking after the girls for them,” said Jobal with a smile on her face.
“Maybe they’ll come back from their getaway with another baby,” added Ruwee with a smile on his face.
“Dad, your worse than Mom,” said Padmé with a shocked look in her face.
“Dear, we have company,” said Jobal looking from her husband to Anakin who was sitting quietly enjoying his meal. A small smile on his face from seeing Padmé shocked by something.
“Pretend I’m not here and discuss whatever you like,” said Anakin. Padmé turned and gave him a quick look.
“We will not. You’re here and we’re happy to have,” said Ruwee. “You’re our guest and someone we’re happy to see. We know how you protect our daughter now and in the past and want you to know you’re always welcome here.”
“Thank you,” said Anakin looking from Ruwee to Jobal. “Thank you.”
“How have you been, Anakin?” asked Jobal. “You haven’t been in too much danger?”
“No more than any other Jedi.” As Anakin said this a small look of concern came over Padmé’s face. “But we get rotated out of combat areas when the situation allows. That’s why I’m accompanying Padmé here.”
“We’re grateful your with her but it mustn’t be to relaxing because you’re guarding her,” said Ruwee.
“There haven’t been any new threats, Dad,” answered Padmé.
“No, there haven’t. I’m here out of caution,” a smile came to Anakin’s face. “Besides I’ve always like visiting Naboo. It’s a very beautiful world and being here is soothing.”
From the living room the sound of stirring children could be heard. Jobal started to get up and Anakin stood up as well. “I’ll watch them so you can talk to Padmé,” and Anakin was out of the room before Jobal and Ruwee could protest.
“Anakin will be fine,” Padme told her mother. “At the Temple the older Padwans have to help with the younger children from time to time. He’s use to dealing with children.”
“Is he fine?” asked Ruwee in a lower voice while touching the right side of his head. Padmé knew her father was referring to the scar by Anakin’s right eye.
“He is,” said Padmé with a relieved look on her face. “There was no damage to his eye.”
Ruwee studied his daughter for a moment. “That’s good to hear.”
“I can’t believe you brought up Sola having a mother baby with Anakin here, Dad,” said Padmé trying to change the subject.
“Perhaps instead of the girls having a new sibling they could have some cousins to play with,” said Jobal.
The three continue to talk while Anakin entertains the girls. Padmé listens as her parents talk about their hope that she’ll make time for herself and not just her duties.
Padmé wonders how much of this Anakin could hear and wondered what the look on his face was. He was probably amused. Finally with her resolve weakening Padmé gives them something. She tells them there is someone. She wants to say it’s Anakin but holds back. They sit in there seats silently as she continues. She tells them that her friend is fighting in the war. She doesn’t know where he is now but he’s safe.
Her parents have so many questions but they restrain themselves. Padmé tells them they’ll learn who he is when the war is over. He has a commitment to fulfill and when that is done he’ll leave his position and she hopes to retire soon after. She hasn’t talked about him because of the threats made against her and that he could be made a target.
Her parents tell her she can always talk to them and that she doesn’t have to carry this burden alone. Padmé offers a few details, he’s tall and caring. When they get to be together he picks her up and spins her around.
Later after dinner Padmé and Anakin have left to go to Varykino and Ruwee and Jobal are in bed still thinking about what Padmé had told them. Jobal is happy but apprehensive because the man is fighting in the war. While Ruwee is lost in thought. Jobal looks over at her husband and asks what’s in his mind and he says “It’s Anakin.”
“Anakin, dear.” Ruwee looked at his wife. “Padmé was talking about Anakin. When she returns home she always has guards unless she’s here with Anakin. Because of his commitment to the Jedi he can’t have a relationship. He’d be thrown out of the Order.”
Jobal couldn’t process what her husband was saying but as she thought about it more. It made sense. “She said he was good with children and Anakin is good with children,” she said out loud.
Ruwee and Jobal sat quietly for a moment and than he took her hand in his and he whispered a small prayer. Jobal nodded and repeated it. It was a prayer to the Naboo gods asking them to watch over their daughter and Anakin.
