I'm at a loss for coming up with a name for these thermogenic (color changing), glow in the dark holo-foil resin pendants. I've been working on rune sets (I burned through 12 molds in the past two weeks and had replacements ordered for today) and Mystery Box items almost exclusively for the past few weeks and had received a custom order from a woman who suggested creating bangle bracelets using holographic foil overlays or inclusions.
I had the materials laying around from some other projects, but I didn't want to copy cat the same technique she had shared with me so I experimented with using these holographic flame stickers I had laying around from doing nails back in cosmetology school. I often repurpose and recycle things like this, experimenting with these types of inclusions ultimately lead to the creation of my Elemental: Water and Elemental: Earth runes.
I am pretty happy with the results and even made a matching bangle to go along with these funky pendants. The combination of the metallic cellophane/foil and the gradual color changing effect as the thermogenic pigments react to various temperatures is amazing to watch with many different effects.
I'm partial to miniatures when it comes to my inclusions (if you couldn't tell from my other pieces). I really like how the larger pendant turned out and am considering offering some version of them in the shop in the near future
The glow effect on this one is so strong that it's even visible when in just low light.
I've also been experimenting with adding different effects to give a new take on the popular crystal 'bullet' pendant. This 7 Chakra pendant was created using Orgone theory and quite simply made, using natural crystal fragments in different varieties.
Lastly, (I have been quite busy) these handmade products were the most recent addition to the shop's listings. I often include my concoctions in my Mystery Boxes, but I've found that several people have been interested in and thought I would give them some spotlight to see how they do on their own.
City Witch Smudge was created from the remainder of my cleansing herb stash (Palo Santo, White Sage, Basil, Bay Leaf, Rosemary, Mint Leaf, Mugwort, Wormwood, Lavender, Jasmine & More) the majority of which I bottled portions out for spell kits and other Mystery Box endeavors. I tossed the lot of it in the kettle, allowed to steep in Moon Water for two hours before being bottled with Clear Quartz.
Just a few drops of Frankincense and Rosemary organic essential oils complete this Multipurpose spray which is ideal for those who are tired of burning dried herbs or smudges to regularly clean due to allergies or your living situation does not allow it. Due to the water infusion, you receive the full benefits of these cleansing components without a heavy lingering scent. I also will gladly modify this smudge spray upon request if you prefer the base without the essential oils.
Graveyard Dirt on the other hand, was my first perfected coffee scrub with a bit more of a kick in the form of lemon and mint. It may not look super appealing, but, well, at least YOU will after using it. This smudge spray, scrub, and a few other new additions to the shop under the new section 'Modern Apothecary' are currently on sale for everyone to give them a shot for the duration of this month!
There is much more, though I don't think I can fit much more into this post.
You can check out the items mentioned here on my Etsy shop blursedbaubles.etsy.com and other handmade one of a kind and spiritually inspired creations.

“There is no life I know to compare with pure imagination. Living there, you’ll be free, if you truly wish to be.”
- Pure Imagination
Real Name: Catriona “Cat” Walsh Age: 20 FC: Saoirse Ronan Species & Class: Specter Bard Guild: Moonstone
Description of In-Game Powers: Specters are Gem Quest’s non-corporeal undead player race. They’re notable for only having 9 stats instead of 10, with Strength being omitted from their stat lineup because they literally have no physical bodies. Instead, their Willpower stat serves as their Strength equivalent. This means they have a rechargeable meter of how much they can possibly interact with physical objects before taking a rest or recharging with a spell or potion. Beyond that, Specters are distinguished by their inability to be damaged by non-magical weapons, increased susceptibility to light magic, and inability to be healed via healing potions or traditional physical healing spells (only a period of rest or spells/potions aimed at restoring mental wellness can heal them). The non-magical weapon immunity is amazing lower levels, but it’s not long before everything thrown at you seems to be enchanted or blessed or cursed or whatever. Weirdly enough, as far as the whole “incorporeal being” conceit is taken in other aspects, Specters can indeed take potions, as well as eat and drink. They get decreased buffs from some potions and foods, though. To balance this out, spells that provide small buffs and aren’t explicitly light-aligned are extra effective on them.
There’s a lot of frustration with the class because of its “fake” weapon resistance, since any old dagger with any mild enchantment or magical effect at all on it can hit them. They can’t viably hit physical things in combat without specifically taking Knight, Rogue, Rider, or Mage-Knight as their class. And even then, they’re arguably the weakest race choice in the game for non-magical melee combat. Meanwhile, a lot of physical things and all magic can still hit them very hard very easily.
All of this said, there ARE skills to really like here, too - namely, superb mobility. Specters can pass through physical materials five feet thick or thinner as long as those materials aren’t specifically enchanted to prevent phasing. They float slightly by default and have a rechargeable flight ability that allows them to lift much further off the ground in short bursts. They also have a rechargeable ability (with more uses per charge than flight) that allows them to teleport from where they stand to any spot they can see within 20 feet without a spell as long as they haven’t been hit with an attack in the past 5 seconds. This gives them excellent mobility even in the heat of battle and allows them to have a lot of control over their position and angle. It also means that it’s often smarter for them to worry less about defense than about being hard to hit in the first place.
Place of Birth: Dublin, Ireland
Appearance: Ophelia has a Specter’s signature slightly translucent skin, under-saturated color palette, and skirt hem/legs that trail off into mist. Her eyes are a stormy gray, and her wardrobe is almost exclusively black and white. When it comes to fashion, she prefers some of the more dark Victorian-inspired looks in the game as opposed to the high fantasy, renaissance, or medieval looks that a lot of other characters favor. That said, she’s got a pretty extensive and well-curated wardrobe behind her. She considers it highly important that she have at least one appropriate black and white ensemble to wear in each and every level in order to fit in with the theme. That said, she also has her own signature look that she uses as her “default” (the outfit she’s wearing in her pic at the top of her audition - full-body edit to be shared later!). Oh, and she loves gloves and capes. LOVES THEM. And kind of hoards them, tbh.
