💖 alliteration at all times (usually in sets of three)

How it started/ How it’s going- a fanwork origin story tag

Idk if this is something that exists and is floating around already so like someone yell at me if it does - but I’m just out here in my feels about where I started as a person who participates in fandom and where I am now because I remember being a little baby at it in 2020 deciding to make and post fan art for the first time and I’m just thinking about all the little ways I’ve grown creatively from getting to exist on the internet with a bunch of really cool people.

Anyway!!! I want to see your first fanwork (or earliest you’re willing to post!) and your most recent fanwork, whether it be art, or fic, or poetry or edits or gifs or whatever! And I wanna hear your fanwork origin story!! Tell me how your process has changed and why you make what you make now! Tell me your first fandom and the ones you’re currently making work for!!

Here’s the part where I reveal that I just wanted an excuse to be SO annoying and post these two bits of art side by side because Woa it’s crazy what 3 years can do to a guy.

How it started:

This isn’t my first ever piece of fanart, but it is the one that influenced my style the most? I look at it every once and a while and think: damn that’s the one that changed everything for me. I believe I’ve evolved quite a bit in the last few years and I do dabble with new things here and there but I think you can look at this silly green sketch of Jason Ralph and see how that technique shows up in all of the things I’ve done since.

How it’s going:

This is my most recent work. I’ve been dipping my toes into a new fandom space for the first time in ages and I think it’s funny the way that has changed how I’ve been working. I’ve been diving into color work more than I ever have before and I’ve been really proud of the last couple of pieces I’ve made. This is Carlos Reyes, he cries, more than he deserves to, but he’s still subject to my loyalty to the 6b default brush in procreate.

In conclusion this was a long post that heavily implies I just wanted to talk about myself, but actually just want my friends to hype themselves and all of their fandom adventures up and tag me 😘 also! If you see this! And I didn’t tag you please feel free to participate and tag me!!!!!!

Looks like i've definitely gotten a little lazy lately! the most recent fics all have the same structure - main person was/did a thing, holding a thing. I had some more interesting starters in the middle, which fits with how much I was writing at the time - good motivation to get back into the habit!

Thanks @freneticfloetry for the tag! I’m sure OP intended Lone Star creators but now we’ve broken containment, so let’s see what I’ve got...

Most Hits: permission to touch - Heartstopper (Nick/Charlie, 3k, Explicit) "Do you know what you want to do for your birthday?" Nick asks suddenly. / "You," Charlie blurts out. So this fic actually qualifies for the first four categories. It’s a first time fic written for Yuletide in 2020 based on the webcomic, and when the TV series premiered on Netflix, everyone and their beta found it. I am proud of this one, definitely happy in retrospect that I re-read the entire series so far before I wrote it.

Most Kudos: written in the scars on our hearts - Teen Wolf (Derek/Stiles, 21k, Explicit) When Stiles needs a roommate as he starts college, he decides Derek is the perfect candidate. He knows college is supposed to change your life, but this is ridiculous. Domestic future fic. My ‘and they were roommates!’ fic that I wrote in the hiatus after season 2. I had so much fun putting this one together, and I even had quite a lot written for a companion Scott/Isaac fic, but I think S3 derailed me from ever finishing that one.

Most Comments: shout whenever (I’ll be there) - Ted Lasso (Roy/Keeley/Jamie, 26k, Explicit) "I was wonderin' if you might… teach me? / "Roy can only stare back at him. Teach him… what, how to pull? How to fuck? Roy must be dreaming, because there's no way in hell the Jamie Tartt he knows has the bollocks or the self-awareness to ask him for such a thing. Jamie's eyes only seem to get rounder the longer Roy looks at him, as if he's growing more hopeful of a positive answer. That particular delusion snaps Roy out of it. "No. Fuck no. Why the fuck would I wanna do that?" MY BABES! 🙌🏻 HUGE thanks to @rubickk7 for prompting me for this in an exchange when I was newly done watching the (then) two seasons and needed to get my feelings out via fic.