This is so good!! Every interaction between Anakin and the Naberries is so sweet and wholesome.

"Yes I did," she said with a sad smile. "You are a sentient being. The very least you deserve is your freedom. And beyond that... I know that it was hard to let Anakin go, but in doing so, you helped save my planet and my people. We owe you so much."
Moving to the sofa, she took a seat and gestured for Shmi to do so as well. "Would you like some tea?" she asked, reaching for the pot and a cup. After pouring a cup for each of them, she also handed a plate to Shmi to take some of the finger sandwiches and tarts that Jobal had set out. She waited until the other woman had to chance to get a bite to eat before asking: "How are you doing? It's been nearly six years since I saw you last, I think."
Before Shmi could answer, Padmé heard footsteps behind her and turned to see her father standing there and smiling at her. "Hi Dad," she greeted him, before looking back to Shmi. "Shmi, this is my father, Ruwee Naberrie. He has many connections with various refugee resettlement agencies around the Mid and Inner Rim. Together we'll be able to help you figure out what you want to do next and get you settled wherever you might want to live."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shmi didn't expect much from this life, not anymore. While she wasn't born in slavery, it was hard for the woman to remember a part of her life in which she wasn't owned by someone else. Her parents sold her to repay debts when she was barely six years of age, and she has been owned by so many masters ever since. These travels making her land on Tatooine of all places, where she was certain by then that she would remain until her dying breath. It was okay, and she didn't even mourn for herself anymore. There was no point. All she ever wanted was for her son to have a good life, something she on her own could have never given him, so knowing that he was elsewhere ... Surely living his dream was all that she needed. Once he was gone, she missed him. Dearly. But it was easier this way ... Without the stress of knowing if he'd be able to eat, or sleep. Her Ani deserved the world.
So what was her surprise when a young woman came to her, looking quite alike with the young girl whom was brought to her home by her son as well as an other Jedi. At first, she thought it was just to say hello -- She couldn't help but wonder why one would come to the twin suns planet when given the choice, but she didn't voice her opinion. It wasn't her place. It's only when the words " You are free, miss Skywalker. " were spoken that the woman finally understood just what was happening. Only to go into shock for a couple minutes. These words ... She was no longer hoping for them. This was her life now, and truthfully she didn't think there was anything else she could do. It was all she ever knew.
And yet ... She agreed, leaving the sand behind to go into the cold space and then to Naboo. A place she never visited, simply heard about from times to times. It was the first time she saw such ... Nature, and so much water. A surprising sight, but not one she disliked. The Naberrie made sure to make her feel at home, she didn't have the heart to let them know that it was a lot more than she had been used to. She didn't want anyone's pity. Didn't deserve it. Shmi could only thank them, and when she was told to sit while they were making tea ...
It was hard for her to listen, and not do anything. It was Padme's arrival that stopped the woman from trying to help, once more. She offered the younger one a gentle smile, squeezing her hands in hers. ❝ I never thought I'd see you again. I can't ... ❞ The woman was at a loss for words. ❝ You didn't have to do any of this -- I'll be forever grateful to you, and your friend. But I do not want to impose. ❞

Anidala week 2021 Day 4: Modern AU. Fanfic prompt.
" Before Prom"
Anakin and Padme are in high school and just began going out as a couple.
@anidalaweek.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
@perewernut this gif is yours. I take no credit for it. Thank you for providing it.
Slow, steady breaths calmed the butterflies churning in the young woman's stomach. She stood and regarded her own appearance through the mirror, smoothing a small crease in her strapless rose-colored dress.
Almond eyes flickered to the clock behind her on the desk through her reflection.
He is almost here.
Inhaling deeply once more, Padme Naberrie reached for her clutch purse by its strap and the soft red chiffon shawl, both resting on the edge of her vanity dresser.
She glanced at herself one more time before ambling toward her door and turning off her bedroom light.