Places Most Likely to be Found In-Game: Ophelia’s favorite haunt at the moment is the City of Magic in Level 11. It’s the logical home base for a character who’s both a crafting/magical class AND a ghost. There’s a high enough concentration of both useful items and ingredients AND sufficiently gothic-flavored areas and NPCs to suit all her needs, both practical and aesthetic. She’s set up her own little shop in one of the many background spooky haunted house locations within the shadier-looking part of the city, and her Aesthetic demands she sometimes hangs out at the city’s main graveyard.
Beyond that, she can sometimes be found in various libraries and shops across the levels she can access, looking for interesting bits of crafting knowledge, hints of new items she could try cobbling together, and items that she could modify or combine with something to make can even more useful item. She’s also been known to turn up in random wilderness or roadway portions of levels in the first half of the game, foraging for crafting components that grow or randomly generate within those environments.
Current Inventory:
Screaming Lute (x1): Ophelia is very, exceedingly proud of her combat lute. She crafted it herself out of her bardic starter instrument. Specter Bards begin the game with an instrument they are capable of interacting with consistently. Cat has decided that, within Ophelia’s story, this was Ophelia’s lute in life, and it was destroyed shortly before her death as a way of intimidating her. Anyhow, Ophelia has heavily modified her starting weapon to the point that she thinks of it as an entirely new item. It’s covered in strange etched carvings and shifts between glowing with an eerie red light from the inside and constantly trailing wisps of white smoke. She uses it as her primary weapon in the game, as strumming specific notes and chords on the lute lights up some of the etchings and fires off various spells and magical effects and spells Ophelia has been able to learn. The lute downright shrieks whenever she uses it to cast a spell. How does it work, you might ask? That is a very long story, and one I’m saving for another post XD Most of the spells Ophelia has at her disposal are cast through her rune-covered lute and will be catalogued in her lute info.
Whispering Flute (x1): Ophelia likes rhymes and the aesthetics of symmetry. A secondary combat and utility weapon of hers, this is a flute enchanted to fire off up to three charges of Ventium per day, and one charge of Murmurationium per day. A good insurance weapon to sneak into a dangerous social situation, as it’s a perfectly normal and usable flute until she uses it to unleash the fury of the cold cruel winds of death upon you XD
Empty Unbreakable Bottle (x5): Ophelia favors magical items strongly because Specters can interact with non-martial ones automatically, without having to expend any extra effort or have at least X amount of Willpower to do so. Unbreakable Bottles are the cheapest magical container commonly for sale in game that’s capable of reliably holding liquids, so Ophelia likes to store all liquids important to her in them. And she likes to have at least a couple of empty ones on her at all times in case she wants to take a sample of something or otherwise just needs one.
Unbreakable Bottle of Rune Ink (x5): Rune Ink is an item that can be used as permanent and unfading ink that’s nigh impossible to remove or cover up. More importantly, though, it allows a PC with knowledge of the game’s runes, basically a language of magic that appears in a level or two and on some items, to write runic symbols that absorb nearby magical energy and store it within the object with runes written on it.
Enchanted Carving Tools (x1): Basic carving tools, enchanted to be able to create magical items and inscriptions. Ophelia uses them for crafting both magical and non-magical items, since any given item needs to be enchanted for her to be able to actively use it for long stretches of time anyway.
Enchanted Mending Kit (x1): Enchanted mending/tinker’s tools able to repair magical items without damaging their magical properties. Ophelia uses these to repair any repairable item sent her way, for the same reason she also uses enchanted carving tools for everything.
Paxanimi Potion (x3): A potion that mitigates psychic damage or corruption and provides a temporary boost to a player’s Psyche stat. For Ophelia, as a Specter, this is the closest thing she gets to a reliably available health potion.
Psychometry Scroll (x1): Allows caster to make one inquiry about the past of an object or place, then projects a scene or quote from the object’s or place’s history that provides a relevant answer to that question into the caster’s mind. Without crafting very specific questions, the results can often be vague and unhelpful, as the game will take the path of least resistance in providing a vision that meets the requirements of the inquiry.
Ictuium Scroll (x1)
Second Sight Scroll (x1) (Learning)
Assorted Random Crafting Bits and Scraps
She actually has more inventory kept hidden away within her home base rather than coming with her everywhere. Most of it is just more tools and materials and many, many changes of clothes.
“How much does it weigh? Can I touch, smell, and taste it? Can I put it in my inventory? Is it magical? Is it combustible? How many knowledge checks can I roll on it? Does it match my outfit? Can I keep it?” - Catriona, literally every time she sees any new item in D&D
Strongest character trait: Imagination
Strengths: Ophelia is an immensely imaginative and resourceful person who comes to Gem Quest from a background of extensive fiction reading and making famously effective TTRPG characters. It helps that she researched Gem Quest *extensively* before starting and continued to be active in forums and the GQ Wiki right up through getting stuck, along with getting early advice and support from a beta tester acquaintance. Her ideas are typically wildly innovative and a bit risky, but to her credit, they pay off more often than not. She’s slow to trust others with much critical personal information, but pretty open to giving others a chance and to judging people based on her own experience rather than on gossip. Thinking on her feet is second nature to her, and she’s rarely at a loss for ideas. Her devotion to her character and planned story arc have helped her to maintain a degree of focus and stability that’s thus far proven to be her most valuable coping mechanism.
She’s generally friendly and pleasant despite her spooky aesthetic, story, and demeanor, and she will genuinely try to help anyone who asks her for it. In business and in social encounters, Ophelia is considerate, well-mannered, and often downright chatty, though she usually knows to take a hint when people make it clear that they don’t want to talk. She makes and offers a selection of odd but useful items at very fair prices because she’s not here to make a profit - she just needs enough resources to keep going. She’s earned a bit of good will based on that. Her skill in puzzle and strategy-based quests and willingness to dispense hints on the above, along with her crafting, has garnered her a good reputation as a support player and PC shopkeeper within her guild.
