I don't have a plot yet but I think it would be very funny to write a fic where I somehow zap the Lower Decks crew to Real-Life Riverside Iowa.
#it's star trek anthyding could hadplen#i feel like im 50+ years they must have done *some* kind of weird meta storyline about out universe#or idk maybe they left all that kind of meta to Galaxy Quest#anyway it would obviously be a sappy narrative about the power of science fiction to inspire humanity#but it would also feature:#Tendi trying to fend of questions from overeager cosplayers about how she got such even coverage with her body paint#Boimler having an existential crisis#Rutherford hotwiring some large piece of industrial farm equipment#and Mariner freaking out because yes they're back in time yes this is a universe where Starfleet isn't real#but most importantly they are in IOWA and they need to get OUT OF IOWA none of you are paying attention to the REAL problem here!#if i write it i will probably also find some way to incorporate the University of Iowa's fanzine collections because of course i will#lower decks#to boldly split infinitives