Padme stepped out and shut her bedroom door while her older sister, Sola stopped by the stairs, a knowing smirk on her face.
"Excited", she quipped, following Padme down the steps.
Padme did not have time for Sola. For the last few years, before Anakin Skywalker became Padme's boyfriend, her sister kept teasing her about chickening out of telling Anakin how she felt. Sola knew they both liked each other and their extreme nervousness amused her. Yet Sola hadn't stopped bugging her sister even after Anakin finally asked Padme out.
"Anakin is my boyfriend now. You can stop Sola."
Sola crossed her arms and laughed while their father Ruwee appeared from the kitchen carrying a drink in his hand.
"Everything is still so new though", she said, "its only been a few months. You both are so sweet and adorable, happy but anxious too at times. You dear sister practically glow like you're already pregnant!"
"SOLA!" Padme shrieked, slapping her sister forcefully in the arm, her eyes blazed in anger.
"Why did you say that"?
Ruwee overheard and his countenance changed to an almost predatory gaze as he instantly grew incensed.
"Dad," Padme began, "you know Anakin well enough now. He will never do a thing that I am uncomfortable with. He's not like other men".
Padme flashed her sister a dark look when it seemed their father was not going to say anything.
"I was just joking dad", Sola gave in. "I was only saying Padme and Anakin are really happy together. He is a sweet and respectful guy".
Their father's face softened in time for the doorbell to ring.
"I will see myself out,"Sola announced and left the hall.
Padme straightened and checked for more creases in her dress again. She caught her father's stare and he smiled at her.
"You look beautiful sweetheart."
"Thank you dad", Padme beamed.
Ruwee answered the door and color immediately rose to Padme's cheeks as her eyes swept over the young man before them.
If fear gripped Anakin from the slight suspicion in his girlfriend's father's expression, he did not show it.
"Hello Mr. Naberrie", Anakin greeted and shook Ruwee's hand.
" I am here to pick up Padme and take her to prom. I promise to have her home before midnight sir".
"I know you will son but I will still watch that clock nevertheless".
Ruwee pointed to the large clock on the wall beside the stairs.
"Padme is still my daughter".
Anakin respectfully nodded.
"I'd expect nothing less sir. I will bring her home before midnight".
Ruwee stepped aside to allow his youngest daughter to take Anakin's pre offered hand.
"Thank you dad and I will see you, mom and Sola later".
The older man wished her a wonderful time, gave Anakin a hard stare and then shut the door.
Anakin escorted Padme to his car, unlocked the passenger door and helped her inside.
"Why do I get the feeling something happened before I arrived?" Anakin asked.
"I think your father wants to secretly kill me".
"Sola", was all Padme needed to say before comprehension settled into her boyfrend's features when he climbed into the driver's seat.
"Ah," he chuckled.
"But don't worry", Padme added, " my family adore you. You are so unlike my sister's ex-boyfriend Marx before she met Darred. He was always bringing her home late and Sola came home in the middle of the night drunk with him. But he was during Sola's rebellious phase. They broke up when she came to her senses, thank the gods".
Anakin suppressed his laugh when Padme finished and he turned on the small light above the rear view mirror.
"I will never disregard you or your family in anyway", he vowed.
"I care a lot about you".
Padme smiled.
"I know".
Anakin took in Padme's simple but stunning outfit.
"You are breathtakingly beautiful", he said.
"Like an angel".
Padme blushed again and reached for Anakin's hand, interlacing their fingers together.
"You look quite handsome yourself", she observed.
Padme fingered the smooth material of Anakin's tux.
She shuddered in pleasure when a warm palm cupped her cheek and Anakin's lips touched hers.
The kiss deepened for several, long minutes and neither wanted it to end they finally pulled apart.
Realization dawned on Anakin and he extended an arm to the backseat and collected a translucent box holding a corsage of red and white roses wrapped in soft silk ribbon.
"I bought this for you for tonight".
"Its beautiful", Padme marveled while holding out her arm as Anakin attached the accessory to her wrist.