Weaknesses: Even knowing that the game is now a matter of life and death, Ophelia still seems to care more about her in-game narrative and goals than practicality, survivability, or winning. A vibrant creative type who wishes no irl harm to anybody, she has a hard time conceiving that even the most blatantly destructive PCs would truly do harm to anyone outside the narrative. She catches most of the references you make and then obnoxiously, steadfastly denies that she has caught them if you inquire, because Star Wars doesn’t exist in the world of Gem Quest and of Ophelia, dammit! While her coping methods might be working for her internally for now, her devotion to staying in-character makes her a bit of an acquired taste. She is very, very particular about sticking to character, even when it’d be more practical and less annoying for her to drop it. She’s been known to make important decisions that risk her safety (and sometimes, indirectly, that of others) in the name of “authenticity” to her character and story plans.
Far, far too curious and adventurous for someone with a Defense stat of 2. She has lots and lots of interesting ideas, all of which she gives equal chance to, plenty of which aren’t good. Just because her creative ideas pay off more often than not doesn’t mean that there aren’t times when they don’t pay off. And when they don’t pay off, they tend to not pay off SPECTACULARLY. Reasonably likely to get herself killed enacting some inventive and exceedingly high-risk scheme to take out a dangerous boss before it can do damage.
For some folks, the mix of creepy aesthetics and backstory and acting choices with effusive goodwill and pleasantness is more off-putting than inviting. Arguably talks too much, especially when she’s nervous or upset. Has a weakness for getting emotionally involved with NPCs, particularly minor NPCs with chains of side quests or that can serve as temporary companions, despite theoretically knowing that they’re just chunks of code. Seems physically incapable of just sitting back and relaxing for a few without having to start some new project or come up with some new big subplot or plan.
Plenty of folks are happy to buy her crafted items, but she has a bad reputation as an active combatant due to a few infamous Incidents. At this point, only the truly uninformed, the truly desperate, the truly experimental, or the truly crazy in Moonstone would willingly party up with her XD
“Death has made me less than kind. And very, very creative with a broken lute, who knew?” - Ophelia
Player Stats: Ophelia’s defensive strategy in combat is just to not be hit at all. Her Defense stat is dangerously low, with any points that could buff it up as she’s gained levels and experience instead going to Agility and Luck. She prefers to draw her “defense” from stats that she can get more versatile use out of. She’s unusually low in Charisma for a Bard and has only enough Willpower to allow her to craft with physical items. She can’t wield non-magical weapons at all. However, she opted to invest a bit more in Psyche than a lot of other players did since a lot of a Specter’s durability lies in their emotional stability. She also has uncommonly high Intelligence, which combines with her Psyche and Luck to equip her well for puzzle-based and strategy-based challenges.
STRENGTH: X
DEFENSE: 2
CHARISMA: 6
PSYCHE: 7
WILLPOWER: 7
CAUTIOUSNESS: 4
AGILITY: 8
ENDURANCE: 5
INTELLIGENCE: 9
LUCK: 8
Personality: (A lot of this is already in her strengths and weaknesses, so I’m putting a bit of a summary and some extra detail in here.)
She eats fictional media for breakfast, means well, talks a lot and talks often, has an overall spooky quirky nice one vibe (you know the type), fancies herself an actress regardless of the feedback she might receive, will (un)live and die in-character out of a fruity cocktail of artistic integrity and spite, is the Bard equivalent of a TV mad scientist who tends to cause the problem at the start of the episode with an experiment and then solve it in the last 2 minutes with a crazy genius plan that’s then shown to have not *totally* worked in a post-episode stinger, and is too smart for anyone’s good.
Building a clear narrative here helps her bring some degree of organization and order to the wild creative whirlpool that is her brain. She’d never considered herself much of an escapist until she discovered GQ, where she hasn’t escaped from responsibilities and work and struggle so much as she’s found an intoxicating degree of control over what her responsibilities and work and struggle are. She can write a meaningful story here, be its central driving force, have the impact she increasingly feels like she’ll just never be able to have in real life, and stick her epic quest out to a glorious conclusion. Ironically, she’s a weird mix of always needing an outline and a sense of narrative while ALSO constantly bursting with new ideas and clever but risky plans that she takes quite seriously. Cat harbors perpetual mild guilt for feeling so restless and unhappy - after all, she’s lived comfortable life and has a family who loves, and it’s not like people have to like anything she makes or does or says in order for her to have a high quality of life.
“Think you're escaping and run into yourself. Longest way round is the shortest way home.” - James Joyce
Biography: Catriona Walsh was born in Dublin, Ireland to an Irish mother and an American father of Irish descent. The family moved to New York City for her father’s job when she was just 5, but she and her mom remain close with her mom’s side of the family back in Ireland. After 3 years in New York, the family moved to Columbus, Ohio, where Cat spent the rest of her young life, except for summers. Most summers since she was 13, she’s stayed a couple months with an aunt and uncle who own a small tour company in Dublin. From 16 on, she’s been helping with business while there. Now she’s at college in Dublin and working at the company on the weekends, in exchange for staying with her relatives. She’s studying business for her parents and literature for herself.
Cat has always had a great fondness for the tour company, though mostly for the actual tour guide end of it. She’s a natural storyteller and explorer who delights in going off the beaten trail and sharing all she knows about xyz subject with anyone who seems interested. Unfortunately, her improvisational bent has landed her in trouble with her aunt and uncle more than once. There are schedules to keep and itineraries people pay to be taken through, after all. This landed her behind the front desk of the office answering phone calls and administering group ticket sales, which she very nearly hates.
School is hard, especially with her true interest pushed to the side by necessity. Feeling like none of her ideas ever get taken seriously is hard. Making friends that last beyond one semester sharing a class is hard, and as she gets further into her college career, her future looks increasingly stifled and bleak to her. Attempts to get some poetry and original music off the ground haven’t gone anywhere, ending in some spikes of faceless nastiness that prompted her to delete her one YouTube account and take a step back from social media about a year and a half ago. Sure, she knows she’s supposed to have a thicker skin than that if she wants to go anywhere, and she *does* want to go somewhere. But she can’t seem to make her skin much thicker. She wants to argue with her uncle and aunt a bit more, as she increasingly disagrees with them on quite a few things, but they’re both extremely conflict averse, and she can be extremely lacking in tact about things she’s suitably worked up over.