Most Bookmarks: marked restraint - Harry Potter (Harry/Draco, 12.5k, Explicit) In the early hours of July 31, 1996, Draco shoots awake and soon discovers his soulmark. The trouble only continues from there. I love writing soulmarks so much! Had a lot of fun playing off the ‘destiny’ aspect with these two especially.

Most Words: every turn a surprise - Bandom (Ryan/Brendon/Spencer/Jon, 56k, Explicit) When Brendon is 10 years old, weird things start happening. He quickly discovers his ability to read minds, and then he spends several years at the Academy, learning how to control it. After he is forced to run away to avoid being drafted for his ability, he gets hired onto a spaceship, where he meets Spencer, Ryan, and Jon. Things just get crazier from there, especially when he starts to fall in love with more than one of his coworkers. Oh man. This fic was a work in progress for so long that I was on my way out of bandom by the time I posted it. But it’s got so much worldbuilding and fun stuff in it. I feel like one day I’m likely to pull it and convert it into an Original Work.

Least Words: fun - Boy Meets World (Jack/Eric, 100 words, Explicit) Jack had never been with someone who made him laugh as much as Eric. I’ve written quite a lot of drabbles, actually, but this is one of my favs.

This fic is a delightful one-shot Queliot meet-cute. I’ve had it on my marked for later list for ages, and I’m glad I finally read it! Rubi’s Professor Coldwater fic is one of my favorites, so I’m excited to be diving into more of their fics. Here Quentin is a magical repairman who is adorably oblivious and nervous (and extremely relatable lmao). Eliot has a water heater in need of some minor mending. Much flirting ensues (not that Quentin would know). We love fluff, and this is no exception!

A Klaroline Magicians AU

It all started with an exam, her mysterious guide taking her to an exam to see if she could get into magical grad school. Maybe it started earlier than that — with the interview gone wrong. When she and Bonnie had stumbled on a dead body in what was supposed to be Caroline’s Yale interview.

That was the moment right? When everything changed.

If she hadn’t followed the page for Fillory book 6 would any of this have happened?

The craziest part is that Caroline isn’t sure she’d change it? She’d change some of the circumstances and the consequences but she loves her weird coven.

Yes maybe they were brought together by blood and a maniacal bastard but she loves them. They're  her  people.

Bonnie, her lifelong best friend, they drifted apart for a bit when they got into Brakebills, when Bonnie was a knowledge and Caroline was undeclared (but assigned to the cottage). They had some of their worst fights but Caroline knows they’re closer now than ever before.  

Her roommate Kat, a psychic traveler who didn’t know how not to run away. Who pretended like she didn’t care about anyone.

(Who saved her life multiple times despite claiming not to care about Caroline).

Caroline is still going to bother her with Taylor Swift though

There’s Enzo St John who became her best friend outside of Bonnie.    Who is one of the most brilliant magicians Caroline has ever met and literally sneaked into Brakebills because he wasn’t invited… all to find out what happened to his sister.

And of course  the Mikaelsons.

Kol with his hedge stars, knowledge of battle magic and heart eyes for her best friend.

Rebekah who ruled the Cottage, was obsessed with Welters and yet was as much of a Fillory nerd as Caroline was. Who put up an Ice Queen front but was one of the softest people

And Klaus.

Her mysterious exam guide, who comforted her with one of his darkest secrets when she was worried about being expelled and ending back in the hospital. The same person who brought her into his inner circle that had previously just been him and his sister.

(The one she’d slept with when feeling the effects of emotion magic) (They don’t talk about that night)

She remembers the cliffside where she crowned him High King, then he’d crowned Rebekah as High Queen, then had crowned Enzo and herself.

(Neither Kol or Bonnie hadn’t wanted it but they had technically been ambassadors.. Caroline had joked that the alone time brought them closer.. and it did).

They had almost lost Enzo in the fight against Silas but he’d they’d managed to defeat him and then had to save a fairytale land where magic was failing. They’d had to fight a political game that had ended with magic being shut off and they had been overrun by fairies.

And then the quest for the seven keys. Which had brought new challenges. Kat had almost died and been taken by the Library. Thankfully Bonnie had found a loophole. Enzo had lost his father and then he and Rebekah had finally gotten their shit together.