He kissed Padme again and started the ignition.
"Ready to go?"
Padme nodded.
They strapped themselves in and Padme let her palm linger on Anakin's thigh during the whole trip to their school, wishing to retain some physical closeness to which, Anakin certainly did not mind.

She didn’t have any interest in continuing her education and thought her time could be better placed elsewhere. They never approved of her interests so they began to fight about these decisions. Leia was standing her ground on not going to college. She began to save up money to move out the day she turned eighteen. It wasn’t easy and her first apartment wasn’t much to look at — but it was all hers! Eventually they fixed things about a year or two of Leia being on her own. It proved that she could handle taking care of herself and was serious about traveling down this path. They’ll never understand but they missed their daughter and wanted to have that close relationship back. This made her happy because she missed them too. It was important for Leia to take self-defense classes and learn how to protect herself. Something else that wouldn’t be approved of. She would rather learn how to fight than get into politics like her father always talked about. After both of her parents retired, they decided to travel the world since they’ve been putting money away before they got married Leia is always receiving postcards from new places, keeping them in a special box in her bedroom closet. The newly received ones get to remain on the fridge since such a little thing is able to make her smile. Leia owns a motorcycle with a white paint job and always wears black gloves while riding. She has never left town except for a few vacations here and there. It isn’t enough to see more of the world which is an interesting contrast to her canon life where she traveled to other plants often. She likes to try finding the best spot in Decimation to look up at the stars when the sky is clear enough. She owns several large fish tanks, some displayed in her living room and the rest in one of the spare rooms of the home she’s living in. She’s passionate about taking care of them and can probably count how many people she trusts to look after them on one hand. Leia was considered to be a tomboy growing up and that remains true after all these years.
WHAT THEY’RE PLANNING TO DO IN DECIMATION: Leia is currently working at Night Moves Bar and Grill as a server and doesn’t have any plans to try leaving Decimation … not that she could, even if she tried! Watch out though, if you’re rude then she’ll definitely put you in your place. She’s not afraid to be outspoken. Leia plans on living her life as she thinks it has always been until something changes.

THE BASICS
NAME: padme naberrie amidala

AGE: 35
PRONOUNS: she/her
LAST KNOWN MEMORY: remembers nothing, because fuck what george lucas did to the badass mother of leia organa and luke skywalker, she deserves better.
ORIGINATION: star wars
FACECLAIM: natalie portman
THE DETAILS
FAMILY: ruwee naberrie (father), jobal naberrie (mother), sola naberrie (older sister)
THREE FAVORITE THINGS: unusual fashions and styles, old books, beach days.
EDUCATION: bachelor’s in political science (stanford university) JD (harvard law school).
SKILLS: debate and research skills, leadership skills, self defense.
HEADCANONS: from a young age, padme had an interest in politics. she didn’t care about going as far as becoming president, she didn’t care about being a senator or a diplomat... she just wanted to do the most she could for people, regardless of which title enabled her to do so. in high school, she threw herself into her studies and activities and was voted class president and most likely to succeed, graduating valedictorian of her class. she then went onto college where she did the same thing, then law school. harvard had been where padme truly thrived and if asked, the time that she’d call the best years of her life.  after graduating harvard, she spent some time in washington dc, where she saw firsthand just how corrupt the government was. there were those that had lost faith in and had seen it long ago, but the average person truly had no idea how bad it was. the way padme saw it, she could stay in washington, which she was beginning to see was far too corrupt at that point for just her to change... or she could go home and make change for the better back home to decimation, kansas. so after five years in washington, she ended up back home and became a lawyer and recently a judge.
WHAT THEY’RE PLANNING TO DO IN DECIMATION: padme is back where she believes to be home and since she returned, her discouragement is gone and she’s much happier working for her hometown versus in dc. currently she lives alone with her two cats.