Through it all, she knows full well that so so many people have it worse, and that she has no reason to feel restless and dissatisfied and unhappy. It’s just that she has a hard time connecting with people and feeling heard. She’s not alone, so why is she lonely? Cat takes refuge in being the zany, intensely individualistic artist who’s sometimes worth inviting to a party for the interest value and who surely has friends somewhere - you just haven’t ever met them.
For the past year or so, all the time Cat has for herself and an increasing amount of time that used to go into schoolwork has been split between her long-time refuge in tabletop roleplaying and her new favorite place: Gem Quest. She’s part of two Dungeons & Dragons games currently being run on Roll20 (well, was a part of them, anyway), both of which she plays as a multiclassed build with some degree of casting put together for a mix of strong utility and intricate storytelling. Gem Quest continues a years-long trend of being in love with exactly one fantasy video game at a time and playing it as much as possible, though it’s her first MMORPG.
Catriona researched Gem Quest *extensively* before ever getting it or creating her character. She heard about it from a fellow member of one of her online D&D groups, an avid gamer happened to be a beta tester. Cat was drawn in by the idea of being able to entirely occupy the space of a created hero within a sprawling fantasy setting and be a version of herself designed as a protagonist in a world designed to be impacted by her. She had a cousin who had a VR headset but decided it just wasn’t really his thing, so it wasn’t hard to convince him to let her use it for this. After waiting to see more setting and story info during the early general release and researching everything there was to know about GQ thus far, including via discussion with her beta tester acquaintance, she entered into the game a short while after launch. She’s had time to level up, mostly in being an item crafter and utility character with a surprising capacity to serve as a highly mobile glass canon blaster (and inexhaustible source of very creative and very insane plans) in combat.
She also has a whole, novella-length backstory for her character - a summary of which I will post later! - that she treats as her character bible and guide for all in-game interactions. It’s based on a single image of a skeleton in a black and white dress in some official art of one of the higher levels where there are a lot of scenic skeletons lying around. This is the sort of brain Cat has XD
Ophelia, as a character, is the ghost of a minor noblewoman and court musician who was betrayed when she starting poking around into the disappearance of her older brother at court. Her desires to find her brother and for vengeance brought her back as a Specter, but she came back a world away from the place she died and has to go on a quest to make it back and finish her story. Cat built the character to be tied to a mid-to-late game puzzle-heavy level so she could have a big climatic Moment there. Then, she’d continue to the end in search of her fictional brother. Ophelia wields a spectral lute as a spellcasting focus and spends a lot of time pursuing leads about both her brother and her murderer (aka quests Cat finds thematically/aesthetically good for Ophelia).
Cat is VERY set on seeing this plot through and being the hero of her story, from start to finish, despite what’s happening with the game now. She does her part to provide puzzle guides and crafting support for those working to beat the game, but she’s not going to rush through her story and suddenly snap back to being poor little ungrateful and inexplicably depressed Cat who has no place in anything and can’t do anyone much good with what she’s got. While she’s in the game, she’s going to be Ophelia. At least Ophelia has a *reason* to be unhappy and restless, a wildly creative and wildly striving brain tied to the world with a few wisps of smoke. And at least Ophelia is good at what she does.
Never mind how much she adored aggressive exploration and creative combat at first. She’s learned well enough that she’s just a liability there, she’s bad at being in a group, and, not so different from real life, she’s at her best when she’s just at the shop counter being support. She’s already been booted from a couple of parties over her crazy plans, play style, and general personality. And there have been more than enough incidents with her pulling something crazy because it was in-character and genuinely seemed like a good solution with the resources given, usually with at least decent results but always with high risk, that no one in the know is willing to party up with her anymore.
She’s kind of stuck either in her shop or going solo. At least she makes good things, though, right? And she’s just taking her plot slow because of she’s savoring and developing her story, not because people don’t really like conquering life beside her out here either, right?
Right?
Relationships: I’m very much open to some plotting and planning with anyone who’d like to try working something out!
In regards to side characters or such of my own, I have some ideas already for this. I’ll fill these in as I finalize my ideas a bit more!

El’s Salem, Ma Shopping Guide
Where to Shop
As a disclaimer, you can almost certainly find anything in a Salem shop online for cheaper. The appeal of shopping in Salem is assisting small business owners, many of which are women and also witches. I also find that shopping for supplies in physical stores strengthens my connection to them. Most of these places do have online shops too though, so I linked them.
Best for Herbs: Artemisia Botanicals This store is an herb lover’s dream. They have just about everything, in alphabetical order, sold by the ounce (weighed). By far the cheapest herb shop in Salem, and honestly, one of the cheapest I’ve ever found. The older woman running this shop is delightful. Plus, unlike the herbs sold by many places both in Salem and online, their herbs are (usually) food safe. Artemisia’s also sell a variety of tea blends and tea accessories. They also sell a huge selection of oils. Like most stores in Salem they sell candles, altar supplies, books, etc. But their herbs are really where it’s at. Avoid: Their tiny stone collection is over priced and not very good. Better to skip. *They also do tea leaf reading and Tarot reading. This is the only place I get my tarot read in Salem.
Runner Up: The Coven’s Cottage, The Cauldron Black
Best for Stones/Crystals: Pyramid Books This shop has an excellent variety of both tumbled stones, crystal points, and other specimens. And their prices are the most reasonable I’ve found in Salem, and even occasionally online. They also sell some carved stone pieces, gem boards, and a large selection of books on stones. Aside from crystals/stones they sell a huge assortment of altar goods and decorative objects, and of course, books. Avoid: They sell some Native American inspired stuff, and I haven’t been able to ascertain if it’s by/from Native peoples.
Best for Candles: Witch City Wicks Okay, these aren’t necessarily spell candles, but most stores sell the same assortment of those. However these are handcrafted candles that smell divine. For when you want a witchy atmosphere, more than to cast a spell. Although there is no reason their candles couldn’t be used in spells. The also have a small assortment of witch supplies. If you’re into prints the do have limited edition prints by local artists.