Caroline had known joy and grief like no other. She’d grown old and had children and grandchildren.

(Their daughter Lizzie was never far from her thoughts)

She and Klaus had come back and things had been weird. They hadn’t really talked since then. Caroline had come face to face with the worst version of herself and came out victorious. She and Klaus were still avoiding each other, Caroline’s focus was on the quest and his on the election.

It all leads to right now.

They were en route to Castle Blackspire to bring back magic. They’re so close she can almost  taste it — maybe afterward they can talk right?

Beside him, Margo turns to him, frowning. “Eliot, you just had your balls in a twist because you’d never gone to this festival, and now you’re trying to hoist it off on anyone else?”

“Yeah, that was before I found out it was less about sex and more about… lifetime commitments to total strangers.”

“Fen said it’s rare,” Quentin pipes up. “That people find their soulmate. And we’re Children of Earth, so we don’t know if the magic would even work on us.” Quentin still isn’t looking at Eliot, talking to the table. Oh, Quentin, Eliot thinks. You always seem to be the exception to every rule.

Margo sighs. “Look, cut the goddamn ribbon and set up camp in whatever fucking tent you like the best. Skip the soulmate bullshit and make your own Encanto out of it; just keep the locals happy so next election, we win the humans and the talking animals.”

The thought of Eliot finding a soulmate is laughable, at best. He’s not destined for ‘true love’ or any of that bullshit—he’s the loyal best friend that watches all his friends pair off or get married while he pines after the man that will never love him back the way he wants. Finding a soulmate is a fun concept to think about, but if Eliot attends the ceremony, he’ll just be left standing with a lump of coal while everyone else celebrates.

Eliot is still looking at Quentin, who finally glances up and meets Eliot’s eyes. Eliot gives him a small smile, which Quentin returns. Eliot puts on his best ‘Yes, Bambi’ smile, turning back to Margo. “Of course, my dear. Anything you require, we are at your service.”

“Good,” Margo says, all smiles in an instant. “The carriage leaves tomorrow morning. It’s a day’s ride to the Broken Bay. Now, last thing on the agenda—the land sharks are petitioning for access to the Swept Coast. Why the fuck do they want access to the water; aren’t they called land sharks for a reason?”

Eliot tunes out the rest of the meeting, nodding politely where appropriate, but really just watching Quentin, who’s passionately advocating for the opportunity for land sharks and sea sharks to like, cohabitate or some shit. He’s all sparkling eyes and talking with his hands, like he always is when he’s really into whatever nerd shit he’s going on about. At one point he reaches up to push back a few tendrils of hair and adjust his crown on his head again, which only makes it more crooked. Eliot smiles to himself. There really is no one else like him in the world.

Then he thinks of a tiny flame flaring up in Quentin’s palm, and his delighted expression as it lights up his entire face. And Eliot’s smile falls into a frown.

Dialogue Day

I was thinking it would be fun for us to share a section of dialogue that we like from our own work! It can be funny, sad, ridiculous, mysterious, plot-centric or just characters shooting the breeze…anything! And it can be from a WIP or a posted fic! It can be short or long! Let’s celebrate our beloveds having a chat.

This is from my most recent Roy/Keeley/Jamie fic, flip like a switch:

Jamie feels something inside of him settle as he takes in Keeley's smile. "I'd love to be with you, Keeley, if it doesn't make things too complicated." Again, he tries to gauge Roy for a reaction, but the man is as unreadable as ever.

Jamie moves his hand back out toward the middle of the table, and she takes it immediately. "It's already complicated, babes. Would probably be more complicated if we both wanted it and didn't say, yeah?" Jamie nods. "We have to be open and honest with each other, if this is going to work."

"Which means asking for what you fucking want," Roy says.

"Yeah? It also means talking about your feelings."

"I'm the one that got us here together, aren't I?"

Jamie opens his mouth to shoot back something else, but then he notices Keeley shaking with silent laughter. "No, it's fine," she says, snickering. "Open and honest through bickering is still open and honest."