Aesthetic: The Naberries of Naboo
The house that Padme Naberrie had grown up in was far from the capital of Naboo. Like most Naboo houses, it was made of stone and capped with domed roofs. Her father, Ruwee, had built it himself, before he became a lecturer at the university, and her mother had imbued the cold stone with that sense of place and time and belonging that true homes were founded on. - Queen’s Shadow, Chapter 19
He saw respect in Ruwee’s eyes, and gratitude, and he was glad for both. He could not deny the way Padme looked at her family, the love that seemed to flow from her whenever any of them entered the room, and he knew that if Ruwee or Jobal or Sola didn’t like him, his relationship with Padme would be hurt. - Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (Novelisation), Chapter 14
Previously: House Palpatine of Naboo

Padmé Naberrie - or Paola as she called herself for the last 23 years - has spent more than half her life at war. But this last year in particular, she has also been at war with herself. Ever since her conversation with Luke after they'd rescued him from Bespin, she has been been wrestling with what she knows she should feel, as a woman who has committed her life to the ideals of freedom, peace and justice, and what she actually does feel as a woman who knew the deepest, truest love for a few short years and never really got over its loss.
Seeing Luke in his hospital bed, flexing his new prosthetic hand, had been a shock to her system, both because he look so much like his father after Geonosis, and because he'd given her the news that Darth Vader had claimed to be his father. Luke had stared solemnly at her out of eyes that looked so like the husband she had mourned for two decades and declared that the Force told him what Vader claimed was true. She'd had no choice but to believe him.
Looking back, she's glad she had that time to come to terms with the reality of who Anakin had become. It's always been difficult for her to admit her real feelings when they conflict with what she believes is her duty, so it took her that long to admit to that she still loved him and wanted - no needed - to see him. Of course, hearing that he'd been the one to kill Palpatine, that he'd saved Luke's life, went a long way towards her ability to forgive him.
So there have been many things to adjust to recently, including living life as a civilian again. She is back on Naboo, in her parents' home, serving as their caretaker but also just relaxing, resting and healing. It's the first time she's felt able to breath, and the first time she's been home in far too long. They'd all burst into tears when she first appeared on her parents' doorstep. They'd believed the farce that she'd died 23 years ago, and she had never known their fate. Her life now consists of long talks at the kitchen table with Jobal and long walks in the garden with Ruwee. He's far too old now to properly care for his gardens, so the task has fallen to Padmé. She's been soaking up the sunshine just like the lotus she was named for, slowly coming back to life again.
And all along, she's been waiting, wondering. Did Anakin find the holoprojector she'd left on his hospital bedside? Did he ever watch it? If he did... was he ever coming to see her? And if he does.... what will she say to him? She still hasn't quite worked that out when, one soft spring morning, she hears the doorbell ring and just knows it's him. "I'll get it, Mom!" she calls out, hurrying to the front door. For just a second, she pauses and draws in a deep, steadying breath before she opens it. She stares at him for a long moment, her face frozen in a neutral expression while her eyes rove over him, taking in every detail and trying to convince herself that this is not a dream. "Hello.....," she manages to whisper as she steps aside to let him in.

MY LITTLE GIRL (Part 1)
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(22 BBY)
Ruwee Naberrie would do anything to keep his little girl from getting hurt. Even before his daughter Padmé became involved with politics, he still worried. He wasn’t ready to let his little girl grow up. And it wasn’t just about marriage or living on her own either.
(39 BBY, 17 years ago)
It was one summer afternoon and the Naberrie family was holding a small party for Padmé’s 7th birthday. At the time, 11 year old Sola was slouching as she jealously watched her sister open presents. “Wow! A toy starship! Thanks grandma Ryoo.” Little Padmé said in excitement and amazed while thanking one of her grandmothers. Padmé had opened about almost all of her presents, but apparently, her mother had a special birthday present hidden in the closet.
“Open it, honey. It’s from daddy and me.” Jobal told her youngest daughter.
Ruwee bit his lip as he watched Padmé opened the present. It was kind of big. At that last moment, Padme gasped as she figured out the reason why. It was a puppy. Padmé awed softly as she gently grabbed the little creature out of the box. “A puppy? He’s mine?” Padme squealed softly.