Runner Up: Artemisia Botanicals
Best for Crafts: Circle of Stitches This is a witchy bent knitting and needle crafts store, with a small collection of other items. It has such a positive energy. If you’re into needle crafts, want to pick up a newer tarot deck, or need a new enamel pin this is the place. I love the bright open store, and every sales associate has just been lovely. It’s the type of place you can take a crafty, but not witchy friend. This store also carries limited edition prints by local artists and jewelry. Avoid: They have some beautiful stones and crystals, but the price is a bit high. Runner Up: Honestly nothing. This place is truly unique in Salem.
Best for Books: Pyramid Books Yup, this place is on the list twice. Their collection of books is the largest and most up to date and diverse in Salem, that I’ve found at least.
Runner Up: Wicked Good Books, Witch City Wicks for a small collection of recent publications
Best Modern: HausWitch So the modern witch movement, is definitely different from the witch movement of the 90s, and this store reflects that. They have household goods, including cleaning products that are witch inspired/herbal infused. They have candles. They have stones, They have local art and zines, which are very nice. They have a great selection of tonics and skin care. Avoid: Everything here is pricey, particularly their stones and jewelry, and there is definitely a bougie feel to the place.
Runner Up: Circle of Stitches
Best Traditional: The Coven’s Cottage This store is an experience. The owners are a couple who follow either Norse Wicca or Asatru. The store is one of the most gorgeous stores I’ve ever been in. They are strict about no cellphones and no photography, you will be asked to leave if you have your phone out. They also sometimes close for lunch during busy days, mostly I think to straighten the store and get a break. Sometimes people leave bad reviews for these reason, which is nuts. They have a large selection of herbs, including beautiful dried herb bundles. They have a lot of locally made statues for altars. They have a little bit of everything to be honest. They have a lot of resources that focus on coven and group work. I don’t always buy things at this store, but I love to visit it.
Runner Up: The Cauldron Black
Honorable Mentions: The Cauldron Black This is a newer shop that’s very similar to some of the more standard Salem Witch Shops, but in being newer I feel their selection is a bit better (they have very modern jewelry and clothes), they have very nice Rune Sets, and they have a much larger herb collection than most shops. They also have a variety of classes and events, although I’ve not attended any. They have a great selection of altar tools.
Best Avoided: Hex, Omen, Enchanted, Crow Haven Corner. These places are the main 4 ‘witch’ shops in town and they all sell basically the exact same things. In fact three of them (hex, omen, and crow haven) are owned by the same people. They’re always packed with tourist, their prices are high, their goods are sometimes of not the greatest quality, and they really overcharge for psychic readings compared to other places in town. That being said, Omen does have a fantastic assortment of Tarot and Oracle cards, and a great selection of books. And Crow Haven is the oldest witch shop in town and very fun to look around in. Enchanted sells a lot of really nice spell kits.

Review: Dragon Age Origins
Sorry for the delay! For some reason I found this one challenging to write and it took a few extra days to get out. Sorry about that.
Dragon Age Origins
Release: 2009
My Rating: 8.5/10
I’ve taken to saying that if you get four dragon age fans together none will agree on which of the three Dragon Age games is the best. Where Bioware’s Mass Effect series nailed its tone and gameplay the first time out and continued to refine it over the next couple of games (Andromeda excluded) the studio’s Dragon Age series reinvented itself with each core entry to considerable uproar every time. Yet, somehow, the series retained a core fanbase and a through line based more on their engrossing world than any continuous story.
The original version of this game launched in 2009 on PC and was later ported to consoles following the game’s success. Unfortunately, the game’s mechanics just weren’t built with controllers in mind and though playable when ported, were awfully clunky. Thus the PC version remains the ideal way to play this game. This is especially true now that the Ultimate Edition, which comes with all of the DLC alongside the base game, can be regularly purchased for under ten dollars on sale.
Bioware’s roots as a Dungeons and Dragons RPG maker are on proud display in Dragon Age Origins, which feels and plays a lot like a tabletop RPG campaign. The player takes the role of the Grey Warden, a protagonist whose gender, face, race (as in human, dwarf or elf) and starting class (warrior, rogue or mage) they can mix and match to their hearts content. These choices will land the character in one of six backstories that are all gristly, tragic and end with them fleeing for their lives. They are then rescued by Duncan, a knight of the Grey Warden Order, who shelters them on the condition they join the order and travel with him to fight the ‘Blight’ brewing in the distant south of the land. The Warden agrees and off they go, collecting party members along the way.
Unfortunately, disaster strikes and what was to be a glorious victory against the Blight, an army of totally-not-orcs called Darkspawn and the undead dragon leading them, instead turns into a massacre. The newly recruited Warden and a few allies are all that survive of the order. With the blight still threatening to burn and pillage through the defenseless kingdom of Ferelden the Warden decides to raise their own army to counter the threat and do their duty. Meanwhile, the order has been framed for the murder of the king, loss of the army and the political strife tearing the country apart.
With that, the player is sent off on their journey with a checklist of potential supporters to visit and request aid of. This amounts to four initial core quests to complete as well as a bevy of side-quests to be discovered via becoming close to party members, speaking to NPC’s and several organizations the Warden can choose to help. While most of the side quests amount to fetch or hunting quests they’re all dressed up nicely with supporting story, unique and challenging enemies (including all the hardest encounters of the game) as well as ample reward that makes them feel like a natural part of the game rather than padding. Meanwhile, the story quests have entire regions with multiple levels tied to them and their quest chains. Each story feels unique, engaging and encapsulated. Choice is a major aspect of any Bioware game and Dragon Age does an excellent job of making those choices feel like they matter and impact the end of the game (even if the ending is mostly decided in the final hours). However, the choices the Warden makes in the story quest will effect who comes into power during the civil war, which people will or won’t join the Warden’s party and what kind of hero the Warden is perceived as.
Unlike in Mass Effect Dragon age doesn’t have a black and white morality system, but rather reflects moral and political allegiances that other characters will react to. While it’s possible to recruit every single character no matter what choices the player makes they may not like the Warden’s choices, which makes befriending them harder. Likewise the player’s choices will inevitably cause them to gain one advantage at the cost of another, especially during the pivotal moments of the game. Unfortunately most of the choices do have an answer that’s more objectively ‘right’ than another, though most could be interpreted with equal weight in the culture of the game world. For example, the player isn’t going to have a cultural stigma against elves, magic or anything else that doesn’t exist in our world but conflicts will be presented on the assumption the character that they’re playing does. Incidentally, the Warden’s race and class also make a massive difference in how they’re treated, and the options for responses they have in certain situations. This makes roleplaying a character very immersive and engrossing, but can be a bit of a let down for those who don’t get as deeply invested in their characters and the world of the game.
The Warden will come across and have the option to recruit up to eight party members in the base game (the Stone Prisoner DLC adds a ninth). Some join the party of their own volition, but others have short quests or pivotal decisions that influence their willingness to come along. These followers each fall into the three base classes of mage, warrior or rogue but have their own unique specializations and abilities that give them each a unique combat style that can be tweaked to the player’s liking. Of these characters three will be willing to develop a romantic relationship with the Warden, though the options of who will vary with which gender of Warden is being played. Luckily, there are two bisexual characters so if the player wishes to pursue a same-sex relationship they can.
Each companion has an approval rating that represents how friendly they feel toward the Warden. Higher ratings will impart increasing stat bonuses to the companion in combat. This rating goes up and down in response to the Warden’s actions, conversations had with the Warden in the party’s camp and via gifts that are found in the world and matched to the correct recipient. If the player reaches about 50% approval, or fulfills certain conditions, the party member will approach the Warden with a special quest. Completing that quest will impart a massive approval bonus and cement that character’s loyalty. On the flipside low approval could result in party members choosing to abandon the party or even turn on the Warden at pivotal moments.
The gameplay is built around the hub of the party camp, which can be accessed from the world map. Here the warden can talk to the companions, use runes they find to enchant their weaponry and visit the merchant that follows the party around (which they’ll need to do often as the small inventory is prone to filling up). Upon leaving the player will head a party of themself and three additional party members. They will then select a destination on the world map and travel there. Almost always this is associated with a random encounter or a cutscene detailing events going on elsewhere in the world. If it wasn’t so consistent this feature would be annoying. However, as it can be anticipated, and there is a good mix of combat and story-encounters the random encounters aren’t particularly awful… though some are cripplingly hard. Some quest threads can’t even be encountered without traveling with specific party members, which again sounds worse than it is, because gameplay encourages swapping party around, the player will be returning to the world map and traveling on it often and because the story encounters almost always appear once the correct conditions for them have been met.
Combat, however, can be a bit of a grind in and of itself. Each character can be equipped with four pieces of armor, four accessories and two sets of weapons. Matching pieces of armor confers a stat bonus, accessories can provide noticeable resistances to certain kinds of damage or confer stat bonuses and there’s an abundance of ranged and melee weapons to choose from. Add to that a system of specialization and ability chains that add a plethora of options, increase party members skill with certain weapons and the fact that the mage’s talents are designed to be stacked and used in clever ways to exploit bonuses as well as keep the party… and thing get very micromanagement heavy very fast.
Dragon Age includes a system by which the player can go in and customize multiple sets of preferred behaviors for each character so that they don’t have to pause and switch characters as much on the fly. However, these behaviors basically amount to tiered if-then instructions that don’t always have the desired finesse, often activate in undesirable ways and without careful management might end up making things worse. Additionally, while the player can tailor different sets of behaviors for long battles, bosses or swarms of enemies they still have to go into a sub menu to switch these out, which defeats the purpose somewhat. For most players what ends up happening is that they find out who they can tailor to be self-sufficient, and whose abilities they need to micromanage (usually the party’s mages). Using a special ability depletes stamina and also has a short cooldown time. While stamina and health regenerate over time, it isn’t fast enough to keep up with the pace of comba so extended battles easily turn into white-knuckled slug fests. The player can craft or purchase health potions and potions to restore magical stamina, but rogues and warriors who run out of stamina are simply out. Meanwhile, if an ally runs out of HP and is KO’d they are out for the duration of the battle (with the exception of a high level healing spell with a very long cooldown). They’ll wake after the battle with an ‘injury’ that will impart a stat penalty until the player uses an injury kit to cure it or returns to the party camp. These injuries will stack, which can make party members all but useless in a long dungeon crawl without significant backtracking or resource management.
The game encourages using a range of close and ranged combat, however, bows can’t be enchanted and often miss without the character being specialized in them specifically, so that quickly falls by the way-side. Likewise, for melee warriors weapons exist on a scale of sharp and accurate swords down to unwieldy hammers that are ideal for smashing armored enemies. This is good in theory but in practice is impractical. Switching like this necessities micromanagement again, and giving over precious inventory space to additional weapons when it’s already being choked with crafting items and good equipment the characters aren’t strong enough to equip yet. And all this is with the ability to map character abilities to keyboard buttons and use the mouse to accurately zoom out and survey the battlefield from certain angles (oh, and also hold down the tab key to identify hard to see items like loot or readable books). Doing this on a console is even more eye-twitch inducing.
That all said, there’s something about Dragon Age’s combat that’s endearing. There’s something so satisfying about finally leveling up enough to equip the Legendary Sword of Legend or trying some hair-brained combination of obscure abilities and have them produce dramatic results. In the end, the system wears the minutia focused style of old Dungeons and Dragons like a badge of honor and did its best to recreate that in a game. This comes with a steep learning curve, but it eventually levels off and the player falls into a rhythm that will carry them through all but the hardest encounters.
There’s so much more to be said about this game. It packs so much content into a game that’s ultimately not technically that long that it’s a little mind boggling. What Dragon Age lacks in gameplay and interesting visual design it makes up with in world building, compelling stories, interesting and beloved characters and climatic scenes with emotional payoffs that feel powerful and meaningful. Ultimately, Dragon Age is a great game that is only just beginning to really show the wear of its age. It also set an incredibly solid and tantalizing foundation for the future of its world and thus the Dragon Age franchise.

I had been wanting to make an elemental tile set for a while and finally just went ahead and made the first design samples in between orders yesterday. These runes may be placed on your altar or used during the invocation of elements or for divination.