Jobal smiled and nodded. Ruwee didn’t like his wife’s idea though. Was their youngest daughter really ready for a pet?
While Padmé was still falling in love with the little mutt, Ruwee sighed and immediately took the dog out of his daughter’s arms. Everyone else, including Sola, stared in shock.
“Daddy? What are you doing?” Padmé wondered sadly.
“I’m taking him back. I don’t think you’re ready.” Ruwee replied.
“But daddy–” Padmé whimpered.
“I’m sorry, darling, but you’re not ready.” Ruwee said, not taking any buts for an answer.
A tear fell down Padmé’s face. Her father had never done anything like this on any of her birthdays. “I hate you.” She thought. She didn’t really want to admit it, but she did.

Moments
Moments, when Anakin Skywalker felt the pull of the Dark Side.  And one when he felt the Light shine through.
**Pre-hologram meeting “on” Kashyyyk.**
AO3
“Is it possible to learn this power?”
“Not from a Jedi.”
Anakin looked up to the Chancellor, his mentor, his friend.  A non-Force-sensitive being who knew Sith legends.
“How?”
“How what?” Was it his imagination, or did the Chancellor’s tone sour when questioned?  Anakin was well-versed in reading the tone of a person’s voice – the effects of slavery on a person never healed, not when one’s survival had once depended on certain skills.
“How do you know a Sith legend?  None of the Jedi, not even Master Yoda, are versed in these matters.”
“Oh,” the Chancellor waved a hand, “you tend to pick up bits and pieces over the years. You see, Anakin, it’s not how I know the story that’s important, it’s the story itself that matters.  It was only through understanding the Dark Side of the Force that Darth Plagueis was able to learn, and more importantly, use that power to save others… those he loved.”
“And yet his apprentice still killed him.  Chancellor, excuse my bluntness, but why are you telling me this?” Obi-Wan had sensed something in the Chancellor, had warned the Council about it.  Anakin’s stomach turned.  His master was right.  The Chancellor was up to something.
“Because I thought it was something you needed to hear, young Skywalker.  There is more to the Force, and indeed, to life, than what the Jedi will tell you.”
Anakin was quiet, watching the ballet with feigned interest.  It was a strange relationship, the friendship between a Jedi and the Chancellor of the Republic.  Anakin knew there was some truth in Obi-Wan’s mistrust of the Nabooian politician that went beyond a general distaste of politics.
 ROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTS
**Palpatine having just murdered Master Windu**
“What have I done?”  Anakin stumbled back, collapsing onto a stool, watching in disbelief as the Chancellor, the Sith Lord, rose from the ledge.
“You’re fulfilling your destiny, Anakin.”  The Chancellor advanced and Anakin bowed his head, trying to centre himself.  “Become my apprentice.  Learn to use the Dark Side of the Force.”
“No,” Anakin muttered, his resolve weakening as the Chancellor drew nearer.
“It can save her, as you failed to save your mother,” the Chancellor stopped mere feet away.  “Senator Amidala.”
“You can save Padmé?”  The words tumbled from Anakin’s mouth before he had the chance to think.  “I can’t live without her.”
“If we work together, I know we can discover the secret,” the Chancellor said. Anakin’s hand twitched as if to draw his lightsabre.  “Look at me, Anakin.  Would you really pull your weapon on an injured man?”  Anakin hesitated, then turned the laser sword on to the Chancellor’s throat.  “Come now, Anakin.”
“No.” The lightsabre was not still. “You may be injured, but I have no doubt that you’re still dangerous.  You will go before the Senate and revoke the emergency powers.  Then there will be a hearing.”
“On what charge?”  The Chancellor asked, his voice sickly.
“Corruption of the government.  Murder. And if the Senate does not convict you, the Council will.  Terribly flawed though they may be, the Jedi are still the keepers of peace in the galaxy.”