They are made from non toxic art resin and hand painted / designed using alcohol ink, dried flowers/paper flowers (Earth) and mica pigments. I considered adding some little fishes to the Water tile and may still offer that as a variation if anyone is interested. You may find this new rune set on sale for the next two days in my shop! If you use the link below, you will also receive a promo code for an additional $5 off your cart subtotal of $20.00+
Also, I still have plenty of items for anyone interested in an intuitively chosen witchy mystery box that includes my own hand crafted items, herbs / Botanicals, altar and spell supplies, and more (see listing details for all items included)
I have seen MANY other mystery boxes that follow the same theme and I can promise you that you will receive ABSOLUTELY NO:
•Bath bombs (sorry if you actually wanted bath bombs, but I don't make them and therefore will not select them for your box)
•Stickers, Pins, and Other "Filler"- Whether you choose 5, 10, 15, or 20+ items for your mystery box, I will never fill your mystery box with useless filler. My decision to offer these mystery boxes came from a place of love and need- I have so many of my own handmade creations (Talismans, thermogenic crystals, beaded jewelry, spell beads, crystal jewelry, pendants, trays, wands, candles, pendulums / divination tools, beauty masks, soaps, scrubs, and more) that I either had listed for some time and they didn't sell or I never got around to listing at all that I would rather hand select for someone I know will appreciate them than sell them bottom dollar to someone who I know will resell them at a much higher price, and thus, I have an abundance of materials to create these things as well as an abundance of spell crafting and altar items due to buying in bulk.
I sincerely wished to used mystery boxes as a way to give baby witches a 'starter kit' of essential herbs and altar items, adept witches a way to boost their spiritual inventory, and a way to introduce pagans, Wiccans, and anyone interested in magick / the occult a hand selected, curated box of items they can use and maybe find something new they love.
•Toys- aside from the occasional voodoo or 'hex doll', mystery boxes will not contain toys. Mystery boxes are intended for those 18+ for entertainment / spiritual purposes only and contain small objects that can be choking hazards to children and pets.
•Incense Sticks or Candles Individually Counted- A friend and regular of mine showed me a mystery box she had purchased from another Etsy seller that she had paid $50 for. The listing details stated that each box would contain 10-20 items. 8 of those items were incense sticks / candles the seller counted individually. I cant. If either of these items are included in a cluster, they will be counted as a set, therefore essentially one item unless a larger item is included in your box and I literally have no room for much else.
•Non Magickal Items- As said before, the witchy theme is intentional and I wish to stick to it. If jewelry is included, it will be in the form of talismans or crystal jewelry that has some kind of spiritual property that is outlined in your manifest. The only non witchy items included in this box are still spiritual in a way.
That would be my own self care creations in the form of masks, scrubs, soaps, oils, and serums that are intended to be incorporated in your self care routine that will also assist you spiritually, physically, and emotionally. When I graduated high school I pursued a license as an esthetician and Cosmetologist. Financial hardships caused those licenses to lapse, but I still have the knowledge and know how to apply that to my craft and integrate organic, sustainably sourced ingredients many of which come from my own backyard :)
Each mystery box includes an antique scroll manifest like the one shown above for a customer's special request box that identifies each selection and its potential uses / properties. They start at $10 and are currently on sale right now 15% off until February 1st.
I am a one witch show- please allow me a few days to compile your order and have it shipped to you. If you are trying to meet a deadline, ordering a gift or wish to place a customized or personalized order, feel free to contact me! I will be happy to work with you to manifest your dreams!

Hoping everyone has been enjoying the summer as it comes to a close. I can't personally fathom the year coming to a close. It feels like just yesterday I was suffering through my first or second job, just barely making ends meet while my passion to create and be a spiritual advisor of sorts was just a way to fund my hobbies and help pay the bills. I am absolutely beside myself at how much this community has supported my endeavours on Etsy and beyond - save for the eye laceration and the loss of my cat, this has indeed been a blessed year and I cannot say thank you enough!
Some updates for you-
I have decided that I'll be retiring / deactivating some listings in the shop as we move toward the end of the year. As of right now, these handmade to order designs are 30% off and will remain such until they are entirely sold out, at which point the listing will not be renewed until that particular design has been replaced or re-imagined. Links to these designs will be included below if anyone is interested and they are selling fast, so please snag them if you want them! This is one instance where an item is discounted not because there is a flaw but really because I feel that I have creatively outgrown them or that they could be better rendered. I can assure you that you will still receive a quality product if you appreciate these designs as they are currently :)
Added new items to the shop over this past month, including my own handmade Show Me The Money Candle Kit, Abalone Shell Crescent Moon Pendant, and Key to My Heart Love Magick Mojo Bag. Both include instructions and are fantastic for beginners as they don't require anything beyond what you'll receive to achieve the desired results and for established practitioners who want something simple to enact their will.
In addition, I have finally gotten a chance to list the 'Make Magick Your Way' sachets of components in the shop. I was including these small ensembles of spiritual tools and components in mystery boxes and thought that they were the perfect offering for those limited on money and space that only require a small amount of an herb, crystal, etc for a spell or ritual they are trying to pursue. These come in two different sizes where you may personalize and choose a theme for the components selected for each heat sealed bag. Some of the variations I've included are common spell themes such as love, healing, money etc. With others such as the option of requesting crystals only, herbs only, or items for a specific deity.
Just like with my Smudge sprays, I sought to make witchcraft and magick more accessible to anyone regardless of their background, setting, experience, handicaps, or allergies as I understand how detrimental and soul crushing it can be to feel like you can't fully enjoy something due to physical restrictions out of your control. This is just one of those offerings where I am more than happy to work with you to meet your needs while taking into consideration your sensitivities and concerns.
You can enjoy a 10% discount on other listings right now until Labor Day, including my mystery boxes, which I have recently separated into separate listings to not only make the process of assembling them more streamlined for me, but also shipping cost more reasonable for you the customer as it doesn't make sense for you to pay the same shipping price for a 5+ item mystery box as you would a 25+ item mystery box as the weight will obviously differ. If you were thinking about purchasing an ensemble, you can find my intuitively chosen mystery boxes divided into tiers with a 'special request' or themed option available for those who would like an Intuitively chosen box of goodies oriented around a specific practice, deity, theme, etc.

All links are current as of September 1st 2021. Sale will end September 30th 2021 at midnight UTC. As these items are still handmade to order, I do still encourage you to customize and personalize as you wish! Please keep in mind however that some customization requests may require a sleight upcharge. I'm always happy to accept your custom orders and will always work with you and you budget to create something one of a kind fit to your vision :)
There is more to come as soon I can get around to creating it. To all new and repeat customers I hope that you all have a wonderful month and that you know you are all appreciated for all of the support. Thank you for giving me and my creations a chance this community has been more supportive than I ever could hope. <3
Love & Light

To my dearest supporters on tumblr. - Update For March
New Listings
Update On Delays / Runes
Plans for the Future
You have helped me achieve my dream. As of Saturday, I have requested temporary leave from my standard job to focus more on my passion. This may become permanent if I find that I can sustain myself running my little witch shop alone. I went from working two jobs to just one that I LOVE. If that's not magic then I don't know what it is! My leave starts March 27th 2021, so if you're still waiting on an order you can count on production speed picking up!
These beautiful 'Witch Runes' are the newest rune design to be added to the shop. I was super excited to get this mold and do something different than the standard Elder Fulthark set. This 14 piece (including blank tile) set features common esoteric symbols and is a bit easier to start with for beginners, especially those more experienced with tarot / oracle cards who are used to working with imagery over learning a new language. As you all know, I love adding special effects to my creations to make them truly unique, and you can see by the photos above that this set features both Thermogenic. pigments and glow in the dark pigments.
Also added these adorable wish bottle pendants, each one filled with crystal chips hand selected just for their future owner wire wrapped with Selenite to create what I've dubbed 'Bottled Rainbows'. I have had so many bottles around the house for herbs and spell jars that I wanted to do something different for my jewelry section. These crystals are spiritually cleansed and positive energy charged before they arrive in your hands.
-Shipping, Processing & Fulfillment
I know that some of my customers are still awaiting rune sets and I'm sure if you're waiting on an order that you're wondering why I'm using my time to make new things and not your set. This is, unfortunately, part of the game that is selling online. I create many things in advance and wait to list them because newer listings draw more traffic on Etsy. This must be done to stay relevant. Since I am not depending on other sources of income any longer, it is important to maintain my presence because I cannot afford to flounder now. It is still just me until I summon an army of Fae to assist me. I have been asking for everyone's patience at this time while I continue to fill backorders from the end of February when I was recovering from temporary blindness and light sensitivity in my left eye. All affected orders will receive special extras for their patience!
If you have placed an order and are curious when to expect it, please don't hesitate to contact me. I often purchase shipping labels on my phone which triggers an automatic shipping notification through Etsy. This does NOT mean I have shipped your order- I will update you personally when I have. Until I find some way to turn off those notifications when labels are purchased, please only go by my contact with you.
I have been triaging orders according to complexity. If your order is only for one or two small items, I will try and assemble it in time to reach shipping expectations. I have been attempting to notify everyone that their order may take longer than anticipated and have updated the shop policies and announcements to relay this message.
WHAT TO EXPECT
• Rune orders, mystery boxes, and orders containing multiple items will take longer depending on your request and demand at any given time.
•Spell Kits & Spell Jars are generally shipping on time depending on quantity. + 2 days max.
•Jewelry & Accessories are generally shipping on time, depending on quantity and complexity.
•Customized & Personalized orders depend on what your request is. When you place your order, I will give you an ETA.
•Large Items (Trays, Skulls, incense burners, candle holders etc) will be affected by the delay. These items take 1-4 days to create and finalize with shipping on the next business day. If you have ordered a large item your order will be triaged as if it were a rune set. The current wait for runes and other large orders is estimated to be 2-3 weeks.
I will NEVER sacrifice quality over quantity. I would rather have a customer complain that it took them a year to receive their order BUT it was everything they had hoped for and more. Out of over 200 sales this past year on Etsy since I shifted my focus from Mercari to building my Etsy presence, I have only had ONE customer complain that their item was not up to standard and it was immediately replaced, free of charges to them, with one that was. I would like to maintain this track record, even if it means taking extra time to do it. :)
The Future
Creating Mystery Boxes has allowed me to explore some other ideas that I hadn't otherwise elaborated on before because I wasn't sure anyone would be interested in them. One of those ideas was creating themed 'satchel blends' of pre packaged herbs and botanicals hand selected for a specific element, purpose, deity etc. Because I have had many customers come to me saying that they are beginners and not sure what is what, what they need for spellcraft, what they should put on their altar. I originally put these together for Mystery Boxes, but now that I see they may help those of you exploring the Craft and spirituality, a larger version of these satchels may be available in the shop soon.
Each Mylar bag contains a unique selection of herbs and botanicals that focuses around a specific purpose / intent, theme, element, etc that may be used all together or a la carte for whatever you choose. Each bag is unique with all selections chosen based on their properties and alignment with the subject. I decided to create these inexpensive 'grab and go' bags as a way to make spell craft, talisman creation, and witchcraft in general less daunting for those who are just starting. They are also great for more experience practicioners as they feature at least 1g of herbs and botanicals you can integrate into your Craft so long as you know what you want.
The above is a sneak peek at what will be the basis for the future 'Air Elemental Rune Set' as I have already created Earth, Fire, and Water. This particular variation was requested as a custom order (hence the addition of stars per her request) but the overall theme will be available in the shop soon to complete my handmade elemental series.
I expect to also add more inexpensive selections like this for general use to make magick more accessible and less intimidating for all, putting my knowledge to work for you to make everyone's life and practice a little easier.
I would love to hear your opinions on some of this! If you like these ideas or think they are garbage- I am happy to listen!. I just wanted to take some time today to thank you all, for without you,I do not believe I would see the success I have had over these last few months. I appreciate ALL of you and it has been nothing but a pleasure to serve you and pursue my passion.
You can find these creations and more in my Etsy shop- all listings are hand crafted and each made to order / one of a kind from my hands to yours @ blursedbaubles.etsy.com
Now, back to work. Wishing everyone a blessed week!