“Kill me, and your wife will die.  Oh, yes, Anakin.  I do know about your ‘secret’ marriage, on Naboo.  You went to the Lake Country, a beautiful spot no doubt.”
Anakin’s minded was nearly blinded by an onslaught of memories of Padmé.  “How do you know about Lake Country?  There was only myself, Padmé, and two droids present.”
“As I have already told you, Anakin, the Dark Side of the Force can lead to many open doors.  Join me.”
“You speak with great certainty with a lightsabre drawn on your throat,” Anakin’s voice was steady.
“Do it. Kill me and you will be forced to assume my place in the budding Empire.  Let me live, and you will be the second most powerful man in the galaxy.”
ROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTS
“I hate you!”
Obi-Wan Kenobi stared down at the smoldering man below.  “You’re my brother, Anakin.  I love you.”  Using the Force, Obi-Wan lifted Anakin from the molten rock.  “I love you, and I have failed you, and for that I am more sorry than you will ever know.”
“You took her from me!”
“Padmé? Anakin, she was terrified of you. There are limits to whom even the Chosen One can save!  She would rather die than have you like this!”
Obi-Wan’s phrasing drew Anakin from his rage.  “She’s alive?”  He rasped.
“Yes, of course, she’s alive,” Obi-Wan reached toward his brother.
“Help me,” Anakin rasped.  “Help me save Padmé’s life.  Senator Palpatine, he’s the Sith Lord.  He said,” he hesitated briefly, “he said that he could save her.”
“Anakin, I know that the Jedi, that I have failed you in the past.  I promise to do everything in my power to save Padmé.  She is a dear friend and,” Obi-Wan paused, clearly debating whether to continue, “and she’s told me the truth.”
The truth. Anakin didn’t know what the truth meant any more.
“The truth is that you and Padmé are in love and have been for nearly your whole lives,” Obi-Wan said gently.  “The truth is that you’re my brother and I have not supported you when you needed me. The truth is that Darth Sidious got into your head and manipulated you to suit his own needs.  The truth is that you are Anakin Skywalker, and you are a good person.”  Obi-Wan picked up Anakin’s fallen lightsabre and tucked it into his belt, before bending over his friend.  “The truth is that I hope we can save you, Anakin.”
ROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTSROTS
When Anakin awoke, he was naked.  His charred hand easily swept through the bacta, reaching desperately for his wife. Her name silently escaped his burned lips, air bubbles popping fiercely as they broke the tank’s surface.
Obi-Wan Kenobi lay a hand over the outside of the bacta tank.  When Anakin Skywalker had returned, so had Padmé’s life force. She had grown stronger as her due date neared, and she had cried with relief when her babies had been born alive and well.  Leia Amidala and Luke Skywalker were tiny and so quiet that Obi-Wan had been afraid if they didn’t lose Padmé and Anakin, they would lose the twins.
“Soon,” he quietly promised his brother.
Soon was relative.  Anakin’s burns were severe and no one quite understood how the true Sith Lord had manipulated Padmé’s life force to support him.  Padmé was on life support, improving every day, and Anakin spent more time in the bacta than out, healing his physical and emotional traumas. Obi-Wan spent his days and nights split into visiting each of the Skywalkers until, exhausted, he comm’ed for help.
It took two days for the Naberries to arrive from Naboo, five for the Larses to arrange passage and fly in from the Outer Rim.  Ruwee and Jobal immediately busied themselves with caring for the twins, being the only people in the facility who had experience with children. (They immersed themselves in their youngest grandchildren, with Sola and her children arriving later).
With six family members present, no Skywalker was ever uncared for.  Pooja and Ryoo Naberrie looked on in wonder as their grandfather rocked baby Leia to sleep.  Beru Lars learned to perfect heating a baby’s bottle and was the only one who could get Luke to stop fussing long enough to eat.  Obi-Wan Kenobi and Owen Lars took turns sitting up with Anakin, doing whatever they could to support their brother’s recovery, as Jobal and Sola Naberrie did with Padmé.
Eventually, Anakin Skywalker was released, emerging from the bacta tank a new man. His skin was badly scared, his hair patchy where it had been burned away, but he was healed enough that the med-droids released him.
“Padmé,” he gasped, his voice rough and scratchy from not having been used in so long.  He stepped forward and stopped, raising his robe from the floor to see the metal prosthetic leg.  Obi-Wan was at his side immediately.
“What do you remember?”
“The Chancellor…he’s the Sith Lord!”  Anakin said, the urgency in his voice only heightened by his concern for his wife.
“The Jedi have seen to his removal from office.  Anakin, what else do you remember?”  There was a sense of urgency underlying his friend and mentor’s calm.
“Padmé,” Anakin repeated.  “My dreams, they were like the ones about my mother,” his voice broke.  “And the baby.”
“The children are healthy.  Your families have been here, looking after them while you’ve been recovering.”
Children. He was a father.  He realized that Obi-Wan was still speaking.
“…didn’t know.  She named them.  Luke and Leia Naberrie-Skywalker.”  Anakin tried to lift his head, before realizing that of course they wouldn’t be waiting in the hospital room for him to wake up.  Obi-Wan must have sensed his thoughts, for he moved to the door.  A few minutes later, he re-entered the room with a woman he vaguely recognized as Padmé’s mother and a man he thought could have been Cliegg Lars’ son.  Anakin only had eyes for the blanket in Missus Naberrie’s arms.
“Anakin, this is Luke Naberrie-Skywalker,” Jobal said softly.  She brought his son closer, so close that Anakin could have reached out and touched him.  But he hesitated.  Luke was not the tiny newborn he had expected.  This baby was a few months old at the very least, with a mess of blonde hair on his head.  Jobal brought the blankets closer, and Anakin automatically took the baby.  His baby.  His son, little Luke Skywalker.  Something registered in his mind.
“Twins?”
His stepbrother entered the room, carrying another bundle of blankets.  “Leia Naberrie-Skywalker,” Owen laid the baby girl in Anakin’s free arm.  An arm that was made entirely of metal, much like his left hand.  That train of thought disappeared the moment that Leia’s large brown eyes looked into his own blue ones.
Tears were rolling down Anakin’s face when he finally looked away from his daughter. “Where is Padmé?”
“Recovering.  When you nearly died, so did she.  The two of you are linked, through the Force, Anakin.”  Obi-Wan rested his hand on Anakin’s shoulder.  “She is so strong.  Her doctor believes she will wake within the next few hours.”
“I need to see her.  I need to see Padmé,” Anakin stood, the twins still cradled in his arms.  Obi-Wan, already at his side, steadied him.
“Of course,” Obi-Wan said quietly.
There was an odd processional heading down the corridor, if anyone had paid any attention. A medical droid followed by a man clutching two tiny babies (a man unused to what were obviously new prosthetic limbs). Another slightly older man hanging on to the new father, physically supporting him.  His parents, and brother and sister.  (A family).
Anakin collapsed at his wife’s bedside.
“Padmé,” he murmured, laying his children on the bed beside their mother.
Obi-Wan watched with intrigue.  Against all odds, Padmé was beginning to stir.  The Force worked in mysterious ways, that much he knew, but to witness it in this way was completely new to him.
“Anakin?”  Though her voice was small and weak, there was no denying its power over the man kneeling at the woman’s side.
“Padmé.” Anakin’s head snapped up, his eyes feasting on the sight of his wife recovering.  Padmé’s hand moved, nearly imperceptibly, until it was resting on her husband’s head, buried in his hair.
“The twins?”  She breathed, feebly attempting to sit upright.  Her children were on either side of her and Anakin gently guided her hands so that they were touching them.
The Naberrie-Skywalker family was healing.  Together, as a family.  Anakin and Padmé.  Obi-Wan, and Ruwee and Jobal.  Owen and Beru.  Sola, Pooja, and Ryoo.  And perhaps the most important connection, Anakin and Padmé, and their children.
